Style Savvy / Style Boutique / Girls Mode is a fashion simulation game series by Japanese developer syn Sophia, released on the Nintendo DS / 3DS from 2008 - 2017. Fashion Dreamer, also developed by syn Sophia, was then released on the Nintendo Switch in 2023, intended as a spiritual successor to the Style Savvy series.

This thread is for discussing topics related to these games, but discussion of similar games, such as the Nicola Kanshuu / Model Debut series, is also welcome!

Noticed that there wasn't a thread on here, and the subreddit is being taken over by troons (also noticed by another farmer), so thought I would make one.
I started playing Girls Fashion Shoot yesterday, I recommend it to those who have already played all of the Style Savvy games and want something else. My impression so far is that it has less content, but it's still fun and very similar. I'm also considering trying out Model Debut 3 as I've heard that it's closer to Style Savvy than Fashion Dreamer is, but the clothes look very basic from what I've seen. Has anyone else here played it?

I miss Style Savvy. I was so beyond excited when they announced Fashion Dreamer and it was a complete letdown in comparison. I waited years and years for something to come on the Switch and I unfortunately haven’t picked up the game again since it came out. Played for a couple of weeks and was utterly bored with the lack of content. I know they’re releasing new things, but the game just sucks imo.

What a coincidence, I played hours straight yesterday. I love girls mode 4/styling star so much, I tried Fashion Dreamer and it felt like a step back and unfinished, the bangs weren't even separate to your hairstyle, something was missing and the price was too high for what it was, atleast you could change language to JP from the main menu.

Aww I remember these games! Farmers introduced it to me actually right before the 3DS game was released. I love all the style options it had and I remember taking pictures of my character and my online friend's character together. Simpler times. I'd love to see screenshots of any outfits you guys create.

I'm ngl I don't think there's much interest in these types of games anymore not even for girls…sad that troons have discovered it. I think people need more stimulation nowadays. Just look at what happened to Animal Crossing over the years.

Model Debut 3 is being released in English and French! Hopefully it'll be better than Fashion Dreamer? If anyone else is getting it, I'd like to hear how it is! https://www.gematsu.com/2024/10/model-debut3-nicola-coming-west-on-october-17

I'm interested in this game but the fact that it has a moid dating mechanic is putting me off, and it looks like theres unlockables put behind it. Does anyone know if it can be completely avoided?

Just saw picrel, unfortunate. I was worried that the clothes seemed very bland and uninspired. I will be emulating it so I'll try it out anyway, but still disappointing.

I loved Girls’ Fashion Shoot on 3DS and I’ve always wanted them to localise the switch games too. I’ll definitely buy it next paycheque.

Here’s the English trailer for the game. As an aside, I’ve noticed recently that fashion games have had a surge in popularity online, especially for the Style Boutique games, likely due to the women who played them when they were girls experiencing nostalgia for them. It makes me wonder if fashion games (on console/pc not mobile) will be the new trend in video game releases. Perhaps someone will even step up and release a spiritual successor to the Style Boutique games that is actually good.

Why is it that both this and Fashion Dreamer are so barebones when it comes to styles, clothes and accessories?
New Style Boutique 2 still mogs everything made after it. It was so colorful and the characters actually looked cute.

Because everything has become soulless and commercialised, the strategy of most game companies nowadays is to put in the least effort they can for the most financial gain. Not only that, but the target age demographic of the games has shifted from children to young adults, which would also mean a big decrease in creative and colourful clothing. J-fashion is nothing like what it used to be either, even in Japan.

I hate how basic the clothing is. I liked how Style Boutique had different styles from girly and classy to punk and decora. Fashion is dead

So, has anyone here started playing Model Debut yet? What are your thoughts?
