The ending was a bit rushed, tbh I liked the slow pacing and order the books had. In this, they cut a lot of dialogue out and moved things around in a way that I'm not sure I liked. it's less justifiable that Subaru wouldn't have noticed Julius wasn't there when they came all together to decide what to do about Wrath, plus since he wasn't there at that point they weren't able to discuss what they're really planning to do moving forward. I get that they were going for a parallel "Who's Rem?" cliffhanger to season one (though they originally backed out of doing that for the official anime release due to not being sure if the anime would be successful) but I liked how originally, Subaru began walking around and trying to see if anybody would remember him. Julius getting uncomfortable, being miserable, as his identity is completely erased, he cherished being a knight so much, then he saw it get all wiped out where even his friends saw him as a stranger. Having him meet a brother he no longer remembers, wondering if its better to sleep forever rather than be forced to face having everything taken away, it was painful in a good way.
I also didn't like how they cut the walk to Wrath's prison. In the novels, it gave almost a "going to the back alleys in OoT" sort of vibe where the farther they go, the more quiet and melancholy it gets. The shift from talking to bright optimistic characters, to arrogant and serious characters, then just Al sitting alone and in a bad mood, before reaching Sirius tied down in her chair singing an uncanny song had a nice mood to it. I also wished they went harder with showing how uncanny and terrifying Sirius was to Subaru, how what she was saying was affecting him badly (I did like the neck lick though). She was meant to be humming something unholy, something demonic that was stirring the dark impulses inside Subaru that he's been trying to deny.
That being said, my favorite arc is getting animated! I'm still really excited about this, I love this arc so much I've must have read it at least a dozen times. I never mean to, but I remember a scene and just have to look it up and I end up rereading the whole thing. I'm trying to keep my hype down, but I really hope they uncut some of the scenes that were taken out of the light novel release. Just thinking about it is making me excited, he looked so cute in his new travel outfit, the orange scarf that's wrapped around his neck in a little bow is the best. I hope it doesn't fall off when he cries.

I think dark blue and green hair in anime might've originated in stylized black/dark brown hair. Jotaro and other delinquent characters from his era and earlier made me realize this: they all had black hair, but in colored illustrations the artists used blue for lighting. It just looks cool against the bold black ink.
Ironically, while they made Jonathan's hair blue, they ended up using black for Jotaro (both hair and outfit) in the TV anime. I don't hate it, but it led to blueish Jotaro practically disappearing from fanart for a while.
My JoJo husbando had one unnatural hair color in the anime, but in the digitally colored manga he had another palette. I remember preferring the digital manga colors (though which colors I used in art varied from drawing to drawing), and although a lot of fanart with the anime colors came out around that time, many of his fanartists also used several palettes. It probably helped that he's a minor character.

But I seem to remember that some people already made jokes about Maxie being a nerd before ORAS was even revealed, though I don't know if this is an anime English dub-only thing since I never got deep into fandom.
I love anime OG Maxie's voice in English btw. It's very cute.Did you know that Team Magma was originally going to be called "Team Tunnel" and Team Aqua was going to be called "Team Marine"? This was already known before the Teraleak; IIRC it was found in some European R/S version's source code that was leaked a few years ago. But now, we also know that Maxie was going to be a lead Devon researcher in his 40s called Urushida, and Archie was going to have Captain Stern's name (Kusunoki). Urushida would have been secretly funding Team Tunnel with Devon resources and Kusunoki would've been a gym leader, but also, he would've stolen the Mossdeep Space Center rocket to send pokémon to a faraway place to save them from extinction. Proto-Maxie would've been evil(?) while proto-Archie would've been a heroic character whose actions would've been misinterpreted as evil. Pretty cool.
There may be a reference to proto-Maxie's Devon background in ORAS. Shelly and Tabitha are supposed to have been Devon employees before joining their respective organizations.
I would've preferred the original plot, honestly. Maybe with some modifications.
Back on topic. Him being a researcher/nerd was already there from the start, they just changed his backstory so much in the final version of RS that he ended up feeling like a generic evil guy (probably trying to make him more like Giovanni, as someone else pointed out) who had nearly the same personality and dialogue as Archie (this is mostly in Ruby/Sapphire; in Emerald they obviously had to be a bit more unique). Say what you want about the design and the whole nerd thing, but it's undeniably a good thing that ORAS Maxie and Archie were given actual, separate personalities in the games. They actually act and speak in completely different ways regardless of game version. Which brings me back to my previous point: the nerd thing in his ORAS version didn't come out of nowhere. In a way, the character was just "returning to his roots". I also used to be confused as to why they changed him so radically in the remakes, but now that we know they were likely just drawing inspiration from the initial plans they had for him, it all makes sense.
