Just binged watched The Society on netflix and it’s not a good show i tend to hate teen drama and those types of shows but it was actually very entertaining and the show actually made me feel for the characters? Which normally happens with really good shows like game of thrones and such, i would def recommend it. The second season of The Rain also just came out which is also a show i’d highly recommend.

there's also an earlier movie version that follows a different arc/main character and shogun.

It's so well done. From the people on the top trying to downplay the damage at the expense of innocent common folk, to the claustrophobic halls and pathways within the plant. The acting is great, the gloomy setting, the story.

That scene with the cute doggo who was just happy to see the young soldier and he had to shoot him, the sound of the dog whimpering was too much. I had to take a long pause.Apparently, I'm a filthy normie for feeling sorry during the ep4. There were lots of comments on how the story with those three soldiers dragged on for too long and the scene in the village was just a cheap emotional stunt, but I thought it was a nice reminder that the

it was a crime that not only he got murdered, fucking Hopper didn't even let him watch his goddamn Looney Tunes in peace), but it doesn't change the fact that this season is unnecessary. The TV series should have ended after the first or second one. How many times monsters from the other side can attack Hawkins? It felt stale by the time I started watching the third season. The second one wrapped things up perfectly while leaving it up for the viewer's imaginations how will the future of everyone go.
Also the decision to make Hopper sacrifice himself (or rather go MIA as I don't believe he's dead - that's an obvious sequel bait) after a whole season of him acting like a total douchebag was an incredibly poor choice.
I liked Hopper in the previous seasons, but in this one he was constantly screaming at people and became a rather unpleasant character to spend time withDon't get me wrong, it's not bad (like GoT season 8 kek), but unnecessary.

I just finished watching Dark Shadows (free on Amazon if you have prime) and it was great background noise while I worked. It's very slowly paced but every once in a while, the story takes a turn out of left field that's crazy fun. It was shot live, so there are a ton of mistakes recorded for posterity which I'm sure the actors were totally thrilled about. It's also fun to look at the real fashions and hairstyles of the late sixties onward.
Because of that, I fell down a rabbit hole of old soap operas and found a channel that has all the episodes of a show called Port Charles. Like Dark Shadows, they were sort of bumbling along until they decided to add vampires. Needless to say, if you care about serious story, this is not the show for you.
It's either really good or really, really bad, but it's much more fun than Dark Shadows and so far I'm loving it. You can jump in at the first 'book' Tainted Love (they stole the idea of short arcs from telenovelas) which is where the craziness begins. Don't worry about characters or backstory, you'll pick it all up quickly.
If you like ghosts and vampire slayers (seriously) and magic candles and angels and all kinds of other loony in serial form, take a look, you might like it!

Anyone checked out Glow on Netflix? Season 3 dropped eariler this month, but I'm already hoping it doesn't fall victim to Netflix's 3 season cancellation.
It's based on GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling). They heavily based the chacracters from the real-life show but it focuses more on the production rather than the wrestling.
There are a lot of characters but it does a good job of giving each of them a bit of development throughout the season. l also apercaite the interactions between the some of the characters you wouldn't expect to make connections. A lot of times shows with huge cast only focus on the same few characters interacting with the same groups together so I love when there's some unexpected kinship between them. the main character may be the worst one but I'm watching for everyone else
If you're a fan of 80's shit, training montages and majority female cast with some light drama, I'd recommend it. Also the documentary on the real-life show for context.

And are we supposed to cheer for her because she still wants to make it as an actress? She is boring and uptight, and she should’ve taken the opportunity Debbie gave her. I also loved the story about
Bash and his coming out! I mean, we all expected it but still, it was interesting and sad. Sheilas glow-up was cool, too. I like how they pick difficult topics and examine them very thoroughly from different perspectives. And I love Debbie’s outfits so much. I want to be her.

Just binged all of the new Amazon show Undone. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it. The animation style takes some time to get used to, and still looks odd and distracting in certain scenes. And the main character is really annoying, and unlikable, and a major SJW which was really off putting, but the story and other characters were interesting enough to keep me watching. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending though. I both liked it, and disliked it for being a cliff hanger. And I'm worried if the show gets more seasons, it's just going to go on and on, and never get a satisfactory conclusion, like most tv shows. But all in all, I recommend it.

Even Joe's character has become really unlikable and in a way I felt like the whole point of him narrating is to somehow empathise and justify his actions. In the book I felt like there were some specific times that I felt like Joe was a horrible fucking person but for the majority of it I sort of glossed over it and he seemed almost normal. if i remember correctly the series originated from italy so the english translation was really silly.

Has anyone watched Tiger King yet? From a documentary POV, it's meh, but it's insanely entertaining. All these people could easily be cows and I sort of wish I'd watched it all unfold online instead of watching it now. I was shocked by how cheap it is to buy a tiger too - not much more than a purebred pet dog or cat from a breeder! I also need more about Doc so they can expose his creepy polygamist cult ass.

I read them as a child. They were pretty decent and had a cohesive over-all story, although not cannon. (I think there were two series, the one depicted here and another one with character stories?)
Really loved WITCH as a kid. It was sad to see the quality get worse over the years. The TV series was crap. I wish they had invested more resources into making the TV series (and cartoons) better in order to keep the popularity going.
Apparently Italy really love their mahou shoujo genre. WINX club came after and has made a cultural impact, according to Wikipedia. I was too old for WINX when it came out so I never liked the series, even though I tried.

Then we have in my opinion the best episode of the entire show and until the end it stays an incredible wild ride. I was really scared of how esmail was gonna end the series. To me it was a make it or break it type of situation. But he absolutely did not disappoint.
As a whole, I think Mr robot is a masterpiece. The visuals, acting, storytelling, music…. I could go on and on lmao.

Binged the entire five seasons of Breaking Bad just so Walt could finally
receive his comeuppance which imo wasn't harsh enough. What a loser character, I fucking hated him. This is one of those shows where all the characters are obviously written by male producers. I read online reviews where people actually thought his wife Skyler was the annoying nag character, but if you watch the series she's perhaps even a bit too permissive and gullible of Walt's shenanigans. She barely gave him the shit he deserved and for how things turned out not anywhere near enough. The sexual scenes were so gross, I know it's pretend but I wanted to vom whenever Walt's ugly, wrinkly, bald ass old man character was feeling up on Skyler. Barf.
>>82829>Don't fuck with cats glorifies internet sleuths Lmao, they literally didn't do anything. There was nothing tying "don't fuck with cats" to the actual meat of the investigation. It was a huge contrivance because Netflix wanted an edgy title and some relatable loser characters for the internet detectives out there.
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez was really good if that's still around.

With Jesse she clearly did not like that Walter was meeting with a sketchy AF person behind her back and taking drugs. He was acting weird AF and she was right that something was wrong. Maybe it was not the best way of handling the issue, but Skyler was right to be concerned.

