Damn OP, starting the thread off with a masterpiece of an album.
Speaking in Tongues by Talking Heads is also among my favorites.

Other than that I listen to a lot of Pink Floyd and Radiohead. David Bowie is also always nice.
Sometimes stuff like Kate Bush or even Peter Gabriel really does it for me.

As for more recent artists, I enjoy Tame Impala and Franz Ferdinand.

black, power, thrash, and a little bit of sludge and doom metal. my taste in bands is very sporadic but just a few of my favs are burzum, mayhem, acid bath, gwar, leviathan, helloween, king diamond, danzig, summoning, and demons & wizards.

some non-metal genres i like are dungeon synth, horrorcore and cloud rap (or whatever the fuck these are called), 80s post punk, crust punk, classic rock, psychedelic rock, and hardcore, if anyone gives a shit.

I'm a big fan of 70's rock (David Bowie aka God him-self, T-Rex, Iggy Pop, The Velvet Underground)
Also, I love Vocaloid producers/Vocalo-P like:
MARETU, Neru, Circus-P, Kikuo (his new album featuring Hanatan is just amazing, please take a look at the song "Hito ga wari/Substitute)
…but I don't care so much about the Vocaloid characters. Actually, i mostly like the "doujin" scene.

i listen to a lot of new wave mostly, ranging from the more traditionalish rock sounds like the cars to more poppy new wave artists like duran duran. bowie is one of my all time favorite artists, and in addition to aladdin sane (which i know is like, baby's first bowie album) and low i really love station to station and diamond dogs. oddly enough even though i listen almost exclusively to 80s music, i'm not a huge fan of bowie's 80s albums and mostly prefer his older stuff. they aren't bad but don't have as distinct of a sound with the exception of scary monsters.

occasionally i listen to 60s music too, not anything specific like garage rock but pretty much anything 60s…motown, psychedelic, the girls in the garage movement, etc. if any of you guys like 60s psychedelic rock specifically, you should definitely check out the cambodian psych out movement! really quality stuff

But if I had to choose:
-The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust (of course)
- Aladin Sane ("Time", "Cracked Actor" and "Lady Grinning Soul" are great)
-Low (inspired by some German electro bands like Nu/all the bass parts are fantastic)

Bowie had so many different style that everyone can love at least one of these.

I love New Order. Age of Consent is one of my all time favorite songs to dance to. I'm really glad that they didn't keep the name joy division as their sound changed without Ian's dreary influence.

Do you like Siouxsie and Budgies other project, The Creatures? It's definitely poppier than the banshees. Or have you listened to joy division when they were still punk, Warsaw? Walked in Line and Ice Age are classics.

Decrease in skill imo. Lack of energy, compare live concerts from back in the day to now (not entirely surprising, this happens to a lot of bands once a member sobers up). Plus they take so long in between albums you generally expect more from them.

my favorite band is definitely Skinny Puppy. but only stuff from before Dwayne died, because IMHO their new music is trash. I think it lost a lot of it's magic when Dwayne died, when Ogre (and Key) lost their young angst, and when they switched to more digital equipment. it makes me really sad but I still fucking LOVE them and think they really did something amazing. I think Ogre has a real talent for writing lyrics. I seriously respect their political and moral views…I have Key on IG and I'm so tempted to send him a message because he doesn't have many followers and I suspect he would easily be able to respond… but I'm just waiting for the perfect thing to come to my mind to tell him or show him or ask him.

I can't really choose a favorite album, but I think it'd be a tie between Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse (pictured), and Cleanse Fold and Manipulate. their 80s albums are the best, and their shows from that era are too.

have you checked out disco volante and the OU818 demos? disco volante is my favourite mr bungle album of all time and the OU818 demos feature a lot of tracks off california, and iirc a few off the self titled release.
did you know mike patton once retaliated against his fans booing the melvins when they opened for him by taking a laxative, shoving a turkey baster up his asshole, and firing his liquid shit into the crowd? king buzzo is a lot better at telling the story than i am
spoilered for disgusting, but he's a real one for that, for sure
are you a fan of any of his other projects? i'm not hugely into faith no more but angel dust is a masterpiece in my eyes, and i think their sound almost definitely had a huge influence on the nu metal scene.

