You just click a button and read basically. The beginnings really slice of life boring moe bullshit but once you actually get to the mystery horror parts it gets pretty good. If you play I recommended downloading the 07th mod, gives you voice acting and new sprites.

I'd say just ignore the board fandom. Umineko itself wise I'd say there's two main ways to get into it you could read the manga or play the visual novel, which you can buy on steam but be sure to download the PS3 sprite patch because the steam sprites are disgusting.

Or just wait a bit for the PS4 release to come out in english which will have all the content if you have a PS4.

I was soooo into Umineko when the question arcs were first translated, I love mystery/detective fiction and all the references were great. I never finished reading the answer arcs for the same reason. Ryu really did Beato dirty. What a dumb ending.

Deen also really fucked the anime and I doubt there will ever be another one unless it gets the Fate/ufotable treatment, which seems really unlikely since Umineko is nowhere near as popular as Fate.

That's what I've heard from people who didn't like the ending, and Ange was definitely my favorite character in the question arcs, so I'll try to keep on reading (I just have a hard time reading VNs, it's a format where I lose focus very fast). What really deters me from reading is that nothing fantastical has happened anyway, all the cool witches and demonic characters are not real, what's the point in the end? Unfortunately. The last episode was pretty interesting with the potential ties to umineko, but otherwise it's felt pretty self explanatory. Once they showed that satoko was looping at the end of last season, they didn't need to show every detail of how she induced L5 in other people. I get the idea of question and answer arcs but it's nowhere near as effective as the original series where we didn't know how anything worked, and there was more to answer. Not to mention the coomer loli shit creeping its way in.

Honestly, I am enjoying Gou/Sotsu. I don’t care if it’s ruining the lore and I have been itching for something new for WTC after my yearly re-read of Umineko. I always thought Satoko and Lambda were the same originally but when I was reading Umineko the first time, someone told me that it was supposed to be Takano (I mean I guess but that would’ve undone any growth Takano had and I’m glad she’s not Lambdadelta). The answer arcs for this season have been okay, but seeing Satoko split into Witch Satoko versus the original made me feel bad for her. I’m wondering if there’s going to be a split in the timelines or if Rika will figure out that the Satoko she’s dealing with now isn’t the one she had tried to save originally. It’s trash but it’s my trash and I’m going to keep holding out for a true Umineko remake after this series ends.

Fair enough, I meant the shower scene at the beginning and then the weird innuendos about how Satoko and Rika can't sleep without each other. But in general, how all of the lighthearted scenes throughout the series have had some kind of sexual undertone, like the punishment games in the og series.
I agree about Rena, they wouldn't have shown that if it wouldn't be important. These arcs have been way longer than they needed to be, I hope the final episodes are really impactful.

I've just finished Episode 5 of the second season, and so far the second season is much better than the first to me. Rika and Satoko are my favourite characters so maybe that's why. They're both such brave and unfortunate girls, I really wish I could protect them both.
The parts where Satoko started seeing a man watching her and everyone telling her it was just her imagination is the scariest part of the anime for me so far. I guess because Shion's fucked up shit felt too unrealistic for me to empathise with I was less scared?
