>FUJOSHI (腐女子, "rotten girl"): a self-mockingly pejorative Japanese term for female fans of manga and novels that feature romantic relationships between men.

>Discuss yaoi and BL here, as well as other media aimed at (or with fanservice for) fujoshis.

>Discussion of BL games here is okay, but please do not cannibalize the otome game general.
>Discussion of Male/Male ships outside of strictly BL series is allowed, try to avoid divisiveness between slashers and classic fujos.
>No straight shit, there are other threads for that.
>Feel free to ask for recommendations, but specify what kind of material you're looking for (Genre, oneshot/series, doujinshi, SFW/NSFW etc).
>Being reasonably critical of BL is welcomed but don't come here only to bait or excessively moralsperg about fujos or how much you hate BL as a genre. Take it to Twitter.
>Be mindful of others and hide your spoilers. Use the spoiler image option and wrap your text inside spoiler tags.
>Reminder to ignore the baiting males and trolls who come to provoke.
>Keep the armchair psychology to a minimum, we've heard it all before.
>Be nice to each other, we fujos should stick together.

Does The Boys have homoerotic tension? I'm considering too dive into this series but the radiating moid manifesto vibe is intimidates me. Please tell it isn't way too cruel for cruelty sake?

No. Absolutely zero, and I'm a pretty delusional fujoshi. One of the characters briefly becomes a fag in the fourth season though it's none of the attractive ones.

>Does The Boys have homoerotic tension?
Just tension, but not homoerotic imo. Just about whether or not Homelander is going to snap due to his very fragile ego and constant need for approval. On top of it he basically has a mommy complex, so for the most part there's always a motherly figure holding his leash. Another reason it doesn't feel homoerotic to me is because their rivalries often revolve around women - like a superhero killing/raping someone's girlfriend/wife for example - rather than between the characters themselves.
And any 'actual' gay stuff is always small gags, played for laughs or meant to be gross and shocking, not things appealing to fujos at all. Like an ant-man parody being gay and going up his bf's butt, but losing control inside and killing him by growing up, like people joked should happen with Thanos in the marvel movies.
And it's always ugly randos, never the big name actors. In the comics, Homelander (who's just a sociopath) tricks Soldier Boy (played by Jensen Ackles in the show) into having sex with him every year by saying it's "an entrance test" to see if he can join the big superhero team. But the show's Soldier Boy has nothing to do with that, and is a completely new character (who is openly homophobic instead). Also, I'm not saying you should read the comics at all, much less for that scene - absolutely not worth it.

>Please tell it isn't way too cruel for cruelty sake?

It definitely is. Less so than the comics, which are extremely edgy, but it's still a show about gore and shock value. The adaptation changes a lot and tries to show some of the more 'problematic' aspects like rape in a more serious light and make it more realistic and less over the top. Not that I think it's well done, just presented in a more politically correct manner, while also still trying to appease every demographic by also having 'dumb corporate feminist scene' #492 and whatnot. They also removed the alien who's into getting gangbanged by trannies and has his image ruined because of it.
If you really happen to like one of the actors and are fine with scenes of people exploding into bits, I'd say it's maybe worth to binge it as a yume, not as a fujo.

I want to ask the fujos here who use they/them pronouns or know people who do: why do you do/they it, do you know? My intention isn’t to make fun of you, but honestly, I think using them is retarded and embarrassing.
I have a close fujo friend who uses they/them pronouns. One day, she gained some popularity for her fujo art. The reason she decided to go with they/them was because she was threatened with doxxing and other nasty things for being a "straight woman fetishizing homos". She's a hikkineet and very depressed, so her art is her only source of income, and she felt like she had no choice.
Now, she also pretends to be nonbinary and makes furry art. The harassment stopped once she went they/them and nonbinary whatever. She connected with other fujos who do the same—either to fit in because they are lonely and friendless irl or for similar reasons to hers, popular fujo bloggers, artists etc.
She’s never asked me to use they/them in private but has told me to do so in public spaces to protect both of us. It’s honestly so messed up. She seems even more depressed than before.
Reminds me of kids, trying to fit in high-school.(bait)

Question marks are because I wasn't 100% sure about the answer. 3dpd I only go for kpop/jpop idols fanart, ace because I'm a khv and I'm the happiest being single, shotafag only if I like the characters, I don't hide being a fujo but I also don't show it off, 90% of BL I consume/like is manga but I'll watch/read anything as long as it sounds interesting. That's my list of excuses lol
A bit OT but Anti/Proship stuff tires me out, and so does trans/neopronouns shit. The less I think about it the better.

Otome games. Female heroine with male love interests (might get a yuri route too but rare occasion).
BL and otome are targeted towards women. The few media we have.
Not all otome players are yumes, but some are, so some otome games might be yume friendly, but most aren't.
Joseimuke genre, tries to attract both fujos and otome fans, yumes too. Ex. Enstars, touken ranbu
Yumes can self insert to bl mcs too, or play eroge if MC is hot. Some are retarded and schizophrenic, hating fujos with passion or others liking him, or heroine having too much personality of her own/not an empty shell, making it difficult to self insert.