Same, tbh. Who wouldn't fall for his "i don't give a flying ape shit about your excuse for music" schtick and his talent is unbelievable. I love him, i want him to spit in my face and piss in my shoe just so he can drink it. (read somewhere he did that once on a stage, not sure if it's true or not but i think it's it possible when it come to him)

I did. The first one i came across was Bungle self-titled when i was a teenager and it took me some years to get to like Disco Volante. It's so raw and not that approachable as the rest of his Bungle work, glad i took the time to get into it. Still, California is my fav - soothes and makes me anxious at the same time.

Omg, have to look it up. Hilarious.

Not so much. I like individual songs from his other projects rather than whole albums. Tomahawk have some good songs so do FNM (angels dust is the best one, without debate and I agree with them influecing the nu metal scene), Peeping Tom is meh and Fantomas is pure madness.

Try to give a listen to the Irony Is a Dead Scene from The Dillinger Escape Plan. It features Mike and it's not so bad imho (Pig Latin got me kinda hooked up on that one), also look up Cardiacs, you might like them if you're fan of Mike's work. A Little Man And A House And The Whole World Window is a good start, so is Sign to God.

How do you like to listen to music? By genres, bands, albums, songs? I listen to music by bands, by this I mean I have a handful of bands that I absolutely love and I listen almost exclusively to their songs. It's not because I am some exclusionist, it's because I don't want to waste my time listening to music that I don't absolutely love. So I just stick to what I know best.

I mainly listen to EBM/aggrotech/electro-idustrial.

My faves are Nine Inch Nails, Agonoize, Acylum, Ayria, Icon of Coil, Zeromencer, Oomph!, Skinny Puppy, Das Ich, Celldweller, Jesus on Extasy, Kidneythieves, Aesthetic Perfection, God Module, The Retrosic and Depeche Mode tho not all their albums fit.

Also some post-punk like Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, The Cure, The Jesus And Mary Chain, Flowers For Agatha and My Dad Is Dead.

As you can figure out from this easily, I'm a goth. But I feel so ashamed of my musical tastes since they're not exactly gothic, they almost all are industrial. It was a huge divide thing between goths and rivetheads and now I'm a person who identifies with goth first and I mostly listen to industrial so I feel like I'm not a "true goth"/
There were always a ton of elitists in the subculture and it gets to me so bad. I personally think that gothic and industrial are a huge same pool, but it still gets to me that I'm not that incredible real life vampire uber-goth.

My ultimate guilty pleasure and my favourite album to this day is A Fewer You Can't Sweat out by Panic! At The Disco. I also unironically listen to Ke$ha sometimes.

yea arab on radar is sweet a heck too.
tho i prefer the guitar work of the chinese stars myself. it hardly even sounds like a guitar

but both of them have that super dance-y and fun vibe thats really lacking in modern rock music. they were fun as hell to see live bc everyone actually danced and had a good time. recently every time i have to go to/play a show, its just a bunch of people trying not to spill their beers, with their phones up in the air recording it. doesnt matter that their phones will record the worst possible version of it, they do it so they can post it on their soc media to let everyone know how exciting their life is. blegh.

theres no "edge" to guitar-based music anymore, its just a tradition now. some of the popular bands (at least near me) are even technically "good", but they lack any sort of edge/intensity/fun. no wonder no one gives a hoot about rock music anymore. so sterile

heres an electronic act ive been listening to a lot en lieu of exciting rock music. as dumb as it is a lot of the time, the interesting stuff is coming from the underground synthwave stuff rn imo. its just too bad theres hardly any "scene" for it in the traditional sense. it mostly exists as an internet phenomena

No One Ever Tells You by The Crystals (1963)

*When you're a little girl, the future looks so bright
No one ever tells you that it hurts to live
And things don't always have to turn out right
No one ever tells you 'bout love and how it can make you cry
No one ever tells you how your heart can break
When someone that you love tells you goodbye
And when the pain begins and the teardrops start to burn
No one ever tells you how it hurts to live
No one tells you you just live and learn*

