A thread for everything doll related.
Stuff like Sylvanian Families/Calico critters and Nendoroid dolls are also welcomed. If you can put on clothes and pose them, they're dolls.

, idk if there is enough activity in here for a separate doll thread?
FUCK the scrotes and trannies in /toy/ though

Yeah, I was thinking this could be different from the toy collecting thread because it would focus solely on dolls - kinda like we have a plushies thread. There are so many doll lines and doll related stuff that I thought I'd give it a shot. Maybe this thread will be just me posting pics I like lol

Oh fair enough I forgot about the plushie thread. Do you know what line the dark skinned girl is, I lover her!
Bought a few MHs today from the flea market, I did not notice one Draculaura had beautiful uhhhhh, eyeshadows made with market by a kid. I like the challenge though, I'll try to incorporate it to my custom job somehow!

I agree she's super cute, I love her flocked buzz cut! Unfortunately I don't know what type of doll she is, I'll try to look for it.
Also, post your final custom when you're done!

Anon, not to be rude, but it's literally on the description lol>>214039
Their outfits are amazing, indeed. I love how they lift stuff from real life, it makes it so much more modern and relevant. Wish I could buy just their clothes.
File: 1655190055254.jpg (49.34 KB, 580x580, myfriendjenny.jpg)
Not my pic, but I recently found this My Friend Jenny doll at a little antique shop near me. She's so adorable, I love her sweet expression. Her torso and upper arms are made of cloth so she's very comforting to hold and reminds me of my old Holly Hobby rag dolls ♥ She's from Fisher Price, there are other dolls in the line but on the packaging she's advertised alongside a blonde doll named Mandy who I think is just adorable and am considering buying on ebay. I love when dolls have other friends in the line, like OG Barbie and Midge, I always pretend they're girlfriends.
Side note, but does anyone here collect larger dolls like these? If so, how do you display them? I just never feel like I have enough room to do it properly.

I feel like a bitch for this but it’s jarring how many random people (not saying you) obsess over the ghost cat. I think it’s adorable so it shouldn’t be a surprise but random Pinterest and Twitter pics have caused the prices of that figure and the blind bag series to absolutely skyrocket.
Anyway, I love the themed babies in general, picrel

It really depends on what's your purpose, I guess. I wouldn't mind tampering with it, if it was tasteful or well done. It's better than just let it collect dust. If your going to be happier with the custom, I'd do it, but if you think you're gonna ruin it, I think I'd donate it. I really like the horror idea, though

Bought some new clothes for my dolls. I haven't been able to sew, but I wanted to give them cute new clothes. Hopefully it will arrive soon! I wish the local adult doll scene was bigger, it's kinda hard to find cute clothes for dolls that are not for little kids that like really bright rainbow clothes.

I think you could buy one or two dolls like Licca chan or this >>215841
because they're quite small and don't take much space at all. Picrel, they are almost half the size of a Barbie, and with some smart choices you can get Barbie clothes to fit them. Liccas can get a bit pricey, but you could get it second hand without breaking the bank, or you could even buy separate parts on AliExpress and make you custom one for cheaper.
Example of a link for Licca heads: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPhpyR8
They also have a body in that listing, but here's another body that is more posable, and although a bit bigger, also fits a Licca head (but it's pricier too): https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPhpyR8
I'm parcial to clothes collecting rather than doll collecting, because I personally think it's more fun to own many clothes and a few dolls and create scenes/looks with them rather than many dolls that only have one or two fixed outfits. So for clothing, you can get them at AliExpress, local flea markets or thrift stores, toy stores that sell doll clothes, or even learn how to sew them yourself, which I highly recommend! It's a very rewarding hobby and you can put it to use for your own clothes as well. And it's cheaper: I've used old t-shirt's sleeves to make a whole t-shirt for my dolls, baby socks, left over fabric from making masks or stuff like that. You can have a lot of fabric variety! Also it's great for your hand coordination.
Either way, good luck, anon!

