I've already seen a couple that seem fake and it only opened yesterday. I bet nonas have sent in a few fake letters. They want something exciting, like the Bluey single mom list, to inspire them to donate. Remember, this is an act of conspicuous social justice, there's no fun in it if you're giving to a copypasted version of yourself. Even if the buyers remain anonymous they'll share what they bought on their social media for further asspats.
And most importantly, the enhanced verification procedures have scared off a ton of grifters, who were the ones making the most dramatic posts (aka Gwendoline Chant).
TIMs ask for sex pest outfits, TIFs ask for socks. That might be because the submissions were checked this year, I remember someone posting a sex worker TIF's wishlist from last year and it was just a bunch of dildos and shit and her description straight up said she'd be using them on OF to try to make rent. That's definitely not what a charity wants to associate with- no matter how incompetent the Transanta founders are, they've got to follow Amazon's and Instagram's ToS or get slapped with the consequences.
However, we're seeing the earliest submissions get posted first. Since TIFs are the ones doing the gifting, it makes sense that they'd watch out for Transanta updates, and therefore would send in their insipid applications before most of the grifters. Gofundme itself can't transfer her the funds in Palestine, but the organiser is based in Montreal, Canada, which is where she has research connections at McGill based on LinkedIn.** According to her Tumblr post, the position only lasted a few months before she returned to Palestine, though her LinkedIn lists it as a current position; perhaps the conflict ramping up upon her return (she says three months, so she would've gone back in the September 2023) made her put her mental efforts elsewhere quite understandably. Her Instagram page seems to show evidence of actually being in Palestine for the past year– I don't have an Instagram account so can't scroll far, but I really doubt she got into Palestine past October 2023.
**It appears that he's organising another fundraiser for a seventeen year old Palestinian boy– I think this one is legit as well, he has a clear goal for the money and is trying to get out of the country to go study. The organiser also himself has a LinkedIn, so presumably he's not a made up person either. I can't see all of his account but there are details there which I think frauds would have difficulty making up– friendly accounts, certificate history, smaller details like linguistic history (he's in Montreal and knows some French– would the international human trafficking brackets in SEA, where some of these circles are known to operate, be aware of the fact a dialect of French is spoken in Quebec?).

Most of the spam accounts don't seem to have this sort of crossplatform documentation, though in terms of spoofed accounts, I feel like LinkedIn would be the hardest to fraud. The question is why you'd fundraise on Tumblr– I think she's probably heard that it's the place to fundraise– there's a belief Tumblr is chosen because of its predominantly female userbase who are more charitable than our male counterparts. It could be that they perceive Tumblr to have worse moderation against fraud than other platforms, that users are more likely to check their inboxes than PMs on other platforms, or that they have an established culture of fundraising-slash-fraud within the userbase with mutual aid and previous conflicts (BLM, Ukraine) raising money with success.
With how much research it takes to establish that an account is real (and not just because "I said so and it's evil to question why"), you can see how people either stop caring or try to pay off their Tumblr sins with indulgences. The posts using pictures of maimed children to make their cases are the ones I really don't want to research.
tl;dr Eman Zaqout is real, presumably the accounts linked to her name are real based on documentation, and the Gofundme linked on Tumblr is the same as the one she's linking on her personal profile, meaning it's likely not a case of stolen identity.
I got swept up in the investigation and forgot a very important thing (detective's curse): how does a legitimate fundraiser still find accounts of little to no relevance on Tumblr? Is it an automated process? Can legitimate fundraisers buy automated scripts? So how can Eman Zaqout be real, but engaging in botting-esque communication?

unfortunately the tumblr part seems way less legit. the asks and associated blogs are very spammy and give an air of being automated.
the message i got from the eman account might seem normal in itself but i previously got several others from accounts with wholly different life stories that used the extremely similar scripts, the emoji, the tone, everything.
i have no hard proof but imo there's some bot activity because even obscure or inactive blogs get them. for example the account where i got eman's ask has like 20 followers and has never liked or reblogged or posted anything about palestine. you would need to go out of your way to find your way into its askbox and yet no less that three different people living in a warzone sdomehow managed to find it manually in the last couple weeks.
similarly, i tried to make a test by changing the settings on a different inactive account to allow messages from randos (when it didn't used to), no announcements about it or anything, just changing the privacy settings, and i started getting he same sad emoji gaza gofundme asks within the next couple days.
i'm sure there are legit peole running legit gofundmes but i don't think they're trawling obscure fandom tags to send asks to a niche blog that hasn't posted in a year.
the tumblr part of the operation is very weird, it looks like there's bot activity with messages and profiles that all look extremely similar. see picrel for a sample of messages i saw just from scrolling the gaza tags for a minute. these have a lot of similarities (eg the writing style and emoji use) but they all come from different accounts wuth different stories.
maybe someone has been using scripts to boost visibility for legit fundraisers but i also wouldn't put it past scammers to usurp the identity of actual struggling palestinians. eman's info isnt hard to find, it wouldn't be too hard to pass yourself off as her based kn her social media posts. i'm sure someone who can run a script to spam tumblr would also have no issue using one to grab personal details to impersonate actual palestianians using details from lsocial media.
(Also yeah iman/eman is just a different transliteration of the same name)
