>>2467665honestly i think chiikawa is less egregious since like that other anon said it all started off as a comic (originally published on nagano's twitter iirc). the difference is that sanrio/disney/etc are all built around selling merch. sanrio in particular, since mascots typically get merch before featuring in shows or becoming fixtures at puroland. it kinda just hit a sweet spot with the pandemic where a lot of people became obsessed with it and nagano decided to make some sweet bucks off it's success. i do agree that the consoom around it is pretty wacky, though. Plus, there's just something kind of mentally ill to me about owning a large hoard of objects that are so similar-looking and also take up way too much space. I look at my stupid collection and it brings me some happiness I guess but when I think about it objectively, it's extremely retarded. It's become an autistic "gotta collect them all" thing for me as the companies just keep spitting out the same shit but with different colors and increasingly cheaper materials.
Also, blogposting here but I nearly bought another stupid plush animal pillow the other day. However, I managed to stop myself from doing it after thinking more about my mental illness and how poorly-made these products actually are. >>2495075Where are you coming across these products? It might help to limit your exposure to them, and only pay attention to the ones you already have. You’re absolutely right that companies deliberately feed into this urge to collect that many of us have and the best way to resist it is to completely ignore the existence of the new products. You can’t experience FOMO if you’re unaware that you’re ‘missing out’ on anything (because you aren’t, not really, you don’t need any of this stuff). Maybe you can also make a point of saving the money and only treating yourself with something more meaningful occasionally while still building up a little nest egg for yourself. You can do it, anon! After a while large collections become sources of stress (taking up space, collecting filth etc.) so this sounds like a good point to stop adding to it and simply enjoy what you have.

This stuff will outlive me. Especially considering I am chronically ill bordering on disabled.
Why waste my money on this. I like surrounding myself with pretty things, recently I started turning my interest towards artists merch, like prints and badges, but sometimes, when I think of it all realistically… Sure, my room is pretty to me. It's joyful to see my favourite things surrounding me, I also like the feeling of what little control of my life I can get.
But then I remember why I only thrift for clothes and frequent junk and overstock shops and no-buy groups for everything else in my life. Because if it's already in the world, I don't do more damage.
I feel like a hypocrite sometimes. Like I am pretty much eco-friendly, except for my huge fuck-off collections that sometimes feel like the joy of my life, my favourite hobby I can still do (I craft and customize and so and so) and sometimes feel like I am drowning what is left of my life in denial.

Tbh, I am just salty, because she kept 2 bottles bottled the year I was born to drink with me when I graduate university. Then she said it's for my 30th birthday. It started as a way to personalize your bag to show off your hobbies/interests, but somehow people on tiktok have made customization bland because everyone gets the same bag with basically the same combination of accessories that don't even say anything about the owner aside from "trendy". It's always a claw clip, a random ribbon tied into a bow, a gacha plushie, a pointless wrist strap and always one of those stupid coach fruit charms (or a knock-off kek). The bags barely even look lived in, and the charms are always organized in a way that's perfectly "aesthetic". I would just go for a plush strap or rubber, because I am afraid of scratching up my screen with acrylic/metal and having to fix or replace my phone any earlier than absolutely necessary. I am typing this as my phone key strap sways, it's just two extra holes in the case basically, but I've seen people put them through thinner plastic pieces in the case as well, like around the charging port.
Literally have an old piece of shit Redmi with just a clear case. You might find better luck getting a case online though, as most phone shops don't stock old/unpopular models.

>>2538491Samefag, but I LOVE clear cases because they allow me to put not only a strap, but a card of my husbando with some stickers there too.
The clear case is a catch tho. I hate buying new ones, because the old one got yellow and mucky. I tried a bunch of anti-yellowing plastic hacks, like trying to bleach it out and several other things. But it just sticks. I hate that so much. Like, I want my husbando strap and card to look nice, but somehow the phonecases are still being made to be dirtying and yellowing from just your skin contact.
So if you are trying to consume less plastic, be aware of that.
I make a lot of straps and jewellery and accessories myself out of some random junk/thrift shop things, so I think that kind of offsets my impact, but it still gives me a sour taste in my mouth sometimes.
Also also. Just get an awl and put holes through a random case you have for a strap. You're losing nothing.