I think it's cute, but with room for improvement (for me, personally)
I am not a huge fan of the bags under the eyes that make it look kinda swollen (maybe if she painted it another color?) and the uwu eyebrows, but I really like the eye rendering. As this anon said >>216284
it's really hard to pull OMG customs off. I like their bodies and I absolutely love the variety in fashion, but their faces are very… Tweety-like. And although I do like their bodies, I wish they were a bit more standard so I could go thrift hunting for their clothes only lol

I don't know, maybe you could sew for them? I've seen them with custom clothing. But I think they are a bit different from each other, there are some dolls that come with more of a rocker/alt style, some are more preppy/designer, some are more hip-hip focused, and some are basic LA influencer, indeed. It's not a huuuge variety, but it is there.
I have no idea how much they are outside my country (which is an insane amount), but they are pricier than most dolls. I guess because of their inset eyes, lashes, and detailed fashion clothes. >>216487
For skirts and baggier clothing is definitely fine, but I think it can get tricky for shorts and more shapely tops. Some etsy stores do sell RH specific clothes, though
i dont know why mga is selling them like they are gold. Like these dolls are made in a cheap factory in china with slave labor, they should cost less than 60-80.
Mga used to sell bratz for a more affordable price and they would have huge discounts on them all the time and those dolls came with alot of accessories, now theyre money hungry.
File: 1656017559220.png (924.08 KB, 640x853, q9wh0uuf51l71.png)
I like Bratz, but they are not comparable.. Yes, RH are obviously more expensive then what they cost to make, but Bratz:
>Barely have any articulations>Same face mold for all>Clothes are usually less detailed and smaller >Mainly plastic accessories, not fabric clothing>Faces are painted on, no lashes, no inset eyes or lashes>Hair volume is smaller, also less crazy hair colors >Smaller doll in general>They don't even have feet
I am the doll that is eating the shoe on accident
Also I want a moment to appreciate how absolutely bitching the Bratz' caddilac was. It's a personal holy grail of mine
File: 1656026154285.png (2.17 MB, 1080x1080, 90235756.png)
Yeah, those are their best sellers because they are cheap and for small kids that like the excitement of opening a thousand wrappers. I don't know why you even bothered with these tbh
They are also not very comparable to RH, but yeah, MGA will sell it for profit and they are greedy (it's a big toy company after all), it's just that RH dolls are probably costlier to make because of the reasons I gave, so they will be very expensive. 80 is too much, I agree, but well, you don't have to buy it.

I am not super well versed in BJDs, but I think they are Minifees. More knowledgeable anons, please correct me if I am wrongyou can buy recasts of them on AliExpress. Some BJD elitists don't like it cause they are bootlegs. Great for costumizing, though, especially as a beginner aliexpress.com/item/1754109358.html
File: 1656284853046.jpg (258.63 KB, 1024x683, 1647364687431.jpg)
are new dolls by Volks. They share the same face. The one on the right is Mācha and the one on the left is Yumepi. Aren't they pretty?
Please do not buy recasts, you will get a subpar item made my a shady company that indiscriminately steals from small artists. Most BJD companies are just a few people and even Volks is a small business. Fairyland the maker of Minifee is already lacking, so you will get a shitty copy of a shitty doll. If it has to be a BJD, consider purchasing dolls secondhand for a cheaper option.
File: 1656286072081.jpg (237.33 KB, 750x1125, diez4-2563035683.jpg)
Reading this thread has reminded me of my longtime dream of wanting to make a BJD of my husbando, so I decided to start researching on what kind of doll would I like it to be. I ended up deciding that I'll most probably just buy a Kid Delf since they're my favorite size and I don't really trust the cheaper BJD companies for some reason or another (or maybe it's just because I find their faces ugly even when the bodies they do are just fine) and then customize it into my husbando as I sew the wig and all of his clothes.
Doll nonas that know far more than I do, any advice for me?
>>217260>The most important thing is making sure you get the doll you love the most. Ignore any advice to get a starter or a cheaper doll! It took me too many years to learn that you can really only start to enjoy the doll if it's one you love.
Thank you a lot! This really makes me glad to have heard about because I'm sure I was just about to start falling into that meme.>Luts is a good company with very good quality, so it's a good choice.
I kind of guessed so already, and I'm pretty sure that I was probably on the right since as I said on my first post, my gut feelings weren't exactly positive about the cheaper doll vendors for some reason or another.>Have you ever sewed a wig and clothes before? If not, you might waste a lot of materials learning, so keep that in mind.
Not really, but I'm willing to learn along the way and since I don't live in the US I don't think purchasing the clothing (except for maybe the shoes) off someone else wouldn't be worth it due to price and such.>I hope you can bring your husbando to life. Also, join Den of Angels as soon as you can. The hobby is a lot more fun with friends and there is information you can only get if you ask for it.
. Personally the main reason why I feel like joining it is so I can know the waiting times for certain stuff to ship home and perhaps some other obscure tips I can't get off public web resources, but I could very well do so in the future!
>>217281>NTA, but they already mentioned Den of Angels. It's basically a BDJ forum where people sell clothing, dolls and even offer face ups for a fee. You can questions. It isnt as bussin as it was 10 years ago, but it still gets traffic.
Makes a lot of sense, I guess I will check it out soon!>And a good wig helps a ton.
Really? I wonder if that means buying an actual wig and just styling it to look like my husbando's hairstyle would be the better option over doing everything myself, although considernig that I can't sew it probably would be worth the money in case I screw up my own wig.>I hope you get your dream doll, anon. Luts is a great choice.
Thanks nonna, from what I've seen most people seem to agree with Luts being one of the better choices, and I also really like their aesthetic when it comes to how they make their dolls look like.