>some otome games might be yume friendly, but most aren't
Genuine question, how can that be the case for otome games? Are there any that don't appeal to yumes whatsoever?
Like, I can see an Otome anime or novel having too little control by the audience to steer yumes away, but not games. And from what I remember, a yume girl can "dream" her female character by either directly self-inserting, or by making the female character an OC by making her malleable to the yume's decisions while the yume "watches" from the sidelines. How would otome games not encompass that, especially in the latter case? You get to pick your name, or have a specific route you can choose, or explore certain areas by controlling player movement, how could that not be something yumes would like?

No. 434918

>>434913
>Are there any that don't appeal to yumes whatsoever?
NTA, but I think there are definitely some that are less friendly to yumes (I wouldn't say 'most' like that anon, though). For example, I have seen some people in otome game communities bemoan when a protagonist has too much going on because it makes her difficult to project onto (as in, excessive backstory, too defined of a personality, etc). This isn't always the case, but a sentiment I've seen is that a lot of people who play these games don't self-insert at all, and for those people, they prefer a protagonist who is her own character. People who do self-insert tend to prefer it when details about the protagonist are left ambiguous. Additionally, I think having a voice-acted protagonist takes some people out of it. Although it's rare, there are also a few games that do not give you the option to name the protagonist, or only allow you to give her an alias whereas she has a real name, which the boys will say in voice-acting. I think it's probably better to look at otome games on a scale of how 'yume' they are, rather than declaring them to be one way or another. I also think it depends on what kind of yume the player is, because for some, that level of detachment from the protagonist would really hinder her enjoyment, whereas others may be okay with it.
>making the female character an OC by making her malleable to the yume's decisions while the yume "watches" from the sidelines
While this is true, the decisions you make in VNs are not that extensive. Plus, not all VNs have choices, and sometimes, those choices are just "hang out with XYZ Boy," which isn't very immersive, I'd imagine. Like with most VNs, there's a 'right' and 'wrong' answer to many VN choices. I feel like this argument could be applied to some BL VNs just as easily as otome games, and those are usually not yume-friendly. I'm not a yume, so I may be completely off-base, but I see what that anon was trying to say. I'd be curious as to what VNs she would personally name as 'yume unfriendly,' though.

I do agree with you that it's probably best to view such games on a spectrum. Like any genre, its input and effectiveness is subjective, especially when it blurs the line. I think we both disagree with the other anon that said "most" otome games aren't for yumes, as she seems to be a bit restrictive on what's considered yume or not. BL games I understand, because pulling charectistics from the opposite sex for the MC while making it believable is difficult to follow through. But Otome? Not so much. But, I have to see what's her definition on what is and isn't yume.

Anyhow, I feel that the extreme bemoaning is coming from a specific subset of yumes, a significant chunk, but still not part of the all-encompassing yume fandom. I think the constant need to have as blank of a slate as possible is difficult to pull off in any established media. The story will still need to evolve and would require some automatic progress whether the yume wants to or not. And this will result in the female protagonist having at least some dimension before being put into the story. The only way to not have that in a game is to play a sandbox game.

No. 434982

>>434927
>>434918
NTA, but a lot of modern otome games have protagonists with their own personality and backstory. It has attracted an audience that can't even imagine why anyone would want a protagonist with a less strong or defined identity or why we want to self-insert, or ridicule us for it. You can even see it in the otome thread sometimes. These people treat otome games the same way they treat romance manga and the same way you treat yaoi games, and they're often encouraged to do so by the games themselves.
>>434913
>You get to pick your name, or have a specific route you can choose, or explore certain areas by controlling player movement, how could that not be something yumes would like?
Ocarina of Time lets you do all this and most people self-insert to a small degree (as it's necessary in a video game) while still seeing Link as his own person. Being a yume is imagining that instead of "Link" it's either literally you or your OC, which not many people do in Zelda. Many otome games have poor self-insertion features, such as picking your name, but the protagonist has a face, a set personality that affects the range of choice we are given (especially in a VN where choices are much more limited than in a game like Zelda or even simulation games), a whole backstory, etc.

Any otome game where the protagonist is distinct enough to get her own fans could be considered "not yume friendly". Third-person POV, seeing the protag's face all the time, being constantly told what the protagonist is feeling also affect our immersion. But yume-friendly games, sadly, often have shitty protagonists because it's the same shit but now she has a generic design with no face and all the options we're given are boring doormat shit as she's abused by the love interests and we're helpless to stop it. I feel Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side is one of the better examples of a yume-friendly game. You never see MC's face or body aside from her SD version and her hands in some CGs, there is no narration telling you what you look like or what you're feeling, the MC mostly just describes what's happening around her in an objective manner, the MC's dialogue options are varied and fun/funny, you can choose whether to do or not to do a lot of things and it has an actual impact on your playthrough, most of the CGs are first-person, the boys can actually pronounce your chosen name, you can choose how to dress, you can choose to do everything to make the boys like you or annoy them to see how they'll react, your birthday is also customizable and the boys give you a special birthday greeting when you start the game on your real-life birthday, you can molest them, most things happen only if you make them happen, I could go on and on.

What did you think of your first playthrough, did it meet your expectations? I liked that Michael was a schizo but thought the twist was still dumb or could have been used more effectively. However I'm a year 24 fan through and through so it doesn't even faze me in comparison to like Kaze to Ki no Uta, which I also highly recommend if you like the flowery shoujo-BL aesthetic.

