What do you anons think about all the ridiclious Raymond hype? I think he is very much overrated and there are many better (and unique) cat villagers than him. I personally would rather have Ankha and Felicity rather than having him around. Ironically enough he is my first ever campsiter, but I still don't care about him. Even got Bob from island hunting and developed a soft spot for him.

Out of all the new villagers, I really want Audie. Or any wolf/dog villager, but damn I love Audie, she’s so cute. I’ve basically resigned myself from searching for specific villagers when it’s time to replace one, I usually just go for a specific personality type (that isn’t an animal I already have) just to have variety on my island. I’ll probably have to trade for Audie, but I don’t want to deal with the hassle, so whatever lol.

No. 89283
>>89276wait…why did they ever reduce the number of villagers? I think an ideal system would be a "natural cap" at 10 (like how in NL at any given time you will end up with 10 villagers as the game always replaces them if you go below that) and then the option to have 5 more on your island, and the extra ones have no bearing on your island rating etc.
Maybe even as a reward for players who have had a 5 star for a while. If they can do 15 in the gamecube version, surely the switch can handle 5 more.

No. 89587
>>89353Really? the people I've seen salty over duplication glitches all have
valid reasons to be: most notability that it blows up the NH economy. Now people can ask for insanely high prices for villager or item trades, for selling spare diy recipes, for hybrid flowers or even just to catalogue items. It happened each time a new dup glitch was found and abused, and it always takes a good few weeks for those prices to drop to anything reasonable a player who hasn't duped can afford. Sure, they could just ignore it, but it's very difficult to convince people to lower prices to something 'fair' when their mates have sold a western stone diy for 100 NMTs. It basically ruins online trading in communities, so it's not a case of dupers doing this in isolation to their island, it's a case of them fucking up online trading prices for a lot of players.
No. 89601
>>89587In the context of trading, you brought up some good points. I think the thing is that people who dupe stuff still make up a minority and given how huge the playerbase is now, I can’t say for sure if they will really make a noticeable dent. Anyway, Nintendo is fully aware of the glitch and it will probably patched very soon. It’s just a matter of when.

I agree that her design doesn't make sense, I guess she's supposed to look like a galaxy/northern lights? But her name doesn't really suggest that. If the name Aurora wasn't already being used it would be better, or something else sky/space related.

This might be patched in the future so they get their real homes, it's hard to say. I don't know if I could stand letting one go, getting them to move back via an island tour and having it be a clean slate. Rather just get someone else in that case.

Rory decided to move to my island after my friend kicked him out. Another unvanted villager left just last week. I need some things to get off my chest. While I already spend a good amount of time with this game because I like it enough to return to it for a good while each day, I feel like you are very limited and some things are super annoying.
I'm currently in the "decoration phase" of my island after surviving the terraforming hell and I feel like you don't really have a lot of stuff you can put on your island. Idk why but despise more options, you are really stuck and I feel like I end up using the same items over and over again because there isn't much variation to begin with. I already posted about this but the absolute lack of different furniture series is the absolute worst. While I wanted to go with the forest type of island since the beginning, I kind don't have much to do something like this. Like yeah, you have plants with different colored flowerpots, but why not adding MORE different type of plants or idk other decoration stuff. And then it's a pain in the ass to get all DIYs and you can only order 5 items from the nookshop, like why not more? I get that they want you to craft more but how can I craft more when the most needed materials like wood are super rare? And some shit can't be crafted but I would like to have more of it than five pieces? I also know that the answer here is trading but fuck, you end up doing everything else than actually spending time with your island, which is already super time consuming, especially when you have to work and have a life outside of this game. I know this is super whiny but ugh I can't help but feel a bit frustrated at times.
Another thing is: I still do not understand the fact that there is only ONE type of street light? In NL we had some many different ones, which helped you when you wanted to go with a special theme for your town. Now I feel like so many other people have similar islands like me because we only have that bit of stuff to create with AND NO I do not want different colors ffs lol
And the last thing: Why isn't it there separated storage units for materials, furniture and clothes? I do hoard lots of clothes in AC, so you can imagine that most of my storage is full with clothes and materials have to lie around on my island like it is a huge garage sale idk where to put it lmao

>>95833I honestly do not use the wands tbh
Another thing I forgot to add is the fact that you are limited when it comes to expand your house. Like in NL I could choose which room needed to be bigger or add rooms/basement/attic as I pleased.