The difficulty of feminist representations is that it can sometimes get a little idealistic, trying to offer many great role models of women that “can do it all”. which can be very high-pressure for some women. Sometimes people don’t want to be inspired to be amazing, I want to feel allowed to be mediocre and petty. So the main character being a mess up and a loser was kinda empowering in a way,

>>83345I think Skylar was being selfish by letting Walt back into her home and life, buying a car wash with him, and using his drug money for anything at all. She jeopardized her kids safety multiple times by doing this, because we all know the cartel has no issues with killing a whole family to gain leverage or get back at someone. In BCS, Jimmy has done a lot to keep Kim out of his cartel business because he understands this. Walt and Skylar apparently don't.
At one point, I felt like maybe she was going along with it because she was scared of him, but when she fucked him later on, that just kind of made me dislike her. She got so mad at him for all the lies and the shit he pulled but she's a hypocrite because she not only helped him commit crimes but also helped Ted Beneke too. Just finished Little Fires Everywhere yesterday and it was good, but not memorable. I was bored watching Reese Witherspoon play her character from Big Little Lies again. The kids were all great, and I did tear up over Mia and Izzy's bond – I was incredibly similar to Izzy when I was younger, mommy issues, sexuality and all. Moody seems like a budding incel. The uneducated racist daughter had a good storyline. Bebe's was boring – she was never going to win the case. Both of the main mothers would absolutely be the subject of r/raisedbynarcissists and for that reason I disliked them both.

>>94754I'm still mad as hell about it omg. It's such an insane waste that they saved Merlin's magic reveal to the very end. We got the bare minimum of time for Arthur to process it, it was so unsatisfying after 5 seasons of it being a massive source of conflict and a defining factor of their dynamic. It should have been revealed at the start of a season, so we get all that time for Arthur to react properly. There's so much potential for emotion and meaningful relationship development… anger, betrayal, being conflicted over his principles, really understanding and respecting Merlin, and eventually accepting magic. Also it would have been hilarious seeing him realize all the times Merlin saved his ass. I fucking love their relationship, it's so disappointing we never got to see it resolved with more depth.
And in retrospect, it's just like… what was the point of anything that happened if it ended like that? It's like Merlin's long game plan was to just… idk, hang around Arthur and continually protect him from magic, with no intention of ever actually changing his mind and have him grow to accept Merlin himself and magic in general. Instead he just let it get worse and worse with magic posing a constant threat, it's not like Arthur would have organically changed his mind with that happening. I guess the writers wanted to make the point that Merlin just straight up failed because he kept ignoring the dragon's advice and didn't kill a bunch of characters who weren't evil at the time, but that's so unfair.
Phew that was a rant. It's a mediocre show in terms of plot, writing and effects but it always made me laugh, and Arthur and Merlin are so endearing together that it's still special to me. At least it has a surprisingly active fandom with a tonne of ending rewrites to compensate.

My favorite thing about it was that the show itself and Retsuko are relatable, but with the events of s3 it's not relatable at all anymore unfortunately.
Honestly I'm just really upset for Manaka, who is really driven and works hard to make her dream come true, even though it's believed she has no chance because of her age, and then Retsuko comes and has everything given to her on a silver plate.
Also at this point Haida is just a pathetic creep, being in love for five years with a coworker that barely talks to him on a daily basis - unless she needs something - and rejecting anyone that would actually be interested in him and have things in common. >>106052I didn't really like this season.
They ruined Haida for me
I know indecisive soyboy is a legit stereotype for men in Japan but I don't find it endearing. Especially when Haida puts on a tough guy front but literally leads on a woman who practically spoonfed herself to him, which is more than what Retsuko ever did in the entire five year run, because uwu~so indecisive~uwu. He didn't deserve her. Inui handled it like a champ but I think more women ought to lose their shit over those games, it sends a bullshit message about the fuckery women are expected to endure imho. Haida was being a piece of shit and would've deserved a consequence. And ugh, the scene where Fenneko pressed Haida to say why he even likes Retsuko when he only knows anything about her from work: So he flashbacked to this lame scene where she was ~stealing water from work~ so he knew she was a more-than-meets-the-eye baddie deep down for being a "water thief" LOL FUCKING WAT. Don't even get me started with that bullshit final episode where their motivations are at odds and
Haida is a dick in the song he sings to her, how tf do you call someone a "chicken" after they've been assaulted with a boxcutter? inb4 "He was trying to show her how being reclusive and indecisive is bad!" Well friendos, that's coming from a guy who couldn't even pick his romantic interest for 5 years, so. Also, I thought it was a bad sign when Haida started to hang out with
Tadano because he was another dude who couldn't give Retsuko what she needed and wanted. They were trying to make him sound more insightful for Haida than he actually was imo. However I was hoping that Gori and
Tadano were going to ship by the end of the season because they both seem career-ambitious and less children-oriented, and I feel he could help Gori out with her
debt and give her the rich lifestyle she deserves and clearly wants. It was cute how they had a shared tech moment and I really hope that didn't just happen cause they're both orbiting plot devices for Retsuko.
Unpopular Opinion: The idol storyline was shit and was so out of character for Retsuko. Manaka was way too
mentoring and nice towards Retsuko who basically swooped in and pulled the pecking order from under her feet after she worked so hard for years. She was somehow okay with being
sidelined knowing she is an "older idol" with not many years left. It wasn't believable at all. Then I was supposed to believe that timid, shy Retsuko who had a problem with people knowing her karaoke secret and can barely deal with confrontation, who's never been actually trained for dancing or singing, would have what it takes to naturally
go up on a public stage and be a frontlining idol right off the bat with no awkward slip ups and next to zero mistakes. Uh huh. And then the last episodes where she throws caution to the wind despite the
creepy stalker skulking around her work and she just exists all naively…lmao, totally forced to progress the plot because her character is way more anxious and cautious than that. And then she just…
leaves the group as if that will resolve her identity being exposed and public now riiight. Oh and the part where she was slated to make way more money following her passion. Nah, she'll take the downgrade to go back working for asshole Ton for less money to be with ball-less bassist coworker Haida again.
Butchered character development.
I think the producers just bit off more than they could chew with this season so the last two episodes felt really rushed and forced.

>>106411I really felt ambivalent towards this season. Haida and Restuko have no chemistry imo, and I know Retsuko’s character is being naive and passive but she really was ridiculous that last episode. Isn’t she usually quite cautious? Why ignore a direct warning from someone? And on the other hand the concluding discussion between her and Haida was so confusing, since the scene just before practically said that she needs time and to not push her but
the app said they’re soulmates so it’s obviously fine!. I think there was so much wasted potential there as it seemed like they just wanted to wrap it all up in a nice status-quo bow when that just won’t work.
In general to me the idol subplot felt like they opened a huge can of worms. I had thought she would at least go for a secret identity thing, which I guess she tried but it’s not really discussed.
Inu was done soo dirty. And I agree on your Gori ship, I really thought it was about to happen and it…didn’t?
I’m still holding out hope for the next season because I do still (mostly) like the characters. Sidenote, I feel like I’m going crazy, I can’t understand some of what Ton says (eng dub)

Is Retsuko engdub any good? Never tried but I heard that they mistranslate things and twist them around.
However, I am laughing at "sounds like chicken to me", because
In the original, Haida says, "ii gomibun dana" which can be translated as "what/that's a nice situation/life." Given the combination of "gomibun" (polite speech) and "da na" (informal, casual speech), the tone comes across as sarcastically respectful. Also idk if there would be a way for any of them to sing something "nice" because its a death metal genre. I am not WKing Haida (my fave char is a bird and Fenneko anyway) but to me it looked like that he tried provoking her so she would finally open up her true feelings, considering through midseason all her friends did were being concerned over her being secretive and talking about how she always bottles everything up.
I liked the Inu-chan but I thought that the way she tries to start dating him was way too quick but thats just me ig. Other than that she's nice.
So far I loved this season because of idol industry arc and many dynamics with different characters. Very cute.

