Pic related, I adore this entire look. I like stockings, heels, boots, sneakers, dresses, pants, pretty much anything. I used to feel like I could only be confined to one thing but I grew up a bit and realized that I could look good in any style. I hope it doesn't come off as snobby because that isn't my intent. I felt, for lack of a better term, liberated by not having to stick with one style all of the time.
At the same time, I'm also very into the 80s hi-cuts as they suit my build more than hipster or skinny jeans, boyshort panties, etc. I miss when bikinis were cut like that and I've been so happy to see that they're coming back in style because I was getting to the point where I debated asking mom if she still had her from back in the day.

Any fashion savvy anon knows what this style is called?
I really like berets, high socks, oxford shoes, checked clothes, oversized wooly sweaters, shirts and high-waisted skirts (without going full schoolgirl/delicate lady mode, I often dress androgynous as well) but I have no idea what that style is called. I would like to know so I can find people who like it as well on insta. In the pic the shirt and accessories are over the top compared to what I mean but I couldn't find anything else.

I'm looking for things that are interesting, architectural, monochromatic.
Brands like Noctex, Nuit Atelier, older Allsaints stuff. Basically gothninja/ strega.
Looking for Korean brands in particular, I found this one called Ultra Modern on Yesstyle but no more so far.

>>73688I had a friend who was a similar build and she looked absolutely kickass when she would wear sundresses like pic related that flattered her bust and small waist. With a cardigan and usually flats and she had a textured bob haircut that was great with that body shape too. A lot of retro or pinup styles look great with your shape too, it doesn't have to be generic rockabilly Imelda May tryhard trash but subtle pinup silhouettes are great for flattering that figure.
>>73678Yeah I had this too and honestly it never changed until I moved to a bigger city rather than a small town. If the majority in the town or wherever you live dress very bland and generally frown upon alternative styles then I think there's sadly no hope as you'll always be the odd one out and you're up against generations of this being the norm. In a bigger city people usually may not always think your style is for them but will either not notice, not care, or admire it even though it isn't to their taste, they appreciate that it's different to see.

Depending on your torso to leg ratio you could also do very well with black tights and a skirt (any really) paired with all-black shoes, or from tucking a blouse into high waisted jeans.
No matter what shape you’re made in there’s something out there that looks excellent on you and feels good. If it’s not too expensive you could even consider getting your clothes in a larger size and having them tailored to fit so that nothing sits awkwardly between wide shoulders and a narrow torso.

what kind of casual styles/brands/cuts works well for smaller waists but fat arms and legs? i would love to just throw on a pair of jeans and a t shirt but i look like a fatass because my waist is the smallest part of me and if it isnt highlighted, i look like a blob. i cant wear tight dresses or belted dress all of the time, nor do i want to
i cant even find many shirts that hug the midsection, as everything is like, straight cut or loose bc skinny girls that have skinny limbs look great in that shit, but no matter how thin i get, my arms and legs still look disproportionate. i know a lot of JUST pear women can look great, but my arms are kinda chubby, so casual stuff is a nightmare

I’m going to shill for a brand I like that I found through amazon, oddly enough! They’re called Mordenmiss, and they seem like they’re trying to fill a gap for bigger girls, too, which some might find useful so I thought I’d give them a shoutout.
I’m 5’6” and about 124lbs, and I love both strega and mori, this company has a lot of pieces that can work really well with strega in particular as I’ve not had much luck with thrifting. I generally get their one size fits all or if they have a size, a large so that I can layer well. They only thing I wish they’d make are those wife beater petticoats you see on aliexpress, but they’re also surprisingly receptive to user feedback so who knows? If we flood them with pictures maybe they’ll start making their own.

Does anyone know where to find a skirt like this? It looks comfy and I like to wear skirts but the trendiest ones right now are tight ones or too long on me. I don't feel like wearing tight ones all the time, especially casually.
I found this:

I'm obsessed with 1940s British fashion. A time of war and rations, women had to be inventive and simple in order to express themselves. They were a generation of working women who had to go to factories or work in the fields. Yet, they still managed to make their functional dresses feminine and attractive. I love the construction and the patterns, there's a mix of urban and country.
But I feel like the era has been co-opted by "plus size" American women and now the style is seen as matronly or frumpy. I cry.

That women were still adapting and expressing themselves, despite the rations and restrictions. Pockets and bows were banned because they were considered unnecessary
>“Imports were limited and raw materials and manufacturing capacity were needed for the war effort. As the war went on people became very creative.”
>Indeed, armed with handy tips such as how to unpick old jumpers, create decorative patches for concealing holes in worn-out garments and protect against the menace of moths, we became a nation of tailors. I think it makes me proud of my country and what we have gone through.
>“It is often assumed that it was drab time but people used bright colours and patterns, partly as a way of putting on a brave face and cheering yourself up during wartime,” adds Amanda. I love color and wear bright clothes often, including dresses. I usually stick to the more wrap-around 70s style but I'd love to add in some more structured, militaristic pieces.
>Another impact of rationing was to improve the quality of British-made clothes, which had to last, and make production more efficient. Some more pieces here