Graveyard Queen
Zombie Ghost Train

Lost my baby on a moonless night
Our dreams were shattered of our teenage lives
Her severed head sittin' on my knee
The words she spoke now haunting me

I love you, babe and I've been thinkin' all night
You're arms around me in a bed satin white
I wanna give it all to you
Show my love is really true
Time is right, my cherry's ripe

In the morgue my baby lying naked no distress
Her frozen body crying, "take me from this place."
Took my only girl from this lonely world
To the graveyard she became…

My graveyard queen she's cold and mighty lean
She's got that morbid sheen
Yeah, she's my graveyard queen
My baby is a graveyard queen

Took my only girl from this lonely world
To the graveyard she became…

At dark in the graveyard night
I made my girl my queen
Lovers at last a final gasp
A coffin set the scene
Took my lonely life
With a carving knife
To die beside my haunted dream

My graveyard queen she's cold and mighty lean
She's got that morbid sheen
Yeah, she's my graveyard queen
My baby is a graveyard queen

My graveyard queen she's cold and mighty lean
She's got that morbid sheen
Yeah, she's my graveyard queen
My baby is a graveyard queen
Graveyard queen, graveyard queen, graveyard queen, graveyard queen

Living with the Lost Boys
Youth spent as a deckhand on the convoy
Moved every night to prove we were something
Got confused if it was from or to that we were running
I've seen Gibraltar
I've seen the Taj Mahal
Soweto, Hagia Sophia
Chefchaouen paints their walls blue
I've played to full rooms
I've played the fool too
Burning through the bottoms of a pair of new boots
Cut my hair, tape my tits down
A woman on her own must be from out of town
Funny, you don't know the concessions that you're making
Until you catalog 'em
And by then they're many and you're battle-hardened
Heat makes liquid of the asphalt
Keepsakes and parking tickets on the dashboard
I'm here to file my report as the vixen of the wolf pack
Tell Patient Zero he can have his rib back
You can count my ribs
Wanna know what class I'm in
Count my
You can count my ribs
You can't be too broke to break
As a woman always something left to take
So you shouldn't try to stay too late or talk to strangers
Look too long, go too far out of range 'cause
Angels can't watch everybody all the time
Stay close, hems low, safe inside
That formula works if you can live it
But it works by putting half the world off limits
You can count my ribs
Wanna know what class I'm in
Count my
You can count my ribs, my
We don't say, "Go out and be brave"
Nah, we say "Be careful, stay safe"
In any given instance, that don't hurt
But it sinks in like stilettos in soft earth
Like the big win is not a day without an incident
I beg to differ with it
I think a woman's worth
I think that she deserves
A better line of work
Than motherfucking vigilance
Don't give me vigilance
By definition you can't make a difference
If the big ambition
Is simply standing sentry to your innocence
That's not a way to live
That can't be what a woman is
That gives her nothing to aspire to
What that is
What that is
Is just a life of running fire drills
We're running fire drills
We're running fire drills
We're running fire drills
We're running fire drills
We're running fire drills
We're running fire drills
We're running fire drills

Dessa is incredible. Her genre is not my cup of tea at all, but her lyrics are so good they make up for it tenfold.
Seamstress might be my favourite song by her. I know it's intended to be about her lover, but it reminds me of my dad and our terrible relationship.
I would pick my favourite lyric, but it's literally this entire piece:

well I'm putting you
out of my misery,
we ain't got much, but
we've got history
it was a mercy kill, nah
it was a suicide, nah
it was an accident, nah
well at least I tried

with soft dugs and a seam ripper
tough love and tape measure
stitching up boys is different that way
you fix a bird, you buy a cage
you fix a man and
you fix a man and
and he flies away

when I ran out of thread I couldn't let go
but that's not sewing that's
that's just poking holes
and it's a strange breed
a different kind of creature looks for love
through the eye of a needle
but the creed of the seamstress is
that you're pretty in pieces

Same, I love Hospice and relate to the record so much. I wish I liked the rest of the discography as much, but I mostly like some songs of each album. Maybe someday they will grow on me. Putting the Dog to Sleep and Palace are amazing tho.