>>106505>Is Retsuko engdub any good?No, it's hideous.
I'm glad to see someone not dumping on Haida. His shallow fixation on Retsuko is cringe, but I agree he's the only one that actually DID anything to help her rather than just letting her wallow and become a hikikomori. Yeah being assaulted is terrifying, but they mention it had been weeks since she even came out of her room and was on the verge of losing her job. She still ended up telling him off for seeing her as this idealized projection of herself, so in the end they both got to express themselves. Hopefully they actually get to know one another next season, regardless of whether they get together or just become friends.
I also don't see the fuss over Inui. She was… fine? Honestly kind of boring, she was "nice" and apparently liked the same music as Haida. Wow. Then she pushed him to admit his feelings for Retsuko as she was lying passed out in his arms after he got stabbed by a maniac. Then she's all, "Oh I guess this isn't the best time for this." Lol, no shit.

>>106567Fair enough. I can totally agree it's likely I'm not into her because I just don't know much about her, so she comes across as a somewhat shallow character.
It kind of reminds me of Resasuke actually. He seems like this total loser mute which is even funnier because it contrasts with Retsuko's bishounen image of him, but right at the end we see he's a sweet dude that loves plants. I don't believe plant people can be bad lol. I would've loved to see more of his quiet inner world, but he wasn't intended to be a main character.
It's funny because that ties back into Haida for me. Retsuko gets this pass on overidealizing someone, but Haida doesn't? Retsuko was turning Resasuke completely into someone else, whereas it was actually a very "real" thing that Retsuko did that first caught Haida's attention. I saw a lot of people bashing him for not being able to mention something specific about her personality and bringing up a seemingly inconsequential moment, but I think it's sort of cute that it was something so banal that intrigued him.

>>106719I thought about this not to refute it or anything. For me, it's the acting mostly and being taken off guard and surprised by the very well-acted craziness and character dynamics. And just the sheer chaotic power of Villanelle.
You're right that it's not great cinema where you can fully immerse yourself in a coherent plot with realistic characters. It's sheer over the top craziness, moral/rational chaos and upheaval of any order. I think there is a lot of comedy and satire going on. I can't say if the show does that well or if it that's a waste.
I don't think Eve is a Mary Sue at all though. She really comes across as a smart, funny, emotionally a bit shallow, awkward confused woman whose moral compass is spinning wildly because of her contained desires. Maybe Sandra Oh's acting helps that for me or it's just Sandra Oh I'm actually watching (lol). Maybe you mean self-insert?
For me, the irrationality and darkness of the show is mirroring reality and also personally cathartic somehow as I'm an anxious overthinker. Maybe it could be written more seriously but the show does well what it does that way.
Villanelle is just drop dead gorgeous, chaotically powerful, scarily loveable and entertaining and the crazy relationship dynamics are interesting and entertaining af.
I'm also glad for the good chemistry Eve/Villanelle have.
Just watching Villanelle going from being a terrifying killer freezing my blood to being an equally terrifying but somehow loveable, funny and playful goofball in the next scene gives me life. Or coming into a scene in a literally killer styling. She is a psycho without a moral compass and not a feminist rolemodel or anything at all but she is completely uninhibited by the neurotic worries your average woman is bound to have in this society. And that's just a relief and liberation.
Jodie Comer is a really great, versatile actress with a lot of depth matching Mads Mikkelsen easily. Men irl are a little scared of her haha

>>111331>>111338I actually really liked those episodes since they resonated with me. Actually, the entirety of PEN15 captures my middle school experience in such an authentic and funny (if lowbrow) way that I just can’t help but love the show. It helps, of course, that I’m only around 5 or 6 years younger than the writers/actresses, so we’re generationally very close.
I was a chronic masturbator as a preteen, and like many or even most women, I was raised in an environment where women’s bodies and sexualities were unspoken at best and weird and shameful at worst. I didn’t understand the lizard brain shit going in my skull directing me to endlessly masturbate upon the discovery of the feel good button between my legs, and absolutely no adult was going to educate me on what was happening in a nonjudgmental way. Jungle music may as well have been playing in my head because it was really such an animalistic urge, and I was probably just as unsexy and slack jawed as Maya when I did it.
I really liked the article posted on Bustle talking about the episode:

>>111289I liked Owen, Hannah, and Jamie a lot. The show was disappointing to me as well, even though I actually enjoy family drama a lot. I was expecting more spooks which I'm definitely underwhelmed by but even the family drama was lame. By the second half/last third of the season things just turned into endless exposition and backstory that was not revealed in an interesting way. What began as a fun, almost whodunnit-adjacent mystery (for instance, noticing Hannah doesn't eat starting from the first episode and keep noticing she does not, thinking is she anachan or dead or what) that eventually just turned into entire episodes completely spelling out every detail. I think they should have let Dani solve the mystery of the backstory instead of telling the audience all of it via so many flashbacks. Part of me thinks there is a version of the script that actually does this, but was deemed too subtle for a general audience, as execs often think audiences are stupid af.
That being said I was not completely enthralled by Hill House either. I liked it but I wasn't obsessed. I would rate the funeral episode 10/10, however.

The lead character is portrayed as a genius with near superhuman intellect and memory, but also ~totes awkward~ because autism. I hate how autistic people are always portrayed as genius savants with the social awareness of a whiny toddler.

People are less likely to recognize the signs of autism when all they they see are Rain Man-type characters on TV. And yes, I know it's not TV's job to educate people, but autism is already pretty misunderstood and it sucks to see these ridiculous stereotypes as the only representation.

I don't think someone would even have to be into sci-fi to enjoy it, it's almost Mad Max-ish in the post apocalyptic setting but instead of road warriors you have space Templars and killer androids. Started watching it recently and am a little over halfway through. It's surprisingly original in a time where it seems like everything is a gritty remake or blatant rip of some other, pre-existing IP. The world feels like it has actual depth, and while the religion vs. science debate isn't new, I appreciate that the writers aren't ham-fisted and show good and bad on both sides. It quietly explores the philosophical themes without feeling pretentious, letting them take a backseat to character development.
Mother and Father are my favorite characters, they're perfect complements to one another. The actors do a fantastic job of creating empathy while expressing just the right amount of inhumanity. Tempest is cool, and it's interesting to follow Marcus and Sue, seeing how they're struggling to adapt to their new reality. Quality is really high and while a good amount of effects are used it never feels cheap or distracting. I hope there's a season 2, I worry about shows that actually take chances and require viewers to think.

>>115442Have you watched Penny Dreadful? It's not centered around a boarding school but it is definitely gothic, involves scenes in manors and has several great female characters, especially Vanessa (Eva Green) and Lily (Billie Piper). It suffers from an abrupt ending because it unfortunately got cancelled, but before that it was spot on in creating that Gothic horror vibe.
I have not watched it, but I've also heard good things about The Living and the Dead. It's about a young couple that inherits a farm but strange supernatural activity starts threatening them. It's filmed around Horton Court, a 16th-century manor house in Gloucestershire.

>>115489Oh, I'd also like to add Alias Grace. It's based on a novel by Atwood set in mid-19th century Canada. The lead character has been accused of the murder of her former master, but she supposedly has no memory of the day it happened, so a psychiatrist is brought in to work with her. The story is centered around the heroine's life and while it's not gothic, there are flashbacks to asylums and a building intensity since it's a murder mystery. Still, a period piece and quite feminist.