Can you guys give me some advice about putting outfits together and improving my shopping habits in general? I have a really hard time coordinating my clothes, but I'm also kind of addicted to thrift shopping.
I have a closet full of unique vintage pieces, but I seldom wear them. This is because I have a bad habit of snagging cheap but cool pieces without considering what I'm going to pair them with. In addition, there's a lot of different aesthetics and eras catching my eye that I want to tap into. But I feel like the styles I'm into have no consistency, therefore there's no solid "look" I'm going for… Lastly, I'm kinda lazy, and usually when I leave the house I just end up wearing really comfy, normcore tier shit.
The plus side is I'm not spending myself into ruins. I only go to thrift stores when I know I have enough to treat myself, and everything else I own is cheap department store stuff, a lot of it which I've owned for years. I just feel like a fucking mess with a diverse closet and nothing to do with it.
Any suggestions of what I should do? Even if that means ending thrifting altogether and selling my clothes? (also let me know if this post is more appropriate or the advice thread)

>>89176I would recommend choosing a cohesive color palette and getting solids that work with various vintage finds across eras. Pick colors that you like wearing, sell off the cool things you have that don’t fit your palette, and then use that money for staple pieces etc.
I wear a lot of vintage styles, and my wardrobe is primarily comprised of black, grey, wine, pink and white. Having a lot of neutrals makes it easier to start bringing in other colors when I want to, though, so I have some green and blue in my wardrobe too. I look like shit in yellow and orange so I don’t have any in my closet.

How to woman?
When I was a cringy teenager I'd mostly wear 'alternative' fashion styles like Goth or Lolita. I was alright with coordinating, but not exactly with choosing anything that actually suits me.
After I had a fitness phase and was okay with just walking around in sportsgear 24/7 I now realize that I have no idea how to dress myself and I feel like I am shooting myself in the foot. My boyfriend said he wants to be able to show me off like a Ferrari, but I don't know how to dress for my bodytype. I have very broad shoulders, ribcage and hips, small boobs, relatively long legs. My best feature is probably my ass+legs. I'd currently describe myself chubby muscular (off-season), but a few months out of the year I have a 4-pack.
What kind of style would suit me? What clothing items would suit my body? Other than that I am cookie cutter long blonde green eyed whitie, not a striking beauty so I can't get away with too far out there stuff.

Also you can't build a super jacked man, no matter what, he'll always have skinny woman legs

My most worn pieces are black, white, and blue, and I have some neutral tones as well. But many of my thrifted items are a weird mix of pastels and earth tones and various patterns haha…
Anyways, I'm about to do some deep cleaning before the summer ends, so I'll definitely go through my closet and sort out what I won't actually wear. And in the future when I shop I'll focus on getting practical pieces that match with a lot of things, like you suggested. Thanks again anon, you're a life saver!

The hem line will make it impossible to sit or bend without showing your ass cheeks, and the crotch depth on playsuits ensures that it will also jam itself into your crotch when sitting or bending, unless it’s made of a stretchy fabric. i always thought the fruit method was too vague. you can be an hourglass and 6' with a long torso and square violin hips or you can be an hourglass who's 5'2 with round hips and a short torso. you're telling me those people are going to look good and bad in the same things? so i like that this method takes lots of factors into account besides just your shoulder/waist/hip ratio.
i took her test and i'm a theatrical romantic and it checks out because the clothes and styling she recommended are the ones i've gravitated to over the years.

So, I feel like I have a lot of neat/cute clothing pieces, but I have no idea how to put them together
or i get overwhelmed/nervous to “dress up” and I always end up wearing my goofy ass ripped jeans and over sized hoodie— which i think is comfy and cute sometimes!! But i am tired of lookin the same every time I put on clothes lol idk
Does anyone have any tips on how to pair clothing/find a style ??

I have a hunch that such anons are probably overweight, aged-looking or dumpy themselves, ie they flat-out can't pull off certain things and need to "dress for their age/body" at all times. They either seem to assume all of us must be the same way, and want to "help" by dissuading anons from wearing clothing that'd be unflattering on themselves, or they just get irritated whenever they're reminded that there are others who actually can pull off things they can't, so they go on attack mode.

Does anyone have any recommendations for dresses/skirts that would look nice and feminine without heels? I don’t want to damage my feet just for the sake of looking cute, and I also consider comfort to be the most important aspect of my clothing. So far I’ve found that tshirt or bodycon dresses work really with sneakers, but I would love to hear more suggestions for cuts that would look nice with non heeled shoes that aren’t necessarily flats as they can be difficult to walk long distances in.