I don't like The Antlers at all besides Hospice. The only other song of theirs I listen to is Doppelganger.
But Hospice is genuinely a masterpiece. I spent like a third of my life in hospitals so it hits really hard.

No. 40819

Wow, thanks for making me less alone in being a Hospice-fan only (more or less). I want to love all of the records but somehow I can't.
I am so sorry about your health. I hope you are better now and can enjoy life out of hospital.
BTW I am currently reading the Sylvia book by Leonard Michaels and while I am sure that the narrator will make me want to bash his head in sooner rather than later, it's interesting when you can find passages that seem to be the inspiration behind certain lyrics of Hospice. I would recommend it for that reason if you like to see what inspired artists whose work you hold dear.

BTW, OP (if you are still here) >>40740: I remembered two other albums that people recommended to me based on my Hospice love. Those didn't work for me (because I am super picky and I never like the bands that are supposed to be like the other thing I enjoy), but you might also like:
>There Will Be Fireworks - The Dark, dark bright (too peaceful for me, but love The River out of it)
>The World is a Beautiful Place and I am no longer Afraid to Die - probably anything, but Harmlessness is considered their best AFAIK.
I enjoy it, though not as much as I wish I could. Please at least listen to the Diana the Hunter song and read on it, as it's about a modern feminist hero.

I’ll give these a listen to, thanks! I’m a music junkie and spend like 5 hours of my day jamming out to music. Any other suggestions would be great. I recommend them highly to anyone who reads this (particularly the latter!)

former twi-fag here. Shamefully, Stephenie Meyer was the person who got me into Weezer because she had a few of their songs on her twilight playlists. I remember The World Has Turned and Left Me Here and Say It Ain't So were on them. This was in like 2007. I did know a few of their songs at that point but I only really got into the blue album through her. Pinkerton might be my favourite album ever.
I also got into The Mountain Goats through John Green around that time which might be equally as shameful.

>>40740
On Avery Island and the Ferris Wheel on Fire EP are more NMH releases that are well worth your time.
I'd also actually recommend The Mountain Goats to you anon! Good albums to start with would be All Hail West Texas and The Sunset Tree. I got into them because I knew John Green liked them, and he also liked NMH so I trusted his judgement.

>Time for a lil nostalgia trip! Fun! Teehee the aughts!
and then instead you enter like a dissociative state thinking about the Bush era vs. the Trump era? It's just wild to me to think about SOAD or Green Day or even Dixie Chicks being like "hey that guy is dumb" and that being the boldest most edge-lord (career ruining in the case of Dixie Chicks) thing you could do compared to today. American Idiot just feels like the equivalent of the bad kid talking back to the teacher and everyone in class going ooooOOOH! can he say that?! when I listen to it as an adult in 2019. But it also makes me appreciate Green Day for not pulling punches and making an entire era of dumb teen kids kind of pay attention to politics a lil bit.

Kim Shattuck passed away from ALS two days ago and I was genuinely gutted about it, I think in part because it was just so unexpected. I feel like so many beloved artists have been dying in the last couple years and it always happens to be coincidentally right after I've started playing their music again. pete shelley, mark hollis, tom petty, ric o, daniel jonhston, on and on and on. I know that's just life but it sucks to have songs that were special to you or that used to cheer you up become something that makes you sad (like all these catchy upbeat Muffs songs are currently doing to me lol). it also weirdly makes me feel like motivated to not take things or people or their art for granted while they're still here, even though I didn't know these people personally, and to maybe not sleep on my own dreams while I'm at it.

I drive to work and listen to Big Black. I get home and sit in my room and listen to Big Black.

I guess the only explanation is that I had to move back to my shitty small town after college and still haven't re-escaped three years later so I just have to accept that I am a massive loser and subhuman southern gutter trash and there is no point in aspiring to become anything else since I blew all of my chances. And this is the only fitting soundtrack to that state of being.

holy shit clarence clarity mention

I'm honestly not very impressed with Rina herself. She would flop without Clarence, the fucking genius. No one else could work with her, her actual style is generic and repetitive. Which would be fine if she didn't try to market herself as breaking the boundaries of standard pop music with anything other than Clarence's sound that she has nothing to do with. Akasaka Sad is the only song on her recent album that I actually like.