I've noticed people on TikTok are very actively against minimalism, why is it that? I understand they claim minimalism kills personal style, creativity, etc. But to me that's just bullshit, even if it's true, there's a difference between thinking minimalis is bad and claiming maximalism (and getting all the trash you can) is the best thing ever. >>2552983I think it's less that young people as a group are against minimalism but more that these influencers would be out of a job if people stop buying cheap tacky crap so they go out of their way to demonise it. I think when this generation gets older the tide will turn though. When I was a teenager I used to watch all of those beauty gurus on YouTube with massive hoards of makeup and now the idea of having that much disgusts me and most of the people I used to watch barely get any views now. The average young person will get to a point where they realise they have more stuff that they could ever want and it's just collecting dust once the novelty wears off. Or when they finally move out of their parent's houses they regret it now that they have to deal with it all.
Sidenote: it really pisses me off that brands and influencers have gotten in on the memes about spending too much money. Everyone used to say that once a brand tries to get in on a meme that means the meme is over but now it's just become normalised and I hate it so much. Do young people now really like this kind of content unironically and not see through it? I'm not even a minimalist myself but I've noticed there's so many trendy audios about "I hate minimalism, it's boring" or "minimalism is for rich people or people with no personality" and I don't understand how regular people don't see through it. Influencers want you to buy more products, so of course they're going to say minimalism is for bland boring people and in order to be interesting and well rounded you need to buy whatever they're shilling. Again, I'm not even a minimalist but I think most people who are probably have more of a "personality" than those who sit on tiktok all day convinced they can buy one.

The degradation happens due to simple environmental factors that can't be prevented if you are going to use the case. The only real solution is buying one that has hard clear plastic on the back (such as polycarbonate or acrylic), and non-clear plastic around the edges (as these have to be softer). I have this Spigen Ultra Hybrid case and it has held up very well. The black edges aren't the prettiest, but it beats having a yellow case that you constantly have to rebuy, imo. I wear men's boxers for my underwear, because I am built like a straight ruler and because I enjoy the coverage, but within half a year, these stretch to the point of getting in my ass the exact same as women's underwear do.
I have usually about 15 pairs in rotation, but it pisses me the fuck off that I keep good care of it, no holes or stains or anything, just the fit is becoming wrong.
I've read a bunch on boiling it or whatever, but it doesn't help.
Is it like, normal these days to toss out your underwear after half a year of intermittent wear?
Are there like, ideas or options on what fabrics will keep shape? I am afraid of wearing synthetics over my pussy (many reasons I think you can guess), so I am kinda lost and feel pissed this is even an issue.

It's like a rubber band, in that after wearing/washing, the elastine will come back together. But stretch a rubber band out all day, over and over again, and it will lose the ability to regain it's original shape, like your underwear.
The cotton/natural fibers are mixed around the stretch material, so it is also unable to maintain the original natural strength it would have, before mixed fiber material.
It's a way for manufacturers to claim they are following consumer demands, while producing clothing, that even with the BEST attention, care & hand washing will wear out within 4-5 years, but likely much, much sooner.

victim of racism and homophobia your whole life so they want to cope with fictional characters with big boobs or a slightly chubby stomach so they can pretend they look like that.
>>2568807I don't know how that could work in terms of connections and money. It's a good idea but as other anons said people rely on other options like the library. However your odea reminded me of library boxes or book boxes, I'm not sure how to translate that. I've sold a lot of manga and novels because I needed more space on my shelves and more money, and some of these books were a disappointing but nobody wanted some really cheap classic novels and DVDs so I put them on one of these boxes in a train station and they were gone the next day. I had to really look for it though despite going to that train station everyday and only knew about that one thanks to the book store employee telling me where exactly it was. >>2572687Many of the manga I got rid of had bad translations or editions too so it really depends. Whenever I regret selling my JJBA volumes I remember how some of the texts were in the wrong speech bubbles and how sound effects in my first language.
No. 2573115
>>2572979kek I was thinking about JJBA in French in particular. Stone Ocean was so bad I remember one volume where the pages that explain who the characters are before the story starts had ALL the paragraphs attributed to the wrong characters. Like the green baby's description right under a picture of Pucci. I regretted having to sell my books at the time but when I think about it maybe I shouldn't have bought them in the first place. I only started buying them because the scans for Golden Wind were total shit.
>Older ones seemed to have more care put into themIt really depends on each manga. When I read my older manga I realize how some of the translators must have been lost boomers trying anf utterly failing to make the young characters talk like people their age. Like in Fujoshi Rumi/Otaku Girls. I liked the manga a lot at the time but even when it was being released the characters were saying weird outdated slang for no reason at all. Some pages are completely different if you compare them to the English official translation, not in a good way at all. Black Butler mistranslated one line that made one plot twist look like it came out of nowhere too.
I thought Ciel was being a schizo in the green witch arc instead of remembering his brother because a previous line in a previous arc was mistranslated. Some older manga have some outdated slang but the dialogues are well written, the biggest issues is when the translators make shit up to avoid writing "chan" or "kun" like weird nicknames. I learned Japanese at some point and can read manga if I have a dictionary and there are furigana, and with the weak yen it's sometimes cheaper to order them online than wait 5 years for a badly translated volume with ink stains, very thin pages and less pages or illustrations. I heard JJK translation was so bad in so many languages I just bought them in Japanese. I heard it's a pain in the ass to translate because it's full of old kanji nobody uses and not enough quotes so sometimes you don't know who's talking.
To stay on topic, realizing all of this and seeing how expensive volumes became made me buy a lot less manga, I'm even more likely to read scans online and only buy what I really liked after series are over. I also heard streaming platforms make shit up to have shorter lines for subtitles, from now on I refuse to pay for them too.