My biggest problem with finding clothes is that I'm extremely picky when it comes to comfort:
>I always feel cold, but find nearly all pullovers to be too scratchy
>I have a very sensitive neck, to the point of feeling like I'm choking when something touches it lighty, so no turtle necks, scarves, etc - but on the other hand I also don't want to show cleavage
>everything remotely tight on my waist like skirts or skinny jeans triggers my ibs
>leggings or yoga pants always feel too tight and make my skin itch
>I probably own over 30 pair of shoes yet have only one that doesn't give me blisters
>can't even put my hair into a ponytail because even that gives me a headache
I wish I could just wear a loose tshirt, trackpants and my favourite sneakers all year long… What should I do? I buy things but then end up only wearing them only once because I can't stand the feel of them. If something is itchy or tight it literally ruins my while day.
Pic related would unironically be my ideal…

i don’t know how small your budget is or how much you usually spend on clothes, but the real deal is always better than the knockoffs and it’s usually a better investment in the long run to own a few items of high quality than to spend money over and over again on less expensive ones that won’t last nearly as long.

Could any of you anons give me some advice on more tomboy-ish fashion? Recently I've been more inspired to cultivate my personal style (aka dress how I really want), but I have trouble doing so because the only 'fashion' influences I can think of are male. I really like somewhat edgy, but casual alternative styles like how Kurt Cobain or teenagers in 90s alternative/metal scenes dressed, but I don't know how well those styles would translate on a female frame, especially because I'm on the taller side. I know most anons on this board tend to like more feminine styles, but I'm wondering if anyone has experience in translating male fashion inspiration into something a girl could wear without looking frumpy. Or am I just doomed and should start trying to find more feminine fashion inspo instead?

It just seems kind of contradictory and pathetic that you say you want to dress how you like in an incredible casual style, using a picture of the literal human embodiment of "I do what I want, whatever people think", but you need strangers on the internet to order you about and give you formal rules
If you're scared of being frumpy then just do what you do in any type of fashion and just be mindful of the things that make you frumpy aka if you need a defined waist then only buy fitted girls tops

These edgy looks aren't very common in the magazine, it was just this one section. However larme looks often have edgy elements like leather skirts, chokers, lingerie like clothes etc. so it's kind of a mix of sugar and poison. Lol sorry that was kinda spergy wasn't it?

I’m irritated because I live in Paris now and the fashion here is starting to influence my own fashion choices and overall style. I came basically dressed like a casual goth or alt girl with bright green hair and now I have jet black hair and dress like a casual chic clone that wears various shades of black and grey. I use to hate the oversized coats and scarf combos I’d see constantly, but seeing it so often now I want to incorporate it into my wardrobe. The true irritation I think lies within myself, that I dress as a reflection of what’s around me/the groups I’m in instead of just for myself, and my idea of fashion was always to use it as an expression of who I am as a person to reflect that to the world around me. Anyone else struggle with their fashion identity, or maybe you don’t have this issue, and what do you think influenced you personally/culturally to feel this way?

Where the hell can I find more casual, simple dresses in the cut like pic related? I mean, every site I go to is littered with some goofy ass bottom hem, asymmetrical something, or has weird, unflattering sleeves. It's even hard to find a simple kimono sleeve that doesn't look completely ugly or has any of the above listed added to it. I need some site/shop recommendations. I'm in dire need of dresses for the upcoming spring and summer.
To make things harder, petites ONLY please!

>>106068>>106069>>106071>>106075I appreciate the enthusiasm! It’s interesting trying to find myself (fashion wise) in a foreign country, but these give me a lot of inspiration and ideas to incorporate into my wardrobe. I’ve always been a creepy/girly type of girl, so this might be something to delve into. It’s honestly kinda nice to shop in France, the clothing quality is heaps better than what I’m use to in burger land.

>the clothing quality is heaps better than what I’m use to in burger land.Ugh so jealous. I walked into Kohl's to make an Amazon return and I was actually pissed at how absolutely shitty eveything was. Not that Kohl's is the bastion of quality but it's so gross. Anything decent costs hundreds and even then it might be cheap bullshit. I feel like more and more is taken away quality-wise every year from products and fashion in general and it makes me so mad.

>>106103My main criteria is above anything, you can never go wrong with a lbd. Depending on the type of occasion you can get something sleeveless, high collar, lower cut, short length, past the knees, it’s personal preference really. If it’s a truly elegant dinner I’d suggest nothing above the knee, it might be better to go floor length to be on the safe side but if you have nice legs calf length (mid length/midi online) can look okay. I’d suggest something with a higher neckline depending on the dress, lower cut v’s can turn into casual very quickly. Strappy heels with manicured toes are always trendy, but you can always do a closed pump if you don’t feel like showing off your feet. But you should MOST DEFINITELY wear heels. Minimal jewelry, try to keep any necklaces, bracelets, rings etc on the dainty delicate side, preferably one of each if you feel you must have some sort of jewelry on. Earrings should match the aesthetic your other jewelry is given, ala if your ring is emerald use small emerald earrings, if you wear pearls

>>106105 I would avoid largely synthetic fabrics (polyester, acrylic etc) with the exception of viscose if you're not sure about a brand/store's quality as they're usually poorer in appearance. They are ok in smaller percentages:
80% 30% acrylic.
However, they're not always shit but it's depends on the production of the fibres (usually more expensive for synthetic fibres not to be shitty) - natural fibres tend to be of a better quality regardless of price-point. I trust cotton, wool, linen even in random sites they're going to look better. Most things will be cotton though.
It's pretty difficult to sus production quality without having the item irl but for me the most important is the fabric.
You might want to observe:
- thickness and opacity (thin cotton fabric is not great either)
- observe in the modelling pictures by zooming if the seams and stitching is neat and straight (crappier mass produced items is sometimes obviously sloppy here)
Also for mid-tier-ish brand for some Scream Queens-esque clothes Valfre quality from what I've gotten has been good.