They are really, really expensive in my country, so they are very niche. I don't think I would even be able to find them easily, let alone resell it, unfortunately. At least if it was just a fashion pack, I could probably get away with importing them for a bit cheaper.
This hippie one is also pretty cute!
Not that anon but as it says in the image, this is Immortality of Soul (I.O.S) Sezz. Same company that did the Black Butler dolls a while back.>>217923
He's cute but if you love yourself do not order from Dolk lol
Yeah the prices are outrageous here too. $19.99 doll is $64 here. Fucking crazy. Though they sold LOL OMG dolls here too for $92 (~$30 in Amazon US). I just order mine outside my country, I ain't paying those prices. Seems like no one else is either, since so few stores sell them. Once I saw a custom 1:6 Ogata doll and I really liked it (I prefer it to the usual 1:4 or 1:6 BJDs) but I forgot to save it.
Owned by sora1102sora and painted by szk003 both on Twt. Looks like a DollClans but I could be wrong. This one is actually 1:3 but I really want to see 1:6 if you find it again.>>218884

Late but in case you still want to know. These dolls can be anywhere from about $100 to $1500 depending on the size, the company, and if they are fullset or blank. Many dolls are sold blank with no eyes, no painting, no clothes, no hair. You can customize them to your liking. $300~$600 is enough for a nice doll. You can go cheaper without settling for a recast, but it will probably be a smaller doll. >>217924
is about 15000￥comes with everything in the picture and 1/3 scale. The same doll sold blank is a little more than half of that cost.

Anon, if you crafty/good at costumizing, I'd say you could make anything work.
If you are not, custom nendoroid dolls could be a good start if you don't mind the chibi look. You could either buy a nendo doll with the clothes the closest to what you want or you could buy the spare parts and start from the ground up.

On the other side of the doll spectrum, BJD Instagram really likes huge balloon lips. Thoughts on intentionally ugly dolls?
intentionally ugly art would of been something I'd enjoy if it weren't for it's correlation with woketards. I like things outside of the uwu soft anime big boobie style but I can't help but see this shit and think "this was made by a nonbinary fatty."
Also the bratz lips don't mix well with the semi-realism style of bjd. It needs to be completely cartoony imo to pull it off.

I really love the Rainbow High series aesthetic. I think the Shadow High molds are really lovely and the greyscale concept is just too cool imo. The rock band girls and the others that aren't b&w themed aren't that interesting to me. I don't want (and could never afford) to collect every doll in the Rainbow High line but I'm really happy to have the 6 original dolls from each school, they all look so nice together!

The only ones I follow are cocoriang on insta, but their dolls are more anthropomorphized than realistic. Theres also walloyamorring I follow on there, their dolls tend to range from more realistic to very chibi like.
Its difficult finding artists of animal bjds because many are just hobbyists who mainly collect. And I don't really care much to follow pages where the user blogs about their doll hobby I just want to see cute dolls so I don't follow. So unfortunately I don't have many recommendations.
I added the pic as an example of walloyamorrings work.

Any volksfags get Marie or Oscar?
Depends on the doll, if her original market price is just $150 I don't think it will raise to $500 unless she's a limited edition or a character from anime/media.
Buying stuff you dislike for the possibility of it being more expensive on the 2nd-hand market is stupid, at least I hope you kind of like the doll or else all you will get is a dust hoarder.

