>things you ate
Raspberry and gooseberry jelly (picrel, not my picture) with whipped cream.
>why
Recovering from surgery and can't eat anything solid but I'm still craving sweet things.
The raspberry one smelled disgusting and insanely gelatine-y when I was mixing and pouring it but the flavour was gorgeous and sweet. The exact opposite happened with the gooseberry one–it smelled like lemon and apples when I mixed it but now that I'm eating it, it barely has any flavour other than what I could only describe as "green and bland." Kind of disappointed, but the texture is nice and the whipped cream makes up for the lack of real flavour. I still have one packet of strawberry jelly, I hope it doesn't betray me like this.

Didn't have any type of ingredients that I can use to make a quick meal and I've spent too much on fast food this week, so I was forced to cook myself something that took like 3 hours. Neckbones and some random chicken garlic flavored rice I found in my pantry that I microwaved. Also had some instant coffee with milk, sugar and salt. No vegetables because I love being constipated, I felt like a cavewoman eating this because of that.

I hope nobody saw me post this in the old thread

I honestly find that honey doesn't sweeten it the way I like. I don't even need a ton of sugar in my drinks, but whenever I've tried to use honey it takes a ton to get it up to a good sweetness level and when it is sweet enough I don't really care for the flavor. I just figure that it's better to use a little white sugar than like 50 jars of honey. I know it's not good for me though, I've cut back on sugar a lot.

I've been on a kick of watching those ASMR asian baking channels on youtube so I made a japanese style strawberry shortcake (not the one pictured). I kind of got the feeling a lot of those aesthetic asian desserts are mostly for show and it would end up tasting disappointing but it was pretty good. This is a misnomer, that's an American shortcake in picrel, but there is no "Asian shortcake". Those YouTube channels with the factory made European cakes are bizarre but unsurprisingly in east Asian circles weird and aggrandizing in their creepy eurocentricness. Ended up skipping lunch because I was assembling furniture all day and didn't have time. But I made white chocolate, rasberry and hazelnut blondies that morning so I had one with a cup of tea as a snack.
Then for dinner I weebed out and made chicken katsu, okonomiyaki and miso soup. I don't care if they don't go together traditionally.
I didn't have a real kitchen for a long time now but I have one now and I'm constantly compelled to cook random shit. I guess there are worse hobbies to have.

Scones, which I had with jam and clotted cream. They were really quick and easy to make, I had forgotten since I hadn't made them since making them with my mum as a kid. They all disappeared really quickly due to family taking them.
Miso butternut squash soup. I generally make a huge batch of soup at the weekend to heat up for lunch in the week. I made way too much though.
Bacon egg and cheese toasties which I had for dinner both nights becuase I had a pack of bacon I needed to use up.
Also a ginger loaf cake with lemon glaze. It's still cooling so I haven't iced it yet. I didn't have any lemons so I'm using some really concentrated lemon tea for the glaze instead.

I used to make oat porridge for breakfast for like 10 years but now I’m hooked on plain yogurt. I fell for the marketing and used to think yogurt were for dieters but the one I buy is 3% fat (which is still only 67 kcal/100g lol) and it’s delicious and creamy and I’ve come to love the tanginess of it. It’s so low-effort to just buy a wholeass 1 kg carton of yogurt to keep in the fridge at work and bring whatever toppings I wanna add. I like adding some raisins and chopped up banana for a bit of sweetness and a shit ton of nuts (almonds, walnut, pecan, whatever I have around). I eat this for my breakfast-lunch meal every day now. I love everything low-effort and don’t get bored of food easily so I’ll probably keep eating yogurt for the foreseeable future.

Sorry anon I just winged it and cheated with a cheap ready made curry sauce lol.

For the curry I cubed marinated tofu, and fried them in hot oil. When the tofu cubes had some nice crust I set them aside and sprinkled over some spices and soy sauce. Then I roasted spices (chili flakes, cumin, curry powder, coriander powder) in oil and added chopped onion, garlic and cashew nuts. When those had roasted enough I added the ready made sauce, but you could just use even more spices, some vegetables and coconut milk. Adjusted salt with condensed vegetable stock, added grated ginger and let simmer for 5 mins. Last I added the fried tofu into the curry.

