Back in America kek and it's more affordable. I still hope everyday that province becomes less expensive, it was a seriously beautiful place to live in terms of nearby nature. I miss going to metrotown, too. I was living there when the big fire in Alberta happened and tons of people from there were coming over to find work. I met some people who once made six figures working in the oil sands who had to resort to mall security because the fire destroyed everything for them.

Most unaffordable housing market in North America with barely any good jobs, culture or activities there to justify the prices. Actually that describes most cities in this country. Shithole Hamilton is now the 5th most unaffordable housing market in North America. You can't even escape the major cities to smaller places because Toronto WFH people already moved there and jacked up all the prices. Prices for a house in Whitehorse, Yukon jumped 100k in just 1 year. Your last chance is to move to the prairies quickly before prices rise there too or learn French and move to Quebec, otherwise you must leave Canada.

Everyone I know who moved to Canada for work got a huge slap in the face with salaries. Even if you worked 10 years at an international company at home, Canadian companies don't see that as "real experience" and you have to start your career from scratch.
To anyone thinking of emigrating, don't just compare the salary of your current job and see Canada as a first world heaven, they are hugely xenophobic and only see Canadian work experience as "real" experience.

No. 951081

This shit sets off my alarms. The ppl who quit were mostly in service and care industries (women). Who most likely quit to take care of kids. But they're trying to spin it like people are just fed up and we have duh pwr now!! Slick. They're just increasing ppls desperation by making it seem like they have options, when irl they don't and feel even more down when they can't find work. Also businesses get bailouts if they say they're hiring but don't actually hire anyone.

When I check the linkedins of the "smart kids" from high school who I knew would turn out to be successful in high-power careers, most of them already moved to the US for work. We have a bad brain drain problem here, people get educated at UofT or Waterloo for cheaper compared to the US and then move there the second they get the diploma, never contributing anything to Canadian society again because it's not worth it to them.

I dont see how anyone who attends there is any smarter because if you work hard enough its easy to get in.

No. 951417

>>951415
I knew someone would bring this up, but its so true lol In my case: I have always been pretty shit at geography, but aside from that most people ive known/been friends with in my life were similar to me in the sense that we had never been out of the province, but have traveled other places in the world.

We learn social studies, but mostly about Ontario and even in my studies, we would focus on Canada (usually main focus is Ontario and QC) or just international stuff. I can really understand why other provinces hate us tbh

No. 951420

>>951417
>but mostly about Ontario
ayrt and that actually explains a lot/is kind of fascinating to me since we never really had much local focus in our social studies and just sort of split it up across different provinces and then a bit of international. Except Nunavut, I still don't really know shit about Nunavut except that groceries cost an arm and a leg there lmao

No. 951427

>>951415
In my experience the social studies/history education wasn't that great. You mostly learn about the 2 world wars and some Quebec history if you're in the French version of the class. Very little is taught about world history, same with English class you just read books by literal whos not any important Canadian authors or classic books.

No. 951452

Wow thats shocking tbh! I thought every province probably did the same focus on themselves more, then maybe other provinces a bit if theres time lol

Thats probably why I find it so hard to imagine life in other provinces, I have only ever googled thing like "what is it like living in nova scotia?" or nunavut, etc. Nunavut apparently is just weird because of sunlight issues, like in Winter apparently its really dark and a lot of people have vitamin D deficiencies… I only heard that from some random person my family spoke to this summer and I just think I would be super depressed there so its strange to imagine

No. 951466

The Canadian anthem was at first the anthem of what is now called Québec. Also, back then, French colonisers were the ones called "Canadiens".
Why is the rest of Canada so mad about us wanting to keep our culture and laguage? Look at what happened to Louisiana, French is now barely spoken there. Even the French Canadians in other provinces have to keep fighting to keep their community alive.
We used to be considered like dogs, were segregrated and told to "speak white" and this is recent.

I mean don't get me wrong, I attended a fairly shit rural school so the quality of each little unit we covered probably wasn't very good, but it was pretty evenly spaced out geographically speaking across the country (again, except for them just forgetting about Nunavut.)

toronto has insane rent. it's more expensive than san francisco. we also have WAY stricter zoning laws than other expensive cities, which means a lot of units in those places wouldn't be legal here. food prices are also really high, and cell phones/plans are the most expensive in the world.
you have to work so hard to live in toronto that moving anywhere else (except nyc or hong kong) feels like some kind of vacation.
we're not even a real city, who tf even cars about us in the rest of the world.
i think literally every person in toronto smokes because it's the only recreation we can afford
and don't tell me we could save for a down payment on a house if we weren't all doing so much cocaine, no one's doing $30k worth of cocaine in a year, that's not the problem here.

Why is Canada as a country shilled as so uwu harmless and sweet? In the states a lot of fellow burgers especially millennials romanticize it, but I know for a fact racism is just as bad there as it is here e.g.. the "re education" centers for indigenous people, the pm doing blakcface etc. Maybe America is a little worse since I admittedly don't know very much about Canada's history, these are just things that have made headlines. Is it the socialized healthcare? No hate to Canadians I'm just curious, and I do enjoy seeing you guys in my town during hockey season and playoffs kek.

No. 951615

The racism in Canada is just a thinly veiled secret. Your average white person here talks about natives like they're another species. I don't know why no one knows about it, maybe they just don't care. (please don't ban me I'm not trying to racebait)

>>951600
PM doing blackface is hilarious only because every dumb person/liberal here forgave him in a second for that and it got swept under the rug like everything else. Even black people were out defending him kek its embarrassing having this man as a “leader”

>>951615
Okay, I dont know where you are from, but that is definitely not true in Ontario unless maybe you are from a rural area or something because everyone here is super careful about Indigenous people, like everything nowadays racism exists obviously, but I rarely hear anything against them. If anything maybe Indians or Black people just when theres a shooting…

No. 951630

I'm from the prairies. Racism here is bad, not violent American South bad mind you, but people here are pretty prejudiced. Ontario seems like it has a very sjw culture.

No. 951640

>>951630
Okay I figured! I have heard that. That is insane, its sad to hear things like that and I cant imagine life like that. Are you in Saskatchewan?

Yes its sjw central here lol My bf even has Indigenous training at work and its just about racism in general, but its the strangest thing because the course is a huge gotcha to test whether someone is racist basically. For example: he had to assign adjectives to races of groups yesterday (like clean, athletic, smart, etc) and he had to be really careful because the desired answer was to put bad traits for white people (angry, criminal) as most of bis class did and he did something similar but kept it balanced… Although its an Indigenous course, the parts about Indigenous people are also like challenging stereotypes (that are very odd) or like “what would you do?” situations where an indigenous person is being made fun of or something and you have to write how you would help and stuff. This was kinda off topic but I think its an idea of what its like here lol

No. 951658

>>951621
oh i was talking about cigarettes, but yeah a lot of the weed shops popping up are people using legalization as a chance to not work for someone else. groups of friends/people who have always been stoners using the fact that the thing they love is now a job opportunity. we don't need this many but i understand why so many people are jumping on it. working in toronto still sucks ass after the pandemic, because no one retires so you can't move up, and employers offer tragically low wages. i don't know why so many jobs in this city have such low pay.

No. 951661

For some businesses part of it is the rent is too high, that's why everything gets replaced by Rexall, Shoppers Drug Mart, Tim Hortons and A&W. Everything unique about the city is getting wiped out.