Anyone listen to his really old stuff?

I think you're giving her too little credit; as far as i know a lot of the concepts are hers, and she is quite involved in the production process. No. 87583

Yeah reading her lyrics and stuff is lackluster. She would be generic if it wasn't for him, it has his artistry all over her music. No now and his new album are fucking fire. I'm so happy anons here are into his music too. If I showed my friends they would probably be weirded out.
I didn't know about his older stuff anon. Please post more!

No. 87584

>>87542
I do believe they write and work on things together but it's painfully obvious that the music itself is heavily influenced by him, he's literally the audio engineer and producer on her stuff for a reason. He works for her to make her stand out because at the end of the day how do you think an album about being woke and asian would be on its own? She hasn't ever showcased her own stylistic choices. CC has worked on everything she's put out before this album.
To be fair many pop artists are guilty of worse, not even writing their own lyrics at all. I just think you can't deny he gave her that sound. It wouldn't exist without him at all. It's a similar situation to Billie eyelash and her bro.

Holy shit I'm back, I didn't expect this to break me quite like it did.
It explores the progression of how a person with Dementia would feel like. From the small first signs, to the memory loss, to the end of one's being, until you die as the husk of who you used to be.
I recommed listening to it at least once. It is not for everyone, it is depressing as fuck and I'm sure this just left a wild impact in my life. But godamn, that's art. Art in audio form. Please check it out if you can, if you have 6 hours to spare.

Linked is the original song sampled in many of the pieces of this album. It gets disorted everytime and at times you can only hear it very faintly. This album has honestly made me reflect on my life, the death of my loved ones, and my own future death. It might have changed me a little deep inside.

Thank you for the rec, anon! Where do you find more interesting music like that? Not necessarily similar to this, but as artsy and thinkworthy?

That was a harrowing listen, though the parts 1-3 are quite pleasant to the ear. The next parts would have completely broken me had I not heard as disturbing music in certain video games. It was still deeply disturbing and horrifying. I can't imagine listening to this music in the middle of the night, home alone.

For anyone considering giving this a shot, the records were released for years so the listener could experience The Caretaker's descent into dementia in real time. It is therefore absolutely not necessary to listen to all parts from start to finish. I think it may even be better to listen to one part per day, so you can notice the changes.

I wan't to revisit the records, especially parts 1-3. I am also even more sure that I want to commit suicide before I get completely old. I do not want to go through dementia and other debilitating illnesses that leave you a shell of yourself that is barely capable of breathing.

I personally don't think its worth buying physical copies of music these days, unless you are a collector in which case you do you. Unless you just like the idea of being able to hold music physically, digital just beats physical on all fronts; your collection is safer digitally (it can't damage or get stolen), there's more available digitally, easier to store and cheaper.

Anyway if you still want to go through with it, I'd search for a community of collectors because this is such a niche question, you're probably not going to get an answer here.

i’m always confused on this point. if you look at everything that was lost in the universal fire it’s a good thing that there are actual physical cd’s out there, right? that if there hadn’t been cd’s of something very old, then high quality remasters would be impossible because you still need to have the original to source from. right? not trying to start trouble, just don’t fully understand it.

they lost the masters for billie holiday’s entire decca catalog. so careless and sad. there’s a good article at the NYT about it if anyone cares to read.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/11/magazine/universal-fire-master-recordings.html

No. 107626

>>107624
I'm talking about personal, private collections consisting out of copies, not about labels and artists storing their originals.

For an individual hobbyist collecting copies for their personal collection, it's way safer to collect music digitally. A physical collection can scratch, get lost, damaged in fire, stolen. A digital copy can be backed up, multiple times so if desired, you can make it so that you'll realistically never lose the copy you paid for and it can't be damaged.

>if you look at everything that was lost in the universal fire it’s a good thing that there are actual physical cd’s out there, right? that if there hadn’t been cd’s of something very old, then high quality remasters would be impossible because you still need to have the original to source from. right?

