nonna i'm deeply jealous of someone in the fandom i'm it. said person joined the fandom way later than me but she gained so much traction in such a short time. her drawing skill isn't even that good either, her anatomy is all fucked up. the subject matters in her art is also not interesting (pretty girls standing in colored backgrounds) but people seem to lap that shit up. the only "good" thing about her art is the color, which she admitted is just filter abuse. she can't even bother to choose her own colors goddammit. i know obsessing about this is stupid but i can't stop thinking about it. what should i do???

>>2477099Ideally, ignore her. But otherwise, do you really care about the attention of people with such shit taste? The kind who’ll follow a crappy artist as long as she draws cute girls? Twitter popularity is total bs and there was a time where destinytomoon could easily get 20k(probably still could if she ever came back kek), the bad artists who get popular are just a variation of her but with waifus.
Also, focus on improving your own art, developing any personal projects you have in mind, and growing an audience who appreciates your art and skill. It’ll be slower instead of providing instant social media dopamine, but in the end it’s more satisfying than an audience gained through low-quality waifu art.

Like there's these two youtubers in my country who go on 3 vaccations a year! and still have money to buy expensive tech. People throw so much money on the spiritual influencers and I noticed people on facebook are interrested in paintings with spiritual themes, angels, abstracts, lots of warm colors and shit like that. If i add some yapping about my paranomal experinces i bet i can make it. Just wish i had the time to start already and not be in debt rn. So i guess try finding a specific community like this that doesn't have troons in it.

>>2477099A lot of the time these fandom artists are either constantly posting engagement bait, or they have actually relevant fandom discussions that attract people to follow them. If people enjoy interacting with the artist, they'll interact with their art too, even if it's not as good. So you can keep that in mind.
Besides that, simple colorful drawings look good on the timeline, so people repost those fast without thinking.
If you don't like her posts and art, just mute her. You can't do much about it in the end.

>tfw one of my biggest art goals is to be mutuals and friends with a big artist
>but she’s in her early 40s and has been getting less active on social media each passing year
>my following count is more or less stagnant, and events that could’ve made it possible for her to notice me are getting more rare
Does anyone else feel frustrated that they missed the era of when the big artists were super active on social media and just talked and interacted more often in general? It was mostly when tumblr was super popular and twitter was also gaining traction. I’m younger than most of the big name artists that most of the online art community should know, the ones where if you checked their profile, hundreds of artists you follow can be seen listed also following them. It’s like a whole big exclusive club where most people know each other. During this era, my art obviously sucked while a lot of these people already had tens of thousands of followers, or were already in the industry. So I was too late to ever be part of the cool kids. And artists my age all seem lame as fuck in comparison, mostly gendie zoomers.
I’m so incredibly jealous of all the artists who managed to become mutuals and friends with her. I just know she’d also love my art too, we share many similar interests and tastes. And I can’t stop thinking about how old she’ll be if I ever make it big enough to be noticed, or if she (or I) dies before ever noticing me. I feel her noticing my art would be the most rewarding person ever and no one else really matters, so if she ever disappears off the internet then I might lack enthusiasm and motivation to draw again, because what’s the point if my most valued “senior” will never see it. I just want her approval so much
No. 2477735
>>2477700Normally, most anons on this site would eat you alive with "why do you care" "just draw for you" but honestly? Same. It was especially so during the Homestuck era, where these amazing artists would just pop up like Punpunipunchu. But what always baffled me was when I would see shitty artists or people who outright never drew at all become very close to her or other artists I admired at the time. I did get noticed by my favorites, but it came by way of someone reposting something I drew in her inbox, and she was super happy to see it and was super excited as to how it looked. But they didn't source me or let me know. So by the time I'd found out my favorite artist saw something of my own and loved it, they'd already gone offline entirely or died. Fucks me up to this day despite being probably a decade ago.
It also feels a bit sad to
become one of those fandom seniors? Like when all of your idols have gone on to either quit the trade or fandom, or got hired professionally, leaving inly… you. Just
you, who idk anout you anon, but I see myself as being insanely boring art-wise. But there's nobody around that particular fandom that isn't shilling gendie arts or zoomie slop (the many styles that get dunked on regularly here), and it's so… hollow?
I get what you mean, honest. Like you inherited a throne that sits on skeletons or dung or whatever super dramatic thing someone else could come up with. And then the cycle repeats, and you now get the shitty art in the inboxes of people who admired you the same way you admired your idols. A noose-worthy experience. I don't know how to "draw for myself". I only know how to draw to appease a select few.