Highly recommend The Hockey Girls on Netflix! It's a Catalan language teen drama about a girls hockey team. It kind of reminds me at times of Skins UK because it's more of an edgy european drama with a good amount of sex and drugs. I LOOOOVE all the girls on the team they're all very different types of girls with their own compelling storylines and problems outside of the team. It can get a little ~girl boss~y at times and cheesy but I really like it. There are some important topics it addresses like abortion and there's a fantastic episode about losing your virginity and how it is NOT a magical experience and can actually be traumatizing when youre not ready. I really love this show I could go on forever.

Wow the finale was…really not good. I understand it was a hard series to flesh out an ending for, but the decisions don't quite agree. It didn't really evoke an emotional reaction from me, maybe because the characters acted like their scripts towards the end and not like actual people. Season 3 and 4 was a lot of padding and the writers tripping over themselves for a resolution.
You have to believe in major premises for season 4 to work:
>All humans are proven redeemable because they got a narccistic white male to apologize to someone he was an asshole to, completely glossing over other issues that would make arguments that someone is redeemable harder like being a rapist, sociopath, or murderer.
>In the perfect afterlife where anyone can be redeemed, your eternal soul will become over-fulfilled to the point of wanting out of a place of everlasting happiness if you so choose.
>Being fulfilled and bored with it means you will become a "mushbrain" and regress into a forgetful afterlife idiot equivalent.
>The only solution to the aforementioned issues is an afterlife-euthenasia-doorway that promises to yeet your eternal self into non-existence when you've had enough.
It was pretty soft imo.

Currently halfway through watching Selena The Series and I like it! There's a lot of people going after it after not even watching a full episode and claiming to be a super fan, but you quickly notice they bring up the same 3 talking points on why it's bad (the wigs, being too light skinned/not native looking enough, and the production quality) Honestly, I don't care. The movie is not even 2 hours, the series is 6 hours, of course it ain't gonna be up to par.
Anyways, the family worked closely on this series so IDK what else people want.
I think they portray Selena really accurately in the 80s scenes. I like the equal focus on the siblings. Suzi deserves more solo moments! I haven't got to any Chris Perez parts, but I think they are about to introduce him so I can't wait to see what's in store.

Wanna talk about Gotham, I watched the show religiously, I participated fandom and I have a love sorta hate relationship with the show, I Just wanna talk about the First season though, its where most fans are split on
The first season is wierd in how less wierd it is compared to how the show would get to be, certain plot points and characters feel more at home with a show like the Sopranos then a DCshow and its fairly grounded(well as grounded as most police procedural cop shows are)
Like the most unbelievable things that happen in the first season are 1) A drug called Viper which gives people above average physical strength but kills them afterwards if they didn't keep using it and 2) A hypnotized serial killer that targets the wealthy and both these plot points could work in any CSI/criminal minds-esquce cop show, most of the season is about the rise of a child of an immigrant through the mob by backstabbing, deceiving and murdering all in his path and he just happens to be the Penguin, other then a slightly bent nose and a choice to wear suits first season Gotham penguin has nothing in common with any interpretations/adaptations of Penguin ever
Season 2 is where the insanity starts rising and by season 3 people are coming back from the dead, people have super strength and are bulletproof and everything is a like a live action edgy comic book
Most fans prefer the other seasons but I personally do find a charm in the first season in how its just a cop show set in Gotham and how rediculous Batman villains are adapted as gangsters with funny nicknames or serial killers, would have been interesting if they continued that path but I'm not complaining, I did like the show

I personally like that it portrays grooming in a not-so-obvious way, because that's really how it is sometimes. I also appreciate that it doesn't totally demonize the teacher, as shitty as she is. I guess my only real complaint is the way the sex scenes were portrayed, like it was something erotic and exciting. Maybe in a way, to the characters, it is. Idk my feelings on some of this is complicated, being a victim of grooming myself, but it was an entertaining watch. 7/10 also sorry but it was stupid af how she told on herself to a coworker. How are you a teacher but not aware of mandated reporting. That part was stupid af

I'm going to recommend some supernatural/occult stuff in general since you included WWDitS and they're vamps not religious creatures. Hemlock Grove was good pulpy fun, with some genuinely nasty gore and one of the best werewolf transformation sequences. Penny Dreadful is also solid, there are some aspects of romance but it's pretty low-key and takes a backseat to the plot. Eva Green is great in it. The Magicians too, maybe? First two seasons were probably best sci-fi ever seen on TV, third was lacking a bit compared to them but it was necessary to lay out the stage for all the future events. My only wish is that they had more CGI money for these ships, design work is already fantastic, I guess this season they spent it all on episode 4 robot.

How could Marco be such an idiot? The only character I think I hate more is Murtry! But at least Murtry didn’t try to veil his bullshit with self righteous aggrandizing. Like I totally understand where marcos coming from but my god, the lengths he’s willing to go to and not to mention that it seems pretty obvious he’s planning to be the new boot on the necks of belters. They spell it out pretty clear when they talk about belters having children on planets, that they won’t be considered belters or whatever. Just he decided this course of action for a lot of people and I can’t imagine it ending well. Super hype to see how things play out though.

I recently started watching Bridgerton because of the hype and I wanted something a bit more romantic to watch. It's eh… I'm really not feeling the chemistry between the actors
The colour-blind casting also puts me off slightly? There's a scene in one of the episodes where they talk about how the king with one of 'them' and since then society has been equal. That's hardly colour-blind casting at that point imo. That's basically casting to be more diverse.
BBC2 has started showing The Investigation and I'm really enjoying it.

Are they blind these actors all look like they are in their late 20s/early 30s, Riverdale has better casting than this.
Also, the GALL to have Terra mention she has a cousin named Flora and make the Musa/Tecna stand-in be as annoying as possible.
I'll give them something, though, I really liked Aisha, the actress is probably the youngest looking of the bunch and she seems to have kept most of Aisha's actual personality.

I’m watching Bling Empire and all I can think is damn, these men sort of SUCK. Every woman’s relationship is either unnecessarily stressful or she would be better off single. I don’t doubt the producers had a lot to do with this, but it’s ridiculous. From showing Jamie’s pad to Christine very obviously being a small scale antagonist, telling Cherie “my parents would have called me a slut if I got pregnant before being married” at Cherie’s newborn photoshoot while knowing full well Cherie’s mother just passed away.
Anna is my favorite cast member. She doesn’t take shit from anyone. I was appalled for her when Kim threw her penis pump outside the window in front of everyone. But she was so cool about it. She stated Kim wasn’t someone fit to be in her world, and left it at that.