This is gonna look so bad I don't want it. Yama is so tired she sold her rights for quick bucks instead of holding it with a better studio and overseeing the quality. This cell shading shit totally ruins the charm of the manga that's old vibes/realistic. And the comments are saying there's no even Nakamura Yuuichi. Way to ruin two great manga in one go.

Is it easy to get into otome as a fujo and vs? I tried to, because my sister likes them and buys them, we live together too, so i don't have to spend a buck on them, just borrow her stuff, but can't get into. I end up shipping the LIs, and it's not because i'm a fujo, there's real fujobait in, even my sister admits to it.
I'm jealous of people that can play other genres overall.
My sister dislikes anything LGBT so not touching them.

I want to hold off on forming too many judgements just yet because there is still a lot i don't know. I played Leonid's route for my first playthrough so I'm speaking with that in mind. There was a large gap in between when I first started playing and when I continued so my memory might be hazy about earlier events, correct me if I got anything wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Michael is an amazing protagonist and I love how much focus is given to his interior struggles regarding the loss of both his family and his faith. He is super determined despite his mental instability which is refreshing compared to how wimpy or stupid MCs usually are, but he still makes mistakes which characterize him even further. Am currently working on Cecil's route, I hope we'll find out some clues about Michael's past here since you don't end up schizo like that for no reason. I won't comment on the mystery itself since I still have a lot of information gaps, but imo the suspense buildup and payoff was well done. I did like the development between him and Leonid in this route because there was so much tension and lies between them, but imo the transition into the romance was a bit jarring since they weren't speaking to each other for a stretch. But the two of them filling the empty spaces in each other's hearts and learning to trust each other was very cute, especially since Michael is a very lonely character. His relationship with Jack and Father Lazarus was very cute as well.

This would be a better question for the otome thread.
>there's real fujobait in, even my sister admits to it.
What kind of otome games are you playing? There are joseimuke games that aren't either BL or otome but are designed to attract both audiences. An otome game where there's more tension and passion between the male characters than with the female protagonist is doing a shit job. Also, remember that interacting and having any sort of relationship with another character doesn't automatically constitute shipbait.

>An otome game where there's more tension and passion between the male characters than with the female protagonist is doing a shit job.
NTA but a lot of otome games where the protagonist has a very lackluster personality do end up having some unintentional chemistry between the boys. Most obvious examples I can think of off the top of my head are Charade Maniacs and Amnesia. I don't think this will constitute shipping bait necessarily, but the games do make jokes about how the characters come across as gay, which kind of muddies the waters. There's also the occasional otome where one of the main or side characters ends up being attracted to guys, like Hatoful Boyfriend, where one of the LIs is gay and was in love with another LI's dead dad, or the thing with Hugo from Virche.
>>435078
>Is it easy to get into otome as a fujo
Yes and no. I read otome on occasion, but it's because I'm just a VN person in general and don't discriminate by genre. If the story's interesting, I'll read it, even if I don't get much out of the romance. There are some games, like I mentioned above, that might have fujo-ish elements, but it's never going to be the central focus. I have had trouble with the genre as a whole because the protagonists are often kind of flat to make self-inserting easier, which makes me not enjoy the VN as much as a BL game, where the protagonists are their own characters. I'm not complaining, as I'm aware I'm not the target audience, but it's something to keep in mind. I don't think it's a great idea to get into otome as a fujo unless you just really like VNs in the first place, and even then, your options for something you'd actually enjoy are pretty sparse. If I were you, I'd ask your sister which of her games have a protagonist with an established character and a focus on plot, personally.

That's actually sad because jujucat has cancer atm.

About the author, I didn't know it was her and wanted to rant here about some series that I rage dropped, because it was super gross, the bad kind of gross. And to find out that's it's author, lol.
And I say that as someone who reads freaky stuff in general.
Mafia setting, the mc is a blond dude that gets brutally raped by his boss who's in his 60s and has beads in his dick. He also stabs and slashes him with a knife everytime he rapes him. He also pimps his other fucktoy to other ugly bastards that do freaky shit to him. The seme gets NTR'ed by the boss, watching the boss rape blondie, who is his childhood crush btw and gets off that.
It's done horribly and the pacing is bad. It really makes no sense the story too. The characters don't have personalities too, like, they don't react to it at all, no monologues, no angry reactions. Just blondie being a punch bag taking all humiliation and ugly bastards and his crush just watching doing absolutely nothing. They show no emotion, no personality, so you can't feel sad about them, because they're blank slates. The rape was so out of nowhere too, it's like the author went out of nowhere, you know what im going to insert my fetish in just because, midway the plot.
It's like she's trying to write something but she obviously can't, and just wants to put her fetishes in. Makes sense why she did that in the end. Not going to miss something from her works overall.

Currently reading
>Punch Drunk Love (picrel)
>Don't Mess With the Pooch!

>Raising a Sacrifice (season 1 complete, s2 not translated yet)

Finished and liked a lot:
>It's Just a Dream…Right?!

