this is so much ridiculous target crap, anon… you guys would like stuff like this, no offense.

i hate that in all of these aesthetic shabby chic room photos they have to cram as much bric a brac into them as physically possible. it's the biggest boner killer. it makes me nauseous. pic related is cute and perfect in terms of color/accents and the overall ethereal feel, but it's completely fucking ruined by the fact that they've shoved a stupid, useless roman pedestal in a 2x2 room, and have strewn vaguely cream colored garbage everywhere. i don't know why weirdos online with all this cash can't master shabby chic without filling every square inch of space with what are effectively $15 tj maxx birdcages and stupid misplaced teapots everywhere

pic related is grandma's house, if anything. i've yet to meet a grandma with such a nice living room as the above, personally, but maybe they're different where you are. it just seems like basic green themed shabby chic to me

this one's adorable, too.

i've seen people do the plant look with silk fakes, which are getting very realistic, but dusting looks impossible. i've heard pressurized air, but to get it really clean i think you'd have to take it all down every three months, give it a good swish in the sink, then re-hang everything.

i know real plants can get mites but honestly i'll take the mites. pothos are resistant and grow like weeds. i used them as a shower curtain once, it looked great. wish i had a pic.

My aesthetic has been bright/clashing, somewhat eclectic, and local artist/craftsman-based with some ephemera, for a long time. All of my belongings have to fit in a suitcase these days, so maybe I'll slowly develop a new aesthetic. Right now it's a sham of its former self.

The Selby is In Your Place gives the general idea, especially around the time it came out. (The rooms in the book look dated but cute now.)

TBH most of these seem staged and a pain in the ass to maintain. So I assume a lot of anons here must be underage or haven't lived on their own. Like, a lot of these "plants everywhere" pictures feature pants growing above a stove, which would never work, so it must be staged. Also none of the kitchens here have a vent above the stove which is just retarded.

I would hate having a tonne of plants in my room tbh, they look nice in photos but they just give the impression of dirtiness when they're everywhere. Like, the smell of the dirt at least.

But this is an inspo thread, of course they are staged and probably from interior design magazines or websites or something. They don't have to be practical or livable, or based on experience living alone. Of course in my own place, ease of cleaning is a priority. That means minimal clutter and easy to dust surfaces.

What about air plants?
Less water means less moisture which potentially means less mold/smell
Bugs/leaves might still be an issue though

Also, I hear that watering plants from the bottom helps eliminates mold/smell because the top layer is dry and there's not enough water in the soil to grow much else (because the plants only take up what they need through their roots)

or just have fake plants if you just like the aesthetic–might be nice to pair with LEDs for a magic forest type of feeling?

I've always lived with house plants and have literally never encountered any of these problems. I live in an appartment though, not a house. The smell of dirt is very faint and if anything it just smells like the rain, have never had bugs, have had to pick up maybe like 3 leaves per plant per year because they grow very slowly.
To each their own i guess, probably depends on the type and species of plants too, it's just curious to me that i can't relate to any of those problems.
The most annoying thing about owning plants imo is not being able to go on trips without having someone to care for your plants.

What chair is that anon? Is it comfy (especially for +5hour sitting sessions)? I’m looking for a chair for my PC and don’t know where to look. Personally I’d put a decoration pillow that matches your room or a big stuffy that you can hug while you do whatever.

What kind of blanket should I use for it?

Damn, is that considered a weird thing to do? My family and I always just used a plain old blanket to sleep under. Duvets are overrated and fucking annoying to wash. I have a duvet now but it's mostly for decoration or if I get really cold and need it on top of my blanket. But 90% of the time I just sleep under a giant king sized plush blanket like pic related, it's comfy.

Now when I look at dark, wooden, with big carpets and curtains rooms I can only think of spiders and dust. My room now is like a dream, I am so grateful for having it, it is light, comfy and brings peace. Crazy how changing my room lifted my mood so much and increased my productivity

Minimalism is again gaining popularity because most on the active people on line are under 30 years old. They are studying and/or have not much money, possibly depressed and/or feel revolutionary so having no clutter gives them the entitled pass to talk shit to others.
I love minimalism, but after a while you start to notice who gets into it for clout and who actually needs help. Have you seen that guy who said that he's so minimalist that he eats the same food everyday? (I doubt but imagine the urge of saying that for minimalpoints).
I love healing your space because she doesn't drag her cat into minimalism. Sure she has one pillow to seat but that animal has scratchers, shelfs to jump to, toys. A responsible owner imo.

Not exactly room inspo but I think it fits this thread. I used to live in Budapest and recently I’ve been aching to move back to Europe even though it’s unrealistic for me in my current position. I would do anything to have a bright open apartment like this with herringbone hardwood flooring, big white windows and a wrought-iron balcony. The style is very Parisian but you have the perk of Eastern Europe being much cheaper than Paris. This particular apartment looks out onto a beautiful Baroque cathedral and there are half a dozen bakeries and cafes just a few steps from the front door, plus it’s only a short walk from the Danube. It makes me depressed that you can’t find anything like this in the States.