For the rice I rinsed my rice and added it to a rice cooker with vegetable stock and lots of chopped garlic. When the rice was ready I added home made garlic butter and let it melt, then I fluffed the rice with a plastic spoon. This also seems like a good recipe for it https://apeachyplate.com/rice-cooker-garlic-rice/

We had our Christmas celebration party with all the work colleagues where four teams cooked, I participated in making the Italian chicory salad with pecans and a vegetable Strudel (which looked more like a spring roll but everything has to have a fancy feckin name nowadays).
Next we had a chestnut soup, as a main course pork medallions with potato gnocchi, mushrooms and green beans and a sauce with em. I wish we'd have had salt and pepper on the tables, there was no way to season anything to my taste, I always need more black pepper and there was absolutely none on any of the three courses.
And as a dessert a "Stollen Tiramisu" which was a slice of the German Stollen cake with some beaten Mascarpone with sugar in it (as if tiramisu was just the goddamn Mascarpone cream) with an orange "Kompott" (which was just orange supremes with an orange reduction sauce).
It wasn't bad but as a foodie and snob (since I come from the country of "la fucking gastronomic excellence") I hate when some restaurant, catering company or event company uses fancy meal descriptions and then you get something even a guy who bought everything pre made in a store and layered it in meal plates could have named to sound like he actually made an effort.

Genuine question, isn't that what kompot is? I think food can be simple while still using correct terms. Of course in some cases it's misleading if the dish is defined by a specific technique and they omit doing that. The tiramisu seems like a stretch.

A "Kompott" (or "compote" where I'm originally from) is the texture of applesauce, with a small ratio of fruit bits still in the sauce/Kompott/compote if you make it yourself and like a bit of crunchiness. So it is a stretch to have orange supremes raw in an orange juice reduction and call it a "Kompott".

In any case, today I chucked bell peppers and a zucchini in the oven wrapped in aluminum foil for 45 minutes while I was making refried beans as well as eggs and bacon on the stove.
Half of the zucchini and bell peppers I added garlic confit (oil included) to and a bit of garlic powder, seasoned it too and it was the best salad I've had in a while.

And I made a colorful salad for my lunch tomorrow with cucumber slices, grated orange and yellow carrots, the other half the cooked zucchini and red bell peppers, with some olive oil and lemon juice. I kept some of the refried beans for my lunch tomorrow as well.

Just ate about 2x this amount of green grapes. So fucking good. God damn I love grapes. I try to eat them slowly but I wound up wolfing them down in less than 5 minutes. I have no grape self-control. I have this many grapes every night for years and they never stop tasting so good. Apparently as a baby my mom says I was obsessed with grapes, specifically teething on a mesh bag of frozen ones. Did that turn me into a grape fanatic, or was I just born loving them? When I eat them I have to stop myself from talking about how delicious they are because no one wants to hear it. I get it. But they're so good, I offer to serve my family some and they only want like 10 grapes every time. I try to give them a serving closer to picrel but they say "I can't eat this many grapes, anon" which I think is ridiculous. They're all sick right now and I think they should eat more grapes, for their health. But they won't. Not that spicy but still nice at the back of my throat. The broth was nicely complex and wasn't like anything I'd had before (which granted I don't have much experience). The first taste the noodles felt a little mushy but I think I just dove in too fast cause the second bite onwards it was fully cooked and great. Good amount of ingredients in the broth but I'm glad I added the egg cause there wasn't anything else aside from two meats and the noodles. Gonna have to come back to this place soon and try something else. I knew it was a good sign when I showed up 7 on a Tuesday and the place was packed and I had to wait

I just tried to make a mini banana cheesecake with whatever cream cheese I had left, an egg, an unripe banana, honey instead of sugar because I don't have granulated sugar, and homemade "cream" (melted butter and milk mixed together even though I could have just used butter)- all mixed together in a blender and poured into an oven safe bowl then baked. The small amount I tried so far tastes kind of bad but I still have to eat it

Felt indulgent but didnt want to go grocery shopping so I made yaki onigiri. My favorite has umeboshi as the filling, and the rice is mixed with butter and soy sauce. It's so good. Crispy, buttery rice, cut by the acidity of the umeboshi… I highly recommend it.

I made lasagna with ground lamb, a bit of polish sausage, shredded broccoli, and homemade tomato sauce for my lunches. It was so fucking delicious. I use to be a hard-core vegetarian, I never thought I'd eat lamb of all things. It was fatty in a good way, texture wasn't as thick as beef, and had a good flavor which I wasn't expecting after reading how it could taste "gamey". It was roughly the same price as ground beef at Aldis, I will definitely get more. And the tomatoes had so much flavor, Im happy I put all that work in last summer to can sauce. I'm never going back to buying prego sauce again.