>Moritat
>Love in Orbit
>The good teacher

Liked:
>Say You Can Hear Me
>Dine With a Vampire

Has weird parts but I liked anyway for some trope, you may not like:
>Anything by Fujoking (kek I just like her weirdness)
>Love Shuttle (omegaverse with non weepy tall bottom)
>BL motel (epic same face syndrome and shitty starting art but I like the comedy)
>Third Ending (top a bit too cringe in his stalkerish wooing)
>Biting the Tiger (cheesy af, cute chibis made me stay)
>Rix Vanus (nice everything except author fetish for having npcs trying to rape mc)
>Blood Bank (good art and worldbuilding but I hate bdsm)

I'm so fucking excited about Ganbare getting an anime. I hope they don't fuck it up. Nakamura is basically just Tsukimi, but with octopi instead of jellyfish. I love retarded autistic MCs. Speaking of, has anyone here seen Oofuri? It's not BL, but it's sufficiently fujobaity that I enjoyed it. I put the MC of that show in the same category. Some find him really annoying (which he definitely is in the English dub, definitely only watch subs for that one) but he definitely grew on me. Oofuri also has some fantastic reaction images.

Whoops I'm late, but some of my favourites are
>Momentum (several love stories that are handled pretty maturely imo, very sensual, look out for the one story involving an old ass man)
>Wolf in the House (same author as above, but funnier and with werewolves/weredogs? Still has some mature themes)
>The Beast Must Die (Moritat's author, guy with psychopath story, starts off great imo but then kind of becomes reduntant, still good though)
>Dear Door (fantasy shit with demons and angels, wacky ass anatomy but VERY sexual scenes, fun if you can ignore the anatomy and k-drama tier story)
>Blood Bank (vampire story, pretty cool characters and nice art)
>Black Mirror (cool horror, not too good but also not bad)
>King's Maker (great first season, goes to shit later, epic story with kings and shit)
>ENNEAD (egyptian gods fuck, pretty and consistent art but very intricate plot, pacing issues)
These are the ones I would say are my favourites, I've read a lot more than those but looking back so many of them are full of trashy tropes and just… bad ideas. Or very bad art.

Naruto and Sasuke had the most fleshed out love story in Naruto. I genuinely barely care about them being with Hinata and Sakura, despite liking them as individual characters.
The story building was done absolutely beautifully , there was a lot of build up, angst , symbolism, yearning , understanding and mutual care. I can’t blame fujos for making them the gaycouple n1 because it’s my favorite BL too kek.

I haven't watched Naruto but I'm planning on doing so to see what did I miss on. That aside, I think shonen stories and capeshit cartoons have the best potentially gay couples because of the huge plotlines around the relationships. All the action, superpowers, end of the world or big danger, stakes in general and how it all tie in to the relationship of the 2 males, whether the hero and the villain, or the hero and his male best friend, make it all seem so important and big that you can't help but get really invested in it all. My Japanesw is finally at a level where I think I can tackle VNs. Picrel, Norn's Dine, is the one I'm aiming to read when it comes out.
I have a question– do international releases of VNs typically include an option to play with the original Japanese text?

Also wondering if there are any short (like Hatoful BF or NekoPara Boy's length) BLVNs you nonnas would recommend for Japanese learners.

No. 442936

>>442817
I don't know how much you've looked at Japanese learning groups online but they tend to be filled with moids who recommend immersing in VNs early, particularly CGDCT and sometimes nukige which usually have easier language. It also needs to be hookable (most PC and switch vns but you might be able to get something figured out with console games too) or at least voiced. Both are ideally but there are a lot of short unvoiced doujin VNs out there too. The Moe Way discord has a very fujo-friendly joseimuke club and is probably your best bet. LinLinLavender has a huge otome difficulty list and her own discord has a BL section but it's less active and half of them only play translated VNs. I haven't checked either recently but there are some gendies in both. There's also a neglected JP learning thread on FC.

Otherwise try browsing vndb. This filtered search might help: https://vndb.org/g2002?m=0&l=&f=063gja124oswi4owin1380L80PB80TlN385wseiyuu-135005015020381Sj81SQ81Xo9&s=20w (Boyxboy only, Japanese original, Has voice acting, PC or switch release, nukige or school or slice of life, short or unknown length and trap tags filtered out) There's also an add on that lets you use Yomitan on anime subs but if you're a beginner it's frustrating pausing all the time.

I'm in the same boat but I'm learning Japanese for fic so I just stuck with otome. The game that you posted is probably going to be an easy one but it's still good to practice with something else now if you really want to enjoy it.

Do any nonas have recommendations for m/m stuff that takes place in boarding school? It can be Japanese, Korean, or Western, I'm not super picky. I'd prefer manga or books, but shows and movies are fine, too. Idk why but I'm suddenly craving a story with boarding school as a setting.

Don't recommend Kaze to Ki no Uta, BTW. Already read it, didn't care for it.

I shared a funny video mocking omegaverse in the groupchat and she went on a rant that omegaverse is actually amazing and it's about feminism and I was like, girl, it's literally gay mpreg porn and she called me a pervert kek. She claims the omegaverse she reads has no porn and she never heard of NSFW omegaverse which left me speechless at first and then I went and explained to her the history of the genre and she got offended and said that it makes her uncomfortable and I shouldn't talk about things like that. Are my friends just living on another planet?

In the end it wasn't an experiment, it was just kept that way so they could keep abusing kids. iirc it was a regular island at first, just poor, isolated, and behind the rest of the world. There was some big war and other countries started coming for the first time. They found out that the kannagi could see the future, so the island started trading their power for goods and stuff. Then the army men who came for predictions started abusing the kids, and kept doing it even after years passed and the wars ended. I don't think the rulers of the island are aware of how advanced the outside world is.

