they have a point. it's hard to differentiate k-pop group members and it's not because of le evil westurn ppl being racist to azns, it's because they are marketed as carbon copies of each other. a group like blackpink would just be boring in the american entertainment industry, a group constantly talking about and thanking their fans comes off as weird in anywhere other than k-pop fandoms too

The comments are really priceless lol a lot of people pointing out how skinny they are with the typical replies from fans "Nooo they eat so much!! watch these videos!!". Come on blinks, they are anorexic as FUCK.

Also lol at this comment, now Colbert is racist for not putting subtitles on a live show. I like the superficial aspects of kpop and I follow some groups because I find it fun, but I can't wait for the hype in America to DIE already so I can stop cringing at my own personal guilty pleasure.

They looked awkward, anorexic and sounded really bad. I think they definitely dropped the ball on getting America's attention besides koreaboos. I will give BTS a pass in the sense that they gave the slightest sense of having SOME personality when breaking into America. But Blackpink is really just a bunch of vacant pretty girls. They are also clearly on the brink of imploding considering how much Jennie slacks off and probably prefers to be a soloist, so I doubt they'll last much.

They are also ALWAYS out of sync. For fuck sakes, try a bit harder YG.

America has some shit artists, but Korea needs to realize that having "visuals" does not guarantee a success here. You need some actual talent people, if not you're going to get shit on.

Also, there's no way americans won't look at them and feel disgusted on how skinny they look.

i'd say something like "how do their fans see them as great dancers when they are always out of sync" but even their fans acknowledge that they aren't hardworking performers so i don't know what to say. at least try to improve yourself for the sake of people who come to see you performing.

I saw a lot of comments of people complaining only Lisa had pants, lol why is that bad? She was probably the most comfortable one, some of the others look awkward as hell, especially Jennie. I'm also tired of seeing these kpop idols with black tight shorts, or skin tight dresses, they look so skinny it makes me sick. That part where they push their ass out is laughable, pure bone.

Blackpink 2.0 is here now. At least they dance slightly better? ugh… and reminder that the girl at 1:25 doing that move is only 15 years old.

The song really is a mess but the breakdown around 1:30 is SO bad and jarring to me. Also, I think I've just realized why girl groups choreo look so empty and awkward, they stand so far away from each other all the time, probably because they mostly flay their arms around and want to avoid hitting the member next to them.

Already see Jennie 2.0 and Jisoo 2.0 with Yeji and Lia. I fucking hate girl anthem songs where members scream, and this song and their other one is full of that.

I don’t even think these low effort “US promotions” from BlackPink or NCT are even trying to get them super famous anymore tbh. targeting existing kpop fans of other groups and the 12-16 year olds who would’ve been the fans of girl/boy bands is enough to just get more fans to sell out slightly larger concert venues. Kind of like how the Wonder Girls could’ve done okay if they persisted with touring with the Jonas Brothers and having a Nickolodeon movie, it’s easier to go after that smaller niche demographic harder than trying to get them the success of an Ariana or something. if that’s not what they’re actually trying then they should really just stick to that instead, they’re never going to be actually mainstream. The Coachella audience aren’t going to want to go to a BlackPink solo concert after seeing them, have more reasonable expectations and just chase that

Rose was much better than Jennie and all that proves is that Kpop is so fucking fake, I don't think regular Americans will ever take it seriously. What's the point of acting like a badass in your music videos and having articles written about how you're savage and expensive and then serve awkward ten year old in your interviews? This isn't Korea, people won't give you a pass if you giggle and smile. Cardi B can't rap for shit but she is on stage who she is off stage and people consider her to be authentic.

However, some folks saying Rose is a superstar in the making just for being able to speak fluent English and answer basic questions without vomiting all over herself…yikes. The bar is so low in Kpop and yet the delusion is so high. I wonder if those two things correlate.

