thanks for making this thread! i think i remember you from the bunkers. i recently played a cool pc98 game called Azusa 999. it's not as aesthetically pleasing as what's been posted, but it's a really touching story that sort-of-recently got translated into english. only takes around 3 hours to play but the story is quite emotionally effective so i recommend it

i downloaded it from the translator's site: https://obskyr.io/azusa999/ if i recall correctly you do not need a pre-installed emulator, but there is an option to play it on an actual PC-98 as well, if anyone has one. the translation forward is worth a read too imo!

the gyaru character and purple haired girl are so cute! i'm studying japanese as well and it's really exciting to think about all the games, books, ect that i'll have access to once i get good enough at reading and comprehending the language. i wanna be able to translate games one day so that they'll be more accessible to others. i bet there's tons of hidden gems trapped behind a language barrier because they're too obscure for most translators to bother with them (which is understandable, translation/localization seems super time consuming and difficult)

ntayrt but i played yu-no a few years ago. the audio/visuals are spectacular and it has an interesting and engaging story, but parts of it are pretty rushed, and i feel like being so ambitious while also falling under the eroge genre leads to some very unfortunate plotlines and character dynamics. like it's doing its best to be serious and engaging just for the MC to do some typical anime protag horny boy shit, but it's in a 30+ hour game where having a limited amount of saves is part of the plotline and you have to use them to go back in time and go through every girl's route to unlock the second half of the game.
i guess what i'm getting at is if you have a lot of time and patience for typical hentai shit, and a guide to let you keep track of where to collect save points, it's a unique experience in the genre. if that sounds like too much i'd just recommend listening to the OST.

i played a fan translation that added voice acting from the sega saturn version and bonus content from a floppy that came out after the original game's release. google isn't helping me very hard with this one unfortunately, but i remember it ran off the windows re-release. grabbed it off of /vr/ back in like 2014.