>>2477735>But what always baffled me was when I would see shitty artists or people who outright never drew at all become very close to her or other artists I admired at the time. That's because those people talk to them. I know a mediocre artist who's been stuck under 5k for years who is mutuals with some really popular artists (like 80-100k) that are way above her skill level just because she reached out to them first and knows how to keep a conversation going. A lot of online artists are somewhat lonely or don't have (m)any fandom friends so they'll be happy to engage. Followers and skill levels don't really matter
No. 2477880
>>2477735Sorry for the long post. That inbox thing is terrible, art reposters who don’t credit the source are the worst. I’m glad you know what I’m talking about nona. Homestuck era is a great way to describe that time period. Everyone was younger back then so people had more time and energy to post art and socialize with other artists, I remember seeing tweets from an artist saying how sad they were that artists don’t really talk to each other on social media anymore as much as they used to. I guess all the big artists are too busy with jobs and general adult stuff these days. Elon making the site shittier every year also isn’t helping, so many people refuse to post there now or just started posting considerably less.
I never really thought about eventually becoming one of the “seniors” in the art community. Probably because I always flop and get ignored. A bit off topic but I always think about how aging will be like in this age of internet, where people you’ve known for years will slowly stop posting until old age and you’ll never know what happened to them, and just assume they died? Thinking about what social media will be like when we’re actually old was always bleak.
Anyway it would still be nice if I became a famous artist that a lot of people look up to, but having artists that you look up to is also nice. I just want all these artists I admire to be impressed with me. I feel nothing but jealousy when I see all these artists on instagram I follow like each other’s posts regularly. None of them ever followed me back so my art just isn’t amazing enough and it stings.
Honestly I think having a proper and personal art community for me would help a lot with my happiness when it comes to art. I’m jealous of anyone who has a close group of artist friends. I find it so annoying how none of my friends are artists. I do have some online artist mutuals, and I was invited to a discord that consisted of a mutual’s art friends but it’s mostly dead and I’m not really close with anyone there. And on the other hand I’m in a ton of larger servers that focus on art but of course there’s no real sense of coziness or familiarity there.
There was talk about people finding someone else to draw ocs with in the last thread and it sounds so fun. I wish I could join those dnd group projects with other artist friends. I just realized that I don’t have any close art friends in real life or online, which is probably a big reason why I yearn for attention from big artists.

