This thread is for discussing cosplay, seeking advice, and sharing resources on all things cosplay!

If you want to complain about costhots take it to /w/

What are some of your dream cosplays? What are you working on currently?

I'll start.
>What are some of your dream cosplays?
My dream cosplay is Marie Antoinette from RoV. I would love to cosplay Oscar instead but I'm short and have a pear shaped body, so Marie it is. She's got a lot of designs to choose from which is nice.

>What are you working on currently?

Pic related. I finished the base dress yesterday and started embellishing the shoes. No progress pics because I don't want to out myself as a farmer.

im curious as to how you'll construct the wings. like what materials?

I plan on following one of these cellophane wing tutorials because I want that delicate look. I’ve never made cellophane wings before, so if they don’t turn out as great as I hope, I’ll scrap them and figure something else out.

That is so cool, I love her shoes!

I want to cosplay Mistral one day and make moving arms, but I don't have the money or time or experience right now. I would say what I am making now but I've only seen 2 other coplayers of this character so I feel I will give myself away

I'm currently working on Morrigan from Darkstalkers! The big wings on the back have me a little nervous, but even worse is the bodysuit. After a lot of back and forth, I decided I'm going to make Aranea Black's bunnysuit corset pattern for the bodysuit but modify the front to make the heart cutout. I'm a little doughy so I think I'd benefit from the cinching, and hiding a corset under garments can be difficult. This isn't my first bunnysuit, but all the ones I've done have been zip-up with no cinching and I have a feeling that this one is going to be a special kind of hell.

It seems like a lot of effort, anon. Why are you making this cosplay? Are you a fan of the character or like a sex worker (based on your interest in bunny suits)? Just curious!

Not a sex worker! I don’t post my stuff anywhere at the moment. I should probably add that I actually am excited about this project. I haven’t actually played Darkstalkers but I am a big fan of Morrigan’s design, so it’s more about fashion design than love for the game. I noticed that the Morrigan cosplayers who do the work of constructing a body suit with bones (or pay someone else hundreds of dollars to do it lol) just look better, and I’m not on a timeline for a con or anything so I might as well go the extra mile. It helps that I have an interest in corsets and stays, so I’ll be learning about something that I like in the process!

How do you think these yellow details would look best if I made them? They look painted on, which would be easiest to do, but I thought they might look better if I embroidered them (the thick embroidery kind, like puff embroidery) or added piping (that might be bad because I don't know how to do it). I hope this is the right thread to ask.

It looks like 3D puff embroidery, not painted on

Thank you, that's how I will do it then

Sorry to necro (?) this, but…

Hey, I am trying to find a binder for a future crossplay and was curious if any of you have any experience with the different types? I am looking at these 3 currently. Appreciate any help.

i have a half normal-back gc2b binder. they’re pretty good, it can take a while to learn which position you have to squish your boobs in for it to feel the best. and if you get too hot it can feel reeeally constricting & tight

Anyone know where I can get a Babymetal Su-Metal dress? I can only find one listing and it looks kinda shady.

If not, can someone recommend a cosplay commission that won't charge me 1k for one of these dresses?

Going to try my luck here from the stupid questions thread:

>1

Could anyone recommend a spray gun for painting? What kind of paint can be used with them?

>2

EVA foam:

Just started making stuff with EVA foam. Shape overall came out well but had a very hard time working with the paint. I used Plastidip for priming and it gave me a lot of texture which I had to sand off. Used fabric paint on the piece but brush strokes were obvious in some places. Tried fabric spray and it clumped up and basically ruined the surface. Wondering if I could use any kind of spray paint with it?
For the top coat I used the plastidip glossifier coat and it created a couple of bubbles in some places and it started to peel off.

Could anyone give me some advice and tips on what I may have gone wrong? Pic related is what I made.

Honestly, the skirt looks like it is made of tulle. It's super easy to make a tulle skirt. You don't even have to be able to sew. (Although sewing one would work too). I've mad a tulle skirt when I was little. Just get red and black tulle, and cut it into strips. Tie the strips around a belt or a circle of elastic, until you have enough to look like the picture. There's tutorials that can show you what I mean if you search for them. The top of the outfit might be a little harder to find or make. You could check local thrift stores for something similar maybe.

Fabric paint is a nightmare and I wouldn't use it on foam. Acrylic is better or just using spray paint.
If you have brush strokes sometimes your paint is shit, but sometimes it's your brush technique. Plastidip is annoying and hard to get even and smooth in general, I get annoying bubbles all the time.

Would you recommend acrylic spray for this? Do you need a top coat? The plastidip top coat started peeling after it dried. Just awful.