I’ve been relentlessly waiting for G3 Abbey’s design for months. I refused to buy any other doll from the line because I knew she would be the best one.
File: 1676848477915.jpg (40.76 KB, 531x668, g3abbey.JPG)
I don't really like how Abbey looks in the cartoon, so my expectations for the doll were low. I think in general, G3 suffers from slapping a monster-related graphic tee on characters (like Ghoulia and Lagoona) and calling it a day, and it's really lazy compared to the thought-out personal styles of G1. I really do miss Abbey's fur-trimmed dress and boots.
But something about this doll is just so damn appealing to me. Abbey is my favorite Monster High character. I don't know what it is, but somehow this doll just looks better than the cartoon despite it being the same design. Maybe it's her face sculpt?
>>276951>G3 suffers from slapping a monster-related graphic tee on characters
nta but that's my problem with G3 too. Aside from some prints on their clothes they are bad at incorporating elements from their monster origins. Abby is a yeti and her G1 design had some elements that is associated with snow and yetis. Her G1 dress looked like it was made from the same fabric wintercoats are, her pants/leggings looked like ski underwear and she wore winter boots. She also had a lot of white fur which makes you think of a yeti. While her g3 counterpart is wearing a croptop with torn-up pants which feels very summer-y(adding snowflake prints does not automatically make an outfit seem winter-y). Her g1 design isn't practical winter wear either but there are some associations with winter wear which is great character design for a snow-themed character. While I do think her g3 outfit is cute it looks like a generic y2k outfit and if I had no prior knowledge of Monster High I wouldn't believe anyone who told me that she was based of a yeti.
Her doll is really cute though. I agree that she looks much better than the cartoon. they made her face really beautiful
Hey nonna, I know this is a late reply, but you can use free SmartDoll patterns, they fit DD body (and maybe DDDY if you modify the bust and hip), there are many floating around, there are also a couple of Volks books with patterns for DD/DDDY/MDD/DDS, I have those (they are very cheap, I found them on JP Amazon) and I can scan them for you.https://shop.smartdoll.jp/products/smart-doll-free-apparel-patternshttps://www.jadepixeldoll.com/guide-to-dollfie-dream-sewing-patterns/

I think this Frankie is so cute and I’ve been 50/50 on all her dolls that came out (it’s the jaw and lips). Might repaint her cause I’m sick of those chunky eyebrows Mattel loves sticking into every brand they own now. Also god why is everywhere else so quick to jump people who call Frankie she/her? It’s a fucking doll, I don’t think she’ll start reeing cause of pronouns. >>276114

Frankie was my favourite design back in g1. Looking back it does have a very 2010 vibe to it which isn't bad per se but the g3 design is a more modern take on her design so I really like it>>278120

I really wish I could help but unfortunately I don't know much about older bjds but the doll you described sounds lovely. The only one I could find that sort of fits your description is picrel, which is Drui by Domuya (a company that doesn't exist anymore). Otherwise look into companies like Doll Chateau and Miracle Doll who are specialized in more abstract dolls.
Is there a possibility that the arms where custom mods and not part of the official doll?

Same Anon here, as I send that reply, her name suddenly came to me: Renata! From Dollzone. I found her! Still lots of thanks! Here she is, spoilered for doll nudity. Gosh I would still love to buy her, but she appears to be discontinued. B7t the itch is at least scratched!

Can't decide of I should report this as a scrote post that's meant to offend the sensitive females with a tacky coomer barbie or not report because i wanna see farmers post funny modifications.
fuck you for posting scrotey bullshit in a nice comfy thread. eat a dick.
anyway I’m embarking on my first (factory) Blythe customization, wish me luck anons!!

Any anon here who collects Mama chapp dolls? I want to get my first one. They’re just so hard to find! They look so nostalgic to me I love their little faces
File: 1682869610505.jpg (170.25 KB, 800x533, 811724.jpeg.jpg)
I don't own any (yet) but they're super cute!
90 is way too much nonna! (could be because these are sought after as animecore
). Try to buy it cheaper either on mecari or mandarke

I find on mercari they are almost as expensive as the scalper ones on ebay

I have a mama chapp doll! She's my first and only doll I own, I fell in love with her sweet face and lolita outfit (that cross lace is so gorgeous!). I got her on Mandarake for 5,000 yen 1 year ago. They had a ton of them for that price when I got her, I really should've bought more when I had the chance. Although tbh she's a bit hard to pose because since she doesn't come with a stand and can't really stand on her own. The body has a lot of articulation but a lot of the joints feel very "loose" and finicky. I want to get her more clothes but I'm not sure what sizes would fit

I could die of embarrassment… I was online browsing used BJDs at my university today. I love dolls and I don't think of them as scary plus I have become desensitized to pictures of naked, wigless dolls taken from unflattering angles. But while browsing I heard the girl next to me say "what the fuck". I tried really hard not to get branded as the weird girl this year fuck
I did watch this one and it's…fine. Pretty standard, by-and-for people who aren't super into dolls or only remember them from when they were kids. She tries to keep a fairly neutral stance and recount the various major events in doll history and their relationship to fashion. It's pretty obvious that she's not really into the doll community, especially with the fairly small section about the teen talk Barbie.
I guess if you don't like Mina Le, though, you already won't like the video.

