My wishlist: A giant hamtaro plush, a big Furby plush or that one backpack I'll just cut off the straps. I used to have a teddy bear that was pink, curly/wiry haired and had a unique crackle to it. It got tossed out by accident after it was my "main plush" for most of my childhood and I was extremely upset. If anyone knows what type of bear I mean I'd really like to buy one. I basically wasn't able to keep stuff nice because I had little brothers and destructive cousins. Like, they ground my American Girl Doll in the mud when they house-sat us for a week and I didn't get a replacement. I got gifted some other nice dolls in my childhood and my mom wouldn't let me play with them, same with my children's teaset and easy bake oven. I bet they are still rotting in her closet. She's odd.
Also this thread reminded me of that short Yumi to Kurumi manga where the lady finds a stuffed toy on the ground and fixes it up and makes it clothes. It's heartwarming

He was stout like my pic with midget limbs and really stiff inside like he was packed TIGHTLY with wool (the teddy website says that produces the crackling sound I remember). Probably some really obscure thing I'll never be able to find.

I'm super happy that you remade the thread and you sound like the sweetest person I also used to feel bad when my thread died or got shat on, so I feel you. I will be posting here and hope other anons will too! I love plushies.

What got me into making stuffed animals was when I was in a home economics class in jr high. The new school I was going to had this neat thing where you could order a stuffed animal pattern with instructions from a catalogue and they would send the fabric out to you with the pattern printed on it. My family was dirt poor but my dad actually let me order one, so I got this big floppy dog. And I mean he was big, he was 4 feet long. They didn't have sewing machines so I put the entire thing together by hand. I finished pretty fast too, and I gave it to my mom. I hope she still has him.
Other people in my class ordered a pattern too, but some people just gave up and didn't want to finish, even though they paid for it. So they just gave them to me! People had ordered intermediate patterns and they had no idea what to do, but I guess I just had a knack for it. I got to do a sitting pure white kitty and a bald eagle with a little American flag bandana around his neck. The eagle was the hardest one because he had this funny way of attaching the wings, but I got him done and gave him to my dad who is from the States and he still has him.
I had always loved and collected stuffed animals but this is when I discovered my passion for making them as well.

this is a cute thread! i had a stuffed bunny as a child but i have no idea what happened to it. i think it was cream white or beige and it had a triangular body so it could sit upright. i had it since i was born (1992) until ??? i genuinely have no idea, one day it was just gone. a few months ago i bought picrel from h&m and every once in a while i actually sleep with it in my arms when my mental health goes bad. it's surprisingly big and very soft and i love it very much.

I'm scared of my favorite plush getting ruined. I couldn't even buy another one because I don't know where to buy it or who the manufacturer even was, every time I've tried to search for it on google or ebay nothing comes up.

No. 164498

>>164496
Well I mean as long as it doesn't get any nasty stains it shouldn't be too much of a worry. Even if it gets stained, you can unstuff it and give it a wash in some warm soapy water and let it dry. I use a little nail brush to brush the fur out gently so it's nice n soft again. Then you just stuff it back up with the old stuffing or new and close up with the ladder stitch.

Some things would be harder to do that with though I guess, I have MLP plush from an artist that are made of microfleece and have these big heads and tiny bodies, and they have beans. I probably wouldn't want to unstuff those.
My niece got chocolate on all three of the ponies I had, womp womp.

My other favorite was Tracker, a Beanie Buddy I believe they were called? Also featured is his son, who you can see is a punk rocker based on his spiky necklace and ear piercing. He’s always been in a rebellious stage lol

I took big Tracker with be everywhere. Thanks for this thread, I’ve had them out but haven’t really paid much mind to them for awhile. Take a look at this cutie I got from the thrift store. Despite all the info on his tag, I haven't been able to find any more about him or the company that made him anywhere! I even checked the Weston, Ontario archives. If there are any web sleuth anons hanging out I would love if you you could find anything about the company and/or a picture of this doll using the info on the tag in picrel.
Now I've got a couple inquiries for you anons. First, is this a dog or a horse? I know he doesn't have a mane, which might not qualify him as a horse, but he has a certain horsey quality to his body doesn't he? I need your opinions!
The second question is in relation to his nose, it's missing! So I need to give him a new one. Unless someone or I find a picture of his original nose, I'm just gonna have to choose a nose for him and I'd love some opinions on that as well! What color should it be? (black, pink, red) What shape? (round, oval, triangle)
If you have any name suggestions feel free to leave them as well, but try and imagine him with a nose when you do it.

You can do it anon! Especially if you're starting out with simple cuties like that steggy. Patterns are just like a puzzle, or like one of those paper nets of geometric shapes, you think of how the object would look if it was flat. Most patterns have labels on them so it makes it easier to follow the steps. A gets sewn to A, B gets sewn to B etc. I would recommend reading the blog posts from the whileshenaps link in the resources of this thread, because she breaks down patterns really well.
As for stitches I would just watch lots and lots of YouTube videos on different stitches and pick one that you like best. For the best results, try and remind yourself to be consistent with spacing and the length of the stitches so that your stuffies don't come out lopsided or misshapen when stuffing!

