Have you guys heard of the dead internet theory? It has basically been going around on several other chans that basically since the time when almost all main websites and search engines are down to a few, that these mega corporations made AI. Large proportions of the supposedly human-produced content on the internet are actually generated by artificial intelligence networks in conjunction with paid secret media influencers in order to manufacture consumers for an increasing range of newly-normalised cultural products.

and? I may be misunderstanding the theory but all it means is that a large enough portion of content is ai-generated, not everything.

I truly believe that all of us on the internet are being targeted to be influenced by companies and others. who knows how many trends and memes actually come about naturally.

I agree with the premise but not really with the points in the post. The people he talked to online who disappeared were probably real and just grew out of that community so they removed their online presence, I’ve done it multiple times with old online friend groups. The increase in specific porn images is because more people globally have access to internet and are spending longer time on it so theres more porn addicts and more people making porn content. 8chan was shut down because 3 mass shootings were linked to it, if that didn’t happen it would still be up. The repeated threads on /a/ is interesting, sometimes its just people reposting bait threads but it could be bots reposting the threads. It’s common for entire threads on Reddit to be repeated by bots so they can seem authentic and then start shilling products or post in political subreddits. I think a lot of people know since 2016 that a lot of the internet is fake/astroturfed and run by bots and shills but sometimes it’s hard to remember that when you’re just casually browsing the internet.

This anon gets it. Shills and bots are real, but AI isn't even close to to the level of creating consistent online personas, undistinguishable from a human, that are all unique. Basically AIs are still failing the Turing test, afaik.
People love to fantasize AI as some kind of omnipotent godlike entity eversince the term "AI" was coined, but it's simply too far from what AIs are actually capable of.
