Cafe's/pubs are always looking for pot washers even if it is not the most glamourous job, but a job is a job. If you're in the UK this site might help for looking for jobs: https://www.indeed.co.uk

I've been searching for more than a year seriously. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me or my resume.
>>271718
thanks for the link but I'm in Australia. How would you approach a cafe/pub for that? Just go in and ask?

Yeah 'have you got any vacancies open?' and hand over your resume if they do, or they may ask you to apply online but I feel like it's unlikely. I've found the same site but for jobs in Australia: https://au.indeed.com/jobs?q=&l=australia , it lets you add a specific location next to the 'where' which it pretty cool. There may be some jobs open where you live!:3

Ahh yeah, I've been using a similar site called seek. Thanks anon. The problem I think is with my resume. If your the type of person who gets jobs easily, please, tell me your ways/how you do your resume.

You're welcome! Ah I'm not the best person to ask but you've got to alter your resume to the kind of job you're applying to, but I know that pot wash they don't really care about resumes but experience helps. This part time job I've got rn is the first job I've got ;_; I wish I sucked it up and not let anxiety take control or else I would've got a part time job 2 years ago.

I just got a job as a hostess, today was my first official day. I found the ad on craigslist. The application/hiring/first day process took less than a week. CL can be sketchy but there can be good finds, and you can usually get hired faster when contacting them directly.

Don't include your address or phone number on your resume. It's a security risk and unnecessary; if they require such information they will ask for it. Definitely include your name, email address and a link to your website/portfolio (you'd be amazed how many people forget their own name or email on their resume).

Don't use bullet points; they're outdated, and a sentence or two is plenty. If they want to know more info, they'll ask you in the interview.

Use a sans serif font. The more sleek and minimal the layout, the better.

Don't include those cheesy graphical representations of your skills (e.g. Adobe Premiere 90%, Photo Retouching 100%). They had their heyday around 2012, now they're outdated.

Do not clutter the page up with a wall of text – this is the easiest way to make your resume forgettable. And do not include a picture of yourself, it's dated.

Don't be bashful when it comes to the application process; be persistent, be a PEST. Apply to jobs multiple times, apply to jobs you think you're not qualified for, apply to your dream job, apply to jobs you're almost certain you won't get. Spam your resume absolutely everywhere. Network whenever possible, always have business cards in your pocket. You never know who you could meet.

Good luck, anons!

While I’ve not had success yet, I’ve at least gotten responses and interviews by sort of pestering employers.
I’ll submit my resume for multiple positions if they’re open at the same company, reapply if the ad goes back up. Refusing to disappear and making a point to be in every pile of resumes they go through seems to be the best option so far.

The hardest part applying is the ones where you have to say why you want to work for whoever and why you’re the best candidate. It’s hard to sell yourself without it being ott or generic.

Thank you for this Anon. I'm going to scrap my entire resume. I'm seriously too stupid to do it better though. How would you suggest I write it? Like, obviously what I I have now is not getting me anywhere but I seriously have no clue what to write better, how to word it properly or even what to say on it so they don't throw it in the trash. My brain is damn frustrating. Can you give me any examples of what you talk about on yours? I'm so lost cos this is actually the first time I've had to get a job through a resume cos I've only had one 3 year job previously and I only got in because my brother got it for me.

did some googling and something like pic related is what I have in mind when it comes to a nice modern resume format (I'd use a sans serif font, tho).

But if your descriptions require more explaining, maybe try this format:

Awesome Shoe Company, Brand Ambassador
Jan. 2016 - July 2018
Served as branded relations ambassador and assisted with XX rebrand, XX launch, and XX sales pitch. Served as direct contact and liaison for Mr. ZZ. Secured partnership with brand YY.

(Also, if you are worried about your resume being too scant, go volunteer at your local library or community center for a few weeks. Volunteering is an excellent gap-filler and it always looks good on a resume, it shows you're willing to work for free and give back to your community.)

For an entry-level job you need luck and a good personality to raise your chances. Do your best at interviews and take those for jobs you don't necessarily want. Practice, practice, practice. Eventually you get comfortable with interviews and employers will notice that.

I have no personality so I rely on my skillset and a two year degree for a position in high demand and high turnover rate. I mostly got lucky.

What is your degree out of curiosity?

Christ, there's literally 2 other Career/Money threads going on in /ot/ alone, and 2 others in /g/, did you even check before making this?

I looked at them, this isn't about making moves in big careers or money. Calm down. This is basically entry level shit thread. Even though I'm 20 I'm behind cos the job I had since I was 16 years old never required a resume. I'm behind.
>>272019
No degree. I just need something to start paying my dues round here, save for travel and reverse the affects of being an agoraphobic ridden NEET.

No. 272042

>>272019
I'm sketchy about sharing what that degree is because I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in the entire board with this position. But it involves animals and a ton of stress. I'm crazy enough to put up with it though and it's decent job security so it works out.

>>>/ot/131699 is for all employment/career stuff, woes etc. read the fucking OPs.
