Its nice to get into something. Sharing in something that takes anaylsis. From an intellectual perspective sports can be very enjoyable. I know some of you may think its not, but you should give it a try. Theres a lot to anaylze. The owls today. Here is your offical invite. Come on down.

American football isn't a sport.

Nta, but how is it not a sport?
Is it not a sport just because you don't personally care for it?

I’m really not interested in seeing a bunch of guys chasing a breath filled ball.

But I do have to admit the culture Americans build around it seems so foreign

What’s so special about this sport?

>from an intellectual perspective sports can be very enjoyable

Please enlightened me as to how anything about watching sport is intellectual, it's for sheeple and people who need to cling on to something community driven so they can feel part of something and have an identity.

It's wilful mediocrity.

The tribalism aspect is so foolish to me.

I hate seeing all the "'we' wons!" and bullshit like that from people who sat on a chair stuffing their faces with wings, beer, and chips. The people who 'won' were the people actually playing on the field, not a bunch of fools sitting on the bench or yelling at their televisions.
Then when "they" win, they trash the city or get wasted to celebrate the collective victory.
When their team loses, they actually blame the team instead of taking responsibility for that as well lol.

I really don't get it.

on top of that, the vast majority of the time the team was neither born in nor lives anywhere near the location that the team represents. and players switch teams all the time. why would someone from a certain city feel a connection to this team of random athletes picked from across the country, coached by someone who may not have even visited your city? and even if they all were from the city, who cares?

You pretty much described why most people are drawn to sports. Feeling a sense of identity in a team, and feeling like they are apart of a team. The team mentality lets you think as a component of a group which is less taxing by volumes than thinking independantly all the time.

When you go out in public for example, you may not realize it but every time you step outside you are participating in the massive groupthink that allows us to work together and live around eachother. You view things through the lens of the group rather than explicity from your own perspective.

I find it funny when intellectuals express their dislike of sports as if it means they are somehow aware of something everyone else isn’t. On the contrary, I think it displays a fundamental lack of understanding about how humans operate. Trying to describe the thrill of sport and team dynamics in esoterics is like to describe why sex feels good with mathematics.

I think this is why I can tolerate college football over the NFL. If you graduated from a certain school, it's easier to enjoy watching a game or feel a sense of pride if that makes sense. That being said, I don't really care much about football, but I can understand rooting for your alma mater over rooting for old guys who are just in it for money.

Yeah I only watch sports that benefit me. Analyzing fights so I can get better at fighting. I'll never understand watching a sport you don't participate in yourself.