Can I ask for a small space dump? I'm moving into a 10x10 with a queen bed and I'm bound and determined to fit in a wardrobe for my lolita, but I don't want to overstuff. The house is pretty old so I want to avoid putting anything heavy on my walls besides a couple of small shelves for wig heads. I really like the aesthetic of >>110651 with the cozy white furniture!

Late response but would Anon be willing to share your discord? I love interior design but putting it into effect is hard, especially now that I'm moving into a 3bed house and have to compromise with roommates. Having some inspo would be fantastic.

I want to get a comforter because my blanket doesn't fit in any of my covers and it's exhausting to change my sheets tbh. But I don't understand them? Is it just a blanket that you lay on your mattress and that's it? Doesn't it need protection/a cover for the oil and sweat and dead skin cells and what not that's coming from your skin? And how often do you wash it?

I’m sorry if that’s the wrong thread but I literally don’t know where else to ask this.

Does anyone by any chance know where I could get this desk?
It looks like it’s from ikea (the drawers remind me a lot of kullen/malm furniture) but I can find anything like it.
I even considered that it’s made out of two night stands and a table top, but I can’t find any night stands like that either and it doesn’t seem like the drawers have their own top part (although, that probably could be left out when you put them together, now that I think about it).

But anyways. Any help would be appreciated as this is the first room inspo picture that actually fits the logistics of my own apartment/room.

LMAO imagine spending 800$ on a basic ass desk.
You could actually make it yourself for cheaper if you have space and help, it doesn't seem very complicated, except for the drawers (maybe it would be easier to just make cabinets instead of drawers). Or you could try finding some drawers at a second hand store. Or just find similar cheaper ones at some other store. Good luck I hope you make/find a nice desk.

Right? Especially if it doesn’t look like it. But each to their own.

I think I‘m gonna go with simple Malm dresser/nightstands or just buy a simple desk (like Micke) + cabinets.
I just really suck at furnishing, decorating and have literally 0 sense of what fits and what doesn’t (aesthetic-wise) so it’s easier for me to copy it 1:1. But oh well. I‘ll live.

Anons, I'd love to get some help.

I bought a new nice desktop for my PC. It has many things to offer, my only issue is that I want to put everything cute and pink on it but the table itself is black coloured. Is that too much of a trouble? I could send an image of my desk.

This is random but I've finally discovered a term to describe my housing aesthetic - "colorful minimalism."

I like how minimalism is about possessing less objects and clutter, but I don't like the current pinterest trend of "everything must be WHITE and SPARSE and BARREN except your plant collection." I would like a house with less furniture, less objects, but the furniture there is is brightly colored and has pops of pattern.

No. 110762

>>110761
I get you. I like the idea of having very little stuff (or at least, having it all in neat storage so it looks minimal), but I'm not into impersonal sterile aesthetics. Though rather than bright colours/patterns I want pastels.

Speaking of, isolation has been great for decluttering and konmari-ing and all that. I've gotten rid of so much unnecessary stuff.

I haven't thought too much on the design but I'd love a big wet room style shower. I like sitting in the shower so having all that space and maybe a built in bench would be awesome. I also like how seamless and spacious they make the bathroom look. I also wall tiling that doesn't look like normal tiles, eg fake wood, fake brick.

Too bad I'll never be able to afford it kek I'm planning a bathroom reno eventually and even with the plainest, cheapest materials it'll still cost me like 10-15k.

I know the feeling, it's something that eventually I want to work up to. Tiles alone are expensive, even if you DIY the whole thing it's still an excessive amount omg. I like it. It's soft with cute colors, yet neat. The walls are fresh with the aligned photos and crisp curtains, with nice textures on the ground. Only the plant breaks the cohesion a bit

Interesting you say that, I would have labelled that photo "depression at its worst". Waking up in a sleeping bag, living out of a cramped midtier at best car, eating crisps on a plastic plate for breakfast, and wearing fucking yoga pants and twee socks to look out a damp view of trees. No thanks.

My taste is kinda lame, and it's hard to explain the specific aesthetic that I like. I don't think it classifies as cottage core, even if it takes place in a cottage.
The best descriptor would probably be Eastern European village grandma-core.

As a Hunganon I find it both surprising and delightful that someone would find this aesthetic attractive haha! These pictures take me back to the time when we would visit family in the countryside and the houses there had these exact same decoration. I love it too, it's just the smell that I found unpleasant as a kid (everything smelled…well, old)

I'm actually Polish, so the appeal for me might be part nostalgia, part just wanting to live in a rural area again since I'm currently living in a commie block nightmare.
Also fun fact, pic related is from a Polish village called Zalipie where most of the townsfolk paint flowers on their houses like this.

Same for Croatia. The photos all look like village houses in certain parts of the country 100+ years ago. It's museum/cultural heritage tier now. Real babica core shit. And it's NOT lame.

I'd have to say the same. I feel cold and unshowered just looking at it.