So this existed.
nta but I havent watched the embeded video yet so im jumping the gun but there are so many comments that talk about how Barbie has done so much good for the world. Barbie is a mass-produced toy made in factory that pays shit wages owned by a multi-million dollar company. I'm a doll collector so I'm not going to say it's wrong to buy dolls but I wish doll collectors would just admit that they like the designs or craftmanships of dolls instead of desperately trying to put some activist spin into a very consumerist hobby that relies on plastic.
At least BJDfags can say they support small artists since BJDs are usually made by small companies that consists of 2-5 people but they never claim that buying BJDs is totes feminist because they know it isnt

Fellow rainbow high doll collectors…how we feeling about these new dolls? I love both Sunny and Luna but I especially love Sunny. Her bag is so cute!!
aw these are so cute. I don't collect male dolls but I really went the syaoran doll>>299208>>299211
yeah they really pulled off the greyscale effect well! I also love the detail that it's only her blush that has color
Same! I think the greyscale looks so good! The clothing isn't too bad either; usually, I'm not too fond of the clothing the rainbow/shadow high dolls wear. Speaking of not liking the clothes…
I was thinking of learning how to sew doll clothing to make my own. Rainbow high clothing can sometimes look too basic? Eitherway, I want to restyle a lot of my dolls since I can't stand their outfits most of the time.

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not but I really like Draculaura's new body. I think she's cute and she adds some variety without being straight up fat or ugly.

I actually really like how they look next to each other. But I totally agree that more characters should have that body. >>299653
Maybe, I know a lot of OG fans think the changes are ugly/stupid. But I was never a monster high collector, I only had one doll that was gifted to me. The new Draculaura is really tempting, but I think I have enough dolls tbh.

I like g3 bodies and faces, but the clothing for the dolls is mostly so ugly. Once I learn how to sew doll clothing, I will restyle them.

But I love sewing dolls' clothes, I downloaded nearly every book from OP's link.

How are your nonnies feeling about the Barbie movie doll line? I personally only like the cowgirl and pink dress one(ordered her), but I do hate their faces a little so I’m gonna just leave her in the box. Also the boy dolls are kinda ugly but I don’t really care since I don’t collect boy dolls.

Agreed on the cowgirl and pink dress, though I also like the one in pastel pink and blue. She looks like a marshmallow.
The top left male one looks like pic rel. Also lol they didn't make a doll of the tranny.

I remember seeing Lily before I knew what RH was, and thinking she was some designer collector's doll, which her price confirmed for me. Now that I've fell in love with some RH designs, I suddenly remebered her existence but also remembered her limited sale and price, but I found her for €30 and I'm so incredibly happy! She's arriving tomorrow and I'm all giddy.

What mold is this?
Repainting without using something for 'tooth' (like msc or liquidtex) is pretty difficult as plastic dolls and especially playline dolls won't 'hold' paint or build color very well because of the texture of the plastic. It's too smooth.
If you do complete a repaint w/o msc or some kind of primer/fixative, you're definitely going to see flaking and damage. Maybe not immediately but msc helps preserve the paint/watercolor pencils/whatever so it won't get damaged. Not only that, if you don't put a protective coat down before you paint, you run a much higher risk of permanently staining the doll because the plastic will absorb the pigments you use. So good luck to that guy ever redoing or removing facepaint lol

Sad that some women in Japan are brainwashed by moid coomershit thus accepting and making more of that garbage which there are already plethoras of it. They should only apply that for yaoi and josei instead.

Nonnies, I'm new to Blythes. What does it mean when they have art on the backplate? Does it just mean they're custom dolls?
File: 1694813135036.jpg (127.31 KB, 736x736, 4c0d7325e918546878f858eea05af1…)
Yes, exactly. It's up to each artist, but most use it as a "signature" or to make the doll even more unique by drawing something that goes with the theme of the doll.
Personally I don't do it on mine because I like them to be more "realistic" for posing and such, but it's a pretty cute detail that adds value to them.

Miniature-related post, I think Re-ment is kinda lackluster nowadays. Some are cute though it depends on the entire set and very much prefer originals than collabs. Pre-2010 has some really great ones but it's sad that they're long discontinued and are being sold at a crazy high price. Wished I could've gotten these when they were around.
