each gender has its negatives and positives, but I would argue that men still have it better on average.
Being taken seriously for one. I work in STEM field and despite working more and achieving better results than others, I still get talked down to, as if I were a child. I'm not claiming I'm a genius but oh boy, they are so full of themselves.

Secondly, sexual harrasment. I can't count how many times I've been harrassed. The worst part is; I feel guilty, I feel dirty. I'd rather go in an honest 1 on 1 fight, than being handled like cattle.

I know I'm far from being the only woman that goes through this. I can't stand men but being one would make my life 80% easier.

Also, if you're not married by your mid 30s, people constantly nag you. To hell what others think, just so many idiots think their opinion matters to decide what is best for me despite not being close.

I suppose women that want to have family have it even worse, they have to take time off work to raise a kid, and oftentimes house chores are on her burden.

But at least their life doesn't end with 30 and in most cases friendship between men seems more genuine than between women.

Women are supposed to settle between age 25-35, in Eastern Europe even earlier. Only a minority is considered attractive after the age of 35.
Men on the other hand can be attractive at every age (except maybe 75 upwards.) I'm not talking about movie stars. I know many men above 45 that I'd consider hot. I also know men who weren't good looking in their 20s but became more attractive in their 30s or 40s. A 45 year old man can start a family with a 27 year old woman. The other way round though… For a 45 year old single woman it's hard to find a partner her own age. Besides social norms it's simply dangerous to start having kids at this age for women.

Sure, nobody forces me to settle in my 30s. But I just can't make myself buy into the you-go-girl-40-is-the-new-20-mentality. I don't want to become an old, lonely cat lady and I don't have enough money for egg freezing.

It's sad that every word you have written down rings true. I avoid other imageboards, because even on unrelated boards you get "women age like milk" comments, and it honestly hurts. Not so much because I fear getting old, it's just another sign that the only way you're valued as a woman is through looks. Nobody cares about your accomplishments, even other women.

also this

> But at least their life doesn't end with 30 and in most cases friendship between men seems more genuine than between women.

> But I just can't make myself buy into the you-go-girl-40-is-the-new-20-mentality.

Precisely! I find this trend ridiculous because it is even more demeaning to women. You can't fight time, no matter how much you try and you're constantly reminded that you're getting old and that being an old woman == irrelevant. I don't want to go back in time either, I don't want to be a housewife and at this point I'm almost certain I don't want to be in a relationship but all these current trends and the way our society is going, I can only see it going for worse. Women that try to look 20 years younger by dressing that way look ridiculous.

I feel we've just become the perfect consumers to boost sales for farmaceutical & cosmetical companies and nothing more. Life as a woman is horrible.

>> I don't want to be a housewife and at this point I'm almost certain I don't want to be in a relationship

I don't know if I want to get married and have kids. That's the thing. It seems like I have to decide it now otherwise the chance will be gone forever. Meanwhile my male friends are dicking around, dating and focusing on their career. They aren't in a rush because they can still decide to have a family in 10-30 years.

I mean sure, being male has its downsides.
*Standards of masculinity
*More stigma when coping with psychological issues or abuse,
*Lower life expectancy
*Being expected to provide
*Having to join the military in some countries
*Less freedom regarding fashion choices

I guess the teenage years are harder for boys than for girls but then the tables turn.

But lets compare: what are the perks of being a woman?
*People treat you politely
*You might get stuff for free
*Men are willing to help you out
*Most likely you'll find someone willing to have sex with you if you're in your prime years
*Teachers and authorities might give you a free pass

All perks I can come up with depend on looks. Once they fade, you're irrelevant.

Furthermore, the expectations society has towards women aren't exactly character building - quite the opposite. Society encourages the worst traits in women.
The expectations towards men on the other hand might me tough but at least they grow as a person when they try to live up to them.

Almost all advantages of being a man have nothing to do with looks and are way more substantial:
*Solidarity: Talented young men will come across men in higher positions who will educate and mentor them
*They never have to worry about getting pregnant, childbirth or PMS
*Usually they're able to walk into a bar alone without being harassed
*They can piss wherever they want
*They were encouraged to do math and science early in life
*Doctors, mechanics and other professionals take them seriously
*They have more time to decide whether they want kids or not

My problem exactly, but I know if I give up my career for someone, I will sacrifice my work which I love.
And good luck finding someone suitable and stable that you can count on.
I have also noticed that 2-3 years in a relationship the guy already starts taking his gf for granted. If a guy cheats it's because a man has his needs and they often blame the woman for not being good enough.

I wouldn't mind becoming a single mother, ordering a sperm online and being able to decide when to start my family provided that I'm financially stable in my early 30s. Not sure what you think of it? I don't talk about this with anyone because single mothers are targets of attacks. It's just that I'm 26 and I know that I don't really have much time to live my life like men do. There were a few articles about lot of career women opting for ordering sperm and talks about viking babies for example.

These two so much:
> Furthermore, the expectations society has towards women aren't exactly character building - quite the opposite. Society encourages the worst traits in women.

Indeed. I don't see it changing, regardless of all the social campaigns or whatever they're called nowadays. You're expected to be bubbly, talkative, friendly and in a way stupid.

