Pretty big, 110,000 m² big. 265 rooms, 46 halls, numerous baths etc. Inside is really fascinating.

Yeah, it's more like a compound really, with smaller buildings added on as time passed, additions and such.

In that way it is similar to the old palace of Constantinople, which sat more or less on the same spot as far as I'm aware.

They're far away from each other, one is in Sultanahmet other is in Besiktas. Topkapi didn't saw much use in late years of Ottomans, they usually used Beylerbeyi, Yildiz or Dolmabahce palace. Funny that all these palaces fucked their budgets up and just sped their downfall up.

Well Istanbul was not always the capital. It was Bursa first then Edirne, there are loads of early Ottoman era buildings in each city.

Ones I know is the Ishak Pasha palace in Agri, one in Damascus, Adile sultan palace, Edirne palace which has been destroyed after Ottomans detonated a munitions depot in it after fearing it would fall in to the Russian hands in war of 93, Saraj in Macedonia, Ciragan palace. There were some others too but most are destroyed and didn't make it through to our time. There are also some old Byzantium palaces.