>>2477865>Just send her a message if you think you have a lot in commonEhh I don’t know nona, this person has over 100k followers and I’d just die if they were the type to ignore randos in their dm. What would I even say? Hey I like your art and we have a lot of similar interests, check out my page and see if you want to follow me too?
I actually did reply under a post once where she was drawing other people’s ocs, and of course that got a ton of replies and I remember that one of the replies that was chosen was a newer reply than mine, so she probably saw my oc post too and ignored it since she didn’t even leave a like. To be fair I don’t think she liked every post, but still, maybe she wouldn’t be as impressed with my art than I thought and it’s just my hopeful wishing as usual.
>That's because those people talk to them. That’s also another thing, I admit that I’m the type to judge others when they try cozying up to big artists. I just can’t help but see it as very fake and desperate, so it’s embarrassing to me. I know it’s kinda hypocritical when I also said I wished artists would socialize with each other more, I guess I’m just too much of a pussy to make a change myself.
I would only consider leaving comments on other posts if we’re mutuals already. If this person isn’t following and they’re a much bigger artist? Nope x2. I just can’t stand the thought of my followers and other mutuals seeing my pathetic ass trying to get a big artist’s attention on their timeline kek. The view counter on tweets make the whole thing even worse, imagine tweeting “omg I love your art sm” under a popular artist’s post, and it gets zero likes and has 3k views. Fucking hate elon so much.
I guess the most direct way of me trying to get this person’s attention would be to draw her ocs. I could post it using her hashtag for her comic since I’m too afraid of @ing her directly, but since she’s barely active she probably will never see it. Even if I was brave enough to @ her, she still might not see it so I’ll look like a fool in front of my followers, or another terrible situation where she DOES see it, likes it and comments, but doesn’t follow me. At that point I’d give up tbh.
For the record, she did used to follow a lot of artists when she was active, and when she made bluesky I noticed that she followed a bunch of new different people including young artists, so I thought following her on bluesky would be my best shot at being noticed but whelp, nothing came out of it

I just realized that I don’t have any close art friends in real life or online, which is probably a big reason why I yearn for attention from big artists.I was thinking about making some sort of fun OC shipping thing in /m/, but I'm kind of stupid when it comes to making threads. I'll look more into it and try to make one, since it seems like something a lot of drawfags on here want. I know I want it; I miss it. During those Homestuck days, nearly everyone talked to one another and shipped OCs. Tumblr is still kind of dead, but that makes whatever remains rather cozy. I'm not going to pretend like communicating with people is easy on there, but I noticed fujos stick together and artists that avoid doing the diversity thing also seem to be magnetized towards one another. I started recently just commenting on this one Japanese artist's art (they're bilingual I think, and seem to meme too hard to be using Google Translate), and they seemed EXTREMELY happy to talk. I'm hoping it goes somewhere, since I'm tired of the gendies being the ones that want to interact all the time.
Hope this doesn't sound shallow nona, but I'm on this thread nearly 24/7 out of loneliness, so I kinda get the feeling you have lol

>>2477700I get what you mean but not as an artist. I followed many artists from many countries on tumblr and pixiv, and then on twitter because we were into the same series or video games, more than 10 years ago. The Japanese ones all nuked their tumblr accounts long ago and only post on twitter about their professionally published books that almost never get officially translated where I am nowadays, best case scenario they'll sometimes retweet videos of cats and birds and post one generic fanart of the new popular shonenslop anime of the year. The ones from Western countries have been harassed online so much based on bullshit like which husbando they married in Fire Emblem they stopped posting as much as they used to or deleted everything. The ones who still post only post personal stuff for their own irl friends completely unrelated to art and fandom or they only annonce which comics or cartoons they're working on, or in which cons they'll sell prints. The most they'll do is reply "thanks a lot" to whoever try to strike a conversation with them if they don't know each other so I don't try. The ones who went pro are most likely still a bit paranoid they'll be deemed too
problematic for their industry and blacklisted after dealing with harassment over weeb video games and husbandos so I understand why they try to seem as neutral as possible though. Some of them decided to post way more on bluesky to avoid bots polluting their notifications but not that many of them.