> The expectations towards men on the other hand might me tough but at least they grow as a person when they try to live up to them.

My blood boils when men think that just because you get attention when you're young, that being a woman is great. Really, the only negative about being a man I can think of is being drafted. But as a woman, it's not like you're spared from being tortured and raped either.

Sometimes I have this urge to just get a small plot of land and live on my own independently far from everyone else. I'd like to have a family but then I'm not sure it's the brightest idea anymore. I love my work but something tells me I'll never be considered a pro. If you work hard as a woman and manage to climb the ladder too quickly everyone assumes that you're whoring yourself or they allowed it for the sake of company image. People sometimes make jokes about it but if I were a man noone would dare to even think of such jokes.

In fact the development goes in the opposite direction. Instead of women striving for the same traits men are expected to develop - like self-reliance, courage, self-responsibility and so on - men suddenly start to envy women. Take incels for example. They're fighting for their right to be self-entitled whiny little bitches. I don't understand why they envy women for being spoiled and showered in superficial praise. They should pity them instead.

>>If you work hard as a woman and manage to climb the ladder too quickly everyone assumes that you're whoring yourself or they allowed it for the sake of company image

Exactly. Every time a man offers me a job or compliments my work I'm scared it's only because I'm a woman. Female superiors are worse, though. Even in the highest ranks they see every female employee as a threat. Or at least that's my experience in competitive fields. It might be different in other areas. I always envy my male friends who have a father-like relationship with their boss and know he has their back.

I hate imageboard autists for thinking that anyone with a bit of a brain would enjoy life as a woman. If you show audacity, initiative and anything that's considered a masculine trait, it's looked down upon. I have met women that take advantage of that, they're ok persons when you talk to them and in a way I think a lot of them play the role of an airhead bimbo even though they're far from that just because it's the easiest thing to do. Women are restricted to very few roles and all of them suck. And in fact, I think a lot of men would still prefer such type over any other.

> Exactly. Every time a man offers me a job or compliments my work I'm scared it's only because I'm a woman.

This. It's my biggest insecurity. I suppose you work in a male dominated field too? I always worry that they lower their standards just because of my gender. I also don't want to have a special treatment in any way. The moment that happens, I resign.

> Female superiors are worse, though. Even in the highest ranks they see every female employee as a threat.

Ha, I still have nightmares from my first student job and my very first boss. I never had any female bosses afterwards, but she left such scars that the year after I moved away partly so I don't have to bump into her anymore.

> I always envy my male friends who have a father-like relationship with their boss and know he has their back.

Yeah, I envy male camaraderie too. Not just in workplace. I'll go in a pop science direction and theorize it goes from the cavemen era when men hunted together and developed team spirit while women were mostly looking after kids? I don't know why there's such a huge difference between male and female friendships.

>Really, the only negative about being a man I can think of is being draft

- 80% of the homeless are male.
- 80% of people who commit suicide are male.

Why is this? If you are on a sinking ship, they tell women and children to get on first. The woman's life has more value than a man's. A woman is valued by default in society just for being a woman, she doesn't have to work to achieve anything, there is more than enough men who will take care of all your needs just because you're a female.

This mentality isn't just found on sinking ships, it's found everywhere in society.

A man by default has no value, if a man achieves (or wasn't born into) no financial/social status in society, he is worthless, and there is no societal safety net to save him. No one will be nice to him, no one will stop him from being homeless, no girl will ever fuck him. It is a cold hard lonely life with not even close to the amount of support a female would get.

You complain about how people only value women based on looks? Well men are only valued based on their financial/social status, which is infinitely harder. Outside of very rare exceptions (severe deformities/diseases, etc.) literally all a female has to do is not be fat, practice basic hygiene, and she can cruise through life.

Your complaints about being a woman are a joke, there's some legit things like females never being able to experience true friendship as men can, but compared to what men have to deal with it's nothing.

You're wishing you were high status men, the top 20% of men, in reality if you born male you would probably be the bottom 80% of men, the /r9k/ losers that you hate.

I think it sucks to not be valued as either gender, honestly. To only be valued for your looks and nothing else as a woman. If you're a man, society judges if you're an acceptable meal ticket and also judges your appearance as well. This is extreme black and white thinking but it's kind of the sad reality honestly. You just have to find the most value in yourself and maybe also try for a partner that genuinely loves you?

>>You may have convinced [women] that littleness and weakness are the very essence of beauty; and that the Supreme Being, in giving women beauty in the most supereminent degree, seemed to command them, by the powerful voice of Nature, not to cultivate the moral virtues that might chance to excite respect, and interfere with the pleasing sensations they were created to inspire. Thus confining truth, fortitude, and humanity, within the rigid pale of manly morals, they might justly argue, that to be loved, woman's high end and great distinction! they should 'learn to lisp, to totter in their walk, and nick-name God's creatures.' Never, they might repeat after you, was any man, much less a woman, rendered amiable by the force of those exalted qualities, fortitude, justice, wisdom, and truth; and thus forewarned of the sacrifice they must make to those austere, unnatural virtues, they would be authorised to turn all their attention to their persons, systematically neglecting morals to secure beauty.