I've been trying to experiment more with my wardrobe and try flowier and girlier silhouettes since I normally just wear pants and tshirts/sweaters and it's getting kinda boring. I'm a student and most days I just go to class and am doing things around campus. Is it considered overdressed or trying too hard to wear casual dresses and skirts? I know that's kind of a dumb question but I rarely see students at my school wear something other than jeans/leggings unless it's for an interview.
For example something like pic related, but the dress I have has a bit more definition/cinching around the waist (and I would wear dark long sleeves under it, and boots and tights since it's winter here).

If you like the combinations of items in an outfit then look for a similar cut of item but any color. Do you get what I mean? I'm trying to find a dress to wear to a wedding and fucking everything is either
- light pastels that are barely not white
- nude
- "millennial pink" (not a fan of this color, esp not on me)
Navy would be great, but guess what the bridesmaids are wearing?
On another note, if I ever get married, I won't give a shit what anyone else wears. Honestly. After reading all these rules about what women should and shouldn't wear to a wedding, I've devised a list of colors that are apparently OK:
- burgundy (not red omg can't upstage the bride!!)
- orange (but who wears orange)
- yellow (only bright yellow! or mustard! have fun looking like death warmed over)
- green (haha olive skin? go to hell)
- blue (not pastel blue, omg too light!!)
- purple
- pink (not too light!! photograph it first!)
No metallics, no light pastels, nothing too lacy (omg it's not your wedding), nothing too shiny, nothing too glittery or sexy. No all black, it's not a funeral, anon!

i've really fallen for a certain kind of vintage fashion. unfortunately, i'm short and quite pear shaped so i'm losing weight before i actually attempt anything like pic related.
does anyone have advice on where to get this type of trousers? in the uk if that makes a difference. i'm mostly into 40s & before and american styles more than british so actual pieces in good condition are hard to come by.
i've been living in leggings for years and before that i had terrible cutesy fashion sense so i basically don't know what the fuck i'm doing. i hate all the 'retro fashion' shops though because they're either horrible looking 50s reproductions for obese women or 60s onwards. i like the kind of masculine edge to a lot of bacall's outfits. (though not all are good.)
i have no desires to look costume-y, but i love these kind of silhouttes

>>110669honestly vintage fashion is kind to bigger sizes, its not like all women back then were tall and thin. keep in mind that shapewear was a thing for a majority of all vintage looks prior to the 70s, so nearly every woman has some kind of girdle and bra to give themselves a specific shape.
do your research, look beyond just what the actresses and models of the time were wearing, maybe look into some books on vintage fashion.

Some higher end lingerie brands make good shape wear if you like lace and trim. Sometimes I look at brands like Agent Provacateur and find dupes or wait for sales as I like how sensual some of their corsets and waspies are.
Unfortunately anything you buy that won’t ripple, pinch, or pucker can be expensive. Gift cards are your friend.

Most genuine vintage garments are smaller, and there really weren’t many plus size ladies getting around in the world war rationing era. Regular larger sizes like an Australian 14 you may get but anything bigger will be hard to source. A 100kg woman would be shit outta luck for most anything other than a man’s coat.
Vintage clothing isn’t nearly as forgiving as modern interpretations of forties/fifties dresses. less or no stretch,

I need your help with a pretty complex problem of mine.
Let's start with generalities, I am 25 years old, I kind of look younger, often people mistake me by a sophomore. I am 1.70, with ~70kg but still a nice body, wide hips and small waist. Overall I like my shape and would like to valorize it, but don't know how to do. When I dress "my age" I feel it ages me by a lot, I feel uncomfortable in feminine clothes with pastel or bright colours and I absolutely hate floral patterns and frills on me (kind of envy those who suit them well, though).
i like a lot the punkish-I don't know how to call the still in attached picture- style and hoboish stuff and I now it both fits my personality and I can look good and youthful in them.
Now that it is spring time again, I need to change my wardrobe and plan to give away a lot of stuff I no longer feel comfortable in or simply are worn out.
Thing is, I no longer know where to look to buy stuff I like, what to look for and I don't know where to find a list of items "to absolutely keep". I know which colours I like and fits me (which are black, white for exceptional summer wear, darker shades of green -such as emerald-, red and dark blues)
Another big, big, issue I always had was with trousers; I have big hips (which I came to hate because of stupid fashion made for slim girls) and an ass I really like, but jeans or trousers I own looks really awful on me, they add me way more weigh than I already do. Do you have any recommendation for which shapes, outftis or fabrics might suit my figure without looking like a pear? Do I have to commit only to long skirts? Which brands look at? Which tags should I look for when looking for inspiration or shopping?
Hope this is all and is clear enought for you to help me. I am truly desperate.

