Discuss the pros and cons of, as well as your experience with Applebee's.

Everytime I pass by an applebees there's an ambulance outside. Swear on my life.

No. 607931

When I was a kid, Applebee's used to give me those coloring placemats and bring out crayons held in a little wooden dinosaur stand. I was a huge fan of Land Before Time and was very sentimental about the treatment of my inanimate dinosaur objects.

One day, the waitress brought over my little wooden dinosaur stuffed with crayons. To my dismay, rotten children scribbled all over him. It was a "long neck" like Littlefoot. Didn't these brats understand how ugly and lonely they made that wooden dinosaur feel with their reckless drawing?! I started to sob uncontrollably. The poor waitress didn't know what to do to console me. My mother scolded me for the fuss. The waitress took the wooden dinosaur to the back and tried in vain to wash off the scribbles but to no avail. She brought it back as tarnished as when she took it, which made me cry worse and completely put me off my placemat coloring.
Don't even remember the food I ordered cause I was too upset to eat.

0/10 experience, wouldn't eat free dinner there.

The Cheesecake Factory is absolutely disgusting and severely overpriced on top of that. If they stuck to JUST cheesecake, they'd be great, but doing all that they do cheapens them.

Also fuck Applebees. Absolutely enraged that this thread exists.

What's wrong with the food? It's a bit overpriced, I agree, but it's not bad. The actual cheesecake is the best thing there though.

I've only eaten at the restaurant itself once, but both my dish and my friend's dish were inedibley bad. I don't consider myself picky, but it was really unappetizing. My orange chicken was far too sweet and saucy, and her Cuban sandwich was garlicky(???), so it was overall unpleasant, especially after all the hype.

Our take-home cheesecake and all the cheesecakes I've gotten of their brand have been A+++ though.

No. 607949

No. 607952

bahaha this fuckin thread.

i haven't been to applebee's (or chili's) since i was a child but i do remember chili's being significantly better. i know this isn't about chili's, i just strongly associate those two w/ childhood memories. coloring on placemats, eatin some tendies. oh and all those times the waitress would come back to the table like "any dessert?" and my mom everytime would be like "no thanks" and even though i knew it was coming it always felt like such a betrayal.
i really want some mid-tier chili's/applebees type restaurant food now. the tortilla chip appetizers w/ some salsa and guac… omg. why do those hit so much harder than just buying some tositos and great value salsa? i have never been able to fully replicate the restaurant nacho experience

I worked at applebees for 2 weeks. I watched 2 waitresses break down in tears mid-shift due to management and one girl wouldn't stop telling me about her recently released from prison baby-daddy. I quit and they wouldn't pay me so I dragged them through the courts out of spite over like $300 and won kek

All the cooks that worked there were male and they refused to talk to the all-female servers because they thought it was beneath them. I stood there for 15 minutes asking for a ranch dip as I wasn't allowed to get it myself. Then I got screamed at by management for taking too long and when I pointed out the issue he shrugged. They also screamed at me for using the bathroom twice over 8 hours to change my tampon even though they denied me any breaks that shift. Never again.

How has no one mentioned half priced appetizers after 9/10PM? That was the fucking best in high school and (unfortunately) college. A whole appetizer for yourself for only $5? You seriously couldn't beat it.
Looking back I remember nachos were my thing. The portion was fucking huge, and who doesn't love nachos? I sometimes ate the whole thing in one sitting, it was fucking disgusting.

Otherwise, the food is shit. The chicken has a rubber texture with no flavor. I loved it as a kid, and now I regret making my parents go there for my special occasions lol.

RIP to the greatest Applebees menu item: The Crispy Orange Chicken Bowl.

This shit was filling as fuck, it gave you enough for at least 3 people, and ONLY $10. They did not skimp out on the chicken.

They tried to replace it with another orange chicken meal, but that one was $13 and had a dinky bed of rice, like 1/4th of an inch and like 4 pieces of chicken.

I'd like to go and eat a bunch of food with excessive caloric content and get drunk off the cheap drinks but I don't think any of my friends would even be interested

As a Southeasterner who loves barbecue I can't lie that I'm a little hurt by this comparison since Applebee's is utter garbage. Sticky Fingers specializes specifically in good southern barbecue, whereas Applebee's is just a 'classier' sit down white trash cafeteria. Maybe I'm wrong but I regard a lot of these relatively low-to-medium-end sit-down restaurant chains to be essentially the same with their extensive menus of sub-par foods that's particularly designed for the average American palate (i.e, nachos, burgers, fries, salad, tacos).
Chili's, Applebee's, TGI Fridays, and Ruby Tuesday are basically all the same to me.