Tbh I own a Kewpie myself, but it's a very small one themed after my fave vintage anime which doesn't have a lot of merch (and most of the existing merch is expensive or ugly, so just owning a 3cm rubber doll is enough for me)
For nonas who don't want to bother selling off shit or can't sell certain things for a long time: I try to sell everything I no longer need, but there are certain more curated thrift stores that will take it if it fits the theme, same with consignment stores, which will give you commission.
No-buy groups or websites should exist for your community if you're in a more populated cities. These people will take literally anything off your hands.
Donation library boxes and book-crossing shelves are good for offloading books and other media.
Some charity organisations would be happy with used toys or clothes in good condition, at least where I live.
If you're into subculture or popculture, you can try looking for swap meets, if you want you can say you'll swap shit for actual necessities beforehand, like unperishables or toiletries, people who attend swaps are generally more crunchy and are into that more than normies.
There are also free markets organised in bigger cities, I think it's a better pick than garage sales or flea markets if you want to sell, but can't bother with shipping online.

Remember that you can be part of a fandom and enjoy something without having to own merch or physical media. If those things are just going to bog you down and be a burden in the future you don't have to keep them or continue buying them. You can keep your favourite items but you don't have to have a whole collection just to be a fan of something.
For egl at least you'll probably get good money out of selling things you don't wear. I sold a lot of mine too and put that money into savings. It's a bit of effort but it's definitely more worthwhile than selling other weeb consoom shit which can be really humbling. Like
>>2568654 said, the sting of realising a lot of it is worthless and no one wants it is horrible but it snaps you out of wanting to buy more. I ended up donating a lot of mine or offering it to friends for free.

I’m in the EU too but momox isn’t available in my country yet, apparently. I can’t find the app on the App Store. I can find a similar company but they explicitly don’t want incomplete series. Everything else would involve directly interacting with buyers, which I’d rather avoid. I think I’ll hold onto them a bit longer and see if momox or something similar will come to my country, too.

I think the draw of them is while yes it’s a simple smile, it’s somehow “pre kawaii” in a way…the eyes aren’t as close to the mouth like the Japanese look that got popular what 15 years ago that has plagued us ever since. They look dopier and not as forced I guess.

>>2581110>>2581111>>2581114>>2581135>>2581291Not speaking in agreement just some context. Jellycat is an English brand (could stop there, you know how people love that) that's been around since 1999 in London. In a way they
are very luxury. The quality has gone down in recent years. I was a toy buyer for a luxury children's boutique for 10 years and I didn't know of them before that. Rich people love them though. In recent years (2020 on) quirky kids started coming in to purchase them, mostly the food, plant, monster, frog, mushroom, bug.. What you'd expect. The rich moms love the bunnies for Easter (the largest size is huge and was $200 some years ago, I'm sure its more now).
They are very strict about pricing and set the prices for stores. So much as five cents off and a rep will come to your store. They have a radius block where only one shop in a 5-10mi radius can carry the line. If that's not you, too bad. The cataloges are fun to look through. They reference pop culture (like vogue covers or album covers) staged with the plush. Its a whole Thing.
They're cute and I have a few (discounts…) But I would never buy one full price, especially now that the quality has declined. If you want similar quirky creatures, other lines have them now. If you want their "Smudge" line softness, other lines have that too. Other plush brands have picked up where Jellycat's cost cuts average consumers out.