Wanting idols to learn English to promote in the west is supremacist logic now? Lmao

No. 373551

>>373500
if it's an artist who visits a foreign country like once in two years for concerts of course people are not going to expect them to speak their language, but if they are constantly using that country for promotions and has a fair amount of following there of course people are going to expect them to be able to at least handle basic daily conversations in their language. k-pop groups who want to promote in japan learn some amount of japanese too.

and english is not my native language so i'm not an american supremacist or anything but english is the closest you'll get to a universal language, that's just the truth. even if your native language is something completely different than english there are so many opportunities to learn english literally anywhere in the world, especially for millionaires who don't have anything to do other than practice dancing and listen to what their management says. they are not oppressed, they are just lazy. if they are so conservative about their language then they need to stop writing half of their songs in broken english for coolness, giving their songs english titles and flexing about the attention they get from english-speaking audiences.

No. 373554

>>373500
Nobody expects you to master the native tongue of a country you're just visiting in, but if you want to make a career in that country that it'd make sense to learn at least to a conversational level, no?

I wouldn't care about idols' English abilities if they were just doing concerts there and fucking off back to Seoul. But if they want to legitimately break into America, what's so xenophobic about adapting to their country's culture? Almost every foreign artist who's had a hit song in America spoke English.

No. 373556

I don't know if some of the members are just shy/scared to try to speak in English but I've seen less famous groups and even random Korean youtubers speak some level of English when they're in a different country. I don't understand why idols learning english is a problem when idols learn different languages to appeal their fans all the time?

so many idols learn japanese, mandarin, thai etc. so they can promote in those places, especially if they have a huge fanbase there (1st person who came to mind is daesung from bigbang, he's really popular in japan so it makes sense that he can speak/sing in fluent japanese) some even learn a little spanish if they have a large latin american following…so why is wanting them to know english so controversial? comes across as more ~REEEEE those darn evil westerners~ than anything else

About that "Learn English!" thing: I'm from a non-english speaking country and whenever there's a foreign artist performing, they either don't get interviewed at all OR the host will speak to them in english and they answer in english and then the whole thing gets dubbed or subbed. You can't expect everybody to always have somebody ready who can translate korean. English is simply the standard nowadays. I think a lot of people (ie. companies) really misinterpret what made BTS so successful in the first place, and that's their ingenuity. Or perceived ingenuity, I don't personally know how genuine BTS are (they're most likely as fake as the next Kpop group), but they give off that appearance to their fans. From their vlives and youtube videos, fan interactions, "deep" lyrics about things they struggle with, showing different sides of them, it's very different than how other Kpop groups have given off an image of perfection and smiles and untouchability. Most ARMYs have shown their distaste for Kpop as a whole by now because they find other groups to be manufactured while BTS, to them, is different. BTS, to them, is real. Watching a small company group rise up the way they have is also what sells that. Which is also probably why they're split on TXT, the ARMYs who don't want to support TXT know that TXT are rising because of very different circumstances to BTS' "real" ones. If companies want a new BTS, they have to show a genuine side to their groups. SM is attempting to do that with NCT by opening a million youtube accounts, and JYP is attempting to do that with Stray Kids by giving them full composing, production, and lyric writing rights. And those are the two big three groups that are rising the most with stan twitter/international fans. However, I'm unsure if it's going to be a big three group that becomes the next BTS, because most people already question a big three company's motives. It's going to be hard to seem genuine coming from a big company. Stray Kids having full production rights and pandering will help them, but I truly think that it'll be a group like Ateez that becomes the "next BTS." AKA a group that's not from an unknown company that no one cares about and has no budget or a big company that people will question. They have production/lyric writing rights, and a decently "unique" enough style to differentiate them from other groups, as well as stage presence that dictates passion for what they do (another important thing for selling ingenuity, which is why BlackPink are getting so criticized as of late), fan interaction and personality are also very important. The more "crackheady" a group acts, the more likely they are to hit it big with an international audience. Which is why GOT7 does very well overseas, but doesn't quite hit it domestically.

Has anyone noticed since 2017 a handful of (mostly) female idols from 2nd gen or early 3rd gen started getting solos? Some didn't do well but i'm noticing a trend, a lot of them are outcharting top kpop groups or at least have decent standing, making a lot of established idols known or nugu want to take a crack at the solo scene.

