i have thick and coarse 2C curly hair that I've been co-washing with silicone-free conditioner for almost 7 years now. I only shampoo my hair once every two weeks or so. Bronner's works great for this because it has no sulfates in it so it doesn't dry out your hair, but if you're using conditioner or styling products that contain silicones you might find it doesn't clean your hair as "well" as other shampoos (the reason being that most shampoos have sulfates/detergents in them that are designed to strip your hair of all its oils – both dirt AND the oils that keep your hair naturally moisturized.) Because I don't use anything with silicone in my hair the Dr. Bronner's soap washes everything out fine – silicones coat your hair shaft and are responsible for that "built up" feeling that you get when you put too much product in your hair.
I honestly preach the gospel of everyone switching away from sulfate-containing shampoos and silicone-containing styling products because your hair will genuinely feel healthier with a lot less maintenance in most cases, but there is absolutely a transition period where your hair gets greasy if you decide to take this route. I don't think it lasted longer than a month for me, but I just supplemented with dry shampoo in-between washes. (I also gradually stopped shampooing as much – went from once a day to once every three days, then once every five days, and so on until I got where I am today)
People often don't believe me when I tell them I only shampoo my hair every other week because they expect me to look like a greaseball – however, depending on your hair type your results could vary. I hope this helps a bit!