Some insight on shein and Chinese consoom: I ordered some of that for the boutique and you'd be surprised how much people are willing to pay for hiked up plastic shiny. Maybe you wouldn't. A lot of those things are directly from AliExpress and Shein, and some retailers barely try to hide that. Some of the import distributors sell the same shit for less, so in some ways its unsurprising. You don't have to bother with buyer accounts when consumer side is already wholesale priced.

All I've seen so far is different fur colors, different expressions, and whatever custom clothing or accessory they have. The constant repetition of Labubus just annoys me especially since I see them so often so I really do not get the appeal. The consoomer craze around them comes off as extremely braindead because of that.

Though I was the kind of kid who treated my plush gently and didn't take them anywhere, I know that people love JC because it holds up well. Or did. Last I saw (about 2 years ago) they had stray threads, crookedly sewn noses, lopsided ears and feet. I even experienced a customer accusing them of being counterfeit due to the quality. An interesting trend I noticed though is that its mostly the younger consoomers with money who buy the dot eyed food/things with those faces. Usual consumers purchase the regular animals and creatures. Originally, I didn't order too many of those styles because they didn't sell among their "intended demographic". Just a few years later and they were the best sellers. They run a bit lower cost for jellycat though they're still expensive to be a casual consoom item.

>>2591677>What made you change your ways Nothing 'sudden', it happened over the years. But majorly, running out of space and feeling more and more uncomfortable in my one refuge due to it. It's like the twin of those bare moid rooms, a cluttered and dirty environment really fucks with your mentality and also productivity in the long run.
Other factors were:
- frequently forgetting what I own
- having trouble cleaning
- not being able to find the things I own without starting a search party that is exhausting and makes an even bigger mess
- noticing shopping addict patterns of getting high from purchasing and receiving packages, then immediately resuming to shopping once the rush subsides and noticing I tend to seek out buying stuff the most when I'm bored or irritated or newly into some interest
- selling lolita and realizing that I rarely end up regretting it despite my initial fears
- selling my other things and realizing how much of a pain it is because it's so slow and people on popular platforms love to waste your time which results in me not wanting to buy new things that eventually will have to go through the same process
- realizing that none of the ways to archive my dreams, goals and ideals involve wasting money on things I barely use
- undetected mold infestation nightmare forcing me to clean and throw away an exorbitant amount of things
- all the FOMO aspects, especially in lolita, causing actual feelings of anxiety in me and generally dedicating way too much time and headspace for "hunting" items despite already having a beautiful wardrobe with more than I need. The lolita comm both irl and online really didn’t help with that one.
- neglecting other interests and actual self improvement in favor of shopping, having it live rent free in my head all day
- slowly noticing I was heavily in denial over binding my buying behavior to my identity and worth, when I was clearly feeling a level of 'pride' and achievement over owning rare items and how I'm being perceived by my hobby peers due to it, it's pathetic when you look at it from a different perspective
- trying to question this positive treatment of hoarding and shopping addictions on cgl, other lolita social medias and some hobby collector spaces, only to be met with coping ('as long as you can afford it don't question it', 'as long as it makes you happy aka gives you a rush', 'others use their money on drugs and netflix' etc), various stages of poorfag accusations and other addicts reading my heartfelt concerns that probably apply to them too yet all they think about was fantasizing about buying my things in a tone as if they're stealing from me
- meeting and learning about some of the lolitas who own as much as me and also repeat the copes mentioned above, only to find out literally all of them are either heavily in debt, are also neglecting all hobbies that don't involve heavy shopping or are neglecting themselves while trying to fix it with filters
There's many other factors too, but that's what I remember from the top of my head.
> what kind of lifestyle do you lead now?I'm no minimalist and I still have a chunk of items that have yet to sell, but I also feel so so much better. Everything I own is stuff I use, I feel more at peace in my room since it's like 4 times bigger now and so much quicker to keep clean, I don't stalk second hand platforms anymore and only do non-essential online shopping every 4 months or so (usually in the big discount seasons, I also plan and budget it very strictly now because I still don't trust my addictive ass kek) and the most fulfilling change is that I actually managed to pick up my hobbies again that revolve around creating (but even there I frequently struggle with wanting to overconsoom beyond it but my budgeting helps against that). My appearance also massively improved kek.
It's hard but it's definitely doable once you're open to question your own behavior and cut off enabling factors. You can do it