And this wouldn't be a problem if they digitalized everything. Old crap recorded on ancient formats can be digitalized too.

OK then… Apart from the obvious Daft Punk (I strongly prefer their older albums though, as well as Thomas Bangalter's solo stuff), I would also recommend Etienne de Crecy, Vitalic and Laurent Garnier.

Also, pretty much everyone on the Ed Banger label. I like Mr Oizo, but many of his songs may sound too strange and experimental. DJ Mehdi (RIP) was also really good, especially if you like more hip hop-ish beats. Check out Ed Banger compilation albums, you'll find many gems.

I'm also going to half jokingly mention Uffie though, even though I consider her absolutely talentless, the production on her songs is really good. The unique styles of each Ed Banger artist shine on her songs, it's really easy and satisfying to recognize who made it before checking out the songwriting credits.

I love GATS too idk why I didn't include it, probably been listening too much to the manics when they disparage it. In terms of them being basic or not I wouldn't say they're too unknown but ofc that depends which era you know them from. From EMG and onwards they've a pretty solid britpop fan (wince) listenership. It seems every gen x male alt rock listener that spergs about the music from his glory days has one of their 3 most commercial albums on cd lol. Their Richey-era stuff is pretty culty though I'd say. And no one one under 30 seems to know them.
Richey was a godlike lyricist. Pretty unpopular opinion amongst manics fans I guess but I'm a bit disappointed with the music his lyrics are set to on JFPL. I still love that album but I think it would have sounded better recorded sooner after he'd left all those songs behind, the other 3 have kind of lost their edge these days imo. But maybe a more mellow sound is more fitting, I suppose it suits how resigned they are in and tone compared with THB. It certainly wouldn't have been respectful to put them out right after his disappearance but I like to imagine hwat they'd sound like with a more Holy Bible-like sound.
I care way too much about this but how can I help sperging when crossing paths with another CoR devotee on the internet kek

Imagine shitting on GATS when EMG and like half of their post-Richey effort is right there. Controversial take, I know. But I couldn't help myself
I cannot understand why they hate this record! Even Sleepflower, such a memorable opener and a wonderful song overall??? They are fucking crazy.
Sidenote but yesterday I finally watched the No Manifesto documentary and tbh it was an unpleasant experience… not enough Richey, too much random ugly and unkempt fans (I know we are on lolcow, but I usually don't harp on people's looks. In this case I was distressed since every person was uglier and messier than the previous. What the fuck? Only the cute hamster girl and maybe like 2 other randoms didn't make me cringe) that didn't have any fresh takes. To top if all, of course James was shitting on GATS lmfao. I'm gonna watch the GATS documentary on youtube now to kill the bad taste. Have you seen No Manifesto and did you like it?