In my experience you can get better quality clothing at a department store, but vintage/charity shops where I live usually only have grandma clothes from the 70s in huge sizes and shitty H&M nobody wants though I have friends who have found good stuff by browsing every day.
Uniqlo is good quality. They have nice basics but some of their clothes look really mumsy because of what's trendy in Japan (midi corduroy skirts, long wide trousers, oversized clothing, socks with peeptoe sandals and other weird shite like that).
H&M can go from terrible to surprisingly decent, I have some quality clothing from there. Touch and try on everything, see the fabric content, never order anything online, their thicker stuff like winter coats is usually going to be crap but the thinner clothing for spring is good. Their sister stores & Other Stories and COS have higher quality items with less annoying embellishments but are pricier as well.
Mango is usually nice, Zara can be good for some stuff but is usually dog shit.
Esprit is usually quality but you need to try on everything because where I'm from that's where middle aged aunties shop and it shows.

I'm not sure she even considers fit or style when deciding on outfits because they look badly thought out, even on her instagram which also looks so soulless it's funny. Many of her outfits look indistinguishable, you can have a certain look and stick to it but Freddy's is just overall pretty boring. She just sees the colours beige, pink and white must have them.
Speaking of her personality I agree, she strikes me as the type to want to be seen as being quirky rich movie trope girl (by the interior of the rest of her house you can tell she was more likely lower-middle class until her YT fame). Also off-putting that she remarks on how poor/cheap/gross inexpensive clothes are when most her viewers are tween girls.
But that's just my honest (probably harsh) opinion. She is definitely pretty though and she does have some cute outfits. Overall her vibe is "boring" but I think because she over-does the same-y-ness of her looks.

I'm having a hard time not hating my body. I'm skinny but I have no waist. Think Britney Spears but like, if she never worked out (skinny fat). The only recommendations are to wear flare or bootcut jeans (which are kind of out of style and tbh not my style), to avoid anything at the waist, and no crewnecks. I'm able to find dresses as I love floral dresses but I need more casual clothes like jeans and shorts. Anything high waisted is unflattering because I have no waist. Anything super skinny at the ankle is unflattering because my legs are kind of like upside-down triangles in that my thighs hold quite a bit of weight but my calves are super skinny.

>>113824>>113826I agree it can look bad. I am somewhat busty and if I want to wear a loose t shirt like the pic you posted I will usually wear a super tight sports bra to flatten my tits out.
Also you could wear a flannel/jacket around your waist to define it. Or a cool belt like in pic related

Oversized looks cute on small people. If you’re busty or not thin, instant box-shape.

What kind of shorts/jeans should I buy if my waist is non-existent and I'm basically straight up and down? High-waisted shorts and skinny jeans just bring attention to my rectangular shape but other types of jeans (bootcut, flare) and lowrise shorts aren't very cute imo.
I think ankle jeans that aren't super skinny kind of help but I'm petite and already have short legs, so I don't want to bring attention to that either. NO idea on shorts though. Would appreciate suggestions on both please!!

is buying a replica purse as tacky as it seems? i've been really wanting a chanel wallet on chain but they cost about $3000. you could buy a gently used corolla for about that much.
i've been browsing r/repladies and it seems that replica purses are getting to be much higher quality these days for about a tenth of the price. i kind of want one. but i wish i could get a version of it without the logo because i'm scared someone's going to ask me if it's a real chanel purse and i don't want to lie about something like this lol.

I think it's tacky if you're constantly wearing all designer and ugly sequined gucci shit all the time but a simple chanel or hermes bag isn't necessarily tacky, especially if vintage. I have a a few bags from Chanel and worn with the right outfit they look cute. 80% of people who wear them are tacky new money who should be saving their money instead of racking up credit card bills, tho.
Coccinelle and Furla bags are ugly honestly.
No. 114142
>>114138You shouldn't be buying designer bags (or any non essential clothing item) unless the amount you're spending on them is negligible to you, and if you've recently come into money you absolutely shouldn't be spending money on handbags. Unless you know you have a very sizable nest egg you shouldn't be spending money on non essential luxuries.
Aside from new money, there are women out there who are saving for months for a bag and have 5 credit cards - how is that a smart financial move? There are absolutely newly rich instagram/youtube influencers are racking up monumental amounts of debt, or will eventually be forced to go into debt because they're incredibly short sighted and their "jobs" will inevitably fizzle out.
No. 114148
>>114143Pretty sure you're the one who can't comprehend it.
New money = someone who has recently acquired their money. Which is literally what I explained In the first paragraph before going off on an aside in the second.
Many people who have recently become rich have no idea what to do with their money because they've been poor as fuck their whole lives. So instead of saving it or investing it, they live beyond their means and splash out (buying luxury handbags, cars, summer homes, PJs, etc.) but don't realize that their "fortune" can absolutely disappear in a short period of time with that kind of spending, especially if they have all of their eggs in one basket, hence why new money rarely becomes old money… many people like this do in fact go into debt to keep up appearances while they're inching slowly towards foreclosure and bankruptcy.
Source: both of my brothers work in wealth management and have new money clients that are now in a shit ton of debt because of irresponsible spending