Anyone here watched the new Euphoria special episodes?? I'm so fucking pissed at it.
Like, the director apparently was unhappy that everyone antagonized manic pixie dream girl Jules in season one because of how shit she was to Rue and wanted to show how hard it is to love someone who's an addict which, fair, that's an interesting perspective to their relationship.
What annoyed me, though, is that he felt the need to try to excuse away or write off (not even consider, sometimes) the shitty selfish things Jules does in season one.
In the 1s episode of the special when Rue talks about Jules cheating on her and how upset it made her feel, the character she's talking to (and her mentor) is like "well but where you guys really in a relationship? did you specifically tell each other you were dating?" when they HAD been dating for a few weeks by the end of the series when Jules cheated on her and as if that's not gaslighting 101.
And then, on the next episode, Jules doesn't even acknowlegde her cheating on Rue at all and even says she has loved Rue since the day they met which makes absolute zero sense for anyone watching the series because it's not true at all. Jules was completely obsessed with Nate at the start of season one, she did not have feelings for Rue, he just wants to retcon it to make people fell bad for Jules.
So so annoying that they start Jules' episode by saying she's "too hard on herself" and never even touching on how she can be selfish and self-centered at all, like they couldn't allow her to have any flaws at all.
Anyway, sorry, rant over. I like Jules character I just hate that she's being treated as this angel who can't do wrong.
No. 123701
>>123623I really don't understand how they were dating? I feel like the whole show is pretending something happened that didn't. I understood when Rue claimed they were dating because she is obsessed and it makes sense that she'd cling on to something that's never been explicitly said, but they literally had one kiss (that didn't go well) and a codependent friendship.
I was more confused about Jules saying she loved Rue in this episode because she's never done anything to indicate she likes Rue as anything more than a friend who gives her extra attention.
Throughout the whole show, I understood that Rue loved Jules and jules didn't mind being friends with Rue to feel wanted and now suddenly in the two special eps I'm meant to have known somehow that they were girlfriends who were in love?!?!?

I'm sort of glad they took the transformations away. They wouldn't fit within the series at all imo.
Also funny you complain about male fairies when I don't think they were a major point of the cartoon either. Though I'd argue that Sam is sort of important to the story and is a fairy.

>>124037Stella wasn't a mean girl in the cartoon at all? Sure she was kinda arrogant but she was super nice to Bloom and the other girls and was legit a good friend. In the life action she is a horrible person to literally everyone for no good reason. I also hate how they have to force in a stupid love triangle, i guess girls in shows cant be friends with eachother anymore. There always has to be a fight about a boy or some other dumb shit.
It's true that the transformations wont fit in with the style they choose for this serie. They want to make this so serieus and edgy its not even funny. I would loved it if they made a show that was just super campy and with cute 2000 inspired fashion.
Also can i just say that the girls didnt feel like real friend at all? Like
>>124001 said Aisha was just there to mother Bloom because she wants to do stupid shit all the time, Terra was just their to be annoying and insecure and Musa was doing nothing. Stella isn't even a friend or part of the group?
And yeah the shows uses alot of references like riverdale and "internet lingo". They throw sometimes the word feminist in and have Terra go in a rant about how she doesnt need her brother and father to stand up for her because thats sexist!!111!!
Im pretty sure the the cartoon show or one of the movies had a female specialist tho? But i never rememberd any fairies but tbh in the netflix show they might as well erase the whole fairy stuff and make them witches.
Sorry for the huge sperg but i used to love winx as a little girl and it's such a good source material, it has a diverse cast, female friendship that isn't
toxic and that doesn't have petty fights about boyfriends. And yet they decide to make it like all the other popular young teen netflix series.

No. 124061
>>124059>>124044>>124043I honestly hated how the friendships developed because they were wayyy too quick and made no sense in the grand scheme of things. I also hope if there's a second season that they explore Aisha more because she clearly had something going on and Bloom dismissed it, and then it was never really mentioned again.
I have seen people elsewhere mention that this was probably low budget and they're waiting for season 2 confirmation to increase the number of episodes, and hopefully develop the characters a bit more as the whole season wouldn't be focused on Bloom looking for her past.
The characters not being like their cartoon selves also makes sense because otherwise there would be little to no character development and the whole thing would be stale. They clearly drew on the 'rich bitch' thing for inspiration on where to start Stella off as a character, she'll probably develop to be more bubbly after.
Honestly, I think feel for hardcore fans of Winx but I also think they are forgetting that that something like the cartoon wouldn't really work as a live action thing aimed at a more teenage audience. Plus, most of the episodes were basically structured around having a new fight and winning, sort of how Pokemon was basically structured around catching a new Pokemon each episode (at the start at least).
Gonna go ahead and voice the probably more unpopular opinion - I really hope they don't add anyone else into the main cast they have established. I know people want Flora and Tecna, but I think that leaving it as fairly simplistic elements and exploring what they can do with those works far better.

The Expanse anons, how did you like the season finale?
I love all the setup this season did, raising the tension in the solar system, really curious where it all will go, will it be a full blown war? What's exactly that Martians know about protomolecule, and what happened to that ship at the end? Will Filip take over and become even worse and more cruel terrorist than his dad?
On the worse side, seems like they really wanted to get rid of the actor playing Alex, but it still doesn't excuse the way they handled what was essentially a major character death. There's literally one 2 seconds long shot of his dead body, short conversation between Amos, Holden and Naomi that is actually kinda humoristic almost because of Amos caring more about adding Clarissa to the party than Alex's death, information that his ex who pretty much hated him will deal with the funeral and that's it, forgotten. Really weird.

Ever watch a series that started off with a bomb premise and really good first episodes, but by mid-season the writing devolves into an annoying slow burn & the last few episodes of the season tend to be complete shit as if the writers ran out of ideas? Today I got a clip from a speech on my front page of youtube by Michaela Cole and it made me wanna watch Chewing Gum, one of her most acclaimed tv shows, I finished it all today since it's short and I can't only describe it in one word "scroteish", in that video, she seemed like a nice reasonable woman and I looked forward something she wrote, produced, and acted in even but man was I disappointed, everything about it was bad and genuinely felt like it was written by a man.
The excessive BDSM reference, too many "comedic" sex scenes, sex jokes everywhere, porn, insect, beastiality, race fetishization, barely legal sex… the list goes on, and none of it is funny or tackles any issues, it's just there for novelty I assume but every episode has a sex scene, it's only 24 minutes and they still put a sex scene every other minute.
The acting is over the top and annoying, I hated all the character, the dynamic is shit, everyone is just doing favours for MC and it feels like a bad self-insert, MC has no goal but to lose her virginity for the whole show and that's all the show is about, I thought there would be more but no, it's just that, her relationship with her mother and sister don't improve that much and are just surface level and no character developed ever except for Roland he becomes a cartoon villain but you don't even get a satisfying end it just leaves you hanging, Candice and Aaron break go through different arguments and none of them gets solved and they just move on until they break up out of the blue in the last episode, all the characters are badly written and their plots seem to take a different direction then stop there and go back to supporting MC.
the fits and the makeup are awful, the cinematography is terrible, and gives you no satisfaction.
The whole show is bad not in a low culture type of way where it's entertaining to watch developed because this show goes NOWHERE not even the jokes have a punchline half of the time, it's just bad bad.
2/10 I wasted my fucking time.

Holy shit farmers, y'all need to watch Tokyo Girl on Amazon Prime. I spotted it while browsing and went into it knowing nothing. Ended up so blown away by this gem. The show follows the life of a small town girl starting in her teens then follows her life all the way into her 40s as she chases her dreams of moving to Tokyo, having a successful career, finding love and starting a family ("having it all"). It was so insanely relatable. The way she finds little moments of happiness in the midst of a hectic life, the big wins, the crushing letdowns, the failed relationships, the unexpected friendships, the setbacks and sense of hope as she picks herself up again. The way no one was 100% good or evil, they're all just people trying to lead fulfilling lives. You really get a sense of how she matures as a person and yet how even those at the top of their game struggle in their own ways. I almost never cry over media but I cried near the end. It was such a breath of fresh air amid so many shows filled with melodrama, inane dialogue and meaningless arcs. It really felt true to a lot of women's realities and I binge watched it all in one sitting. Highly recommend.

