You all native english speakers will never know how frustrating it is to have parents in this age of Internet and globalization who can't read a single word in English. They are incapable of understanding 50% of the current world around them simply because of language barrier, but they still insist on using computers, Internet, going on international travels, discussing international politics and so on. I try no to blame them, I know that this change happened too fast and that they didn't need this to be successful in their days, but they are retired now, they should at least try.

My parents aren't Baby boomers, they are Gen X (and pretty in touch). I'm in my early 20s and they also had me in their 20s.
Are there any other Millenials here with younger parents? I feel like people always associate our generation with having older parents and I'm one of the few who doesn't.

vinyl is the superior format and always will be. idk about cassettes though. never met an older person who still shills cassettes, it seems more like something vaporwavefags on bandcamp collect for the aesthetic.

>his car breaks down so he has to get a new one

my boyfriend's dad is the most boomery boomer that ever boomered and he always salvages and tries to fix whatever he can, because his parents grew up during the depression and war and taught him to be this way. your dad would give him a heart attack lol.

I'm 19 and my parents aren't even 40 yet (they had me as teens). They're still super out of touch though. I feel like I have to teach them how to use their phones every time they get a new one

My parents are also generation x. They were never interested in technology but at least they bought me anything I wanted; computer, smartphone, game consoles whatever. Now they own their own computers and phones and it is a mess. I never had any problems with malware, viruses and scams but my parents are so damn naive with a tattoo on their forehead "please take my money teehee". That's very disrespectful to say but it happens all the time although I offer them help 24/7. My parents always rant at me that I shouldn't treat them like kids but the truth is the internet is a paradise for shady people. Millennials and Gen Y are much smarter and sceptical in relation to the digital world.

>dad replaced the old pc with a pre-owned already outdated one when I was in high school
>blamed me whenever this electronic piece of garbage freezed or the loading took too long
>didn't let mom use it because "she'll break everything"
>I taught mom how to use it, she turned out to be a fast learner
>dad got annoyed that she uses his pc, freaked out and she didn't touch it anymore
>the day when I graduated and got my own laptop is the best day of my life
>meanwhile dad calls his friends to ask about every single problem
>I know how to solve all his problems but he never asks me
>mom gets a tablet and happily uses it on her own without my help
>dad finally annoyed the fuck out of his friends and now asks me for help
>advise him to get a new pc
>he ignores my advice and gets a pre-owned already outdated laptop
>wonders why nothing is working properly
>have already come to terms with my daddy issues
>don't crave for his validation
>don't care anymore

my mom parties like it's still 1975. She basically grows a shitton of weed, has drug parties every weekend. I went to one party and got a violent migraine from the weed stench and didn't go to another. On her birthday (which ironically, is 4/20) she asked me if I wanted to drop acid with her.

She knows I don't do drugs. I wonder if she knows that she is the reason why I don't do drugs.

tl;dr- mom is a walking anti-drug PSA and its a fucking miracle she has lived to be in her 60s

I typed out how my parents are out of touch regarding education, employment, and housing but I deleted it because I wasn't sure if this thread was meant for wholesome aloof old people stories. Not for my frustration and resentful feelings.

Not the same anon but I think it would be awkward to party like that with your mom. I mean with friends sure. I think a parent should try to hide that stuff from there kid out of respect and vice versa.

this. recently we went on a cruise for a family vacation and it was so so stressful i had to be with them 24/7 in case they needed something and if i had to leave them alone for one hour or two for whatever reason i would feel so guilty and start worrying

also i hate when my dad asks me to help him out with his iphone because he never understands it and gets super mad at me even though i try to explain it very slowly and clearly

actually my mother is an addict and had neglected me so badly as a child that she actually lost custody, and it's pretty hard for a mother to lose biological custody of a child NOW, much less in the early 90's. My father could not raise me because he was also a drug addict, and had a terminal illness and was unable to care for himself, much less an emotionally disturbed child.

Also she has a criminal record for possession, dealing, and driving under the influence so it's not like she has a long-standing record of being able to use drugs in moderation and responsibly. she is mentally 16 and when it was "fun" when i was a teenger, now that I'm nearly 30- it's not fun anymore. maybe i was downplaying it in my post but seriously she's not cool at all it's sad and destructive.

No. 271503

>>271498
Imo, a record for possession isn't a big deal, but the rest is terrible. The problem is that she's too immature and irresponsible to handle her drugs. What's she addicted to?

“Dress up nicely and take your resume in and ask to give it to the manager”
Yes MIL because making it look like I don’t know how the current job market works will impress them so much.
It’s not laziness or a lack of initiative to apply online, it’s what the employers want. You haven’t applied for a job since before I was born ffs.

>“Dress up nicely and take your resume in and ask to give it to the manager”
LMAO. I'm the anon from upthread who wasn't sure if I should post about employment and omg my parents said the same thing when I visited them last week!

I feel like I have to lie to them anymore about how my job is going, because if I'm truthful and say how much I hate it they always say ignorant shit like that and then get pissy as if I'm shooting down their good advice when I tell them it's not realistic.
They said I should try to apply for a job in politics. Okay parents, where and how do I apply for a "job in politics?"
"Walk down to the city hall and give them your resume!"
Ah, yes. I'll walk down to the city hall that services almost a half a million people, waltz in with my nobody resume, and hand it to the first secretary I see and say "AY!! GET ME ONE OF DEM POLITICAL JERBS!"

Jesus christ.

It’s such a humiliating prospect, i cringe just thinking about it.
My field is drug rehab and I’d look more like an addict than a potential clinician if I walked into any of the social service providers asking to for the manager to come down and look at my resumé.

You don’t get a job by smiling in a damn blouse.

They also don’t seem to understand just how much nepotism and old boys clubbing there is around here. Job opportunities are something like 1 position for every four to six people and that’s not really taking ito account people new to the workforce.
They assume I just don’t want to work despite sending out about fifty resumes a month. Not just a standard resume either, there’s 8 different versions depending on which suits the position better

You weren't downplaying anything anon i understood what you meant right away when you said you don't do drugs because of her. Having a parent who is "chill about drugs" isn't always a great thing.

Does anyone get really depressed when their parents can't handle technology? I just feel so bad for them. I remember one time my mom cried because she was having a hard time with the computer and got frustrated. Seeing that tore me apart. I try to help her when I can but it does get annoying sometimes because I don't know how to teach someone something that is obvious to me. Same with my dad. He loved playing fps games on xbox and would ask me for help sometimes. Now the games have gotten too complex so he doesn't play them anymore. I wish parents could use technology better.

My mother kept telling me the same thing when I was looking for work and also got a bit offended when I didn’t take her advice. This is the same woman who, when I had a childish crush on a classmate I’d never actually spoken to in middle school, told me to write him a long love letter and put it in his locker. I learned not to take her advice a looong time ago.

My folks did the same thing to me until they both lost their jobs at varying points and then had to apply online for things when they realized they couldn't just walk into places with your resume like they could when they were younger. I still have to help my mom with her resume even though I'm on the other side of the country. At least she's better at technology than my dad, though

My mother is just as good on the computer as me, and actually considerably better at video games than me (example: Beating a game I got stuck on halfway).
A lot of it is a character thing, you have to be prepared to learn and persist in difficult tasks and maybe they aren't prepared to do that. You could get a device like an iPad for mom which is more intuitive and fun, and maybe recommend older games for your dad until he gets a better hang of it. Also there are handbooks and advice websites of how to proceed
