this is so much ridiculous target crap, anon… you guys would like stuff like this, no offense.

i hate that in all of these aesthetic shabby chic room photos they have to cram as much bric a brac into them as physically possible. it's the biggest boner killer. it makes me nauseous. pic related is cute and perfect in terms of color/accents and the overall ethereal feel, but it's completely fucking ruined by the fact that they've shoved a stupid, useless roman pedestal in a 2x2 room, and have strewn vaguely cream colored garbage everywhere. i don't know why weirdos online with all this cash can't master shabby chic without filling every square inch of space with what are effectively $15 tj maxx birdcages and stupid misplaced teapots everywhere

i like that better too but I lived in the living room throughout my childhood and as such wasn't allowed to personalise or clutter the space so I honestly don't know how to decorate haha

I love minimalist interiors, beige, pale wood, black and white, warm grey. I guess it's really easy on the eyes, very inoffensive, I find it really soothing. I love going to Ikea and Muji, when I was a kid I used to go see show homes with the bare bones furniture and I loved it

Yeah it’s a repro. My great aunt owns the same one. One baroque inspired table, a couple of modern chairs with plastic legs that dont match the tables era, and an oversized chandelier in a shabby chic house don’t make anything baroque.

i agree that new furniture is stupidly overpriced, but you do realize that two authentic 18th century french chairs would set you back like $8,000, right? for chairs with rapidly decreasing structural integrity. not really livable, anon, and you'd have to shell out way more than just ordering a set from overstock.com.

I'm really into chinoiserie inspired/preppy-electic interiors lately. I feel like if designed well, you can have a lot of stuff going on and still have it look cohesive. It can contain vintage and modern elements too. Overall, very fun and colorful.

Same here. I can never manage to keep indoor houseplants alive anywhere except the windowsill even though I have pretty large windows. I want to say this as I'm someone who keeps a lot of plants- plants can get bugs quite easily. Maybe it's just the area I live in but I have to be hyper vigilant or else I get gnats. And they are an absolute pain to get rid of. I keep all my plants in 2 small areas that have my grow lamps, I can't imagine having them all around my room like in all the plant aesthetic pics. I just imagine the place crawling with bugs. Sorry for the blogpost I just had to throw in a cautionary word.

i've seen people do the plant look with silk fakes, which are getting very realistic, but dusting looks impossible. i've heard pressurized air, but to get it really clean i think you'd have to take it all down every three months, give it a good swish in the sink, then re-hang everything.

i know real plants can get mites but honestly i'll take the mites. pothos are resistant and grow like weeds. i used them as a shower curtain once, it looked great. wish i had a pic.

alcove beds are so cozy. i love sleeping in small, enclosed spaces.

beds are usually simple/ignored in "cyberpunk/hacker" aesthetics – the implication is that you don't sleep. I agree though, screens that near my bed are not ideal. Back when my room was most similar to this my sleep schedule was horrible.

I love this Korean-apartment aesthetic of neutral white with a sleek feel but also a homey feel? I usually see this aesthetic with Asian cultures and I wish I could emulate it but it looks very minimalistic aside from the art and I'm a person who has not-aesthetic but random crap all over the floor.

recently I've been watching a bunch of videos on minimalism. I love the channel 'heal your living', she's an extreme minimalist, has no furniture and sleeps in a hammock. I love so many of the rooms in this thread but I'm definitely moving towards minimalism (to make my space more calming, to save money and realise I don't need so many useless things) I feel like the minimalism/low waste movement is really gaining momentum recently

Last idea is that on cheaper tables and chairs, you can usually change out the legs really easily. Pic related is just to show the concept, but imagine it on a rectangular table once the whole thing is painted to be one color.

My aesthetic has been bright/clashing, somewhat eclectic, and local artist/craftsman-based with some ephemera, for a long time. All of my belongings have to fit in a suitcase these days, so maybe I'll slowly develop a new aesthetic. Right now it's a sham of its former self.