>>129407>>130372I absolutely loved Chewing Gum. I found it funny, enjoyable, relatable, and not scrote-ish at all, at least unintentionally. If anything, that factor would be due to the main character’s inability to “catch up” to her own ideas of maturity and sexiness built upon her own over sexualization and a sense of gravure she’d either access from men or from women who weren’t ~like her~. I think she was supposed to have the maturity of a teenager. It’s one of those shows that is better the closer it is to its audience imo. I went away from it enjoying the ending. I thought the character growths were fine even if they weren’t massive, especially for the sister. I liked both Chewing Gum and Fleabag, but I prefer Chewing Gum. I think overall it was a better written show. Maybe you’ve never had cringe 1st generation virgin loser era when you were younger but I find that concept more understandable than an absolute fleabag adulterous manipulator era in your adult years.

The plot had so much fucking potential, I'm so mad, I want to FUCKING EXPLODE.
Why is the protagonist always nude or half-naked. Why did she become so "girly-girly uwu feminine fashionista" when she started to earn money, all because "mean girls :((" in her class bullied her for not wearing cute dresses?????????????? WHAT the F? Are we really playing those tropes in 2021?? Really????
AND OF course instead of portraying her as a strong woman who doesn't need dresses or makeup to be of value, nooooooooo, she plays along and the very first thing she buys with her own money is a chess board… and a dress ;)) you know, so you, the viewer, REMEMBER she is "A WOMAN GUYS!!!!!11!!!1!".
What kind of aseop was that? What in the actual shit. No commentary on the way society forces you to be feminine, no commentary ON ANYTHING.
And of cooourse, they had to put a scene with one of the "mean girls" being an unhappy wife, sob sob, oh no, mean girl got what she deserved, now she's pregnant and stuck with her (probably) incompetent husband, compared to stunning protagonist who seems to be attracted to every other male on the cast GOD KNOWS WHY and has sex on a daily basis uwu. Is she a nymphomaniac?? We'll never know!

And btw, that's another thing that bothers me, her age and how she's portrayed regardless of it. That, and all the adult males saying she has "become a woman" just because she's wearing "trendy outfits". She's fucking 17. Se-ven-teen. Good god, fucking creeps. I hate male-gaze.

>>132634The character was never shown to be interested in clothes until she started being bullied by "feminine mean girls that hate nerds" at school. I think that tells something, but the show glosses over it and plays her interest in fashion as something she was supposed to develop eventually.
I get a lot of people liked the fashion, and no hard feelings but… this show was about chess, not clothes. Can you imagine a movie about a chess grand-master focusing on the male protagonist trying on different suits and how trendy he is? Yeah, no.
No. 132639
>>132636I agree with you anon, i really like fashion and the outfits in the series are very pretty but it's kinda weird how they never really explored her interested in fashion? Like i dont mind that she has a different interest then just chess lol but like you said it was really glossed over.
I did stop watching the series early because when the
mom died it was very obvious for me that it would happen and i didnt feel anything because we barely know her, i wish we got more scenes with her mom and her bonding. But i didnt care at all when she died. And this was when i also realised i didnt even know anything of her chess "friends" because we also barely see them so i just stopped watching the serie because it became boring to me No. 132641
>>132636Eh, I know there's sexism in women being expected to dress a certain way and that an interest in clothes is stereotyped as girly, so I get your point. But buying lots of clothes as you get older and start earning money is a really normal thing to do, I don't think it needed any particular narrative justification or focus. It just felt like a relatable personality trait in an otherwise totally unrelatable character, I never questioned her reasoning because I did the same thing when I was younger and although you say it was glossed over, to me it was just showing rather than telling.
>Can you imagine a movie about a chess grand-master focusing on the male protagonist trying on different suits and how trendy he is? I would love to see that. But honestly it's not really an outlandish idea, men really like suits and shows like Peaky Blinders and Mad Men are popular for the male fashion.

>>132603>stunning protagonist who seems to be attracted to every other male on the cast GOD KNOWS WHY and has sex on a daily basis uwuWhat? She was barely interested in sex. Did we watch the same show?
There was a reverse harem anime vibe having every male worship the ground she walked but she wasn't really that interested in them.
I think it's a little
problematic to criticize a woman - or a character - for the choice of being feminine. Is the only well written female character the one who is not feminine? Why?
Personally I saw her interest in fashion and consumerism in general as a sign of becoming her own person, after being denied that in the orphanage. As a kid she had that outfit (i dont remember if it was a dress or sweater?) that was unique to her and later she wanted to reclaim that. In my opinion if it was a story of a woman in a man's world who doesn't want to be feminine and then becomes succesful it would make for a far less interesting and valuable character arc, as she would be just another NLOG that had to be "just like the guys" to be a succesful chess player.

is twin peaks worth investment of time? I'm about to start episode 3 and am enjoying it so far but I also read there are a lot of plot points that go absolutely nowhere and that overall the show is overrated, how it is only as popular as it is since at the time there had never been a show quite like it.

>>132864Twin Peaks is my favourite show, I don’t think it’s overrated. If nothing else, I think it’s underrated in the sense that people don’t usually understand the “main point” of the series, since Lynch loves to be cryptic. There is a lot to unpack about it, and it may take hours and hours to discuss everything. I totally recommend it, watch it in order and enjoy it.
I like even the second part of season 2 which is kinda lame lol

Things go to hell quality-wise in the middle of the second season but David Lynch returns and wraps it up in one of the best tv finales ever IMO. Even the low point is kind of fun in a "how did this show turn into
this?" way.
Unfortunately The Return (the Showtime third season) often felt like pointless pandering to me but others like it a lot.

For the other Twin Peaks anons further up ITT, if you're still around,
how did you manage to make it through the movie and the "25 years later" reboot? I was really disappointed with and honestly disgusted by the tone shift. Suddenly there was so much nudity and needless sex. I know that the brothel is a major plot point of the original show, but even those uncomfortable scenes were 1000x more tolerable than 90% of Fire Walk With Me. Plus, I hated that in the first episode of season 3, all the female characters are either dead, naked, or both. I gave up on seasons 3 because of that. Does it get better? Is it worth it?

It is, after all, a story of Laura Palmer's unbearably shitty life with a rapist daddy Of course YMMV if the portrayal of that was tasteful enough or not.
In my opinion it's absolutely worth it to stick it with the 3rd season. I did love it almost from the start, so yeah… Wait with dropping the series at least until episode 7-8, or maybe even 10 (disclaimer: I don't remember what's in most of those episodes, I just think it should give you a better estimate of the series as a whole).
There will still be some sex scenes, but not that many. There's also quite a lot of interesting female characters. The old TP quirky humor also comes back I cannot promise that you will love it, but I think it's worth giving it a chance.

So I'm in the middle of watching Motherland:Fort Salem and its interesting but also kinda dumb and inconsistent
Its set in a world where America made a deal with the witches in the Salem with trials if they use their powers in the service of the United States, eventually it leads to semi-Matriarchal world where women basically hold every position of power and all soldiers are witches and all wars and battles are magic based, there are male witches as well, they don't appear most of the time and their stated to be weaker magically then female witches and their main purpose is to basically breed with the female witches so that the next generation can be born, also their played by hot guys which is another thing, for there's a lot of shirtless men from what I've seen in almost every episode and there's a lot of things that don't make any sense as well and never really addressed, like the world they've created is interesting but they don't seem to have intentions of expanding beyond America and no where else

For less historically accurate but very funny dark humor, absurdism and modern feminism, The Great. For sort of accurate, sort of not for the sake of melodrama, I liked The White Queen, Deadwood and Versailles. Furthermore another thing that bothers me is that its weird to make it notable that she's "half Shu" or whatever when appearance-wise from a Russian perspective that would describe a lot of people living. It wouldn't be too notable. Whatever they're setting up doesn't seem well thought out for a Russian analog society. it really reflects the American concept of "racial categories" that doesn't actually map onto the real world in history at all very well.