The first days are the best spend with collecting as much stuff and materials as possible. Get so many nookmiles as you can, pay off your house with them and collect everything you can get. You will need all of this to make later much faster progress because you'll get DIY's that need a lot of materials. >>96138Dream codes in NL made themed islands a bit easier since you could lock it to a certain time/weather pattern. Plus once you were happy with it you could just save the code and do something different with your town. I feel like there's less incentive to do things like horror islands because you have to invite people in order for them to see it. Just posting pics/video doesn't really have the same appeal as exploring for yourself, and any items/clothing have to be replaced manually each visit whereas dream codes always reset to the same point.
That said, I'm sure there'll be a lot more horror islands popping up as halloween rolls around. Sucks that pocket camp gets way cooler stuff though, you'd think they'd have ported it into NH.

Someone needs to hold my hand right now because I feel like I'm in the situation that I feared the most about playing animal crossing NH. Despise being super careful with my switch since release day, I've had one clumsy moment on sunday where my switch a fell from the lil switch stand that I have. Nothing big but enough to mess up switch until the point that I couldn't start ANY game. After restarting the console a few times and maybe a few times more the game itself, I was able to play it again. One time it crashed but it worked. Now I guess that this lil fall caused some sort of damage within the switch, which of course would be a case to send it to repair. BUT as well all know here is that AC it the game that WON'T let you transfer or use the cloud save. They said it would be released later the year, but how much later are we talking about? It's been almost three months (damn, time flies) since it was released but nothing on that matter was mentioned ever since. I'm currently nearing 200 hours in that game and finally at the point where is see progress and I just scored my fave villager yesterday but it could be lost as soon I want to get my switch fixed. I'm so angry right now that they provide us player absolute NO security in that game, especially in the franchise that is that time consuming. Now I can only pray that my switch will make it until the provide the promised cloud save, but why not since day one??? I'm just … UGH you feel me? Any anons who have/had a similar experience?

No. 96268
>>96241I'm the anon who complained about this problem yesterday and I researched why there no cloud save option and the main reason is:"due to cheating and duplication concerns".
I also came across this interview where Nogami mentions this:
>So right now we're trying to give users two types of function. The first thing is, when the users lose or break their Switch, then we will provide a backup save data that was saved on the server. And then the second one is when the user buys a new Nintendo Switch, then we will transfer that account for them. For the data transfer for new Switch purchases, there are two ways. The first one is to transfer the entire island data onto the new Switch. And then the second method is to extract one of the players that are living on the island, and extract that player's save data onto the new Switch hardware. In your case, since you have two Switches, it's basically considered that you have two separate islands and two separate save data on each of the Switch that you own.Full thing here:
https://www.cnet.com/news/youre-not-crazy-tom-nook-is-nicer-in-animal-crossing-new-horizons/So in the first sentence he mentions "backup save data" when you loose or break your switch, which of course will only happen when you get Nintendo Online, but what he does not mention is the fact that you can only recover your island ONE time. So if it happens a second time to you, well then it's def game over for your game.

Just reading about all the ways Nintendo has dicked people over in NH further encourages me to hack the game, ban risk be damned. Back in the day I used to hack NL on my 2DS, but hacking has become considerably more risky.
Basically Nintendo has flagged Homebrew (the jailbreak people typically use to download save editors) as piracy software and is banhammering any systems it detects it on. So, you either have to either buy a burner console, or install a bunch of shit on your prime console and avoid going online as much as possible.
That autist on Twitter giving shitloads of free Raymonds away inspired me, though. Once I figure out a way to do save edits on NH without high risk of a ban, I'm immediately going to exploit it to give people free shit. I've got a friend IRL who's working on the same thing. Fuck the system, fuck capitalism, and fuck the grind.