I need every last one of you nonnies to participate in an experiment for me. I need you to make strawberry milk from scratch, using 2 methods. One just sugar, chopped strawberries, a squeeze of lemon mixed up and left over night. The other using half of that mixture but boiled down into a syrup. Then taste test them side by side and report back which one is better, and why.

Bonus points for:
-trying different milks. You must be meticulous — for this is science! describe the milk blend you use precisely.
-different brands or types of strawberry (eg organic)
-different cooking times for the strawberry syrup
-more or less lemon
-longer strawberry mixture rest times
-flavor of overnight steeping in the milk compared to control

I will do this experiment with non-organic strawberries and a milk base comprised of 3/4cup walnut milk and 2tbs of silk cream (picrel). Now off you go! Calling all nonnies!

please don't judge too hard, I don't have my spice cabinet back yet and had to improvise
Ingredients
>rice (short grain white/sushi rice holds together the best. 1 cup uncooked rice usually makes about 3-4 onigiri for me)
>filling of choice
>nori/dried seaweed
>furikake (if you want more flavor and texture on the rice)

Miso Tuna Salad ingredients
>1 can of tuna
>1 large spoonful red/aka miso (could also use white/shiro miso for a milder funky flavor)
>splash of tamari soy sauce (to taste)
>splash of sesame oil (to taste)
>enough mayo to keep it all combined
Just mix this together in a bowl and adjust the ratios until you like the taste. I usually make the filling a little saltier because the flavor gets muted by the rice. Salty fillings also inhibit bacteria growth and food spoilage, in case you want to make these the night before.

Equipment:
>rice cooker or boiling pot
>onigiri mold (picrel) or plastic-wrap
>mixing bowl
The actual rice balls are easy: You just take your cooked rice and put some in your hand/the bottom of your mold, then layer some of the filling in the center, and then cover the rest with rice while carefully forming and pressing it into a triangle shape. Et voila, you've made onigiri! Happy cooking nonna!

Today I made one into a giant fritter with some small sautee'd cauliflower bits, and topped it with a small tomato and red onion salad. Some people prefer to stuff them, but I've been cooking them long enough that I just stir what I like into the batter and make it part of the "pancake"

I'll just post the recipe so maybe you get a better idea what is tastes like?

Serves 2-3
-150-200g feta cheese
-250g cherry tomatoes
-1 tablespoon of spice mix with dried tomato, onion, garlic and herbs, or similar
-1 medium chili pepper
-1 medium bulb of garlic, preferably fresh and mild tasting
-1-2 tablespoons pine nuts
-150-200g pasta of your choice
-olive oil
-spring onion, basil etc
-honey
-salt
-black pepper
-parmesan

1. Preheat oven to 200 C / 400 F.
2. Cut the chili pepper thinly, remove seeds. Smash and peel the cloves a whole bulb of garlic and roughly cut or tear them in half or in thirds. Crush or chop pine nuts roughly.
3.Coat an oven dish lightly in olive oil. Put in the whole feta block, cover with a spice mix of your choice and chopped chili pepper. Place whole cherry tomatoes and garlic gloves around the feta. Top with pine nuts, black pepper, salt and a bit of olive oil.
4. Bake in 200 C / 400 F for 15 mins, then broil at 225 C / 440 F for 10-15 mins so the cheese and tomatoes get some color.
6. Cook pasta according to instructions.
7. Add a teaspoon of honey and drained pasta to the feta and tomatoes and mix together breaking the feta block and tomatoes. Top with parmesan and chopped spring onion, basil and/or herb of your choice. Add a bit of pasta water if you want it more ~wet~.
8. Enjoy!

Then add red pepper, water, bay leaves, 1.5 bouillon cube and paprika/cumin/turmeric/chili powder/a little bit of curry powder. Let it boil for 10-15 mins until the water is gone, let it sit for a few minutes and add a tin of lentils, corn and kidney beans, don't cook them just stir them in. I'm a few continents away from Mexico but it tastes pretty good to me lol, the butter and red pepper make it much better.

It's definitely not a dietary fad like many other things pushed, it's truly good for your gut health and overall health but good on you for being skeptical. I would recommend goat yoghurt as an even healthier option as it's more nutritious and goats are not pumped full of hormones which end up in dairy like cows.

In my country yogurt is not a snack that's eaten with a spoon, it's a drink with a thick consistency and you traditionally have a glass of it with your breakfast.
