Yeah it's weirdly hard to find, and I had to wait so long to find pairs after several test I downloaded it on this site : https://filmyanju.co/the-devils-1971-bfi-upscale-full-torrent-magnet-download-full/

(I choose that first itorrents mirror link, it was a very heavy .mkv file but it also contains all the cut scenes as well as some interviews and extras!)
It's a great, but emotionaly exhausting movie, I'm so mad that there is no proper restauration of it!

You can also see it here on the internet archive but I don't know if it includes all the cut scene, and it was very laggy on my computer, but maybe it will work for you!

I love churches, both old and modern, there's something really fascinating about architecture and art serving religious purpose in the space specifically designed for it. Old churches were specifically designed to overwhelm the poor people who would never see a more impressive place - especially in cathedrals case - and modern churches usually focus in their design on something quite the opposite, more barren and ascethic to take peoples mind away from the usual visual noise that overwhelms them on a daily basis. It's so interesting how these opposite approaches serve the same purpose, showing how times have changed. I know it's an /m/ so sorry about going on about all that but I just want to share in hope someone feels the same!

Don’t really have cathedrals where I live but when I visited France and saw the old ones I really liked the “in a cave” musty smell they have.

One of them happened to be painted white inside instead of bare soot-stained stone, and while stone is nice the white paint entirely transformed the space. It was so much brighter and more open feeling than the other ones I had been in, couldn’t help but wonder why more aren’t like that.

I'm pretty sure most of the time preservation of the original look of the space is a priority, that's why it's not being changed up, but with Church attendance being less and less in some countries I wouldn't be surprised to see these spaces taken and modernized, either in effort to bring people back in or to transform the space to something else, that would be interesting to see happen more. Otherwise I think maybe sometimes in some churches it's actually intended for them to feel somewhat opressing and overwhelming, not too "open", to instil fear (of idk, gods judgement) and accentuate how small and weak human is against what's holy. I wonder though.
On the topic, I wonder if stained glass are a thing in every country? In mine I think every sinle church has them (if only there are windows), but I think it may not be the case everywhere. They can be very beautiful sometimes, even if art itself is nothing special, just the way it looks when the sun shines through is fascinating

Not quite as appealing as little chapels or figures in the nature, but something that can be found in Poland are little chapels inbetween housing estates, it always has a little bit of surreal feeling to it when you enter this kind of hidden area to discover a little Holy Mary in her little house, decorated with flowers or candles.

I really like those small shrines that are near the roads or crossroads, I was once once planning to go on a country trip to photograph them and maybe put up on a blog, but I'm have no car and I'm too chicken to go on a bike.

From a Catholic feminist blog

>The only path to Christ I can see is His Blessed Mother, Mary. Here she is, a holy woman with an innocent baby, the child who relies on her completely for his every need. This is something I can relate to, an image I can cling to as my vision of earthly manhood crumbles into dust. I’ve been pregnant and given birth to and nursed my newborn, staring at his sweet eyelashes and imagining only joy in our future. At this moment, I can think of God not as a man, but as a baby with a mother.

I'm not a Christian but I do like the idea, the idea of a God with a Human mother who learned to love us and would be willingly to sacrifice himself for us

AYRT, I'm Jewish, well, non-practicing now. Judaism never really resonated with me, no matter how hard I tried. There's a lot of scepticism and I have other issues with the culture too. It could well be a "grass is greener" type situation for me and I'm well aware religion is most likely a cope but it's certainly a nice cope to have. Like you said, someone who wasn't even technically human that learned to love humans despite our many flaws and then died for us is very reassuring. It's a comforting thought for me during uncertain times. Christian artwork has been a great help too, it's such a deeply moving genre imo. Even agnostics, atheists and other religions can't help but admire it and I think that says a lot about the quality of works the genre produced.

The thing is it's not real, there was a self taught Jewish Preacher who had a small following, we cannot know what his real message was and what he wanted but he was executed by the State in his death he became a God through Idolization and hope
what matters is the figure of Christ as a man and as a God, and with regards to the Virgin Mary she has the figure of both of a simple saintly woman and the Queen of Heaven and in the Middle ages she was also the Empress of Hell
Any way here's Mary beating a demon while an angel holds the baby Jesus

During my religious crisis I read the Quran after my father tried talking me into converting to Islam like he did and whew, that is uh, not for me. He also gave me the Arab supremacy schtick about how a good Arab girl like me should convert, even though most of my Muslim relatives resent the fact that I am Jewish by blood, and I know I'd get similar judgments if I did convert to Islam. The fact that Christianity has a more global appeal is a comfort. I'm sick of having racial shit mixed with religion. I just want to find my niche, and hopefully some comfort. Not got into /pol/ tier debates about supremacy.

