Who is your favorite evil team leader? I'm very fond of Cyrus. I know you can argue his motives make no sense, but I still think they are better-justified than Lysandre or someone similar. I'll admit his motivation is pretty funny, but it's still believable enough that I can appreciate it. Not to mention that in Platinum, he kind of gets what he wants in the end, and I don't think he was at all remorseful for it. Plus, while we don't get a ton of backstory, we do learn enough to paint a pretty clear picture of the kind of child he was and how he became the person he is. His battle theme is great, too.

Anyway, back to Cyrus. He's unable to accept an alternative opinion, just like Lysandre, whose goal is sort of similar. I actually think the two could be great friends, or become the worst enemies due to their differences and extreme autism.
Slightly unrelated to this but I just remembered that part in the villain arc in PoMa where all the villains team up to stop Giovanni, it was the most epic hype shit ever. I think this sort of thing should be done more often.

It's also the Rainbow Rocket Giovanni from USUM and I don't exactly favor that version of him or anything that has to do with the multiverse stuff in that generation. But I admit his alts are too cool not to like, a lot of his dialogue is cute/funny and his themes are awesome.

Then USUM went a step further and brought back characters as they appeared in the "non-mega" games, so it isn't such a stretch to think they came specifically from the non-mega universe. In other words, the original games are heavily implied to be canonically considered to take place in a different universe, and this is plot-relevant. It's not something people have just made up out of an obsession with fan theories like the canon protagonist thing.

I think it's pretty clear what Game Freak's intention was. What Zinnia said was them setting up future interdimensional multiverse bullshit, which has only been getting more explicit in each generation. Ultra Wormholes and Team RR in Gen 7. Space-time distortions in PLA. In SV we have pokémon that come from alternate pasts and futures and aren't actually related to the species found in SV's present timeline, despite their striking resemblance. Yeah, they add new lore in each game and they could always ignore it in the next gen, but from what we've seen so far, most of the time they use what was added or hinted at in previous games to take an idea even further in the next generation. They do care about not contradicting themselves, and they seem to be planning this sort of thing more carefully lately.