nonnie. I can relate to so many of your reasons. Having all this stuff fills me with so much anxiety and dread. I've done a lot of work on myself and I guess I'm at a point where I already realise a lot of this stuff, but I'm just so intimidated by the thought of letting lolita and similar hobbies go. It's exhausting to sell things and to say goodbye to what feels like it's been a big part of my life, even though it isn't anymore. A lot of my close friends are still very into it too, so I feel like I'm isolating myself by getting out.
>trying to question this positive treatment of hoarding and shopping addictions on cgl, other lolita social medias and some hobby collector spaces, only to be met with coping ('as long as you can afford it don't question it', 'as long as it makes you happy aka gives you a rush', 'others use their money on drugs and netflix' etc)I know exactly what you mean. I've had so many interactions like this. You try and reach out for help without even criticising them, and basically get told to never question it and maintain a superiority complex over 'normies' about it at all times. I notice so many alternative people and people in niche hobbies have the biggest superiority complexes over people they see as 'boring'. Basically the type of person
>>2591741 is describing. They conflate happiness and identity with shopping so if you question it at all (not even criticising it) they lash out. Calling you poor or boring is the only thing they can come up with. I guess all ages and different types of people do it these days though. For example I've never understood the way people lose their shit at 'minimalist' or 'sad beige' decor (not talking about the cases of when people destroy an old character home or something) when it's not their house. Just because someone doesn't want to live in overstimulating rainbow vomit or quirky consoomer den with a million things to dust doesn't mean they don't have a personality or they're less interesting or successful or important. Maybe they find it relaxing. It's like these people unironically believe that people who aren't addicted to shopping are NPCs with no lives or feelings of their own. My personal favourite is when they say

I’ve considered going back to church just because I believe communal worship like that is probably good for people. Even if I don’t believe in the nitty gritty details, I am taking the time to admire and devote myself with others to the principles and morals that the service tries to uphold.
One thing that has helped me is become more appreciative and aware of the present and the process that led me there. You can apply that logic to something like cooking a meal with crops you’ve grown, wearing a dress that you sewed, or framing a painting you made yourself. If you’re involved in the process of making something, you’re more present and aware of the efforts that brought it to fruition. That gives a sense of purpose and meaningfulness that many people lack. You can even apply that logic to yourself as you are your longest work in progress.
Another nona shared the quote in picrel a few years ago and I like it a lot. We don’t have to do anything, we can just appreciate what we have and make. On a large scale there probably is a desire to be part of a movement to bring about large scale change, but it’s not necessary for us to find fulfillment.

It wasn't much but I made $30 giving old clothes to a local thrift shop, they take seasonal stuff and pay a percentage of the price they list the pieces for. I've used thredup and sold online previously but this was a way I could donate unworn clothes locally without taking a huge amount of time - and avoid shit companies like Goodwill/Savers.

>>2591713Oh my god I feel your post in my soul. Lolita has always been so driven by consoom, I miss the days when everyone would learn to DIY their coords by sewing their own clothes and bags and making their own hats and jewellery because nobody could afford brand or figure out how to use a shopping service. There was also a bigger focus on lifestyle. IMO all of it changed for the worse when burando became more accessible. When you're a broke teen trying to learn how to use a sewing machine it's easy to take it slow and be happy with what you have.
The FOMO aspect of lolita hasn't changed at all from the LJ days when brand was almost impossible to buy, except now all the coveted pieces are on LM at surprisingly decent prices (especially if you were around for the bloodbaths when they were initially released) and the need to consoom kicks in in full force. And the fear of selling pieces is probably from that time too, if you sold a piece in 2008 good luck finding it again for a decent price in the same colorway and cut. Tying your self worth to the items you own is inevitable in a hobby that puts so much emphasis on brands and holy grail items, and when 90% of lolita arguments revolve around accessibility (restrictive sizes that not everyone can fit into, prices that not everyone can afford to pay, items in inconvenient locations that not everyone can access, replicas vs real vs handmade, etc) it's hard not to judge yourself by where you fall on those metrics. Owning rare brand items and being able to wear them does affect your social standing in that hobby, there's no getting around that.
It takes a lot of strength to leave that mindset when you're so entrenched in the hobby that it almost takes over your life. Good job on breaking free from it all and getting your life back on track!