There truly came a point where, since I no longer had to grind anymore, I didn’t give a shit for selling rare or high value diys or items for money. Of course, I’m not everyone, but I enjoy being a part of the community that just wants to help people out by freely being able to give new players lots of bells or NMTs. There’s really no easy way to grind for bells in this game, and if I didn’t have the time that quarantine afforded me or exploits to help me, I’d definitely still be stuck in the unenjoyable grind of the game. The only thing I’ve earned fair and square is my 300k miles, and that’s mostly from grinding through god knows how many fucking + tasks each day. >>96717Start small. Think of an area you'd like, maybe a flower garden or a fruit orchard, or even a little public beach with towels, chairs and so on. Things like this won't require you to move buildings and wait (if you don't time travel) for the result.
You'll probably get new ideas while you're working on your project, and that's a good way to advance if you feel like it.
Even the small stuff seems stupidly intimidating at first but you'll really be happier with your island once you get started.

>>96717As the other anon said, start small. I started with a main street, from there I planned out every other part of the island. Make a sketch with a rough idea how things will look like, maybe write down some key-words for what kind of theme you are going. Make small steps, work on lil areas one by one than all it once because it will overwhelm you real quick. You will get more ideas the more you work on your island. You will see what works or what may look even better than you originally planned. I know it will look ugly for a while but at some point you will get over this and you will just know what to do with your island.

Barely any furniture sets, less frequent fishing tourneys/bug-offs, no consistent redd, old NPCs being booted for new ones, the annoying online community, boring villagers. This game feels like it took 5 steps forward then 10 steps back.
Calling AC “nintendo’s version of the sims” used to feel like a description made by people who hadn’t actually played the games or understood them, but NH kind of feels that way to me. Holding out hope for some good updates, even though I am against that sort of practice

>>99135Yeah me too. I can’t exactly pinpoint it but I think I liked the old ones way better because
- I didn’t have access to internet when the first one came out so I never got spoiled with anything, I always discovered new cool things by myself. Now with everyone TTing to the max and trading, I just feel like I’ve seen everything (though I’m not salty about how other people play)
- I feel like the game came with less things than even the very first game, and sure they’re adding more content but it feels very empty? Especially the characters’ dialogues and personalities.
- Old mechanics have been recycled so much that there’s no wonder or excitement, Like there’s still Gulliver, letters from mom, snowmen in winter. Even the islands doesn’t feel like a new upgrade, I really don’t get the appeal of it since it offers no new ressources and they nerfed the Scorpio and tarantulas appearance rate. I have a shit ton of Nook Miles cause I’m done buying all the stuff you can order and never bother with the islands.

Why would I bust my ass trying to work with NH's shitty tile-based placement tools when The Sims 4 lets me make cute environments with ease? If it's gonna scratch the decoration itch then it needs to catch up in UI.
Even worse is if you're in it for the cute villagers. It's true that they have new animations that make them feel more alive when observed but when you go up to them and speak, that illusion is immediately broken. Also, if you spent about a month playing even those "neat little details" in their daily lives get samey. They should have done more work on making villagers feel alive.
Overall it's a pleasant, pretty, but extremely flawed game. Even as a kid I wouldn't have put up with it when there are games that offer these social or building elements in a more polished way.

Side note rant, but man the continuous updates are a blessing and a little bit of a curse. Because people are constantly expecting more, there is a loud minority in the community that is constantly whining "We're bored! Incomplete game! Fix our burnout!" every time an update comes out. Damn, it's not Nintendo's fault that you've been inside all day playing since March and "ran out of things to do" quickly. I even saw someone claim that it would take Nintendo "less than a day" to fix the things people are asking for, like more design slots. I sound like an AC boomer when I say this, but did new players really not look at all into the slower pacing of the games and decide that it might not suit their tastes?