I just noticed this thread and I find it really cute.
Op didn't mention this and I don't think anybody has linked her yet, but there's this lady that goes by Choly and her site has a ton of free plushie patterns with full intructions and stuff so maybe it would be of use to any of you:
https://cholyknight.com/plushies/
Also, I linked the plushies tab (obviously, this is the plush thread) but she also has patters for other things such as some wearable stuff, in case you're into sewing in general.

I actually wanted to try making a plushie and I even made the preparations, but I ended up not doing it soon enough so now I won't have a sewing machine available for a while. I'll try to get more into sewing when I have it available again.
I wanted to try making a plushie of Board-tan

I had a white dachshund plush made with the exact same weird white fabric as your horsedog, and the same derpy red tongue and eyes, but mine was missing an eye. I have no idea where mine came from but it must be from the same company, the resemblance is uncanny. I think it had a black triangle nose, so yours might have had one as well.

I rewatched this video 3 times, it's very cute. I'm sorry to still be THE sperg, but it's like an alternative reality Furby Baby. It's even more similar than regular Peepy. Goddamn it, I miss the 90's furbs.
NGL, I was almost tempted into considering buying OuiOui blind box. But then the cute animation ended and I was slapped into reality with how the plushie actually looks. I'm sorry, but it's so cheap!!! It's like this is some science experiment to see how far can good marketing take a slapdash product. Honestly, I can imagine an etsy 'fan work' or an aliexpress bootleg having better quality. Or maybe it's just the photo, IDK. The price is outrageous for something that looks like a bootleg, though.
Sorry for my angry vent, I really liked the video!

Aww I'm glad you liked it! I'm also like "should I or not…" because I honestly love baby ouioui a lot. It's cute!! I love the videos. but it's so cheaply made!! All I can think of is "maybe it's beauty lies in how imperfect it is". Maybe in the future when I have some disposable income I'll get one!
Watch this too btw

churu kim makes the cutest Animal Crossing plushes I've ever seen. I would instantly buy them if they had a shop. Really makes me wish Nintendo could've already make offical plushes of the villagers like Marshal, Raymond, Lolly, etc. or do a poll to have which villager plushes to be made. There are some good-looking unofficial plushes and not-so-good ones.

Thinking of buying one of these off Ebay. found some sellers that have it quite cheap but pre-owned condition. The sellers wash and disinfect all their used toys and have good reviews so that should be okay right? One seller has it brand new at my price range (at the very max price I'd pay for this) but it feels stupid paying that much for a toy that I won't be able to tell if it was used. With dolls and other goods it's not hard to tell but I feel like with a plushie the difference between gently used and brand new can't be that huge.

I really wanna make little fairy bears, with dainty wings made of tulle and cute tiny skirts. This brings a lot of memories back for me. I was on the lookout for a Babs Bunny plush a few years ago and found one manufactured by Applause I thought was the same as the one I had as a child, but after holding it for a few seconds, it just felt a little off and I knew this search wasn't over, but I'm glad to have a Babs Bunny plush either way.
I found an image of this one manufactured by Playskool and the memories came rushing to my head. This is the exact one I've been searching for. The material used for her mouth is so distinctly soft. I love it. The one I have now feels more like a toy you'd get at the carnival. Also, the one I had as a child had two poseable wires in the ears at the edges, the one I have only has one in the middle of the ears.

I unironically love Honeylambs stuff, but I can never find them when they're in stock. I'm thinking of frankenstiening my own plush like this, there is a thrift store around me that sells old stuffed animals for like 50 cents each. For anons with older stuffed toys, do you machine wash them or use like a fabric cleaner on them?

No. 186002

>>186001
If you want to thoroughly clean them, unstuff them and soak them in a little tub of warm soapy water before lightly scrubbing with your hands. Dry it out and then restuff. If you only need a light cleaning, use a damp cloth and wipe it down. Never put stuffies in the machine to wash because it will damage their fur, redistribute the stuffing unevenly, and if washed while stuffed they will not dry out properly and you risk mould growing inside. There are a lot of instagram accounts who are doing this sort of thing to their stuffies so you can look to them for inspiration or tips!

No. 186003

>>186001
Use a gentle laundry detergent btw. If your baby is white and you think you may need bleach, use very, very little. I use about a cap full for a real big mixing bowl I use to wash stuffies in.

Is it easy for somebody with new sewing experience to unstuff and clean a very old plush? There's one from the early 90s that I desperately want, but I'm also a neat freak and would want to make sure it's clean and fresh before snuggling it… It's very small, not larger than 1 foot.
I do a lot of amigurumi so I have stuffing I can use.