>>114573Ok, here's my recipe as someone who works in an office where I had to create an entirely business professional but casual versatile wardrobe from scratch.
Firstly, invest in a few good pairs of slacks, skirts of varying length, and blazers in the 3 main colors (black, grey, navy)
Also get a few colorful lightweight blazers for spring/summer (pink is always good)
Neutral cardigans are great because they are lightweight and can be dressed up or down depending on occasion. I have black, tan, and pink cardigans.
Get shitloads of shells (tanks) in all different colors, patterns and cuts. They are pretty cheap online from sites like Postmark or Threadup. If you have factory outlets near you those are pretty cheap as well. You can wear these with pretty much anything and look great under a blazer.
For jewelry, statement necklaces are a must. You can wear the same shirt twice in a week just by adding a statement necklace and swapping out for a different blazer/cardigan.
Shoes… not sure if you wear heels, but neutral and black heels with a pointed toe are a must. Casual flats with a pointed toe in black, tan, and navy are also good.
I avoid buying "trendy" office wear because you're buying seasonly expensive items with a potentially short lifespan. You can still look on-trend if you've got the right patterns going on. Plus, most of my wardrobe can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion, so you are not just spending money on something that has 1 purpose only.
Hope this helps!

i used to work in an office and there was one woman there who dressed in way too many layers you could tell she was uncomfortable because she got up from her spot the most and just moved around in her seat a lot more than other people.
i typically dressed in a some slacks, a blouse, and some nice slip ons. i'd carry the same cardigan with me just in case it got too cold. being overall comfortable will always be my biggest priority. if i tried on an outfit that looked really cute and professional, but i could tell i wouldn't last more than 3 hours wearing it, i'd revert back to looking for more slacks and blouses.

i take a lot of inspiration from men's fashion. women's fashion seems really complicated to me, and most days i can't be bothered. that said, i'd like advice on getting started with a more femme/'cute' take on my usual aesthetics.
big influences for me include rick owens (even tho i can't afford that shit), random people i see at local punk shows, and 2010 nu-goth shit, because my tastes have not changed since i was 15, which is probably bad. favorite brand is actual pain.
pic related would be style goals, but i live in a hot climate. a typical outfit would be a baggy black band t-shirt, black jeans and black chelsea boots. i ought to wear more colors than just black, but i like how i don't need to worry about color coordination.

Question to UK anons, can anyone recommend high waisted black leggings that aren't see through, but also aren't made for exercise?
I've had cheap ones from New Look, H&M, Asos etc. but those are always too thin and see through & end up as my pj's (+ H&M ones get holes so quickly).
I'm looking for a pair that's made from a soft material that I could wear out instead of jeans, avoiding the sporty ones that feel like they're made of foam.
Pls help

>>120438if you don't want to do the neon look, i'd look at some of madonna's 80s outfits. a decent bit of them actually still hold up pretty well today if you take away some of the accessories.
No. 120466
>>120438I think going for a look a la Madonna like the other anon suggested is a good idea, or try looks that you'd see in fashion magazines. You could even look at music videos for ideas as well. It's way more than tacky neon stuff. I'm into 80s fashion as a regular style expression, and find that to be kind of fake looking the same way that 20s costume flapper stuff is. I like the tacky shit and really dated stuff too so take my advice with a grain of salt.
Make sure you do your hair up in an appropriate style and it'll really make the whole outfit look more 80s. I tend to like pairing a loose shirt or shirt/coat with shoulderpads with a thinner bottom half like a miniskirt, pants, etc. I strongly recommend looking at actual stuff from the 80s like films, Vogue, anything, to get more inspiration for looks. Some of it, esp from Vogue, will be really silly looking, but you'll find something. A dress or skirt with a peplum can be spiced up into something 80s, if you have one, as those were quite popular. Leotards/bodysuits can be layered with a matching skirt or high-waisted jeans. There was also a resurgence in 40s styles that you can implement into your look, as long as it looks more 80s than 40s. Remember as well that you can look outside the mainstream and do more 80s goth or punk looks, if you're into either. Doing a preppy or yuppie look may be fun for laughs, although not all of it is very flattering.
For accessories, big hoops, big plastic jewelry, lots of bangles, etc, all work well and are easy enough to find. If you have time and cash to spare, thrift stores are really easy for this.
I would really emphasize the contrasting tight and baggy or boxy clothes because I've found that's a very easy way to make an outfit look 80s but still flattering compared to the really loose and boxy shit, and doing your hair up in a flattering but still 80s style.
Have fun! I know I just wrote a shitload for you to read, but I really love 80s aesthetics, and I think it's a fun period in style to work with once you get past the really ugly frumpy stuff and outlandishness. It's just a little hard to suggest specifics to you without knowing what you usually like or your haircut, face and body type, etc.