Not sure if this page from the end of vol. 4 implies that the author was forced to hide the modern fantasy aspect of it because of her editor, or that her editor told her to change it to a modern setting down the line. I mean, sure it's about a misleading cover told jokingly, but my post about how the mangaka and editor had differing visions for marketing (perhaps initially) seems to still hold water.

I wish that the way that they portrayed the manga would've been different, perhaps going the way the mangaka initially planned for it to be. Because after a few volumes or so, finding that this manga fits a completely different genre, era, and conflict (at least partially) miffed me. For awhile I didn’t see the appeal of kyman but over time it grew on me, I’m a total loser for fluffy cute stuff but as I played tfbw I loved their banter so much. Headcannons of Kyle as a Tsundere drives my brain wild…
Style will always be my number one ever since that scene in assburgers where stan goes “Kyle! I love you!” And post Covid leaves so much for old man yaoi. Godspeed to Matt and Trey, they did the opposite of most creators and acknowledged how much fujoshis run fandoms and basically weaponized yaoi. I am being pandered to and god does it work!

It's regret for not making the other guy the main love interest, so they risk tanking numbers and general interest by making the unlikeable fag fuck the main bottom. In Mojito's case, she nuked a lot of western and Korean fans when she did that. Korean participation tanked and never recovered. She knows if she changed the true love interest that it would obliterate any good will and patience the rest of the fans had and get death threats and have her career ruined. I like it but it's pretty ironic that the artist is so obviously a moid and draws men in such a male gaze way. All the character's pecs are so huge and round, they look like tits. He's got that "hentai artist who only draws women" style. There's very little yaoi for a song about yaoi, most characters are posing solo or being suggestive towards the viewer. Also this magazine looks 100% like a bara magazine.

Eh, the pic you're showcasing is from a Scott pilgrim fancomic, and that had a lot of fujos in it. I noticed that the artist referenced a lot of popular Western fandom terms and ships, which tend to deviate from the ikemen/bishounen aesthetic and indulge the audience in a suggestive way towards the viewers, hence the confusion. But I've seen Citrus scale, KINKTOMATO, Ao3 age-rating/ship quadrants, danganronpa, death note, hetalia, given, omegaverse, supernatural (not abo), etc. All of this doesn't scream that a moid made this nor put barely any yaoi references, but rather just someone who leans into the Western fandom.

Lmao you weren't joking when you said the song was awful, not even teenage fujo me would've enjoyed this. For a song about fujoshis and yaoi there's a severe lack of actual BL visuals, what a shame. Also lol'ed at Gakupo, he doesn't look like that at all.
The lack of Len is the actual sin plus how repetitive the song is in lyrics and structure. Thank God there have been better BL-adjacent vocaloid songs in the past.

The main couple was so good, why did they decide to add 30 chapters of the ugly side couple and now this… I expected to like it because I love muscular bottoms, especially when they get mistreated, but everything about their story is so dumb. I can't get over the boss trying to strangle his child soon-to-be step-brother because, what, he didn't want to fuck him? He wasn't even considering fucking him? What the hell? Who wants to read this? The boss was so weird towards the MC but he still seemed kind of powerful, now he just looks retarded. I don't want him to get a happy ending with this dumbass. Till ch. 19 iirc. Waiting for volumes to release to get them, because not worth otherwise, 20 bucks for one chapter. And I get it in French because cheaper and easily accessible.
First 2 volumes were based. But after that the backtracking, novels side stories about megane and his exes and the delays tired me. Now it reads like any other bl webtoon with a schizo serial killer in. I don't care about rape and torture in general, but they drag it a lot in there, one whole chapter about MC get ass raped and mutilated and it drifts often from the plot. Not the best writing overall. 16yo me liked it for the edge and "uniqueness" no webtoons back then, but having grown old now and read a shiton of other works and webtoom, I can see that it's not the niche kino work that deserves that much of praise and gatekeeping. I'm currently reading Mary Jane webtoon, that has slightly similar plot, main one a psychiatrist uke like itw one, and it's so much better and the writer gives a fuck about to update and eventually finish it, unlike the ITW one. Sorry anon but as much as I'd like to help not risking sharing it here. Schizo might even try to take the site down. And it might never finish at this point and just stay unfinished forever so.

As for me, I've been with a bi bf who liked BL for all sorts of body types. Only reason we broke up is because I don't like LDRs, but we left on good terms. I don't get the negativity and worst-case scenarios spewed by others here, but this is admittedly because of my anecdotal experience.

Lies, it's just an excuse. Iirc you can use Visa cards to buy actual porn, and many porn websites like Pornhub host CP and revenge porn and only remove some videos here and there when the victims hire a lawyer. Now I want to know what's the real reason for that because I remember seeing a tweet about Visa or Mastercard not working anymore for a normal Japanese matchmaking website or app for otaku. I actually really like these designs. I hate it when character designs are too busy, makes it hard to remember any details from it. This is obviously simple, but it's possible that seeing it in action will make it more memorable. Simple, yet memorable is my favourite type of design.
Plus, a departure from a bishounen/typical ikemen is very much appreciated. I don't hate it, but I don't like seeing it everywhere. So seeing this isn't the case here is nice.

