>>387916It absolutely comes up pretty often. It is particularly contentious when reconnecting Natives with a distant ancestor take advantage of opportunities which they already have easier access to. Eg. Related to the arts, job opportunities, etc.
This is because what
>>387926 said is true, but causes this problem where very white-looking and culturally disconnected people (who will automatically be favored by white people due to feeling more familiar) will take on Indigenous roles in organizations, the arts, etc. Meanwhile a half or full Indigenous person who was raised on rez is less likely to have access to these opportunities in the first place due to living conditions and generational trauma.
But then there are also people who reconnect, are open about being mostly white, and just want to learn the culture. And being aggressive about blood quantum turns them away which sucks. It's not black and white (or brown and white heh). My stance lays somewhere in the grey since I do have reconnecting friends I love.
Also some people just straight up lie and aren't Indigenous at all kek.

How come woke people outside Australia always forget aboriginals exist?
I just finished watching Disney's Wish and even though they went out of their way to make the kingdom of Rosas ultra diverse there are zero characters with aboriginal traits. Same thing in their other woke movies.. no aboriginal mermaid in the black little mermaid, no aboriginal character in strange world..
Google's woke AI had the same problem. People bitched it wouldn't generate white people, but it generated even less aboriginals.

Is anyone else weirded out by the fact that there's a ton of white woman x North American native man romance novels but nearly nothing featuring other indigenous groups? Why do white women love North American natives so much

>>391521Indigenous erasure nona, it’s always indigenous erasure. Aboriginal people are often also very dark skinned, so colorism/anti-black sentiment could also play a role.

Mattel made the Wilma Mankiller Barbie a young, thin half African looking woman because they think a 40 years old overweight white-passing Native American isn't marketable or something. So much for body positivity.