No shit that the average restaurant uses sysco canned goods and frozen stuff. Most of those restaurants use those generic ingredients to make their own dishes from scratch. Most of the meals in these types of restaurants are cooked industrially, frozen, shipped to wherever they need to go, and reheat The menu items are created by marketing, food science, etc teams and manufactured centrally to be distributed and heated up across the country. With fast food that's fine because the purpose of buying fast food is to get a quick, cheap meal. With 'casual dining' chains it's shite because it tries to mimic the experience of normal hokey restaurant while serving up reheated, focus group-tested factory food that somehow tastes even worse than McD's, for local diner prices or more.

Fuck omg samefagging but I have some really good applebees stories

I saw a guy drop off a car of prostitutes in our applebees parking lot and drive off as some of them walked to the hotel across the street and the rest of them went the other way.

A family had their baby in the car seat/carrier thing on top of the table while they were eating. The family left the lid off of a bottle of Tabasco sauce. The baby picked up the Tabasco and drank it out of the bottle and started crying. The family called their waitress over and screamed at her and blamed her even though she wasn’t even at the table. she came to the kitchen to tell us what happened and couldn’t stop laughing while telling us A BABY DRANK HOTSAUCE.

I worked at a similar chain and can confirm. The dishwashers don't care and the servers will roll dirty silverware for the next shift because they also don't care. The glasses are disgusting and never cleaned right.

If you see employees eating anything, they always use paper cups and take out containers because they know how gross it is.

The guys who do this are bonafide losers for sure.
A guy who matched me on Tinder once tried to get me to drive out (~30+ minutes) to meet him at his local Applebee's. I laughed at him and told him no, but he insisted on a date. He looked muscular in pics so I was willing to give him a second shot based on attractiveness and told him to meet me at my local steakhouse chain. I didn't tell him it was only a 8 minute drive for me, teehee.

I roll up and he's a catfish. The pics on his Tinder had to have been years ago. He was hiding his balding underneath a beanie, obese, shorter than what he said on his profile, and wearing a beat up and faded hockey jersey like wtf. He spent the first 25 minutes of our date showing me texts and voice recordings of him harassing and being salty towards a drug-addicted stripper who he claimed "used him for money," when it's clear she never agreed to be the scrote's gf and was taking his money cause it was her job. Claimed she took his parent's house he was set to inherit, lol.
He orders a cheap burger at this steakhouse, and money be damned, I ordered an expensive steak cause I was gonna eat well regardless if the scrote wanted to pay. Tells me how he was fired and rehired at the local dollar store and that he'd be starting soon again. What a catch!
He wanted to flex so he paid for my dinner even though I could see how much he didn't wanna pay. I ended the date with a pity hug and vowed to never have another with him.

He pestered me a day later, this time wanting a date at his place where I could "cook for us." LMAO. I told him no.
He proceeded to sperg out and called me a gold digger cause I explained how I expect to be taken out for dates, and how I didn't want to cook in his cluttered hovel where he lived with some creepy religious nutjob. Wah wah wah.

tl;dr Applebee's men are broke! Lol @ butthurt scrotes saying how cheap dates are secretly rich and good deep down. Nah, they're classless losers.

Eurofag so I'll post what I think is my Applebee's.
It's Buffalo grill. It's ranch/native american themed (so I guess it will be canceled in the futur? Cancel culture is coming at the slow pace here) completed with a plastic totem in each parking lot.
It was my preferred place of dining when I was a child. There was coloring place mats and Indian themed toys with the children meals.
My parents must have hated me for wanting to go there for EVERY fancy occasion but at least it was cheap.
I know now it was probably very bad food and I'm tempted to go back as an adult (looks like they are still going strong) and see but I also don't want to tarnish my childhood memories.
Once, I was 8 and we got there with my aunt and younger niece. I remember being really upset because they gave us two different gifts. One was obviously sub-par : a girl gift, an "Indian" necklace and the other one, a cool boy gift : some kind of whistle.
I ended up letting my niece have the whistle because I felt deeply responsible for being the older one but damn, I wanted that whistle so bad. I still do 20 fucking years later.