Hwasa and Chunga are dominating the charts right now and even jennie's SOLO is still at #17 on melon despite it being 3 months old.

Then there is most of W1 deciding to go solo because being in a group that's not W1 will deminish their popularity as seen with i.o.i, and i'm sure it will be rinse and repeat with IZ*ONE and future pd101 groups.

I wonder if by the 2020s kpop will shift into majority solo acts, most internationally popular kpop acts are groups so I can only imagine a scenario where i-fans will react when solos happen without the need of support from a established group, making groups irrelevent.

The fact that most post-IOI groups (gugudan, WJSN, Weki Meki, DIA, Pristin for example) are failures might also have been a factor.

No. 374468

>>374463
All those groups have way too many members, that's a big factor in their failure. Pristin had the biggest chance of making it because more than half their group were in the final 20 of Produce 101, but Pledis is hugely incompetent and bungled their chances by giving them polarizing songs and then locking them up in the dungeon.

WJSN is currently doing the best out of all post-IOI groups, but Yeonjung was added later, she wasn't the most popular member and barely made it into IOI, and the Chinese members are the most popular in WJSN so they're not dependent on an IOI member's fame like the other groups are.

Especially, since Lele Pons also was at the grammies, but in her case I suspect someone mistook her for a Rita Ora sidekick.

When you are walking on the same red carpet as Lele Pons AND Rita Oral, "prestigious event" is not exactly how I would describe it. Instead I would prefer the wording for their invite to be something like "gotta fill that audience for the TV, what?… sure let them walk the red carpet". I wanted to see what armies meant by this whole bts and their deep meaningful lyrics nonsense so I just read the english translation for all the songs on bts' love yourself trilogy album and I'm so…wow.

Out of all 28 orignal tracks on all three albums (not including the remixes on their album Love Yourself: Answer) only like 5 songs that relate to this cringey love yourself concept. These songs are Sea, Paradise, Magic Shop, So What, and Answer : Love Myself. (Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the songs supposed to be about fans loving and accepting themselves bc most of the songs I listed talk about bts loving themselves and not the other way around.)

The rest of the songs are either just cringey emo love songs talking about how sad they are without x girl or are songs that reflect how pretentious and egostical bts really are (Mic Drop, Go Go (Go), Airplane pt 2, Skit : Billboard Music Awards Speech and Idol are just a few)

All three albums are just really basic and cringy. The lyrics sound like they were written by a depressed 8th grader who just learned about poetry and doesn't understand the definitions of metaphors.

They have a lot of retarded songs but this one is actually not that bad lyrics-wise. The word ddaeng has like a dozen different meanings in Korean and they were all incorporated into the song. I personally don’t think BTS are completely talentless, just not in proportion to their fame and certainly not enough to have such a rabid fan base dedicated to protecting their artistic purity all the time.

I don't know what is the bigger joke: BTS or this comment? Because as much as BTS sucks, the idea that BlackPink will somehow compete with their American achievements when they can barely even get their chopstick legs to wobble in sync is ridiculous. NCT fans said the same thing when NCT was in America for a few days last October and at least they had a song/album to promote. The only thing Blackpink were promoting was bulimia.

BTS's time will come and go quickly enough but ppl need to stop uplifting random shitty groups in a desperate attempt to pretend as if they're competition. You'll just end up embarrassed watching your faves dancing with Mickey Mouse.

I used to be a member of the Allkpop forums in the past when I was a Kpop fan. I only lurk there to see more delusional shit the users churn out now. That place is a goldmine for koreaboos denying their favs plastic surgery and claiming it’s “all natural weight loss!!!”. They’ll also insist that their favs aren’t underweight it’s just that Asians are “naturally skinny!!” Like yeah it’s completely healthy and natural for your upper thighs to be the same width as your arm lmao. It also absolutely fucking disgusts me that there’s 2 active users who are 30+ who thirst on idols who are barely over age. One of them worships the ground Tzuyu walks on, there’s no doubt he thought the same when she was 16 and he was 27. They make threads about how hot their 19 year old favs are but I guarantee there’s a bunch on 14-17 year old idols they wank over and they’re just waiting for the day those idols turn 18 so they can make their thirst public. All the users act like they’re so woke but don’t call out these nasty degenerates for the pedos they are.