It also made me wonder what those people do who finished their island in like three days. I remember a few days after release day, I cam across the first whole finished five star islands. Like, why? I do not judge time travelling or so but why rushing it so much? Sometimes I do get a big jealous when I see what kind of stuff they get in pocket camp but at the end of the day it's just a game to waste a bit of time.

did any of y'all play the happy home designer game that came out for 3DS? i mention it because it was the last animal crossing game i played before new horizons (couldn't get into pocket camp), and because of that my expectations were too high. going from a game that had SO many options for furniture, wall/floor, wall and ceiling decorations, and color customization, to new horizons… i kinda felt ripped off. don't get me wrong, i love all the things that make new horizons unique and fun, like crafting and island designing, but i agree the catalogue is severely lacking. even items i originally thought should go, i'm currently missing (my island is city themed– where are the hydrants, road signs, construction equipment?). the sleek and modern series are probably the ones i miss most though, besides all the houseplants and flowers.

>>109259I probably played Happy Home Designer almost as much as I played New Leaf. It was the perfect spin-off. I just cannot understand why New Horizons is lacking so much furniture when even New Leaf was able to get some of the HHD extras YEARS after its release.
I feel really let down by New Horizons because you can do all of this customization but they barely give you enough to make the most of it. At the very least, shouldn't they have kept the sets that have been available since the first Animal Crossing? People have favorite sets the same way they favorite villagers. They put effort into making items that (usually) make sense to be craftable, but who asked for 50 different variations of rocks. I don't want my house to look like a fucking caveman hut, Nintendo.

My first AC game was New Leaf, which I borrowed from my cousin (who subsequently just let me keep the game because she saw how much I loved it). In the end I never fully decked out our town (did almost none of the public works projects) and only got to place with a friend once or twice many years after getting the game (when I got it the initial hype died down), but I still fucking loved it. I had no idea that certain villagers were popular and highly sought after- I made a character on my cousin's already existing town and just befriended everyone already living there. I don't know if the dialogue was just really better, or if not having my brain tainted and having preference for certain villagers just made it significantly easier to become attached to whoever lived in this town. I got my ultimate fav (Colton) in my NH island, but man… if I didn't have faves from NL, I'd go for all the basic bitch popular villagers like everyone else because at the end of the day, there's no charm to them like there was in NL to me.
Sorry about my sperging lmao. I was really into NH when it came out because of quarantine, got that ~*~burnout~*~ and just haven't really felt like picking it up since. The biggest slap in the face was one villager asking me for a bug I could not get on the first day because it takes a few in-game days for Kapp'n to show up.
It's much more fully featured than NH though. If you have the time to play it without feeling like you're missing out, go for it. I miss some of the dumber old features like a Main Street. Any anons who dealt with a flower infestation, how did you cope? Thanks to snowfall and lethargy, my island is at least 85% floral now. Barely anywhere for balloons to land. The only fruits I can harvest are coconuts.
The basic "put on music, craft 10 shovels, drop trash can, dig and toss" routine works well most of the year but they're coming back so quickly in winter. It's hours of digging. What is my life.

how have you guys built around your resident services? i flattened my whole island ages ago, and while most of it is coming together fine, i've been losing my marbles over the plaza area for literal months now. i get so stressed out trying to do anything with it to the point where it makes me not want to play the game. the issue isn't even that i'm too close to the entrance - i literally just cannot make it look good at all, and i hate the position because it's so weirdly close to the beach but it has too much space to leave it mostly empty. tldr ahhhh!!!
in other news, i let lily move out and i was pretty sad because she was one of my oldest villagers, but i only spent 8 NMT to find ellie to replace her! i was looking for ellie or poppy and i'm super happy, she's so cute!