>>2477903The /m/ thread sounds like a fun idea, but unfortunately I don’t think I’d ever post my art/ocs on this site because of gendie lurkers who could possibly rat me out if they recognized me. Reminds me of when this general decided to join artfight and created a tag to identify other farmers but some self hating troonie here tattletaled to the af mods and got people here banned. I still hope that people who can post their art here freely will enjoy the thread if it’s ever made.
>>2477905That’s sad, following artists for a specific interest/fandom is always hard since most of them will stop drawing that particular fandom. That’s why true dedicated autists are so special like that famous Hyouka artist who was bullied off the internet.
I don’t have a particular fandom I wanted to see from artists since I follow for their art style only, so most of the artists I love still post at least regularly thankfully. But I always make sure to save their art in a folder on my pc regularly in case they ever delete everything and I encourage nonas to do the same. #pasture for sure is specific so I can see why it was easy to spot nonnies ocs out in the wild. Perhaps using the #farmer tag for ocs would be better, since there’s no doubt many characters tagged as farmer already? Sorry to vent but it just came to mind; when I was 12 or so my mom took me to an art club for their paint evening with an art teacher as a fun mother-daughter activity. I was the only child there, people in the club were nice and didn't have a problem with it. But halfway through the (hired) art teacher stopped the class to evaluate our works so far and she specifically out of all the paintings picked up my painting. Which was super obviously done by a kid, the only kid there. It really looked like the most stereotypical child painting with cute colorful creatures like picrel (but worse), you couldn't mistake it for anything else among the adult paintings. And this grown ass woman goes on to criticize it harshly in front of all the adults, knowing full well it's done by a literal child. She even pointed out things like "even if it looks nice this way… if you turn it on the side it's ruined because the subject is central to the painting" as if that's even a problem?! We were not instructed to do anything abstract or turnable like that btw. She then picks up adult paintings praising what I had done wrong and they had done right - no negatives about the others. I still get upset thinking about it to this day, it's a wonder I even kept doing art at all after she humiliated me like that in front of adults.

HOW DARE I ask her for critique outside of class. That made me feel like shit as a young teen. Loser art teachers are the worst.

Very… strange but hardly interesting at the time.AYRT and I watched her for her story times as well but eventually she stopped doing them and focused more on art related topics. I don't know if I would call her a full cow but more like a semi-cow because of her lack of self awareness to her own art and her constant excuses for various things in her life. She's kind of like Amberlynn Reid but not
abusive, just whiny and lazy.
Like discussed in last thread, she's been on a job hunt but has the most ridiculous standards despite her not working an IRL job for close to 10 years now.
>Applied at a UPS store and didn't want to work there because she feared she'd get "hate-crimed" for being "nonbinary" and getting "misgendered" by not getting referred to with "they/them" pronouns.>Wants to make above minimum wage but is not willing to work a job that would pay that like warehouses and computer-related jobs. But she more or less thinks retail is beneath her because she claims to make more money doing her art yet frequently opens for emergency commissions.>Believes that she was discriminated from a job opportunity because she put that she is Jewish on her job application and can't work on Fridays and Saturdays to which the job was given to someone else. Mmind you, she doesn't practice Judaism and that she more than likely didn't get the job because she put that she couldn't work Friday and Saturday.>Continually she goes on and on about how great she is with her line art and coloring yet seems to be allergic to practicing her anatomy and foundations and her style quality is picrel.>Went a whole 9 months not having her period and thinking that was normal only to finally go to the doctor when she started experiencing excruciating pain. All of this is kind of cowish behavior in my view but despite her ridiculousness, I'm not sure if I would call her a full-blown lolcow because she's not as active on her YouTube and her cowish behavior is mostly seen on her Twitch where she says all kinds of dumb things.
>I think some folks were mentioning how she was making a POC sona while being white or some shit??I don't remember that, her character that she uses is a black cyclops cat but I don't recall people saying that that was racist. I think you're probably thinking about PonderSprocket? She initially had a

POC character when she's a white woman.

And also another good point about Disneyland being next to it, it makes sense why people would rather spend a lot of money at Disneyland vs a con which when you think about it, is kinda crazy that they'd have the con be in that location lol
But the thing with this woman is that almost every con she works, most of them she said that she didn't make all that much money aside from making her table back but also always felt the need to tell the viewer that all the other artist alley artists were doing just as bad and with how frequently she would say this, I just had to give some side eye, especially when it's coming from an artist who's quality is picrel to where it's not surprising why an artist like her may not get as much sales compared to others who have a more refined style.

