I'm staying on twitter. The people I follow will stay and I don't post anything in particular that will require moving somewhere else. I hope all the retards who ruined twitter in 2016 and tumblr even before that will move to mastodon or pillowfort or whatever.

I don't care, wake me up when there's a youtube alternative that isn't full of rightwing moids.

NTA but usually blocking all sponsored tweets & changing the privacy settings does the trick for me, remember to set your timeline to "newer tweets first" though, the "home" timeline will throw trash at you. I also use an adblocker to remove the right navigation with trending topics and such. Usually it stays calm for a month or two, then it shows adds again, i block all of them (usually takes 4 minutes or so) and it becomes normal again.
I haven used it, but my sister vitis twitter thru.. tweetdeck I think? Or a name similar to it. She says that one blocks out sponsored content l.

idk, I just reject every suggestion whatsoever, I put that I'm in Japan to have Japanese trending tags, I use English on the app and website instead of my first language and I block a shit ton of people. I follow like 50 or 60 accounts. I downloaded my data and they couldn't guess my gender and they guessed that I'm between 19 and 54 years old, their recommended topics are literally everything and anything, same for the ads so they show me shit that's straight up inaccurate compared to what I'm posting about. Maybe being in the EU helps thanks to the GRDP.

There are feminist & radfem instances, but sadly they aren't places where that kind of talk is accepted including any other, they're fully focused on feminism and it's the only thing you can talk about.
But also mastodon isn't the only instance, just the most popular one. This site (sites, actually) works by having lots of independent instances and then "merging" them onto your tl (just the instances you are part in, of course). I guess mastodon has a "no hate speech" rule, which most likely include radfem talk, but you can try look into others with laxer rules.

I thought mastodon was infected by pedophiles? I mean, not to say you associate yourself with them now, but back then that was their primary "escape". If you used it until more recently, you probably knew someone sketchy lol.

Idk about "mastodon" proper, but many fediverse instances are indeed chock full of pedophiles. Poa.st is a prominent one where Metokur and Josh Moon went, and is also notable for being lolicon central and worse. Their admin is an unstable weirdo and probable pedo and their userbase hates "dramafags" aka kiwis and lolcow-followers, has a really, really expansive definition of "doxing" except when its someone the admin has a venretta against and then it is fine. Nasty place. Josh's instance (kiwifarms.cc) was kind of unremarkable unless you are super into KF but full of Josh sycophants, it's down now because of trannies attacking his infrastructure and unlikely to be back in usable form anytime soon. The other kiwi-adjacent instance is chudbuds.lol which caters to the Metokur crowd and such, of the three it's probably best it you like that kind of thing.
There's spinster.xyz which is supposedly radfem-oriented, it might be worth checking out, men are allowed I think but I haven't really checked it out.
I'm actually considering starting my own because there is nothing that fits the bill that I'd like to see which means (a) no porn, (b) mild "doxing" allowed (i.e. posting people's names and info is fine, no need to drop their whole ass contact info maybe; a lot of sites "doxing" rules are so expansive you can't even deadname a troon), (c) terfy talk allowed, (d) generally free-speech oriented but not filled with nazi sperging.

Everything I've heard and seen from mastodon so far makes it sound like it's the lovechild of twitter and reddit. At first I thought everybody was talking about the metal band mastodon kek. Mastodon' webiste mascot is pretty cute tho.

"Mastodon" is not the whole "Fediverse," refers to both the software and to "mastodon.social", which is one server running the software. The mastodon server is a sjw hugbox infected with troons, but there are plenty of "problematic" servers, including ones with straight up CP. You can't ban people from other servers, but you can "defederate" meaning that users from those servers will not show up on yours. This leads to a lot of inter-server drama and politicking around what is and is not acceptable.
Making your own server does not seem to be too difficult if you have a modicum of tech skill, it's something I've looked into (I do have such a modicum) and might fall more under "pain in the ass" than actually "difficult", and then you have to jannie the thing and deal with federating/defederating with other instances. It's still something I'm considering though.