Pedos no, but still sexual. Nobody talks about this but the bulk of nsfw kpop accounts about boygroups are run by male fans. And all of those nsfw NCT dream accounts are run by wacko female fans who a lot of the names are even younger than NCT. It’s disgusting how much traction nsfw accounts especially about members who aren’t even 18. It’s funny seeing Army’s get defensive about the plastic surgery that BTS has had. My favourite is when they try to deflect the topic of Jungkook and Jimins nose jobs. The amount of times I’ve seen them say that it’s weight loss/“your nose naturally changes shape as you get older” is laughable. The only time your nose changes shape somewhat drastically is from when you grow out of the tiny baby nose you have before you hit puberty. From then on your nose grows like very very very slowly as you age. Unless you break your nose it’s not gonna change very much. No way does anyone go from the bulbous nose Jungkook had to the smaller one he has now. Or that flat nose Jimin had to that high bridge one he has now. Armys are ridiculous.

Yep never said it wasn’t the case outside of Korea but there is already no body positive image in Korea, don’t target the most vulnerable part of the society?? This isn’t right.

There are so many angles to this horror : sexualisation of children obviously comes to mind, teaching kids that they're not naturally beautiful and they must wear make up to be accepted by society's standards, and whilst we're at it how about plastic surgery .. so disgusted with this whole totalitarian-consumerist-dictatorship it makes you sick to the bone.

I don’t see advertisements of beauty products targeted towards young girls in the department store the way it’s happening in Korea. Those girls use products targeted towards women or adults. But now you can see natural lipsticks and blush specifically advertised with child models to a child audience.

Compared to BP's recent live stage in the US, I'll give this one a pass though the song is still shit and they shouldn't have created the English version of it cause it just didn't work and ended up sounding very awkward.

I don't get why with all the money they have, Korean agencies can't just make a song that suits American standards (like Dua Lipa's Kiss and Make Up, it's still not a BP song btw) and just decide on transforming their Korean songs into English. I'm sure the GP won't give a fuck much about how they look like, as long as they can produce bop songs.

*Though I've seen SM tried once with BoA's Eat You Up, and it was ridiculous despite it being an original English song. Couldn't they have afforded a better songwriter, composer, etc?? The top 3 are filthy rich dammit.

Pandering to their loud international "fanbase" for woke clout was the point. And you're right, in the long term they'll need Asian fans if they hope to make it at all.

Gonna go full tinfoil for a moment and say that maybe Loona is just some money laundering scheme made up by their parent company (Ilkwang Group, an arms manufacturer), because not even the Big 3 would spend this much money on solos and units and reality TV content. Plus some trainees were literally recruited weeks before their MV debut which is why they don't mesh well as a group. Overall they just feel like a mess to me.

We just know it too well that this group will not gain the attention of the Korean GP, thus making international fans their main source of income. The thing is, kpop fans from those countries (where the girls and boys are from) are cheapskates, they will only pay for huge and familiar names only.

They might be able to hype them up on social media, and that's the end of it. Easily impressionable teens are already hyping up one of the girls' insta but I doubt they can have/(are willing to get) actual access to the crypto currency system. This whole project is just doomed to fail.

So I guess they can actually sing. Now i feel bad they are trapped in that shady company lol, but it's their choice anyway. I expect to see their "debunking kpop tranings" and "kpop got me depressed" stories in the following years.

tl;dr

I remember around 6 years ago there was this Kpop group consisting of Korean and Singaporean members. The sgean teenagers thought of them like they're role models or something just because they're the first sgeans to enter kpop.

