Perfect timing for this thread OP, I was just thinking this morning about how much I would love to participate in a terf protest at Pride this year. Has anyone heard of anything like that in the US? Would anyone here go to one? I know a lot of us might be afraid to put our real selves out there like that, but honestly I don't think we have to be. Do people even go to pride parades anymore? Most of my friends and I just celebrate at home or go camping or something. It's a fun excuse to get together, but nobody I know still goes to parades unless they're under the age of like 22. The last time I went to a pride parade was in 2018 and it was mostly fake bisexual women and gay male kinksters, and everyone was drunk and on either ecstasy or meth.

It was normal to expect to get beaten up for looking gay or being too GNC, it was actually dangerous for gay couples to hold hands in public, and gay circles were very close knit because many times other gay people were their only source of support and their only family.
Pride was about showing everyone that being LGB was nothing bad, the gays were just normal humans who wanted human rights. Being gay was kind of fashionable until the AIDS crisis really took off but it was cool in a similar way that being gay was cool in the 2000s among scene kids. It was something you'd probably grow out of, or that was only acceptable for a certain group of effete artistes in their cool lofts.
Gay rights meant gay people having the same rights as straight people. Being allowed to marry and have all the legal privileges and rights that a marriage entailed, being able to adopt children or raise a family (kids were often 'protected' from their gay divorced parents), being protected from the most blatant forms of discrimination in the workplace, being able to buy a home with their same-sex partner or get a hotel room with one bed. It was about being seen as humans.
Now that we achieved that goal it's overshot in the wrong direction and lesbians are expected to suck cock, gay men are expected to fuck women who call themselves men, and bisexuals are expected to champion trans inclusion in everyone's pants. It's not about the LGB, it's the TQA+ party now, and god help you if you don't pander to a demi grey blue allosexual SSA but het bigender transhuman in the exact way that they want you to. It's not about being included, it's about being the main character of the universe and getting some really smarmy content for socials.

You're right that a relationship with two men is going to have double the income advantage. But that's only going to be the case if both men were raised upper or middle class with accepting families. Lesbians don't accumulate the same level of wealth even when they do come from those backgrounds, a reflection of the inequities they experience as women. Obviously lesbians have more challenges, because they have do deal with being mistreated for their sex as well as their orientation.

Here it’s still kind of religious but people have become much more chill about LGB, with a very “live and let live” attitude. The churches all do same sex weddings and if anyone disagrees I guess they grumble about it in private and know better than to make it anyone else’s problem. But the local Pride organisation is full of genderqueer aroace nonbinaries who get newspaper segments about how grandma not understanding what demisexuality is (and how it makes them super special and kweer) is the worst kind of oppression. They act extremely obnoxious and then act like it’s a hate crime when someone asks them to tone it down a bit/maybe not organise sexually explicit drag shows in the middle of the day in the town square. It’s like they’re going out of their way to antagonise people so they can play the
victim and pretend the town is more conservative/bigoted than it actually is. Even actually gay/lesbian friends and relatives who visit us act like they’ll be hatecrimed in the street for holding hands even though it’s not like that at all. It’s very annoying.