The author really likes using lots of fantasy words that she based of languages from the countries the story is based on. The books do include a map and "dictionary" to make it easier for you. Since six of crows is in the same universe of the grisha but some years later they sometimes mention events from the grisha.
I haven't read the original English version so it might be different, but i read six of crows some years after the grisha but i did not have to use the dictionary that much to help me out. Most made up words she uses are of countries or occupation she mentioned in her previous book so you might have to use it then but most of it you can understand because they resemble irl words.

The characters seemed, sorry to say it but "trashy" and like they were just further throwing themselves into this pit of self harm through sex, drugs and whatever else. But as the show went on I realized that was the point, that they (especially Arabella, the lead) were trying to cope in all the wrong ways. Eventually she goes to the other end of the spectrum and gets overly self righteous to the point of villifying/alienating her friends and adopting some of the same boundary-crushing behaviors of an abuser without realizing it. The show is about the haziness of consent, coming to terms with abusers' humanity (not necessarily forgiving them, just recognizing that people usually aren't all good or bad), and determining how to best move forward. The ending in particular was very surreal and throws several different "resolutions" at you. The characters do eventually become healthier people. It was personally affecting for me, far more than I realized it would be at the start.

The friend she went with seems to be lying about how things ended and she starts to piece it together while attempting to sort out her finances, career and mental health. Her friends also have their own struggles, including a gay man initially focused on cheap hook ups (his family is Ghanaian and very traditional), her best friend who's a struggling actress and jealous of Arabella's success, and a former white schoolmate who leads a sexual assault survivor group but used to be a "problem child" when they were little.

I’m in the final episode of Invincible and Omni-man’s final rant is so fucking funny. I started laughing my ass off when he nearly killed Mark and couldn’t cope, so he started sperging about “human weak” until he was virtually frothing at the mouth. He’s a narc, right? That’s the only way to describe that type of parenting. You describe your wife as a “pet” and then victimblame your child when you beat them. It’s gotta be some sort of personality disorder aside from the brainwashing?! KEK he’s insane. This is easily my favorite episode. I’m glad Mark and his girlfriend broke up. His friend and her seemed like such shallow parts of the show. Atom Eve too. Maybe it was due to the pacing or the limited time they had to work with? I hope his dad comes back, it’d be fucking funny. They made Mark’s final fight moments amazing though. Then they made him a retard who spills all his beans to a fucking alien! Earth is definitely fucked. Are the blue clone guys faggots? They seem like it. Cecil is an asshole. Atom Eve is the best character. I might read the comics, the show was fun. The blood splatter and gore looked retarded but it’s nice to see supe media not pull punches when it comes to violence, especially compared to Disney.

Anyone else watch Hacks? I started it because I'm loving the Jean Smart renaissance HBO is giving me and ended up falling totally in love with it. She plays Deborah Vance, a Joan Rivers type comedian getting edged out of her crazy long Vegas residency, who's forced to work with Ava, a zoomer comedy writer canceled for a bad tweet. I really specifically love how much of it is about Ava wrestling with Deborah's history–she sees her as the qvc muumuu lady people's aunts love who got famous for calling other women fat. So much of the show ends up being about Ava realizing that Deborah had to make really complicated choices, and Deborah realizing that Ava isn't just a hypersensitive baby. They're never reduced to just like, shrill snowflake girl or normie cringey mom comedian–the show is so aware that that's how they'd be portrayed anywhere else, and it criticizes that so well.

Has anyone watched Alrawabi school for girls yet? It is insane and very good and I need to talk to someone about it. It's about the bullying between popular mean girls and the less popular, "weird" girls but it unfolds deeper into comments about how patriarchal structures work to tear women down, and how they are then pit against each other. i don't think a 16 year old deserves to die in an honour killing because she was a cunt to another classmate but I am absolutely chilled by the ending, and what it meant for Mariam, as she knew what was coming to Layan. She knew the implications of her actions, and yet she chose to go through with them. I don't think it's a matter of whether these characters are morally good or bad, rather that society in large gives way for this sort of behaviour to thrive.

I don't think we're being asked as an audience to forgive Layan, we're being asked to contemplate the small seeds of patriarchy that are sown and grow to things as brutal as sexual assault and honour killings. Without those structures in place maybe these things wouldn't happen.

i’m currently watching the third season of sex education and is anyone else here kinda annoyed with this non binary character? im only halfway through the season but i’m mad because she had so much potential as a masculine girl. what’s especially annoying is with the plot line about all the students being forced to wear a uniform and the head mistress not letting her wear a more baggy fit and trying to get her to wear a skirt or a tight fitting male uniform it would have been a perfectly fine storyline for her to be a masc girl who just doesn’t feel comfortable wearing tight fitting clothes or skirts. but instead the whole thing seems to be getting treated like because she is non binary this uniform rule is oppressing her specifically for being non binary and not addressing the wider issue of the fact that i’m sure plenty of girls are comfortable being girls but just don’t like wearing revealing and tight fitting uniforms.
also i feel like her being nb and using they them pronouns really messes with her characterisation. she’s supposed to be a laid back skater girl but caring about pronouns just makes her seem uptight and annoying, completely the opposite of what her character is supposed to be.

I’m just going to make a long rambling post about Squid Game
I discovered this show because I was playing Roblox and the discovery page had Red Light Green Light. I clicked on the game and discovered after playing it that it’s based on the show Squid Game. So I sat and watched through the whole show in 2 days ( 9 hours). In Korean doomer fashion people die because of society and whateverit’s a show about “human kindness and enjoyment of life”. Of course we start off with the main character we’re supposed to like because he’s the main guy, when he’s a useless deadbeat dad and a drain on everyone around him finances. As we watched the game, I knew when after watching 200 people get shot by machine guns, the old man had a big smile on his face and continued to play Red Light Green Light whiles the other survivors were frozen in fear that he was my favorite character. I agree with what other anons here posted I didn’t really care about the characters or their plights, or if they live or die. Anyway I’ll admit I had a soft spot for 212 Han Mi-nyeo even though she was a jerk and unhinged. I’m also convinced she was a shoutout to Azealia Banks because AB had that big song called 212, and no I’m not an AB anon. I guess she “redeemed” herself by killing Deok-su and herself “stick together to the end” Sang-woo was a true business major joke in this show, even if his beliefs were right in the games. They had an idiot Pakistani immigrant who shouldn’t have let Gi-hun or Sang-woo trick him. They threw in some diversity by having a man who tries to hit on the male servants. 067 Sae-byeok was okay since she was trying to get her family members, but still I didn’t care about any of these characters. even the ending didn’t ruin the old man for me because I didn’t care about the characters I only shed a tear when Ali and Ji-yeong died probably because they were crying There are some cold and terrible women out there but only a male could say I only feel alive when watching people die, playing “mind games” and being a warrior in some games I still understand what they were trying to reach with human kindness being the only answer. I liked the pretty colors in the maze room. The naked painted people were nice to look at. The gold masks of the VIPs were elegant. Some of the dubbing was interesting such as Sae-byeok but most of it and the subtitles were fine for me. I don’t mind senseless violence but even the nighttime bed riot was so long and boring, and I couldn’t wait for the end It raises questions I wouldn’t mind answered. How does one become Front Man, What is so important about the games that even In-ho as Front Man would kill his own brother It was tolerable because I could watch it all at once, I’m easily impressed and I’d watch it again. If they make a season 2 it will probably suck but I just may watch it
End rambling