They disbanded 2 years after their debut with very little success. 1 girl came back to SG and resurfaced with "how kpop messed with my mental health" stories not long after they disbanded. Of course the stories only reached the sgean GP. The other girl desperately seek for validation in korea by joining idol school, only to be eliminated because she's "too old" already for kpop standards.

The point is, unless the company is huge and there is a good portion of korean members, a multi race group in kpop is never gonna be successful. I'm happy at least I don't see any sgean lurking hopelessly in kpop anymore after Skarf's failure. It really taught them a lesson, and was such an eye-opener also.

At this point it seems they’ll be singing in English which honestly isn’t bad but good luck getting Koreans to actually pay you any attention if you couldn’t bother singing their language

Legit some of the netizen comments about rose sound so delusional and cult-like. Even Knetz talk about her amazing proportions (LMAO) and how pretty she is (um) and completely ignore her huge head, scrawny-scary limbs with huge feet and hands because she's food deficient. They go on about how tall she is but she's drawfed by Doyeon and Sowon. But then these are the same people who claim Twice Nayeon is a visual so idk anymore.

I think people also fell for yg media play about how talented their artists are. Her voice has been wonky and tough to listen to from day 1 but they went on and on about how she's a top vocalist and yet where are her osts? She was on a show with other vocalists and behind the scenes btob sungjae literally had to teach her how to sing. A fucking embarrassment.

The problem is Koreans have a sheep mentality and once the mediaplay convinces them of something that's it. YG mediaplay told them YG artists were talented. According to that Koreaboo article a few of them are getting a wake up call but it's way overdue

https://www.koreaboo.com/news/blackpink-good-morning-america-stephen-colbert-late-show-criticism-lack-talent-us-debut/

And as for the constant refrain of "she eats the most in blackpink" I think the fans know she's deeply unhealthy and in need of intervention but they clearly care more about living vicariously through their idols then the idols themselves.

So this video of predebut Itzy's Ryujin randomly popped up on my feed. I know it's an old video from 2017 and she could have improved a lot by now but to sum up, this performance was really bad. Her dancing was mediocre and her singing was downright awful. What surprises me is how Itzy's fans are blindly praising her in the comments, saying she's amazing and stuff and it's ok for her because she's a rapper. They are so biased it's crazy. The older comments from when she's not in Itzy yet were more critical.

To be fair and objective, I only criticize that 1 video and couldn't care less about her current performance, but to say that video is amazing is a huge lie. Now that I saw that video of V singing awfully above, I get how kpop fans are so blind to the truth even when it's right in front of them. The same goes for Rosé's shrieking banshee voice and how fans are hyping her up for that.

Thing is that Dispatch is not the only outlet through which a dating scandal can happen. That one 17 member got hacked by a random and got his love message video towards 'minkyung-noona' leaked. BamBam/Mina got leaked by people too. Idk if they were dating or not but the picture got leaked nonetheless. Sasaengs are mostly loyal and don't leak dating information, but they're also not the only ones who can get a hold of that information.

This is especially problematic for BTS who have a massive global fanbase. Not only do they have to worry about this on a global scale but paparazzi in other countries might want to get a hold of information about them too for the clicks. Didn't one pap take a photo of Jungkook when they were in Berlin or some European company? So the thing is you never know.

Speaking of JK, the rumor all across weibo last year was that he dated Rose from BP from March to September. Chinese fans usually have the tea but doesn't make it true. Still, though they probably have taken measures to protect them, never say never. No matter how big a Kpop star is or how much money they are bringing into the government, if some geopolitical shit really goes down I have no doubt that the gov would throw BTS under the bus and force a dating scandal out there to distract people like they allegedly used Bom to distract from the Sewol incident. Thing is, even though a BTS dating scandal would generate plenty of frenzy it wouldn't harm the group all that much because their fanbase is too big and they are too big to get taken down by something like that. Even EXO, a relatively smaller group was able to survive 2 dating scandals and 3 lawsuits. So if push comes to shove BTS could easily be used as a sacrificial lamb to cover whatever major scandal the gov might get into. In that case it wouldn't be BTS but the girl that gets caught with them that has to worry.

