It's terrible but it's integral to this arc. Honestly they needed more German. Half way through the new episode they just stopped and switched to Japanese and we missed and important crumb to a plot line. Also a the characters are supposed to be struggling with a language barrier. It's just weird that they didn't keep things consistent.

I'll endure any bug-eyed new Blood Plus adaptation as long as they dont retcon Diva's daughters' ahem, origins.
Early 2000 anime did have some interesting female rapist villains where their intentions were not even remotely played for laughs and/or titillation. Dante's goal in the first FullMetal Alchemist adaptation was literally keeping Edward as a sex slave

It's worth checking out if you like spokon and can accept the personified racehorse premise kek. Anime-wise the first season isn't that good imo since it has fanservice and CGDCT elements, but they shifted focus from season 2 onwards so everything after S1 was enjoyable to me - the Cinderella Gray manga is my favorite so I'm glad the anime looks like it'll be good. That said a big part of Uma's popularity in Japan is how detailed and faithful it is to real horse racing history, but I'd say it's still pretty fun even without that knowledge. Some of the anime like the Road to the Top OVA and Cinderella Gray is available officially on youtube with English subs, and you don't need to have seen any of the prior seasons to watch them, so you could check those out to see if it's your thing.

it also has really bad direction, like some of the shots are on the screen for such a short time it's hard to figure out what you're looking at, especially when they introduced the character at the end they could have let the image linger for a moment so you can actually take a good look at her but no. I was looking forward to it but dropped after this one ep, it's only going to get worse.

The first episode was a snoozefest + random music videoesque scenes. The overall story diresction was choppy and the animation felt very half done in certain scenes.

Yup. A lot of the criticism is "I wasn't paying attention/I don't care enough to follow what's going on/I blame the author for things the anime messed up on/I don't like the genre so it must be bad" too.

I can name a ton honestly, in fact a lot of my favourite anime are that.
But, I'm specifically thinking about Sunday Without God: while not a favourite of mine, I really liked it since I thought the premise was kind of novel (then again I didn't usually watch anime like it when it first came out 12 years ago) and I was genuinely saddened it wasn't as well received as I thought it would.

When I was on SeventhStyle back then (that site is dead thank god), so many people were harsh on it (including those who watched it) that it made me lose nearly any faith in wanting to watch similar anime to that, but then I stumbled upon a review from a popular anime site that had a kindly written, unbiased positive review of it, so it made me feel a bit better about it, but not much.

There are a number of other anime that I really liked only to get soured by reading a lot of people's online thoughts, sometimes due to constructive criticism but especially for more pointless reasons too.

Lazarus seems like a show written in the years following the Cowboy Bebop hype, but because it wasn't good enough, it got shelved until Watanabe decided to profit off Netflix's willingness to pay in gold bars for junk. Goto's backstory messed me up, I can't say I didn't see it coming but I was so blindsided it's insane. I thought the twist would be that he's a virgin loser who pretends he has a girlfriend to cope with his loser status in a comedic way, not that his high school sweetheart got possibly kidnapped and murdered after school and he nevee got over it even a decade later until he turned into a schizo. It was really well done imo. I need to rewatch the anime, watching it as it aired was already a wild ride but binge watching it 12 years later must be fun too.

I love Gyokuen from Magi. One of the best shounen main antagonists. It's her own son right here btw. She killed her husband and elder sons and left him alive just to taunt him for his weakness. Although her goal has nothing to do with men, she only sees motherhood as way to create more vessels.
Too bad the anime stopped right where the good parts of manga begin. Second half of the manga is so good…

I’d recommend watching them just because I recently rewatched CCS and actually realized I liked a lot of the filler episodes. A lot of the filler is pretty well made with cute character interactions and sweet moments. Skip them if you hate Mei or just really don’t care for monster of the week shenanigans (but in that case, I’d wonder why you were watching the show in the first place lol). CCS is a weekly kids show so I think if you watch it just wanting to see the plot get on with, you won’t enjoy it as much as if you just take in the vibes of the weekly adventures, but I understand that’s not for everybody.