It probably doesn't help that zoomers don't seem to have a style that defines their generation unlike previous generations (70-80s = punks & goths, 90s = grunge, 00s - mall emos and scenekids). He was an official artist for blue archive, specifically the anime and I think all he’s done was just draw an official illustration for them. His accounts have gotten suspended many times. So that’s why I’ve always hated these retarded pedo memes and everyone who repeats them, because they were already unfunny and pedoshit but the moid behind them is an unironic literal pedo who wants to rape kids, which is something that most people who parrot these probably don’t know.

sorry for the art vent, nonas. I draw a lot for free, for friends, etc. and have had personal accounts for over two decades. I've never had any real attention over my work on these types of sites, I mostly go underground and ignored. But recently, a friend of mine had started posting my art that I've made for the OCs as apart of their profile. And that person has been getting a wave of compliments for the artwork. I just feel really weird about it. It's his OC, so I don't want to seem like I'm overstepping by saying I'm not comfortable with having my stuff shown. How do nonas deal with having their stuff public at all? He's not an artist, so I'd feel kinda mean by saying he can't use it, it is his character, after all. And it's not necessarily that I'm uncomfortable with someone using it, just that it's being seen. But why do I even feel this way, why do I feel so strongly about it? god I'm cooked.

Your case reminds me of the copic baggers back then, they all thought their art was better for using alcohol markers when they had shit color palettes and didn't even blend, a crayola set would've sufficed for their level.

An epoch of autism creatures, blobslop comics about how much you love your friends, retarded cat memes hastily slapped onto shitty chickenscratch drawings, inoffensive safe edgy jokes, progressive commentary that isnt saying anything actually new or controversial (riot grrrl, kill your abuser), vanilla kink stuff that the author positions as something so innovative its gonna make those dumb cishetetonormative normies go bald from stress. People are allergic to thinking with their own heads, to drawing with their own hands. Everything is rehearsed. Recycled. Turned into neat catchphrases that are vague enough for you to slap them on almost anything. Toxic old man yaoi. Tboy swag. Morally grey. Doomed yuri. Cannibalism as a metaphor for love. Weird girls. You love weird girls, right? Remmember that you are a product. Problematic. Realistic depiction of mental illness. Loving like a dog. Words and phrases get repeated so much that they lose all of their bite. Everytime something new comes out it gets swallowed by the fandom and regugitated into the same sludge theyve all seen before, forced into the same tired tropes. Labels dont have meaning anymore. Artstyles all look the same, vaguely human shaped blobs of bright shapes and colors, and dont forget to slap pronoun pins on it!

>>2486579It's because everything has to be meme-able content or some kind of reference to something. That's what happened to most entertainment. If you look at popular anime, for example, almost everything is a self cannibalized trope of something that's already been iterated on 50 times over. It's one thing to have your influences, but another thing entirely to only have other anime as a frame of reference for creativity. It's like no one has any interests of their own, so there's nothing to say; just pump out the same art and stale memes because they saw it did numbers. As soon as a popular meme starts cropping up I try to mute it if it has a tag.
And of course the people eating all of it up talk about wanting something different, but when something different comes along, it's largely ignored.
It's just healthy to get away from the internet art scene at large. At this point, I retreated from it. I don't even go to many artist alleys anymore because it's just more internet meme art that's leaked into meatspace.

The internet is bigger than it used to be 10 years ago, people are doing what they've always done and use ways to signal to the outside world their group preferences or "tribe". People in the same tribe will copy each other so you end up seeing the same art meme until it dies.
But also some of the stuff you point out like "morally grey" i think was a desire to see change in art but people were afraid to vocalise it until someone did, now it's everywhere. Same with "media literacy" even though you didn't mention it, it probably fits in.

