Whole other anon, I hate (or dislike) them too. They're actually based on another artist's style from the 70s, I follow a French guy on Twitter and he retweeted a vintage magazine cover with the exact same colors, style, even the smiles. But it was a cute picture.

For the second comic, there's not much translation needed. It's just a sound effect/background noise effect.

In Granblue Fantasy, you can change the sex of the protagonist. One of the characters, Cagliostro, is a thousand year old alchemist/mage that has changed himself into the body of a young blonde girl. He's shocked at seeing the protag do it easily/switching back and forth.

Wait what? I used to follow Hard/Clay (the artist in question) when he was still making Sexy Losers in the early 2000's and absolutely loved his work, he was one of my biggest inspirations. Then he disappeared for some time and like almost a decade later I found out about his Tumblr where he opens up about his depression and draws these Depression Comix strips. DC is fucking brilliant for how it depicts depressed life and thinking how it is for many people, and not some aspirational tumblr bullshit.
And no, Clay does not ~glorify~ it just because his comics show people struggling and not just beating the depression with meds and therapy like it's that easy. He has many characters that represent different shades of living with devastating mental illness. They are not meant to be role models, but honest depictions.

While it's true that you can't expect a relationship to fix you and your illness, for many people this means that nobody will ever love them, so why try? It can be very hurtful when you have no-one and need support to hear this. Soneone depressed might get from it "I'm unworthy thrash that does not deserve love, in contrary to all the healthy people". Especially when you see people with clear issues or even being less than perfect to their significant others being loved. It's always "everyone deserves to be loved/not alone" till the person has self-esteem issues. Then suddenly they should fix themselves before loving anyone. Sad thing that life does not work like this. It's extremely hard to get better without support system. If someone's low self-esteem partially stems from social rejection (being bullied for years and so), it can be incredibly freeing and helpful to finally see that it's not true and that you are worthy of love. Being in a loving relationship can make life so much better and help with some side-effects of depression (like isollation).

What I'm getting at is while you have to work hard to fight your self-esteem issues and depression, it does not mean that you cannot love and be loved.
Though I can see how it might be impossible for the worst cases of low self-esteem connected with self-obsession that stops the person from shutting up about their perceived flaws and focusing on the lover. lol

As a side-note, I never really understood how you can love yourself in the same way as others. Acceptance is a much better term in my eyes, but maybe I have not reached the "love" level yet? I know what I am and I am on my side, I am kind to myself, but I do not love myself like I love my boyfriend, family or dogs. Someone please explain?

Showing a problem might make someone feel less lonely and face their issue. Also it's a depiction of one of many ways that depression might affect some. Dunno what's cringe about that. I think you are projecting your feelings about goth chick's thinking on the whole comic.
The goth girl does not represent the artist I think, as he draws characters representing different demographics. Off top of my head, there's the handsome, but lonely gay man, the girl whose SO killed himself after she broke up with him, the lesbian couple were one is a self-harmer etc.

I find it interesting that some people dislike the comics (or find them 'cringe') for the reason I love them: for portraying depression in all it's ugly glory.
They are not meant to be inspirational or empowering, just showing different experiences. Maybe you need to read more of them to see that.

Not all of depression comix are bad,but they seem to portray depression as something that can't be changed.The "depression is my personality" thing is pretty ridiculous.I've felt shitty during depression and that I would never get out of it and hated myself(as shown in the comics)but I didn't present it like those do.They seem to show that there is no hope(the ones I checked out anyway)and a pessimistic mood overall

a good depiction of depression is allie brosh's depression comics(not short but really good and relatable ones).It's good not only for depressed people but also for the non depressed ones around them to help them empathise and understand what they go though to an extend

depression comix has a lot of Relatable Material but it's also just shows people….wallowing, forever, without any bursts of fun or happiness (which most depressed people experience at least on occasion). Idk, just reminds me of my shitty ex who refused to ever get help and was a huge fucking burden to everyone around him because he was exactly like this, never got out of bed, non-compliant with therapy and meds, etc. These comics are like a guide on how to lose your friends and make your family resent you.

You're making me wonder about this now, hah. I think it's different for everyone and what brings you the most comfort. I think "acceptance" is a pretty good way to view oneself, maybe even liking, because it leaves room to have those parts of yourself that you don't care for or need improvement. I also see "loving yourself" as almost narcissistic and maybe in line with thinking "I'm fine the way I am," even though that can be far from true. Met plenty of people who follow that mindset and it's really just a cover/delusion for their glaring faults.

This is simply my perception of it, at least.

I can't relate to Allie's comics because I have had depression for my entire life. It's my "normal", I never noticed anything was wrong or missing because I've never had it. I think it's pretty shitty to paint my experience (that is definitely shared by many other people) as "pathetic".

This. I'm sick of people shitting on mentally ill people that are not perfect sufferers that got better. I like the Allie comic (it's cute and funny) but don't relate to it as much as to various DC.
I am better than I was a year before, and yet I can see both past and current version of myself in those strips. I am not just my depression (which is mostly kept under wraps currently), but I have had many ugly symptoms. Some are still affecting me. I hate the tone policying, that you can only talk about symptoms of depression that are not "cringey" or "pathetic" in some random anon's eyes. Either you are a good sufferer that got depression and healed perfectly or you should not be talking about your experiences.