Have you considered a little sitting area with benches and a flower garden next to the plaza? I find if you position the benches as close as possible to the brick to where they face the plaza, my villagers just waddle over and sit down very often. Or they'll water the flowers to the point that they become an epidemic. There are ways to make it cute without it becoming a huge project.

my issue is more with the back and the sides of RS - i tried to build cliffs around the back but it looks both too busy and too unfinished. there's no space on the left side because it's too close to the beach for any real detail, and it's too open on the right side so i have no idea what to put there. it's driving me craaaaaazy, and every map i've seen has a different RS than me so i can't even make it easy and just copy off somebody else.
tbh i regret my map choice more than anything ever but i was a day 1 player and raymond was my first camper so i can't bring myself to resethere's a pic of my OG map for reference - there's only half an acre between the beach and the left hand side of RS. i got rid of the river though!

also, tip for anyone who wants the cards but doesn’t want to fight against a bunch of scalpers and normies for them at walmart or whatever - just buy fakes on ebay/etsy/aliexpress. they’re cheaper and sometimes you can even get mock-ups of the physical cards that look 100% legit and work perfectly - that’s what i did a few years ago when they first came out, and my cards are still perfect. just buying the AFC tags ends up cheaper a lot of the time, but it might not scratch that itch for you that owning the cards does! just make sure the printing looks good and you’re good to go.

Anons hold me….I spent $40 on the Sanrio amiibo cards and a couple villagers for my partner and got completely scammed. I bought them on Etsy and after a week of them not being shipped I went to check on the order only to find the seller had completely closed up shop (how Etsy lets sellers do this is beyond me.) I was absolutely seeing red and found the seller's email and with a little searching online found out this Etsy store was run by a couple who had been arrested multiple times for various kinds of fraud, including getting money from seniors posing as direct TV salesmen and writing false checks for a charity event to sing on stage with the band Chicago.
I feel like such a fucking idiot even though I couldn't have known better beforehand. I've never had issues like this with Etsy before so I never thought to be so vigilant of what you're buying, and I've used Etsy for close to 10 years now. I'm trying to get my money back from paypal and I'm sure that'll be just fine but my soul is just not okay I was so hyped about these sanrio items and the villagers just ugh….I hate people sometimes
TL;DR- Be wary of where you're getting your amiibo cards, there are quite literally hardened criminals trying to make a buck off of Animal Crossing now also sorry if anyone saw the post I briefly had up in /ot/, I was so fucking mad when I first put 2+2 together I wrote it without really thinking

>>140676I started my NL town so long ago I forgot there was a choice of maps! Just remember that you can’t move Retail, the Town Hall or your town tree. The town tree becomes a big feature in your town so if you want to decorate that location could be important. Also Retail is where you’ll sell most of your items instead of the nook shop afaik so consider whether you’ll be running back and forth from the beach or your house(whose location you choose). And you’ll have a couple buildings you can place, so you could take that into consideration too. The beaches in NL are below cliffs, unlike WW where they’re at the same level as the rest of the town (just thought I would mention that).
In terms of earning money, as soon as you can start going to tortimer’s island the best method is to go at late hours (after 11pm) and catch the bugs on the palm trees, and sell them all back at your island. It takes a while but it’s a big payoff.

>>164617I hope if they introduce the store updates they keep the small town/rustic aesthetic to the buildings because I don't want it to ruin my town's vibe kek
I'm so excited for the updates, the free ones alone feel like an entire new game. Yes, they should've had this all ready for release day, but better late than never.
The DLC I'm so happy it's so cheap, I was watching the live orchestrating how and when I could afford to buy it because I was sure it was gonna be +50€ considering the amount of new content and furniture we were getting, so when I saw it was only 25€ I was so happy. I was about to start remodeling my island but I'm gonna wait until we get the new build mode.

>>164977Do you
really want the cards or is emulating amiibos via phone app good enough? If it is just look that up, there's plenty of guides.

>>165499I actually sold my switch earlier this year since I didn't use it. I'm planning to buy a switch lite once the new update is out, so yes I'll be starting a new island. I want to see the datamine first and see exactly what new items are in the game before buying my switch lite.
are you thinking of restarting your island anon?

>>165688>are you thinking of restarting your island anon?Nope. The only thing I'm unhappy with is some placement of houses, but I don't time travel and they take too long to move that I can't be bothered.
Asking because I've heard a lot of people saying they want to restart theirs.