Why is Korean BL so bad? Jinx at least has serviceable art, but I cannot wrap my head around how some of these Webtoons become so popular when they often have worse artwork, worse characters, worse writing, and worse sex than your bog-standard BL manga
Do people just hate-read these? Is their trashiness part of the appeal? Are the fans mostly teens that have never read any other BL? Even Chinese works with all the censorship and limitations have much more interesting dynamics and stories than Webtoon slop
I like some slop, and I'm sure there's some great Webtoon recs out there that I don't bother searching for, but I can't imagine voluntarily consuming something like Jinx weekly for years without damage to the fujo psyche

Anons do you have recs for bl mangas with long plots that aren't set in school or an office? Even historical stuff is cool, but I crave stories where the characters go through plot shit before fucking non-stop. I've only been reading korean stuff because usually the good ones have several seasons and they have plot going on besides two students or collegues having romantic feelings and shallow drama. I honestly crave some new story that's similar to Kaze to Ki no Uta (but a little less boring), Sakura Gari, Tourou no Ouri, even something like Adekan and Hikaru ga shinda natsu which are not fully bl but you get the point.

I started filling this out and then realized that I dislike or feel ambivalent towards like 95% of these. I don't care for ~le edgy dead dove don't eat teehee~ type stuff. What this basically boils down to for me is whether seeing one of these tags on a fic would make me not click on it, which is basically just everything below the top three categories. The stuff in the third category are things I've seen in stories that I enjoyed, but not tropes that I would seek out on their own. The top category ones are the only tropes I genuinely go out of my way to find.

Also several of these terms are either vague or redundant. "Bodily fluids" is too vague, but since cum is a given and blood is its own category, I assumed it meant "poop and pee" and stuck them in restraining order.

I'm a newbie when it comes to BL comics so if any nonnies could offer some recommendations, I'd be really grateful.
I just finished reading Sadistic Beauty's 2nd epilogue with Minho and Wookyung for the first time and really liked it. I also started Reverse Thinking based on the talk itt and I'm enjoying that as well.
I guess what I'm basically looking for is a straight guy or "straight acting" guy getting sexually bullied or seduced by another man kek. Would prefer if both of the men are more on the manly side (basically the Sadistic beauty epilogue visual standard).
The sadism, violence and rape is not my favorite part of these series (that maybe sounds weird since it's kind of the point of them). I'm more interested in dubcon. I like the mental aspect of the "straight" guy being humiliated or feeling embarrassed about how he's getting into it and trying to fight against it. Maybe it's some sort of forbidden fruit dynamic that entices me.
It can be a oneshot or a longer running series, I'm open to anything. Also can be old or some "baby's first bl comic" tier since apart from the two mentioned above, I haven't read any other stuff (I've stuck to fanfiction stuff before).
Thread tax is a panel from the latest Reverse Thinking chapter. Jiwook is just as delicious as Minho was, I'm obsessed

But I see plenty of puritans tear the anime (and to a lesser extent, the manga) apart for its dubcons, age-gaps, minors in sexual situations etc. and those comments get hundreds of thousands of likes and/or views.
In other words, Loveless is too accessible and not far back that results in many complaints about it. Meanwhile, the theatrical approach of Kaze Ki is too inaccessible for general audiences, so they push it to the side. Instead, they just parrot the fandom elders remarks about how influential kaze was, without going deep into it by reading it.

LOLing at that.
>Today the long-awaited season two boxset of the Heaven Official’s Blessing donghua was released by Crunchyroll—a follow-up to the season one set released back in March 2023. While at first glance the Blu-ray set appeared very similar to its predecessor (minus the option for a Limited Edition), fans quickly noticed one glaring difference: the original Mandarin audio was not included.
>Crunchyroll licensed season one of Heaven Official’s Blessing directly through the original license holder and production company, Bilibili. Bilibili was in turn credited on the season one boxset with a logo on both the spine and back cover. However, season two saw Crunchyroll sublicense the series through their Japanese business partner, Aniplex, as credited on the season two boxset. Via whatever agreement was in place between the three companies, Aniplex was only able to provide Crunchyroll with their Japanese audio for the Bluray release, and not further extend any necessary rights to include the original Mandarin.

I think another factor that people forget is that back then the attitudes towards homosexuality were so much more conservative compared to today and that BL was in itself considered pretty weird and shocking, even if you weren't anti-gay yourself. I remember looking through volumes of Loveless in bookstores with friends and we were all like 'OMG a yaoi', the detail that it was between a kid and an adult didn't really register.

Two of my friends, who don't know each other, keeps forgetting this exists. So once every year I get a message from either one of them sending me a picture of the cover together with some joke or asking me if it's real.
And every year I get the joy of telling them about it's dumb story, and how the main character would cut out holes for each of his butt cheeks in his pants when he went to study on the mainland and everyone in his college just had to accept that it's part of his culture.

The MC starts off with a lot of self-loathing for how his own actions contributed to his brother's death, as well as the innocent lives he ruined in general from being a debt collector, but as he begins to form connections in his new life, he gradually learns to make peace with himself and renew his will to live.

Ennead is so fucking slow right now. It's been slow for half a year and it seemed like finally things were moving but every chapter now is Seth chatting in some cave, then there's a lame cliffhanger and the next chapter you find out it's yet another uninteresting issue that slows down the story. I'm so tired of seeing Seth, Horus, the bearded ugly fuck and the ugly slave (the author should have made him a cute human instead, ugh) in the same situation making the same jokes.