I have to say I'm impressed, I did not expect that much production to be honest. I don't see any difference from other korean debuts or songs. They definitely have the style down, besides the fact that it's not in korean.

But the problem of "non koreans" still persist. I will be VERY surprised if they do well.

They are Z-pop or some bullshit like that, so I guess they are trying to create a loophole to justify that they are not koreans. I guess they are trying to make it on all asian countries, they are not particularly aiming for Korea. So I will give them a pass, considering most asian countries are stealing kpop concept as well. It's diferent from EXP Edition that specifically wanted to be labeled kpop and wanted to sing in korean, while they were middle aged looking whtie guys.

I've already seen people saying both songs are too childlish or something like that lol that's what happens when you understand the lyrics, all kpop songs sound like that.

NCT 127's Haechan had a convo leaked where he was talking to one of his fansite masters, calling them noona and being all uwu with them while trash talking Taeyong. Male idols definitely use their stalkers for various kinds of gratification which is probably part of the reason why companies don't go after them. IDK about the kkt conversation, but he was definitely speaking to multiple fansites or sasaengs. And the taeyong comments were pretty much confirmed too. Now here's my bit of tinfoiling - he could have been trying to sweet talk them into giving him more exposure over taeyong, or trying to get laid. Either way, clearly idols aren't terrified of all sasaengs and can easily be in regular contact with them as long as there's no period blood letters or something involved

Why are BlackPink fans celebrating their North American concert being half-sold to scalpers who immediately jacked up the price to around 5x the original sale? Why are they once again falling for YG's mediaplay when it has been proven that their concerts in Korea/japan needed tickets to be given away, prices slashed, and bundled with incentives for fans to get better deals of BTS tickets?

For most of the shows, half of the venue seems to be in the hands of scalpers that have made basic-level seats unaffordable for regular fans. BP will be dancing in half-empty arenas. What's to celebrate, or are the fans that deep in denial?

Idols are fucking stupid honestly, willing to risk their sanity just to get some gifts from fansite masters.
Sulli used to be good friends with that one crazy sasaeng fansite she had, that one woman was like 40-something and managed to bully all the other Sulli fansites into closing down. Then when Sulli left the group she turned on her and spilled some nasty tea about how she hated promoting, didn't really like her members and other stuff. That crazy bitch tried to latch onto Irene later but Irene had a lot of fansites from her predebut days so she couldn't weasel her way in to become Irene's only fan.

Blackpink fans are constantly wasting their time convincing people that Blackpink has the potential to be the next big girl group in the US. It’s ridiculous. Blackpink will never be big in the US. They’re so convinced of that so they’ll use the concert sales to prove their point. If Blackpink actually releases an English album for the US it will be their downfall. If YG doesn’t fuck them up one of the members will. I can’t wait for them to disappear.

Hyuna/Edawn kind of ruined dating scandals for me. Kai/Jennie was amusing at first because all the new kpop fans couldn't comprehend a dating scandal where none of the fans reacted poorly so they either had to dredge up stale old drama (mainly the Taeyeon and Krystal stans) or acted like H/E magically made obsessive fans change their mind about idols dating. It's funner when the fan reaction is underwhelming so overly performative fans don't have the opportunity to do their 'let idols be human!' circlejerk.

Though it'd be nice to have another higher profile dating scandal. Dispatch miscalculated Kai/Jennie because they're both super bland and that iKon/Momoland couple was a nonevent.

Jennie/Kai flopped because Kai has already been caught once and EXO is passed their peak. If it had been Jennie with a BTS member the reaction would have been far more insane. Usually the reaction depends on the status of the idols involved and whether or not they're seen to 'match' to the Korean public.

I don't know about Kang Daniel making that much of a splash anymore since there was already a dating scandal with that one rapper girl who was on Unpretty Rapstar. But it depends on who he's caught with and how big he gets as a solo.