In all seriousness, I'll never understand the hype around clothing and accesoiries plastered in obnoxious logos. Why'd you wanna PAY to be FREE advertisement for a brand and on top of that wear the brand's image instead of your own?
I used to watch "luxury" youtubers and hilariously they all regularly complained about the quality of their LV/Chanel/Dior/etc. bags and accesories. >>122474I agree, but there are a couple ways to mitigate this.
Don't wear true thigh-highs. Get over-the-knee socks. I think these are a lot more wearable than thigh-highs, which for me are a little too provocative for everyday wear. But socks that end just over the knee can create a cozier and less obviously sexy look. I think of otk socks as cute and homey, not weeby. Even more so if you wear them with flat boots or oxfords.
To smooth the line (or bulge) between leg and sock, I wear non-shiny thin tights (well, "hosiery" but I hate that word) underneath. No one will notice you have flesh-colored tights on. You stay warmer and there's no "sausage bump." I recommend the non-shiny or semi-shiny h&m tights (the 2-pack ones).
Kooter used the tights trick in her outfit videos, but she did it with control tights. In some of the videos you can see the control panel descending far below her super-short skirts.

If anyone here also frequents the Kibbe Body Types thread, I'm a Soft Gamine — sharp, broad shoulders, otherwise narrow and slim upper body, 34B boobs, more defined hips and thighs than anywhere else — and 5'3" with a BMI of 20.3. I think that's where my problem lies: I'm lost with figuring out how to dress more professionally (my current job has no dress code so I tend to wear jeans and a blouse with a cardigan and my Doc Martens oxfords) especially since the Kibbe thing encourages Soft Gamines to wear skirts, so long as they're mini. Mini skirts in an office seem unprofessional to me, even paired with tights, and I don't like how constricted pencil skirts feel. I may just have to wear slacks all the time, which is fine by me, but I'd love to hear opinions.
I've looked at Express for ideas and I like a good deal of their items, but I get the feeling that they may be overpriced? Store suggestions are more than appreciated.

>>124017Except people
do get things custom made from this store, so how would they not be bespoke?
Doesn't add up somehow, maybe they're actually the ones getting mass produced versions of their own designs for the cheaper sites. Like bootlegging their own shit.
No. 124022
>>124019you can get custom items from the taobao shop though. in fact there are hundreds of taobao shops that sell custom items not even just custom sized, usually cosplay shops but stores like antaina for lolita/punk shoes have been around for 15 years now, since it seems like you're not aware of that.
from those call out posts, it's either just the taobao store ripping you off by dolling up an etsy account or a dropshipper. the most damning evidence is how many are sold. the reason the etsy seller probably accuses aliexpress shops of selling dupes is because they are just likely dropshipping, which is fine. i'd have felt the same as you maybe 5 years ago, but etsy and storenvy are so notorious for having taobao dropshippers now this doesn't seem out of place for that.
also i think you need to be educated on how taobao and chinese made clothing in general works.
>handmade is a loose marketing term sweatshop made clothes are technically handmade, the term hand sewn is a different term which still doesn't imply
where or
who sewed it.
>as i said hundreds if not more shops on aliexpress and taobao custom make itemsall that is required to do that is owning the factory or having a good relationship with them so you can get a small MOQ (minimum order quantity) and order one item of one size. many shops in the lolita community have a small MOQ but need x amount of orders to get them made.
>chinese sellers will lie for more money years back, taobao stores weren't accessible by foreigners, shopping services and aliexpress weren't really a thing so many companies would either work with small overseas shops or act as boutiques to reach the western market. this still happens today and is easier to point out, and many shops will get called out on it.
anyway i just don't want you (or other people) to get fooled into buying something 3x the cost you could get it elsewhere. it's highly likely that a highrated aliexpress seller is getting from the same factory.
No. 124024
>>124022There is only one callout post about this store, though. The rest is glowing reviews about how well-made the items are. The post itself doesn't actually prove that the accounts all belonged to the same person either. To me it looks like a classic case of bootleggers ripping images off and impersonating people.
What I have first hand experience with is, I'll see an influencer or a girl on the street wearing a really cute piece and I'll order one from a site like aliexpress and it'll be a really shitty dupe version of it with roughly the same design, but a difference in material and construction. I don't then go and assume the seller was the same as the one that sold the way better original I saw in person, because they're just not the same piece at all.
Do you personally think it is impossible for this seller to be legit?
If my math is correct it comes down to an average of 9 sales a day over 10 years on Etsy. Since there's no actual proof that the other stores are operated by the same people I can't really speculate. They have 3 people listed as "sewing", and they have separate people to handle QA, pattern-making, etc. Doesn't seem impossible to me.
No. 124026
>>124024lol you're getting so defensive and missing my points i don't get why are you assuming the seller isn't legit even if they were a big factory. is it because you feel cheated? i just explained how the marketing works and it's obvious that the taobao shop is the same store.
honestly the most laughable part of this is that the items are clearly made with super cheap synthetic materials and don't look nice for the cost. this etsy shop is clearly just to bait people who aren't internet savvy into paying a premium for their products. western brands do the same exact things with the same terminology. even expensive luxury brands do this. believe what you want though, just don't be surprised if you're wrong.
it's also extremely obvious that they're the same shop because the links on the call out redirect to their etsy.
No. 124028
>>124026I don't think you know what "defensive" means. Just because I'm not buying your claim doesn't warrant such a shitty tone out of you, ma'am.
>synthetic and uglyThere are lots of candids of their items around the net and they look good to me. The buyers that post the candid pics seem to think that the pieces are sturdy and the material is true to what they claim (i.e. wool) in the listing.
What I
never see is candids of the Aliexpress-type items being sold. Been looking at reviews and comments and user uploaded photo sections of multiple storefronts that claim to offer the same cloak I posted upthread. All I see are low res versions of the marketing images and not a single candid.