I think it's because it's so beautiful. It's easy to get pulled in by the art alone, and the stories nice as well.

I think it would be controversial today, but because it's old now it'd like if you moralfagged about classic literature, you'd sound kinda ridiculous, and also there aren't any illustrations from it you can pull that feel shocking or overly revealing of it's contents so you actually have to have read it, which most won't because it's old, to find a reason to bitch.

>>461731
I think the hate for Loveless is also caused by it feeling "sleezy" just because it's from the 2000s in a contemporary setting rather than a fancy historical one.

I think also because the child/adult relationship is plaster in all it's illustrations.

Also I think people find it less believable that people can get off in anyway to older art like Kaze.

No. 462959

>Sister openly hates women
Huh? She's a hardcore brocon who also hates all other men because she believes that they'll all hit on her and nothing else. She basically hates everyone who isn't her brother and she ships him with another guy because she's a fujo.
However, the author's sexist because he dumbs her down a lot to be the fujo brocon shipper. And being the only reoccurring girl while being like THAT isn't really the best representation of women. It's not specifically sexist because the sister hates women.

>Mary sue. Every male character wants him.

Almost everything goes wrong for him and he's constantly physically and sexually harassed for it. Only two guys seriously consider dating him. Everyone else just acts abhorrent to the MC because they think less of him and thus humiliate him wherever they can. At best, MC's feminine appearance is a sexual stimulant for them, but they explicitly state actually liking him is gay and too much.
In fact, it's actually kind of frustrating how often it goes back to the status quo of him being at the bottom of the social ladder and trying new cringy schemes to help him climb, all just for him to be kicked down again.

Is Tadaima, Okaeri worth checking out? Saw an edit of a scene that seemed cute, but i brushed it off when it was coming out because of the mpreg or something? Is anyone watching it, is it bearable? Is the child part cringe? I saw the picture of the baby once and it was enough to discard it completely, but I'm curious as to what you think
Also, anyone else watching picrel? Really enjoying the comedy in this one, I think it got judged too harshly because of the whole pedo vampire thing, though I doubt we'll get any actual BL with how the plot's progressing. Still pretty funny, and the teacher's adorable

Personally I really liked Tadaima Okaeri but I enjoy childcare anime in the first place, and the children are a pretty substantial part of the show
I didn't find the kids cringy or annoying, but they definitely act like kids (there's a decent amount of crying) which I could see being grating for some
It also doesn't lean too heavily into the omegaverse concept; mpreg, heat, pheromones, etc don't get fleshed out much so if you look past that you have a pretty standard "wholesome" family anime with some light drama and angst sprinkled in
Also I'm watching Babanbabanban too, it's hilarious enough that I'm okay with the BL being limited to bait and gags

When I first discovered BL, I had 0 standards and would literally read any and everything. Then I went 180 and became way too picky and moralfaggy but that made it impossible to find BL I enjoy. Eventually I landed a middle ground.
>loves
Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, toxic dynamics with so much tension, one sided love that eventually gets requited after so much teasing, idk if this is a trope or something that specifically appeals to me but one of them fucks up big time and begs mercy and forgiveness of the other by being willing to get humiliated and the one who is doing the humiliation is grossed out at first but it grows on him eventually and he ends up enjoying it and it becomes their usual dynamic until they grow out of it and he forgives him and they start having a healthy loving relationship at last, and the one who was humiliated doesn't hold a grudge or anything because he believes he deserved it. Something about this is so hot to me. I love size differences because I'm retarded. Older bottom younger top but like 2 years age gap at most. Asian guy x white guy, bonus points if the Asian tops and the white one bottoms, opposite aesthetics and fashion sense or even personalities but still have some things in common.

Pretty much what you mentioned. I don't always mind BDSM stuff but there are times where it's done wrong or too much it gets boring. I don't mind rape either but I prefer when it starts as rape and the raped ends up enjoying it and becomes addicted to it. I don't like when he never likes it and they still go at it every once in a while unless it's some psychological horror story or something.

Hate this kind of authors, they're such cowards. They want the popularity and promo fujos can get them but then switch to be palatable to god knows who (moids? They're not reading this shit anyway) or because they don't want to be seen as a "cheap" BL artist. This author in particular also made fully BL one shots before iirc and she's throwing it away for nothing. Reminds me of Koogi who would swear up and down that her work wasn't BL when it wouldn't have been half as popular without that aspect that she chose to include to get fujos interested (again, for the insane free promo fujos do).

>>474506
To me it was obvious that it was BL from the first chapters and then the tone changed suddenly. Yoshiki is pretty openly attracted to Hikaru, and Hikaru in the flashbacks seemed to be toying with his feelings a bit, but the monster Hikaru literally makes Yoshiki fist his insides and acts like he's getting sexual pleasure for it, not to mention his talks about wanting to "take in" Yoshiki and that his soul attracts him. Like yeah, technically the monster is not a human, but it's in the body of a male and does homoerotic shit all the time. You could argue about that but it's very very clear that initially this was made to appeal to fujos and had very strong BL undertones, like >>474443 cmon of course this shit is gay.