Good point about Kang Daniel and that girl (jidam I think). His fans didn't have that bad of a reaction but maybe that was only because it was a previous some instead of a current relationship. He also has a lot of noona fans too that transcend the idol fan label. Hwang Minhyun has a bunch of crazy akgaes on the other hand.

Taeyong looks like a flesh eating alien. He was already weird looking but SM just couldn't leave his face alone and chopped him up and made him look 10x weirder and then on top of that he goes and shops half his jaw off. If they wanted Jaejoong they should have just treated him better back when he was in TVXQ. Most of NCT are scary looking and some of that is SM's fault. Why would I sign up to that company knowing that if they want to hack off my jaw or implant a block of wood into it, I'd have no recourse to say no. Look what they did to Wendy!

NCT's fandom is wild af. Talked shit about American validation until SM announced their week of desperation in America back in October and suddenly fans were so sure they'd blow up. When NCT got #80 on the BB200 after all that payola the only thing NCT fans could brag about was them being the 2nd highest bg on the billboard charts (before EXO came back). That entire NCT fandom is made up of SM stans, ex-EXO fans and BTS antis who deluded themselves into thinking NCT isn't some kind of freakshow failed project with shit music. Simon Says starts with a group of men sounding like they're threatening to murder the listener before the song starts. What the hell was SM thinking?

SM put millions of US dollars into NCT, countless promotions, projects, videos, high budget music videos, sticking them everywhere, giving them pre-debut promotion to (like when the japanese member stole that other japanese idol's Abnormal Summit job, and all the music show mc gigs for the NCT trainees before U debuted) only to end up with a middling group that can barely compete with groups like Got7 sales wise. They've got 18 members in NCT127 and can barely compete with Twice. SM got too greedy.

Alright I like Loona somewhat but people are absolutely delusional if they think Loona will be the GG BTS in terms of future popularity and trend-setting. I see Loona taking the path of Oh My Girl or worse, WJSN, since 1) the general public will not care to pay attention to a girl group with more than 9 members, 2) their label is apparently running out of the budget which could be seen in the Hi High outfits, 3) they have a bunch of filler members that detract from the main girls.

If BBC is smart and considers this, they'd be better doing the subunits and marketing the girls in smaller groups to form the big group for concerts and stuff for their fans. On top of the subunits they have now, I'd say that they'd benefit from making a group of five with Heejin, Chuu, Kim Lip, Yves, and someone else not totally useless (Olivia Hye, Jinsoul?) to create a super group out of the members that they currently have. When it comes to the full line-up, I'd say that getting rid of Yeojin, Gowon, Vivi, and Haseul would be progress already. Choerry isn't especially talented either. Before people rip into me for including Haseul, I'm aware that she's a good vocalist but her performance on stage is pretty bland and she'd be better off not being an idol imo.

I write this as someone who wants the best for the group, however I justify this as a critical post considering Loona fans would screech at my suggestion to cut members from the group since they're the most useless. Tbh this isn't the first group that I would suggest that for as most groups have filler members which is why we have so many ~incredible~ rappers in kpop.

I don't stan them and probably won't because I know that Loona is likely going to fail unless they downsize and appeal more to Korean GP. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Jealousy and kpop go hand in hand. Don't need to be a fan to see that. K-Pop is ridiculously competitive, more so than even American pop fandom which is saying something given how insane Navy, beehive, monsters etc. are. Korean society is competitive and a lot of Korean values are embedded within the very system of Kpop and fans take their cue. Jealousy, bitterness and competitiveness come with the territory and will only get worse as more groups debut and more fandoms form. It doesn't take a fan to realize that BTS's success in and of itself pissed off a lot of people for a lot of reasons, many legitimate, some not, and one of those reasons is absolutely the insane competition.

TXT’s album preorders have exceeded 100K within 3 days and it fails to amaze me how hypercompetitive and blind kpop fans are. There’s literally nothing that shows their talent yet you’re willing to order dozens of albums? Oh course it’s armys doing this and interesting seeing how this is the same privilege they scream about towards big3 groups.