>I want to bully bad art in DMs with someone without them collecting evidence on some future callout post they're planning. If it helps, I'd suggest testing the waters by trashing some art in a voice chat so there's no record if the other person reveals themself as the type to cry about how mean you are on social media. My friend was a little gendie-poisoned as well, but also was a little bit of a man-hater, so maybe that's a trait to look out for? I feel like shit-talking men and being gnc myself got her to drop her gendie labels and the bulk of her gendie retardation. She's not perfect in that respect, but she's now comfortable enough to vent about pornsick TIMs to me without guarding her language too much and that's honestly farther than I ever thought she'd get, especially since I haven't purposefully tried to peak her. I don't do any gendie shit myself, but I also only share my true feelings on the matter if I can find a polite or innocuous way to communicate it.
>>2486892>I just don't get the appeal of making fun of bad art?Sometimes art's bad in a really weird or interesting way or the artist is way too conceited for their level of skill and I find the mismatch funny. It's just nice to have someone you can nitpick a literal who in DMs with (I only post bad/weird art on LC if it's by an exceptionally popular artist or the art is exceptionally bad because I feel like an asshole otherwise) for a minute or two. This might be overselling it, but I also think it keeps me more critical of my own art and motivated to improve while also keeping it light (if I'm only laughing at this literal who's art for a minute, then whoever might be looking at my art and similarly laughing is probably laughing for about as long–that's the idea anyway).

>>2487010I wonder if brujo is a lesbian with a homophobic family. The fact that kate is so sexualized despite being an outcast/nlog and the fact her Trent rip off is a TIF makes me wonder if she just has internalized homophobia. Kate is so sexualized, she looks nothing like the outcast type characters in the cartoons she wants to imitate.

tama again just drawing everyone else's face looking like herself like the narc she is. she does it so often she can't even draw the rest of the body correctly and her lame zoomer fans eat it up because its dressed up in a tired y2k aesthetic.

>>2486892>just don't get the appeal of making fun of bad art? What if it belonged to a kid or someone with zero interest in improving? ayrt What I consider bad art is different from what is posted on this site. For instance, I find
>>2486972 every time this artist is posting, there isn't anything there to critique? It's not fancy, it's not alluring, it's uneventful save for the pronouns I presume this artist had included on a character. Her art isn't bad. Things like blueberry art, diaper fetish, things that are inherently questionable, have a colossal amount of social media interaction as if it holds some inherent value? Fair game. If I see a child has made it, no, that does not exempt me from bullying them
in DMs privately with a friend, where the artist can't hear me, if the art is sexual or fetishized. Skill level be damned. Like you said, subject matter is key.
I enjoy doing it or redlining art in my own time privately or with a friend in the past because it is fun. I don't cowtip if that's what you're thinking, so what sad backstory the artist has is probably not going to impact my opinion of the art.

>>2487154ayrt Could be. I know men do it though, because the friends I used to do this with
were men. As much as I can't stand moids a majority of the time, the moid artists I spoke to had a streak of insecurity exactly how I see women on here act. Maybe they do it in specific places, but I've also seen some moids just relax and enjoy drawing. It might be universal, with us women just being more open about the struggle.
Afterall, we've seen how insecure moids het about little things we take for granted kek

>>2486972>>2487498i dont fully dislike her art but the simple faces next to all the detail looks kinda silly to me, especially comparing it to other 2000's cartoons or even just any animated show that can have a cohesive simplistic style instead of wanting dimension and realistic bodies when you're just going to draw a flat head and dot eyes

No. 2487726
>>2486579not to derail but i've noticed something similar happening with the artists themselves - not only is art starting to look the same, but most of these internet artists try to act the same way too, to seem "relatable". maybe it's just me, but it's so odd that it's become normal for artists to be TMI-level open on their public accounts: complaining about everything, mental illness sperging, using the same buzzwords all the time like broken records. think mgong and how she constantly freaks out over every little thing.
i understand this could be an effect of the current algorithms that demand a 24/7 stream of content but i miss when artists just quietly posted their work and shut up. it's beyond bizarre to see an artist you look up to post their work and immediately follow it up with a post or IG story about how their self-diagnosed schizophrenia is making them act up or whatever.

Her issues with anatomy became more glaring and her drawings became less interesting/dynamic, and I don’t think she’s improved much on either of those.