The troll route takes place 12 years after the 1923 earthquake. If we consider that the Hashihime book he wrote before that point is some sort of retelling of his fantasies, it all falls apart, since WWII is mentioned in previous routes and serves as the basis of Shopkeeper's time travel.
It's more likely that the final story is an example of Tamamori's shitty writing (no wonder Kawase tore his drivel to pieces more often than not) - perhaps his attempt at pivoting into the eroguro genre (basement-dwelling retard-fucking brings to mind stuff like Ranpo's The Caterpillar).

There’s even some evidence that the manga was originally listed as a BL even after the pilot. This makes this situation even worse because she advertised it as a BL AND added fujobait, and insists the fans are in the wrong for seeing it. This whole situation is so funny to me, why is it that authors such as this one and Harusono Shou want fujo money but don’t want to be labeled as BL.

I think it's the same reason some authors are embarrassed about the sci-fi/fantasy label and jump through hoops to not label it as such ("it's not fantasy, it's magical realism!) due to them finding thinking that the public find spec fiction "uncultured" or whatever.

I don't know how BL is viewed by the Japanese public, but here it's seen in the same realm as fanfictions by thirteen-year-old girls. Perhaps she wants her manga to be seen as more "respectable" or even "literary" and not the "cringy teenage girl" genre.

That makes sense, everyone’s too irony poisoned to be sincere about writing tropey stuff. It really does suck that these authors are especially influenced by the worst parts of the west. If it’s BL then it’s the “wrong” type of gay media, it has to be “queer”, or at least not advertise itself as being just gay (see: Harusono Shou). These authors mainly end up using typical BL tropes anyway, so their fans will still interact with it like it’s one. It’s only stories that have being gay as a twist like Blue Flag that end up being gay but don’t feel like BL. Most people will watch HGSN because it’s an anime of the season, but the long term fans are still going to be fujos… So it’s pointless lol.

This is exactly the kind of thing that starts huge arguments on twitter/2ch that end with harassment and death threats towards the author/studio.

>Nonas in this thread demonstrate being perfectly earnest and funny and smart and based about BL discussion, so why is it still treated the way it is?
because it's a female targeted media that not always but in large part involves very explicit sex scenes and this always makes a lot of people uncomfortable because of societal norms. Just look at what's happening with love and deepspace or those raunchy books targeted at women and how men react to that being popular, despite the fact that much more disgusting and explicit sexual media targeted at men has existed since the beginning of time and no one ever bats an eye and it's considered completely normal because "men have to blow off steam" and all these bad women don't put out and make them into incels. It's always something to point at and laugh for a large group of people since women are not supposed to be interested in such topics and it's shameful. It's the same with men wanting women to be virgins and whores at the same time. Women getting sexual satisfaction outside of having intercourse with real men will always be discouraged in society because it decreases their availability to men.

Ntayrt, but I have a pic by the author that complains in general about the BL tags being added in by translators. Weirdly enough, I only saw screenshots of her complaining about overseas fans labeling it as BL, but not Japanese fans (though that could be simply due to lack of archives rather than absence of complaints).

But yeah, pop the image into an image translator to see what she's talking about.

Would've been a lot easier for everyone if she had just announced that it was officially no longer bl. Even if you disregard the tag thing, surely she can see why people would get confused.

I love him nonny
So I read the novel and it gets SO BAD FOR HIM HAHAHA idk if they'll pull these on the webtoon though. But semes anger make sense.
Seme and uke were childhood friends. Seme confesses his love to him and uke goes to a "im not a faggot denial". So he and his friends rape uke and record everything. Then they send this to his mom and she goes to the hospital and dies smth I forgot. After that seme vows to make him suffer and plots his revenge. He joins the yakuza or smth sketchy. But idiot uke gets in a fight or smth and he gets fucks his head really hard and gets brain damage/amnesia so he can't remember seme or what he did to him. Also some say that uke was raping women, but that's not true he was just fucking around.

>lets rape him
you know what this is one of my favorite tropes that make no sense and we should see more of it.
where did you read the novel? im at that stage, i will circumvent the manwah to get my fix. even if the art style contributes so heavily to my enjoyment, i just need to see even worse shit happen to this guy. im kind of lukewarm on the seme but I have a feeling that will change when we actually get to his backstory

Any nonnies here that like Songhyel? I think she's my favorite korean webtoon writer.
I loved both ouroboros and lovesickdog.
Really like how she writes her characters, flawed and fighting their own demons. Her writing style is so unique and i absolutely love her art too.
Idk if she finished lovesick dog or if she'll write another side story. I hope she does write ome and to be about Jooyung, i really liked him and his new perverted bf. Loved how disgusting and unhinged both were. And yet can't hate Jooyung even after everything he did to Yegyum. Her writing is just so good.

i know it is extraordinarily common in bl manhwa but my god do i genuinely hate the small bobble heads paired with the huge semirealistic shaded necks. every time i read yaoi like this i can never fully enjoy it because i keep zooming in on how the upper half looks, especially if a character has those mile long shoulders it skeeves me out real bad

Kek thank you for bringing up the dicks because my god, it's so overdone and comical at this point. It takes me out of it every time. You may even have kind of normal body proportions and then the sex scene comes on and bam, comically huge cock shaped like a sausage.

I finished Riou's and Koichi's routes from Haiiro no Arcadia. Koichi had better writing but they hid his six pack even during the sex scenes even tho the text itself acknowledged that dude's ripped lol, I feel cockblocked. At least they showed the Yandere guy's abs.
