This is a story about someone vomiting on a snacktivist. We should all follow her example.
>Anyways, the JerkRind of this story is actually a fairly prominent person within the HAES and Tumblr communities, and so I have been fed up with her ever since she garnered fame at my school (famous for producing Ball Jars), simply because she wrote an "essay" full of trite tumblrisms about how SHE, a fine, sassy, FAT woman, found love and got laid. (Gag me with a giant spoon.)
I'm not going to tell you that I was eating nothing but a banana (105 calories) and an almond (7 calories) while I prepared myself for my morning marathon (less than I usually do, because I was tired), because fuck that, I hate it when people do that in these stories. It doesn't matter, and you don't care.
I'm pretty average in size and appearance, but as a grad student, I've finally achieved my confidence peak. I'm married, and I've given myself an ulcer this semester working on two Master's at the same time. I am fucking tired and don't care how I appear to anyone but my professors and my husband. I'm wearing a pencil skirt, boots, and flowy shirt thing because I have to give a presentation to one my thesis committees today. I'm multi-tasking with an architectural program open up in a window next to my web browser. My computer is 17 inches, and is really easy to read from far away.
Like I said, JerkRind was able to "publish" an essay (in a web journal, so not even legit) last year about how even though she's fat, she loves herself, and so do all the men who "lust after and pursue her."
If you ever find her essay, you'll learn that she's 5'3 and 300 pounds. In her exact words, "My curves are not in all the right places but they still bring men to their knees." When I first read that, my eyes rolled so far back into my head that I see for a week.
Let me be a little clear here. I don't give a shit that she's fat, in fact, I've always had a bizarre, scientific fascination regarding people of her size. Like when you see an ugly dog. I don't care that she has relations with all the men who "worship her body as a temple." What makes me seethe with anger is the sheer entitlement, the thing that separates a CaterHam from all the average, lukewarm tales that we get around here. The fact that she thinks she's actually an accomplished writer when she's never actually written anything "innovative," to use the term that my school likes to celebrate. My husband graduated from the Creative Writing program as well, so some of this anger comes from his direction as well, and the fact that nobody in his program actually respects her as a writer. She's a jerk, and looks at anybody she deems to be "privileged" with disdain, and so she brags about how SHE, a WOMAN was able to achieve publication OVER ALL THOSE MEN in the program. Fuuu-uck that.
Like I said, her publication happened last year, and it would appear that after a few months, everybody forgot about her. However, her appearance is not hard to forget, and so when she approached me this morning, I was immediately reminded of the overly touched-up photo that was posted in our insipid school newspaper next to a section from her critically-acclaimed-winning, award piece.
There I am, sitting in one of our campus's more popular dining halls. I'm just happily reading FatPeopleStories, analyzing my model and eating whatever the fuck I want. Usually when I read FatPeopleStories, I immediately scroll past the banner at the top that loudly proclaims for all the world to see that I AM READING STORIES ABOUT FAT PEOPLE. PROBABLY STORIES THAT MAKE FUN OF THEM. I AM A HORRIBLE PERSON. I MUST BE TERRIBLE. WHY DO I HATE FAT PEOPLE? WHERE DO I GET OFF? I didn't do that today. I was stupid. Distracted and stupid.
Because of the aforementioned ulcer and digestive problems that accompany it whenever I get stressed, I decided to throw away the remainders of my breakfast and make a mad dash towards the bathroom. I'm quickly standing up, straightening my pencil skirt, when the hero of our tale approaches me. AND. SHE. LOOKED. PISSED.
"So you think you're pretty cool, huh?" She asks.
I immediately assumed she meant my architectural model, which was displayed in 3D form on my screen. Turning around to look at it, I realized, she may have meant my outfit. I looked down at my clothes. I have barely learned to accept my appearance and not feel self-conscious when wearing something other than jeans. I'm not going to lie, I wilted a little bit.
"I can't believe that there are people at this school who are so self-entitled that they just openly display their fatphobia! What kind of asshole just does that!"
