How would y'all scent layer to achieve an Arabian Princess kind of smell? I'm part North African and a yearning for the scents of my mother's country hit me like a truck suddenly a few days ago.
I tend to like sweet, floral, and gourmand perfumes, and I don't want to dramatically change to something super heavy and cloying, but I'm thinking more something sweet but with an exotic vibe. Preferably an Arab brand like Al-Rehab or Ajmal, but those are hard to come by here, so Western perfumes are fine if they have notes of oud, rose, desert rose, jasmine, orange blossom, warm spice, saffron, or amber.
For the layering I'm thinking:
> Dove pomegranate body wash or Dove rose oil and peony body wash
> Ouai rose body oil
> Some kind of citrusy body spray
> Either Old Spice wolfthorn (sweet citrus) or Old Spice timber (sandalwood) deodorant
> Possibly burning incense so that the scent in the room lingers to my clothes, but I feel like it might make me smell like a grandma who used to be a new age hippy in the 70s and douses herself in patchouli

Picrel arrived today and it’s lovely - it’s a dupe of Maison Margiela’s By the Fireplace.
I got it with Venice (dupe of Kilian’s Love Don’t Be Shy) and Tokyo (dupe of Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry), each 100ml bottles for £54 all together. I was the anon who recommended Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan upthread - it’s still my favourite but at over £200 a bottle now I was getting tired of rationing myself with it. These are lovely everyday fragrances and I’m going to try layering them in different combinations too.

Any perfumes that smell unsettling?
I love them. I love to smell like there's something familiar or wrong with me, like I have picrel and it's amazing because it smells like straight up humid cemetery flowers with a hint of nostalgic incense.
I also have Etat Libre D'Orange's Ghost in The Shell, it smells…interesting.
It smells different to everyone due to its molecules, to me it smells like old bratz dolls fresh from the box covered in whipped cream and I found out with immense pleasure that it's off putting to moids, like one time I was in a line with it just applied on my clothes and it (the moid) took a few steps back, same with some costumer in the retail I work in meanwhile to women it smells familiar and comforting, with a fresh hint and they always compliment me. Jackpot!
I love perfumes that smell like something specific, maybe I'm just a perfume autist, but I like when I can smell like something that exists/something familiar but not quite there. I hope I made myself clear because I know it's weird to explain with words.
Anyone here that like these too? What are your picks? Trying to find inspo for my next perfume. I want to smell either unsettling/weird, but not on the nauseous side or something that exists and has a distinct and specific odour.

>>375596Have you tried CDG's Incense series? Avignon legit smells like a Catholic mass, though I have to warn you the scent has very little staying powder. I'm sure you're aware that a lot of indie fragrances have edgy themes and are meant to be off-putting or at least unusual, but in my experience they all end up smelling rather tame.
In my opinion, the most off-putting but still wearable fragrances are old-fashioned florals and chypres like Anais Anais or Paloma Picasso. Both of those smell like funeral homes to me because of the extremely strong white florals, with the latter also having a weird, smoky/musk base note that almost fucks up the whole thing.

Does anyone have recs or pointers for finding a good go-to fragrance that will make me seem non-autistic to people? I shower daily and keep my hygeine to a good level but as I don't wear deodorant (benzoyl peroxide the pits) or wear fragrance (don't know where to start with perfumes) I just want something that smells non-autistic and pleasing and will make people (who are around me normally in a university setting throughout the day) not off-put.

Chose a lowcost niche fragrance, maybe something from Demeter (AKA The Library of Frangrances)? I was gifted this set recently and i'm really loving the purple one: cocoa and cashmere. The only issue is it fades quickly. would you guys have any recommendation for something that smells similar, but lasts longer? a subtle warm scent with a bit of chocolate.
The blue one: indigo mist, is kinda bad. It is a bit too strong and alcohol-y but after a few hours it becomes tolerable. it kinda smells like a mall perfume aisle in a bad way. However, this one got me compliments when out in public so i guess it smells nice to other people.
Cookies and kisses (the brown one) is also nice, though i haven't used too much yet. It might be my second favorite.
The other ones are a bit unremarkable but not bad. This seems like a good budget option, at least to me since im a beginner with perfumes.

Kayali's Lovefest Burning Cherry is a nice alternative to Tom Ford's Lost Cherry, which is something I've been searching for. >>381996Go on fragantica and look up a note that you like, do you like sweet smells, floral? Then check the weather and ocassion icons and you'll get a good idea if the perfume is versatile enough. I also like to watch youtube videos of 'best casual perfumes' or stuff like that, if you find people that do non-sponsored videos you'll get very good reviews and some of them are really good at describing the smells. As other nonnies have said, the best is to get samples or go try perfumes out in a physical store.