It's shocking to me that people can prefer their post-Richey stuff, but then again it strikes me as very "dad rock" (I know it's not the kind of music this term probably means, but I cannot explain it better). I know that the Manics could not be The Generation Terrorists forever… but still the way they changed makes me sad. As you have said, they lost their edge. How can one band have the entire The Holy Bible record in their catalogue, and yet also release turds like People Give In? IDK, but some musicians and bands seem to stay forever young in their own way, like say David Bowie.
Maybe I shouldn't admit it but I truly am a CoR fan and I mostly love the first three records. I am trying to keep an open mind, but It's really distressing to me what happened to the band after Richey disappeared. At the moment I cannot stand EMG and have just accepted that TIMTTMY is a good album, even if a bit too poppy and "pretty" for my taste in Manics.
>Richey was a godlike lyricist. Pretty unpopular opinion amongst manics fans I guess but I'm a bit disappointed with the music his lyrics are set to on JFPL. I get you. On one hand I'm impressed that James and co. have managed to write music around those lyrics at all since Richey didn't take into consideration how easy they would be to sing. From what I've heard (and I haven't listened to all the post-Richey records) JFPL is the only one that approached the mood and quality of the first three, so I am quite happy with it. On the other… I've read that Richey wanted the 4th record to have a kinda Nine Inch Nails sound, how amazing would that be? Much closer to THB and probably heaps better than what we've got. Oh well.
>I care way too much about this but how can I help sperging when crossing paths with another CoR devotee on the internet kek
I'm so glad to have run into you while I am on my Manics kick! Richey and them are one of my autistic interests that I immerse myself in every few months. I get what you mean, but even after you've invested way too much time into finding every bit of information about them available there's not a whole lot of discussion to be had in my experience. It seems the people still talking about them on tumblr especially are the kind to simp for anything they do, and aren't inclined to think critically about their work at all which goes against everything the band stood for (in the beginning at least) imo. When RIF came out and everyone was raving about songs like People Give In I was just like…… yeah, no. I'd had enough of the community on there at that point.
>I finally watched the No Manifesto documentary and tbh it was an unpleasant experience… not enough Richey, too much random ugly and unkempt fans (I know we are on lolcow, but I usually don't harp on people's looks. You're dead right about No Manifesto, tbh it was ruined by the fan monologues. A couple of testaments about how the band changed their lives and all that would have done the job, and they surely could have picked a handful of attractive people to be on screen from thousands of fans. It just wasn't necessary to include the amount of unkempt looking ones that they did.
>I've read that Richey wanted the 4th record to have a kinda Nine Inch Nails sound, how amazing would that be? Much closer to THB and probably heaps better than what we've got. Oh well.
It pains me to imagine what JFPL could have sounded like. I think Richey was mostly joking when he said he'd like the next album to sound like Nine Inch Nails meets Pantera but I think that'd be pretty sick lol.
The Kevin Cummings book is gorgeous, and mostly consists of Richey-era photos. The pictures of Nicky and Richey together really are sparkling images.
I suppose it's a cliche, every richeygirl says his lyrics changed her life blah blah blah but when I first listened to Yes aged 14 that song spoke to me like nonthing ever had before. It summed up everything I was feeling at the time as did the rest of the record. It gave me such higher standards for what I'd listen to lol. I'll always have a soft spot for THB (though soft is the last word you'd use to describe it).
It's always nice to run into another Manics fan. I'm pretty much always here and ready to give my stale, salty takes.

Lmfao the quote in your pic isn't real, right? Is it about Holy Bible?
What stuff would you recommend to read/watch? I have a terrible memory so I can learn about the Manics forever because I keep forgetting shit all the time. It's horrible! I plan to reread the Everything book, I fucking adore it so much. I also enjoyed the Richard novel and I am also looking forward to reading it for the second time and seeing how I like it now.

If the fanbase was in love with PGI… I'm horrified. I almost wish that MSP changed their name to something else post Richey because it makes my brain explode that the edgy band responsible for Faster also recorded such complacent pop garbage.
I remember stumbling upon a choking-on-ellipses tumblr and being in love with all the in-depth Manics meta. Sadly the blog got deleted. The author came back with an meta-squash url but sadly she hasn't reposted most of her content. I love reading those kind of deep takes because I don't feel I will ever fully understand Richey's lyrics. Do you?

I've owned the Assasinated Beauty album for years and it always makes me happy to look at the photos and quotes. The design is brilliant! I really want to see what the Mitch Ikeda photobook is all about, since it's so elusive and he has photographed them a lot during their prime time.