The funniest example was when we went to a house in the most ratchet part of my city and the guy's place was a complete dump in need of a lot of fixes but he had a collection of watches in a really fancy display case, some of which had their own little motorized pedestals. The guy was damn near ready to fight us over the prospect of getting too close to it. Which lucky for him, was not even necessary.
Couple of houses with collections of those really stupid bespoke $200+ bongs you see at weed shops. One (right around the corner from watch guy aamof) had no car so instead his garage became a museum for the things. One of which was like a double barrel shotgun, except like 5 feet long, and a horrifying one that was a bong of Bugs Bunny using a bong, you had to toke it from behind his head. He shut the lights off on us without warning and then walked around turning on the ones that lit up just to show us. (One was based off an old Pegasus gas pump, and that one kinda went hard, but it was also completely pointless)
About 3 or 4 "sneakerhead closests" that took up entire closets. And of course the faggots who collected those were slobs with no effort put into their wardrobes beyond their shoes. I would not be surprised if all of the people mentioned here were unemployed, some of them definitely were.

The labubu craze Is getting out of hand. The fuck you mean people are scalping Labubus so much, people are willing to pay a fuckton of money for a fake? For what? A Little doll? Why are adults into it? Why did jobless, autistic retards made scalping their jobs? How is that even legal? I thought that it was just your regular phase, a cyclical fashion item like picrel was for me when I was a kid but imagining someone scalping Pooh keychains, talking about ~rarity~ and making them constantly sold out feels so fucking wrong to me. Gacha mechanics on toys are already foul (if they aren't 1$ like these where, so like sustainable and trigger a fun trading Activity), scalping toys and cards should be heavily regulated like for what.
? So people can have the latest doll? 10 years ago people walked to the store, got a toy, done. Scalping hobbies (like even manga volume) should be illegal, that's the main reason of why this shit exist, it triggers a giant fomo feeling in shopping addicts that forces them to horde stuff before it gets too big or expensive to get.

>>2596246Nah I’m just a boring adult that never understood the consooming and scalping craze. Recently I went to a concert, people were hoarding the merch booth and one hour later, that stuff was already on ebay and vinted, ready to get into consoomer hands. Scalping just enforces consoomerism, I heard people say “If I want to read a manga I have to get it frame zero because it’s gonna be sold out” then you have consoomers with money that buy from scalpers and the cycle goes on and on, I just come from an otaku (man, zoomers don’t even use this words anymore) background so I noticed the shift kek but in particular, I hate toy scalpers because they prey on children so if parents want to see their child happy, of course they have to pay scalpers and they know they have to be faster than them at the next round. Labubu are just toys, no different than puppy in my pocket or gacha games, no one really thinks they’re cute , it’s just a pararell currency, like the value of pokemon cards, they’re totally made up but people trust those made up numbers.

Even the kunafa desserts in the bakery counter that used it would be sold out when before whenever I went to buy some there would always be plenty left in the tray, I can only assume because people wanted kadayif for Dubai chocolate but there was none left so they just decided to scrape kadayif off the kunafah instead. The cashier there told my mother that people were coming in and buying 10, 20 boxes of kadayif at the same time. I saw empty kadayif packages in the random suburb in Europe I live and heard teenagers horribly pronouncing kunafeh ("can-naffee"), which is 100% the doing of Tiktok. Even pistachios are harder to find and I didn't even have to get them from a speciality shop because usually any old supermarket has them.

>>2603607>Nostalgia is a powerful factor and the millennials with money who grew up with Pokémon cards now overvalue them because of that. Pokemon's marketing business is now the same as Disney movies so it's all on purpose. We have a bunch of new games/movies that introduce new characters and pokemon/mascots on a regular basis regardless of quality just so more merchandises can be created and sold in a semi-regular cycle, nostalgia baiting is all done on purpose, and they're both doing the "cradle to grave" strategy by trying to make nostalgic adults either buy stuff for themselves or for their own kids who will then do the same thing.
I bought some Pokemon baby toy in a Pokemon Center a few weeks ago for a baby in my family so I probably shouldn't judge. If Game Freak didn't have to release games evey year because of the Pokemon Company and Nintendo and investors in general I'm sure they would take more time to release games that don't crash every single minute but who knows.

I'm a digital hoarder of fanart and indie games but I only have 2 external SSDs for that, I know I'll need to adapt to future changes because this data could easily get damaged or hard to read, but so far we're doing pretty good with video games from the 90s even if you need to learn some things to run them.

