Taylor is pathetic compared to legends like Mariah Carey and Aretha Franklin. But I do think she is extremely good at what she does, not just in terms of song writing/production but on the business side of things. She managed to move from country pop, propel herself into stardom after the Kanye thing and now she's managed to maintain relevancy and dominance into her 30s, and that's really special for someone like her who is a meh singer.

Looks like Emilie has managed to cut off the final of her long-standing friends. It's especially shocking with Veronica since they were BFFs and I think called each other soulmates when EA was still touring (don't quote me on that). They were close enough for EA to double down on Veronica being a character in the Asylum book and made her a lover of the (Mary Sue) protagonist. That's even more awkward if the musical ever becomes a thing (I don't believe that, though). Reminds me of Lady JooHee being scrubbed from the first TAFWVG, her character being renamed Sachiko and her photos with Emilie having some random face photoshopped over. Emilie must be insufferable IRL to consistently lose all deals and connections (see the sudden ending of her friendship with Bousman). I don't wish her bad, but I wonder how long Marc Senter will be able to deal with her. Hope it's not a Lori type situation.

I could write a lot about her fandom, but they certainly weren't too stupid to listen to The Birthday Massacre, The Dresden Dolls or riot grrrl (I know, The Gits weren't considered a band like this, but close enough – sadly hardly anyone remembers The Gits/Mia Zapata now). A lot of appeal was EA's ugly, raw side shown in song lyrics, forum posts and diaries. Despite many faults, her honesty about mental illness was revolutionary in times before "taking care of mental health is self-care uwu" slogans. She created a space for young women to relate to each other and be shameless about their traumas. That was something worthwhile, despite the many flaws and drama that resulted.