no it's just some meme off tumblr. I'm sure the Manics themselves would have had something much more eloquent to say.
>What stuff would you recommend to read/watch?
I wish I could give you recommendations on stuff about the band but one you've read Everything and the articles which are archived on forever delayed, you've pretty much got all the quality information out there. There's a lot of subpar books written on them, Richey in particular, to make a quick buck. As a THB fanatic I have to recommend Triptych: Three Studies of Manic Street Preachers' The Holy Bible by Rhian E. Jones, Daniel Lukes and Larissa Wodtke. It's more cerebral and academic than it is heavy on the rockstar mythology or band history but I thought it was a pretty interesting read.
>I almost wish that MSP changed their name to something else post Richey because it makes my brain explode that the edgy band responsible for Faster also recorded such complacent pop garbage.
Same here, to me the Manic Street Preachers were all four of them and while I get that without them veering off path of what they originally set out to do (sell 16 million copies of GT and break up) we wouldn't have gotten the subsequent 2 records, the band today is so far removed from what they were. I always think it's better for such an iconic thing to be relegated to it's place in history and for the musicians to just start a new project lol.
Do you?
choking-on-ellipses was a goldmine. I don't think it's possible to ever fully understand Richey's lyrics because of the very nature of them being spat out from his mind, as well as each one being an omnium-gatherum of references taken from everywhere. He didn't try and make them more easily understandable or condense them, as we can see when James is like, you crazy motherfucker how am I meant to write music to this lol. His bandmates don't always know exactly what he's on about, I'm pretty sure unless he told you you'd be lying to say you have it all figured out.
I need to get my hands on a copy of that Mitch Ikeda book one day. All I can do right now is wait for when Nicky throws scraps of old pictures at us on instagram. It makes me really sad to think there won't be any more new pictures taken like that again. All the plight of getting into the Manics in the 2010's I suppose. Many such cases!

I discovered this piece in my mom's album stash years ago and I still like to revisit it every once in a while because it gives me such intense feels. If you've got 20 minutes to spare and enjoy orchestral music give it a listen

I am in the US and not an Arabic speaking person, but this song came up in my recommendations on Spotify and I have listened to is a million times already. So good. Arabic music is just so beautiful.

This is a very edgy song from a very controversial movie, but this song messes with me purely because the singer is incredibly good at conveying the emotion the character is feeling.

Wow this sounds like it could be on the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure OST, not bad!

Honestly, I thought it was going to be some techno bs from the English dub. Thank God it wasn’t.

i don't really remember any music from the yugioh anime aside from the IT'S TIME TO D-D-D-DUEL song which i honestly liked more than the japanese opening song

changing the type of music to something darker,i've been in love with this japanese singer who disappeared in the early 00s.even though i love most of her work(with or without her band)i tend to come back to this song

I’m obsessed with this song despite not watching (nor wanting to) Bubblegum Crisis, really gets me the feels about this current era.

Lauren Bennett, Love Gun. (The English girl from that annoying LMFAO song and those thot pussycat doll style groups). She has a good voice, it's a shame she didn't make a bigger hit.

There's no sunshine
This impossible year
Only black days and sky gray
And clouds full of fear
And storms full of sorrow
That won't disappear
Just typhoons and monsoons
This impossible year

There's no good times
This impossible year
Just a beachfront of bad blood
And a coast that's unclear
All the guests at the party
They're so insincere
They just intrude and exclude
This impossible year

There's no you and me
This impossible year
Only heartache and heartbreak
And gin made of tears
The bitter pill I swallow
The scars souvenir
That tattoo, your last bruise
This impossible year

There's never air to breathe
There's never in-betweens
These nightmares always hang on past the dream

There's no sunshine
There's no you and me
There's no good times
This impossible year

This isn't necessarily one of my favorites but I was reminded that Sleigh Bells exists tonight and I think this album had a huge influence on my music taste. Treats came out when I was a freshman in high school and I had never listened to/enjoyed something that noisy before.

No. 117810

help me. I want to make two 4 hour long playlists, one is metal and the other one is goth/80's electro music. I have a lot of symphonic metal for my metal playlist and a lot of depeche mode on my other playlist. I'm open to recommendations for bands and individual songs

This was pretty unusual for a reality tv instagroup. Their discography is mostly solid to this day imo.
Their respective solo stuff and the pitiful shit Xenomania put out after Girls Aloud is another story.

This song is super good, and The Orb is also really worth exploring, but I also just can't get over how nice the girl's voice in the sample sounds. I've never wanted someone's voice before but I do now, I guess.

Completely not my style of music but I love this song, gives me so much nostalgia. And it's better than mainstream american pop, where good melody is non existent.

There was the Brit Awards performance where at 2:29 in this vid, bland and tinkly Fight for This Love suddenly switches to Robin S's classic house track Show Me Love and the room explodes. It swaps back to the royalty-free nothing of the original song at 3:16 and I just thought "why."
Cheryl's label were fools for not commissioning a remix based on this bit of the performance.