>>2610519Why is it not the same if it's not physical? To be honest, if I were you I would do some introspection and try to understand why I have the urge to consoom and why does it have to be physical. You say it's fun, do you get enjoyment from watching haul videos? Or does it have to be you the one that does the unboxing or consooms directly? And if so, why? I don't know, obviously there's something there that is making you act like this.
You talk about TCG cards, which makes me think you might be a
victim to trends. Would you mind collecting things that are out of style, like coins or stamps?
I sometimes get the urge to consoom too when the ads and the shilling get to me. But I realized I don't care about figmas, retarded figurines or dolls. I just like how they look. So whenever I have the urge to, idk, buy some stupid doll, I search for photos of the dolls either on flickr, forums, social media, whatever. Because I don't actually want that thing, I just think it looks pretty and I like staring at it. I save the ones I like inside the folder and whenever I get reminded of figmas, figurines, etc. I just open it and look at the photos I saved.
Why don't you arrange the things you have as if they were collector pieces? I don't know, maybe you have some old plushies lying around, you could treat them as if they are valuable or something that is part of a collection. Paintings, clothes, figurines, whatever. Whenever you make a monthly purchase (groceries, take out, clothes) you can pretend they are limited edition? I don't know.

>>2610539Seconding this one. Video games aren't satisfying to me because theres no solid real-life aspect to them (i.e. you can't see your playtime on your shelf or any other space, unless you brag. And if theres a deletion/corruption mishap, your "collection" is dust in the wind) but archiving is an easy-to-minimize thing and you can have a visual record of what you've done, and if other people like it then it can stick around forever. I started by scanning library books and eventually started scanning things I bought from yard sales, and then donating those to the library. The only issue is file space, but if your collection is on multiple platforms its easier to accept you have to delete old things to make space for the new stuff.
And if
>>2610552 is right and it's a trendy thing, idk how appealing it would be, but there's a lot of demand for aesthetic scans on tumblr/twitter/insta. Lots of accounts use dollar-store or food packaging for fodder.

>if I were you I would do some introspection and try to understand why I have the urge to consoom Serious answer, probably stems from some kind of resource gathering instincts. I don't need to collect just like nobody needs to play video games, do gardening or read books - but it's genuinely so much fun to me to create little collections and to decide how to present them and to curate it all perfectly.
>You talk about TCG cards, which makes me think you might be a victim to trends. Would you mind collecting things that are out of style, like coins or stamps?I did literally mention stamps in the same sentence as the TCG so yeah lol I've got little collections of both from childhood. >Why don't you arrange the things you have as if they were collector pieces? Oh I do! I love thinking of how to present them and making like little photoshoots. But yeah I think maybe you're on to something there, perhaps if I spend even more time with each piece that would distract me from buying more while enjoying what I've got or something.

i also have a sea glass collection where I limit myself up to 3 pieces per beach so other people can find some,

>>2611000>Hoarders do not hoard because of animal instinct to collect resourcesWell possibly true, though I'm not a hoarder, just a collector. I don't collect trash or random items thinking it's important I keep it "for something", I feel literal joy hunting out specific pieces I want for a curated collection. So perhaps it's more of a hunting thing? Like mushroom-nona above mentioned, I feel like there really is a resource gathering instinct, and finding and getting the items is like a game.
>why does the amount that you consoom bother you?Money and space, and also the planet is dying and I'm contributing to the production of more unnecessary items…
I actually have a close friend with OCD. She is closer to a hoarder in that she buys a ton of items she literally never uses, she always keeps them in their boxes, buys whole sets, and it doesn't even matter that they're items with a best by date. She lets them go bad and still keeps them. She's described feeling a panicked urge to get the items she desires, if she doesn't get them she physically feels like dying and it doesn't matter that she can't afford the item she feels like she needs it and goes into debt. I know I'm not that and I don't think it's possible for me to develop into it since I don't have her OCD, but it is what made me want to explore if I can maintain and control my own collection urges better. So that's not at all my experience, which is really just joyful and fun. But it's still definitely overconsumption on my part too!

Otherwise, look into anti-consumer youtubers, I know some of them are annoying and repetitive but hear me out. It will give you a glimpse to what you may become, with the Labubus and the Stanley cups(just bc your Stanley cup is some obscure Japanese or Euro thing doesn't mean its any better, remember that). I was in your position as well, susceptible to buying things because I wanted to collect or I thought I would need it. You need to rewire how you think about physical items. I can now look at something that I want and identify if I want it just because I know what it is, it's cute, it looks good in it's packaging, it fulfills some kind of lifestyle I want to achieve, etc. A question that is very helpful for me when I want to buy is "where is this thing going to be in my house, and where will it end up in 5 years", most of the time the answer is: it has no place in my home, and it will be uninteresting within 5 years. There are many reasons people consoom beyond "collecting is innate", you need to do the mental work to figure out what is true for you. Those videos can help you see how you might be acting but in third person, and having a Youtuber point out the insanity might bring you to some realizations.

