So you have kids trying to get as far ahead as possible and rushing into adulthood. Not to mention that with the internet, people are afraid to be as open about their hobbies/subcultures because they're afraid of ending up in a viral video. You see it with pranks, too. My school's senior pranks were abysmal. Senior Skip Day? The faculty threatened anyone who attended with being banned from walking at graduation.
Basically it's comes down to teens having higher expectations placed on them and the adults in their lives being far more overbearing.

In turn all of these content providers are borrowing from each other. Trends are boosted so loudly that if they don't take hold, then they die faster.
Everything is flattening and becoming homogeneous but I think it's more from everything overall being mixed together than everyone copying the exact same source.