>>124043Their bespoke Chinese shit is as high quality and hand tailored as a Michael Kors bag from the clearance rack.
Tbh I don’t think most people know quality when they see it, because normally people only own mass produced shit where you’re lucky if the seams are even and the fabric lasts two dozen washes. If you’ve only known Kmart and fast fashion, some polyester top or nylon knit hastily knocked out in a cuter pattern than forever 21 has probably does look and feel like quality couture.

>>124046Your best bet will be to read about garment construction and fabrics, and check out fabrics at a fabric store. Feel the weight and grain of materials and compare them to the polyesters and cheap poplins.
When looking at seams, look for evenness, slipped stitches, or spots where the fabric has slipped out of place during sewing.
You want French/bound/flatfelled seam.
Pic related is typical fast fashion tier bad sewing. See how the hem isn’t straight? And the overlocked stitches have loose loops?

I'm trying to tell you I've had experiences ordering a cheaper aliexpress version of something I saw candids of (but from a more expensive vendor) and it's always been that I got a knockoff version. The cheap storefronts never show candids and I think that's for a reason.
A fuckton is made in china, we're not debating whether Chinese factories are bad. I'm saying whether or not this Xiaolizi is a factory or not, I can see candids of their garments and they look
good to me whereas I can find no candids of the Aliexpress listings.

I bought this skirt with the top that goes along with it a few months ago. Is there any way to wear it during the winter, though ? Or would it seem too out of place ?
I was thinking wearing a white cardigan and some transparent tights with it.

>>124111Pinup/inspired can be pretty tricky to get around in winter so I avoid it altogether.
I’m not sure where you’re based, but there’s a shop called Dangerfield who have really cute cardigans - especially from their Princess Highway and Revival brands but shipping outside of NZ and Australia is really expensive.
You’re other option could be to maybe invest in one of the Pearl coats from Collectif - they cost a pretty penny but are apparently super warm. I’m sure they have them in a dark green and navy, to bring more winter-suited tones into your outfit. Pop on some thick tights and use a hair accessory and shoes to tie the colours together.
Though I’m not sure if this is just a one-off purchase or if you are dabbling/already into pinup inspired clothes. The Pearl coat would definitely be an investment piece, otherwise yeah - just a nice cardigan with some embroidered details with a brooch. Pop a long sleeve top/merino/thermals underneath for an added layer of warmth because tbh if you’re wearing a cardigan over top to keep warm, no one will see what’s underneath.

and thick woolen stockings in Winter obv) but it would work better if the skirt were a solid color or a less fruity pattern.
Florals and fruits generally read as anything but winter, so it'll look out of place no matter what. That doesn't mean you shouldn't wear it, but you will stand out wearing something vintage-y already, and the apples on top of the cut is even more eye-catching in a gloomy season.
Is there a reason you specifically want to wear this skirt in Winter?
No. 124162
>>124126Yes, it was more about the pattern being too much summer-y that worried me.
No particular reason, I just really enjoy long skirts and don't have a lot of them to wear in winter (I can never find wool skirts). So I was wondering if I could make this one work during a colder season.

idk what it is about contemporary fashion, i live what lv and gucci havé been doing for the past 10 years, but it seems almost impossible to do anything but streetwear without making reference to 2005 or before… and with reference comes fetishization, so often, of women’s bodies, it just goes kind of hand-in-hand. so take insta thotties, that style, which is new, or billie eilish, is still like referencing the 90’s mall goth, but what her style does is also reference high fashion itself, with the fake lv and gucci tailored to her that she started out wearing… i’m just wondering what makes female fashion interesting and i think what it is, at least in the late 2010’s onward, is paying homage to like with gucci e.g., the 70’s, or pop art, or marie antoinette, without letting it become cosplay. influence rather than pastiche. you know? my thoughts are in disarray i’m just so often disappointed when i see girls who are making an effort and having it fall flat, so to speak, or be reduced to some « pinup » or otherwise alternagirl aesthetic. if this is problematic please feel free to say. xx