Worst case scenario is that I would end up buying the stuff myself, which is why in my first post I thought something like a museum/gallery where I can't buy things privately but still curate a collection would be a better idea.
Another idea I've considered (but that will never happen) is becoming something like an interior designer where I'd get to hunt down and curate pieces to fit specific spaces. It's annoying that the only solutions I can think of consists of getting specific jobs though, when collecting is meant to be a hobby.
And one idea is to collect something like literal rocks so I could just keep them in the garden. At least then they wouldn't take up spaces inside! But how fun is a rock really kek

>>2612347Nta but with your preconceived notion that your consoomerism is an inherit "hunter gatherer instinct" which prevents you from doing some introspection you're likely not going to make any meaningful changes. You even admit that you don't see anything wrong with consooming and it's just a money and space issue.
If I'm being you honest sound like you're addicted to the quick dopamine rush you get from consooming which is why you're not even considering quitting and aim for replacing the source with something else instead.

What a great way to signal that you have the money to waste on a fake labubu and that you listen to aphex twin while also being quirky enough to ruin the doll with shitty DIY - featuring ugly polyester bag

>>2610187>>2610303More Glitch garbage, who are they trying to lure in with this?? At least with TADC it's colorful but this looks abysmal. I hate how you can clearly see the main zombie girl's detailed hip bones and crotch in the figurine, they are not being subtle at all.

>>2613120I don't like the oversized ecchi shit but, eh, there are projects he made that seem like they involve actual creativity with the collaging. Not my thing but I cannot hate him entirely for it since I put creative endeavors of any kind above mindless consooming. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to get as much interest in these as the giant ecchi figures. Massive wastes of paper catering to ecchi slop faggots.

>>2612912Gaslight District doesn't seem to be popping off like other Glitch productions for the simple fact that the aesthetic is ugly. I get what they are going for, it feels very 2000s like the look of stuff like Invader Zim, Psychonauts, Tim Burton and so on but I don't think the nostalgia for that aesthetic is back yet and even then the characters just lack appeal. All those other things I listed made sure to balance the spooky and icky out with characters that had more cute elements to their design.
I think the zombie girl design is especially bad in part because they don't actually lean into the waifu shit sincerely. It's like they are too embarrassed about making her sexy that they saddle her design with a lot of bad elements for plausible deniability. NONE of the characters suit merch.

>you're not even considering quittingI'm literally asking for ways to quit by channeling it into something else more useful because I recognize that it does give me dopamine aka it's fun and fulfilling but I still know it's not sustainable long term. I'm obviously not magically gonna go minimalist overnight, that's unrealistic. I think it's been documented enough in this thread that the worst consumers are mentally ill/have a disorder and developed their consumerism habits through that which may actually be an inherent trait to them. I want to know ways they could be helped to channel it in a different way too (like my friend with OCD I mentioned earlier)

>>2612315Western companies are somehow even worse about this crap than Japanese ones, and that really says something, considering Japanese companies will happily charge 5000 yen for a t-shirt or 12000 yen for Claire's tier plated metal jewelry. There are new Sailor Moon trading stickers out right now, each 3 pack has a retail of $9.99.
>>2612823The only nice thing I will say about these things is that it gives morons looking for clout something better to buy and immediately resell than recasts off AliExpress that they don't even know the original name of.

>>2612114Ha,
nonnie, I can relate, I've moved maybe four times in the past five years, to smaller and smaller spaces, and when downsizing, I managed to sell an air fryer, a computer monitor, a foldable desk, all useful things, but
nobody was interested in buying any of my plastic fandom tat. The one thing I remember was a special limited collectable from Japan I had to use a consignment service to get, set me back over $100, but it was bulky and my new place had no place for it, so I listed it on an online marketplace. I had
zero buyers for months, until I finally got a bite when in desperation I listed it for $5. The thing I thought was so important that I spent so much time and money to get ended up being something some rando only bought on impulse because it was so cheap. I've sworn off fandom-related anything entirely because the pain of trying to offload that damn thing always comes back to haunt me.