>>383882It's cool that it's refillable but I have a feeling it's no different from any of the Alien chimeras. I love Mugler but unfortunately app Mugler fragrances tend to be very cloying and geriatric, kind of assaulting on the senses. Even angel can be too synthetic and cologne-like if you aren't careful and don't layer. They have so many limited edition bottles and slight variances, I have a feeling hypersense won't be much of an exception. I haven't tried them all (of course, way too many) but I've found that a few of their aquatics tend to be less headache-inducing. I want to try the flora one but haven't been able to get ahold of a tester. I wish they would re-release their body shimmer parfum powders.

>>383900I own a bottle of Alien Goddess, after I tried a sample size that came from a discovery set. I think Alien Goddess is a beautiful scent, not cloying but a perfect joyous blend of coconut and vanilla.
A lot of perfume hype/influencer/tiktok/YouTube/reddit fragrance discussion makes people lose sight of their own internal opinions and likes/dislikes. If it sparks a real joy every time you use a scent, then buy it. Don't buy it just to have a "Chanel" or "Diptyque" in your collection like your collecting a pokemon team. I don't own any Versace or Jo Malone because the scents are very nice but fade super fast, like within 10 minutes. I don't want to reapply every half hour so I don't bother with those houses and save my money for the real good stuff that I connect with.

honestly I only wanted it after seeing an old tv ad for it, as bottle seemed to be cute and after checking notes I wasn't sure, also people said that it's very light and fades fast. I went to local Douglas to check it (they had tester at least) and it was so nice and it was basically first perfume I actually liked a lot. It smelt so weird on paper but it became so nice on my skin and it doesn't fade so fast. Got it later and pretty much it smelt even better from a bottle which wasn't in light all the time.

I’ve got some “treat yo self” money and want to get a new perfume. I like fruity perfumes with a touch of florals/greens underneath. Do you nonnies have any personal recs?
Alternatively, I’m gay and experimenting with being a little bit butch from time to time, so I’m also looking for colognes that smell good on women too. So far I’ve only found one that I like, Musc Imperial from Atelier Cologne

>>387234>>387153I'm fairly sure it's stocked in select Sephoras only, they had pretty much all the Tom Ford testers and ofc the Lost Cherry one only had a few drops in it kek.
Maybe you can ask the sephora reps if they know what stores have samplers.
On another note, is Bvlgari Splendida Magnolia discontinued? I can't find it anywhere and it's my signature scent.

I've really been curious about Montale's Vanilla Cake, too.

I bought Jungle a couple years ago and I can't decide if I like it or not. One of my coworkers said it smelled amazing when I was wearing it, but when I do have it on the smell is just overwhelming to me. I feel like I stink.

nonny using picrel? I consider getting a 50ml of it first, if I'll like it but it's hard to find a sample to try it where I live. I like the notes and I just want to something to rotate with

Got a sample of this and omg. It smells like an incense-filled Arab living room with old wooden furniture, on a dusty summer afternoon. Smells like my grandma's home. I was more hyped for Relique d'Amour but i think this surpasses it (just a little). It's anything but too fresh, synthetic and sugary-sweet, which is what i hate about modern perfumes. There's a waxiness to it that i love, too
>>371066I think you'd love this. It very much smells like incense that has lingered on leather/clothing, very amber-y

i always hated perfumes but i'm reconsidering after watching some youtubers talking about it (btw have you noticed that only moids are ever sponsored by fragrance subscription stuff? it's funny). i just always thought perfume was lame and gay and didn't even smell good, but now i'm kinda interested in fragrances that don't smell like perfume. maybe something that smells like a freshly cleaned room with hints of ozone, or coffee, or mountain air? everything i tried so far is still too sweet but i'll keep looking.
a bunch of people recommended pic rel and it's not bad but it really doesn't smell like the cool futuristic spaceship i was promised lol, it's just kinda sweet and artificial.

>>375596I bought a sample of Fantomas recently. Certainly unsettling. It begins with an intensely sweet honeydew melon note and it gets smokier on the drydown. There's also a plastickyness to it, maybe like rubber gloves. My friend told me it reminded her of a hospital.
Nasomatto also has a scent called Nudiflorum which I find very beautiful but could never wear in public… extremely leathery, rhubarby, sweaty/animalic, and sweet