The Selby is In Your Place gives the general idea, especially around the time it came out. (The rooms in the book look dated but cute now.)

TBH most of these seem staged and a pain in the ass to maintain. So I assume a lot of anons here must be underage or haven't lived on their own. Like, a lot of these "plants everywhere" pictures feature pants growing above a stove, which would never work, so it must be staged. But this is an inspo thread, of course they are staged and probably from interior design magazines or websites or something. What about air plants?
Less water means less moisture which potentially means less mold/smell
Bugs/leaves might still be an issue though

Also, I hear that watering plants from the bottom helps eliminates mold/smell because the top layer is dry and there's not enough water in the soil to grow much else (because the plants only take up what they need through their roots)

or just have fake plants if you just like the aesthetic–might be nice to pair with LEDs for a magic forest type of feeling?

I've always lived with house plants and have literally never encountered any of these problems. I live in an appartment though, not a house. The smell of dirt is very faint and if anything it just smells like the rain, have never had bugs, have had to pick up maybe like 3 leaves per plant per year because they grow very slowly.
To each their own i guess, probably depends on the type and species of plants too, it's just curious to me that i can't relate to any of those problems.
The most annoying thing about owning plants imo is not being able to go on trips without having someone to care for your plants.

Damn, is that considered a weird thing to do? My family and I always just used a plain old blanket to sleep under. Duvets are overrated and fucking annoying to wash. Not exactly room inspo but I think it fits this thread. I used to live in Budapest and recently I’ve been aching to move back to Europe even though it’s unrealistic for me in my current position. I would do anything to have a bright open apartment like this with herringbone hardwood flooring, big white windows and a wrought-iron balcony. The style is very Parisian but you have the perk of Eastern Europe being much cheaper than Paris. This particular apartment looks out onto a beautiful Baroque cathedral and there are half a dozen bakeries and cafes just a few steps from the front door, plus it’s only a short walk from the Danube. It makes me depressed that you can’t find anything like this in the States.

I want to get a comforter because my blanket doesn't fit in any of my covers and it's exhausting to change my sheets tbh. But I don't understand them? I’m sorry if that’s the wrong thread but I literally don’t know where else to ask this.

Does anyone by any chance know where I could get this desk?
It looks like it’s from ikea (the drawers remind me a lot of kullen/malm furniture) but I can find anything like it.
I even considered that it’s made out of two night stands and a table top, but I can’t find any night stands like that either and it doesn’t seem like the drawers have their own top part (although, that probably could be left out when you put them together, now that I think about it).

But anyways. Any help would be appreciated as this is the first room inspo picture that actually fits the logistics of my own apartment/room.

You could actually make it yourself for cheaper if you have space and help, it doesn't seem very complicated, except for the drawers (maybe it would be easier to just make cabinets instead of drawers). This is random but I've finally discovered a term to describe my housing aesthetic - "colorful minimalism."

I like how minimalism is about possessing less objects and clutter, but I don't like the current pinterest trend of "everything must be WHITE and SPARSE and BARREN except your plant collection." I would like a house with less furniture, less objects, but the furniture there is is brightly colored and has pops of pattern.

Anyone have ideas for their dream bathrooms? The bathroom is like a sanctuary for me. Personally, I would love a dark atmosphere with lots of mosaic tiles and a big bath.

I haven't thought too much on the design but I'd love a big wet room style shower. I like sitting in the shower so having all that space and maybe a built in bench would be awesome. I also like how seamless and spacious they make the bathroom look. I also wall tiling that doesn't look like normal tiles, eg fake wood, fake brick.

Too bad I'll never be able to afford it kek I'm planning a bathroom reno eventually and even with the plainest, cheapest materials it'll still cost me like 10-15k.

I know the feeling, it's something that eventually I want to work up to. Tiles alone are expensive, even if you DIY the whole thing it's still an excessive amount omg. For a shower, my dream would be Dornbracht's Aquamoon. I saw a demo of it one and looked so decadent, thought that was at a commercial show lol.