>>162157>>162054Finished it last night and damn that was disturbing
It's hard for me to take "vampires" seriously and I would've liked to have a clearer background. What was that creature? They say it's an angel but aren't angels supposed to be nice? Was it the devil as he's a fallen angel? Why now, why there? Just a coinkidinky? I feel like I would've liked it to be deeper, to have a deeper connection instead of "father Pruitt just happened to get lost in the desert and found an angel on a cave". That's the only negative thing to me, it's way too random but maybe I didn't pay enough attention and there's a backgrund I'm missing. Other than that, I liked everything else. The angel looked amazing, it reminds me of the tall floating creature in Hill House (which was my fav one). The acting was great, especially Bev's. She just stole the show for me, I think that actress had a very supporting role in Hill House (wasn't she the wife of the oldest son?) so it was amazing to see her here. And finally, loved the depth of all characters and their relationship.
Any favorite scenes or moments? One that I really liked it's when Bev is shitting on the revived guy that killed his wife and sons, because he never went to church and asks Sturge why he revived him, as in "he isn't worth it" and Sturge is like "He always treated me well". It was a clever take on the contraposition between being an actual good person and being a very religious one No. 162443
>>162050i just finished watching this, thank u for the rec. it broke my heart into pieces and i cried like a baby for at least 4 episodes straight. i loved the slow burn and how the show introduced every character and made the viewers feel for them. i rarely watch horrors because jumpscares are dumb but this one, ahh it was so good. i will watch flanagan's other works for sure
>>162294it made sense to me,
a demented hyper-religious priest meets a monster at the verge of death that brings him back to life, of course he is going to think it's an angel. just remember how they quoted the bible to describe angels as frightening etc justifying its appearance. i just wonder how no one uttered the word vampire, i mean at least one person must have been a nerd on that island and put 2 and 2 togetheri think the background they gave was also enough, it was trapped in the middle of the desert in a cave and couldn't come out as it was starving and because of the sun so he kept the priest alive to use him to save itself No. 162595
>>162050I loved it. The 6th episode was insane
I knew in the back of my mind that they were cutting the power, getting rid of the boats etc to get everyone to go to the church and convert them to vampirism but the scene itself was so chaotic it really made you feel the stress of the situation. It made everything happening feel so unexpected and crazy. I think Flanagan does this very interesting thing where instead of subverting your expectations, he leans into exactly what your worst expectations could possibly be. It's even more shocking imo and makes his version of horror very human, even when you have elements of the supernatural.>>162294I thought of two possibilities,
vampires don't exist in pop culture in this universe kind of like zombies in the walking dead or
everyone is so shocked and in disbelief that they can't possibly believe it could be true, and those who are religious (so basically everyone aside from the doctor) are so blinded by their belief that they don't consider it.
as for the priest either he was deluded from his dementia or blinded by religion or both Tbh kinda wish people would stop comparing the three shows and hating on MM because of HH, it's not supposed to be a successor. I think the concept for MM existed long before eating of the Haunting Of shows. I blame AHS honestly.

Gets mad at people for trying to support her and is granted opportunities left and right for her brainz which she needes a whole story arch to accept because of her own pride.
I also find it creepy in general how obsessed people are about making shows where teenagers party and have tons of sex. The last season opened with a compilation of sexy "teen" butts, boobs and orgasm faces. I don't care if the actors are adults, you're still portraying teenagers in a pornified manner.

>>162695First episode is definitely not a great representation of the series, I'd say watch another ep at least. I definitely enjoyed it more and more as I went on and the second season is better than the first, the humour started clicking with me better.
Obligatory reminder for Succession fans of this iconic video.

Has anyone been watching Only Murders in the Building?
It's really enjoyable and nice cinematography. I know Celebri-cows hates Selena Gomez but I like her in it.
The lastest episode was from the perspective of a deaf person. Which its neat when media actually portrays something different.

It sucks.
Half the story is about blacks and it even has an interracial cuckold scene in it.

>>162745I went into this film
really wanting to enjoy it as I adore the show. I set my expectations low though, I knew it wouldn't be fantastic but I thought that maybe it might be an ok gangster film and answer some questions left open in The Sopranos… and it did none of that. It was a shitty film and it opened up more questions than it answered.
Was Uncle Sal a hallucination? Was the baseball team story true? Who was Christopher's mother if Dickie said Joanne couldn't get pregnant? Does Tony find out that Junior ordered Dicke's hit? Did Barry Haydu really pull the trigger? How fucking old is Silvio? The story with the blacks felt rushed and underdeveloped. As a series it could've got some detail and maybe been ok. Like you learn nothing new about the old guys from the series, apart from that Silvio wears a wig; big fucking whoop. Speaking of which, the actor for Silvio was like an SNL send-up of The Sopranos. Paulie was completely forgetful as a character. Junior's actor had his moments but mostly sucked. Jon Bernthal is a good actor but felt wrongly cast and poorly directed as Johnny Soprano. I will say that Michael Gandolfini was good, for a not-so-experienced actor with big shoes to fill, I thought he did a good job. Livia's actor was by far my favourite though, she really nailed the mannerisms and the voice. She's the one positive take away I have from the film, really. I think the film could've benefitted from more focus on Tony's home life and relationship with his parents. It would've been good to get more scenes with Dickie, Johnny and Junior to build the tension too. Honestly this film was more like a fan-made project that should've been uploaded to YouTube for free. I have a feeling they'll be more films/maybe a series though. HBO know The Sopranos brand is a cash cow and I felt like the ending was kinda angling for more content to follow. I believe the great poet Anthony Soprano Junior summarised this film best with this immortal line:

any aussie anons here watch rage? this show makes me nostalgic, melancholy and comfy all at the same time. i think the fact that they haven’t changed the format or intro/outro song since the 80s really helps contribute to that feeling
it’s a great show for wasting time and procrastinating bed time

>>162781>>163099Happy to see other anons watching the show! I just started it and it's really good so far! Poor Alex just can't catch a break. I haven't finished it yet, but I'm really excited to see how things turn out.
>>162781>Paula, the protagonists mother, is making me rage so much. She's such a fucking garbage person pick me, I despise women that depend only on male validation, above their childrens, so fucking much. The actress playing her is great though.Whenever she's on screen I get the biggest urge to smash my head through the wall, but just means the actress did her job really well, lol.

>>164679>I also felt like the antagonist principal lady wasn't even that bad?How dare you
nonny, antagonist lady was a mean
terf who told gender special ppl to wear girl uniforms!1!
I agree with everything you said, this third season was the weakest. Britbongs are usually really good with coming-of-age teen drama tv shows, but this season felt incredibly American and performative.
The characters that I loved this season were Ruby bc obvious based stacy material, Adam and Aimee because they're basically the human embodiment of puppies and Vivienne, that's it. Even Lily/teen Grimes who I liked in the previous seasons kinda let me down. I absolutely loathed the non-binary obnoxious girl, wheelies-crippled was annoying and Maeve and Ottis were irritating