Again I'm not a Christian and both are equally made up imo, but Christianity has the aspect of Cultural flexibly that Islam lacks
Think of it like this, when a people group are converted to Christianity they are fundamentally changed but the religion its self is changed and evolves, it takes on aspects of the native peoples cultures, an example of this would be how in most Bible Translations people will use the Name of their former highest pre-Christian God for well God, which connects them to their pre-Christian culture, in Islam everyone calls God Allah, its not even a name, its just Arabic for "The God" but Muslims around the world will use Allah cause Islam is built on Arab supremacy
Just look at the difference between African Christian's and African Muslims, most African Christian's have retained most of their previous culture and heritage, African Muslims dress in the same awful looking clothing and pray in the similar dialect of Arabic that is not in their mother tongue

This is a detail from the cycle of frescoes on the dome of the Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral in Florence! I chose that picture because it includes the balcony where people walk, hopefully to give a idea of the size of those figures alone. The lowest part of the dome represents souls being punished for the seven deadly sins, the picture i posted in particular is wrath (on the left) and gluttony (on the right) iirc. The guys face isn't censored, it was probably a spot where the fresco was so deteriorated with time that it couldn't be restored. I think it was normal back then to represent souls and angels naked

Let me explain the moid she's stomping is her husband Shiva, see Kali is an aspect of the war Goddesses Durga which is an aspect of the Primordial Goddesses Parvati, And all these Goddesses are the same person but at the same time different entities, for e.g Durga is the mother of Ganesh(the elephant guy) but Kali and Parvati aren't
so the context for this incident is that Kali after killing some demons goes into a mad rage and starts dancing, her dance is one of the signifiers of the end of the world and it causes wide scale destruction, her husband Vishnu see's what's happening and tries to stop it, so he just jumps straight down with his body and interprets her mid-dance, Kali accidently steps on him and gets embarrassed and her tongue comes out

Speaking of the weird mixture of religion and politics, the Mormon chuch's view of the US Founding Fathers is that they were spiritually redeemed when they chose to accept Mormonism in the afterlife.
>In August 1877, Wilford Woodruff, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, was the first president of the recently dedicated St. George Temple of the LDS Church. He reported that one day, the spirits of the founding fathers of the United States of America and other prominent men and women as well, appeared to him and asked for temple ordinances to be performed in their behalf:
>“The spirits of the dead gathered around me, wanting to know why we did not redeem them. Said they, “You have had the use of the Endowment House for a number of years, and yet nothing has ever been done for us. We laid the foundation of the government you now enjoy, and we never apostatized from it, but we remained true to it and were faithful to God.” . . . They waited on me for two days and two nights. I thought it very singular, that notwithstanding so much work had been done, and yet nothing had been done for them . . . I straightway went into the baptismal font and called upon brother McCallister [J. D. T. McCallister, first counselor in the temple presidency] to baptize me for the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and fifty other eminent men, making one hundred in all, including John Wesley, Columbus, and others.” (Wilford Woodruff, in Journal of Discourses, 19:229. St Agatha of Sicily is often depicted with her breasts on a plate. A man tried to coerce her into breaking her vow of chastity for him, and when his repeated attempts failed, he used his rank to have her imprisoned and tortured. During this she was repeated raped and had her breasts cut off. Despite the sexual assault, the Catholic Church regards her as a virgin martyr. She is the patron saint of rape victims and people with breast cancer.
I really enjoy stories about female saints, although there's often a lot of violence, it inspires me to see how much courage they held. Especially since many of them used their faith to resist sex-based oppression.

>Eve, deceived by the serpent
>Mary, whose heel crushes the head of the serpent
>Eve, who took fruit from the tree out of disobedience to God
>Mary, who offered fruit (her son) to the tree (cross) out of obedience to God
>Eve, who sinned and was cursed with the pain of childbirth
>Mary, who did not sin and was blessed in bearing Jesus
>Eve, who was complicit in bringing death into the world
>Mary, who was complicit in bringing eternal life and redemption into the world
>both are considered the mother of all mankind

>According to Teresa Sánchez, while she was in her cell engaged in prayer, she suddenly felt a strong presence around her. She looked up and saw a radiant and majestic figure standing before her. The angel's appearance was dazzling, with a luminosity that surpassed anything she had ever seen.
>The angel spoke to Saint Teresa with a voice that was both gentle and powerful. He conveyed a sense of divine authority and wisdom. The angel's words were filled with love and encouragement, inspiring Saint Teresa to deepen her commitment to her spiritual journey.
>the angel gently approached Saint Teresa, holding in its hands a golden spear. Without warning, the angel thrust the spear into her heart, causing an intense and indescribable pain.
>As the angel's spear pierced her heart, Saint Teresa's soul was transported to a realm of extraordinary spiritual ecstasy. In this heightened state of consciousness, she was granted divine visions and revelations that transcended the boundaries of the physical world. She was granted glimpses of the divine mysteries, experiencing the profound love and union with God.

One thing that's nice is that you can visit historic churches and cathedrals for free usually, and listen to music or look at art. It's wonderful if you want to go somewhere beautiful without being subjugated to typical hectic and/or expensive attractions. I feel like people don't know since it's a religious building but it's really open to anyone, nobody has given me a hard time for not being a real member. The way the buildings are shaped makes the music sound way better in person and makes the art shine with strategically positioned light
