Dragon Quest Builders 2 is so much fun! I love Malroth. He's very funny, and I think I remember him from previous games. Or rather, I remember the monster version. Did anyone else kind of dislike the second island, though? I got very annoyed with the NPCs and the overall plot there. I can't wait to have everything unlocked so I can really work on building the Island of Awakening.

>>493891Oh just wait, nonna! This game is surprisingly deep and very addictive! The story is quite long but I think the payoff is worth it.

AYRT to both of you.
>>494421I'm excited to see what else happens in the story! I like seeing the new islands. I was excited for the desert one because initially, I thought it was going to be Wild West-themed or something despite it being a Japanese game kek. I think I let my expectations become too high. I'm glad the story is long because it gives me a lot to do, but it feels like I shouldn't mess with the Island of Awakening because there might be better building materials later down the line.
>>494495I actually enjoy the main series, and I only started Builders at the suggestion of nonas on here, so I can't speak for the people who are unfamiliar with the main series. I also haven't played the first Builders game, so I can't say how it's different from the second. I guess for me, it's because the game has a similar tone to the main series and a JRPG feeling, while also incorporating building and cooking elements? It's a similar appeal as games like Rune Factory, where you still get to explore, adventure, and fight, but you also have a more relaxing experience trying to make things pretty and building up a town. I find games where I'm expanding and progressing to be relaxing, and it makes me happy to leave out food for villagers to eat or seeing them interact with the facilities I built. In the main games, I'm usually excited to visit new towns because of how unique they are, and Builders is no different. However, on top of that, I also get to be an active participant in shaping how the town looks and what the residents can do there! I hope this makes sense, but I think you'd enjoy it because it feels like a Dragon Quest game, even if the mechanics are a little different. I feel bad for avoiding it for so long!

>>494495>a lot of people tell me they're only familiar with it through BuildersNTA but really? Builders is great and I can imagine it reeling in newcomers, but I would've assumed 8 and 11 would still be what introduces people into DQ by far, or at least Hero in Smash Bros or whatever
But if there's two things everyone loves, it's building/crafting games, and simple JRPG mechanics
It does both of those very well, and the writing is super fun on top of it (even though the story drags quite a bit) so it makes sense how it'd catch the eye of people that aren't familiar with the main series
The part in the story where
Malroth breaks up with you as his inner monster starts coming out and your character model begins frowning broke my heart much more than I would've imagined lol, I didn't think a Minecraft-esque spinoff would've generated such prime husbando material but no complaints here

So I just finished FFXIII-2 last night and I gotta ask wtf was that ending? I was getting sad until the game pulled out a cliffhanger on me and now I'm sorta confused. As weird as the story was at times I did enjoy everything else about the game, the random encounter system can go fuck itself though
also Serah should've dumped snow for Noel

>>494507>NTA but really?Yes, really! I wouldn't assert it to be representative of the Western gaming audience's experiences as a whole but I only talk to women about games most of the time and Builders seems by far more popular among women.
>>494504I'll keep in my back pocket for a time when I need a cozy game, in that case (not that the mainline series games aren't already pretty cozy lol). Enjoying the atmosphere of the different locations is a big draw of DQ for me as well so from your description I could definitely see myself enjoying Builders.

I swear even the writers forgot about him during 2's ending or something, Noel hugging Serah felt way more emotional than anything Snow did in the first game. Sure, there was less overall screentime with her and Snow together but it still felt like he was her uncle or something whenever he appeared in 2

>>494565Personally Okami is too relaxing and cozy for what you're saying. It's not that fast paced so I'd imagine there's a lot of down time for thinking in there if you're trying to avoid certain thoughts.

I decided to play "Mouthwashing" completely blind and it was pretty good. I'm glad I didn't look anything up about it, because I. would've been spoiled to hell and back. It wasn't scary and I think they were trying a bit too hard with some of the hallucinations, but it was still enjoyable and the message behind the game that I inferred made it worth it, and added another element of griminess that was present throughout the game. I liked the non-linear timeline, too, as well as the graphics.
The only thing that I wish I knew before playing was Anya's rape, which was hard to get through when something happened to me recently. I immediately expected something was up between Anya and Jimmy because of how nervous she was around him, but I assumed it was because she intuitively knew he was going to go bonkers and turn everything into a bloodbath. While it would've spoiled a pivotal part of the story and arguably what made the game what it was–tragedy that comes from when men don't hold each other accountable–I would've saved it for later.

>>495104this game is great, only criticism is that they should have cut out the random "gamey" parts that detract from the story. the red light green light area was dumb, so was the centipede thing. i liked
rearranging curly's organs and fighting swansea in the graveyard as those had metaphorical story elements. i think it's a very good depiction of how men can be evil and how other men can be "nice" but still make excuses for other men's evil. personally, i think the anons here who hate it were annoyed by the gross fandom and also it being completely overhyped. the studio who made this game also made a mostly forgotten game called "how fish is made". i remember joining the wrong organ discord for mouthwashing and it was completely dead for months. once the game came out and people saw two white guys to make kiss each other it was all over. what a fucking waste.

Do any nonnies have video game suggestions for Macbook users? I'm a poorfag and can't afford a gaming computer – and, even if I could, would use my money elsewhere – and it's hard finding video games that won't absolutely kill my computer. Besides Minecraft, I pretty much exclusively play/watch lets-plays of horror games like the Outlast series, Amnesia, and Puppet Combo games (corny, but super fun).

There are guides online for how to run them on Mac, and it shouldn't be prohibitively expensive. Games like Ib, Yume Nikki, and Off are interesting and can run on anything. >>497424no, it hasn’t been announced yet, but we know there will be one. as for xenogears, i finished it last year, and i loved it. it definitely has some 90s jrpg misogyny going on, but i didn’t really expect much feminism from that game that focuses so heavily on freudian psychoanalysis and abrahamic religion. it is definitely a product of its time, but i really loved it. it makes me sad that they were never able finish the stories set in that universe (there were supposed to be 6 in total) bc square decided to focus on final fantasy.
i haven’t finished the xenosaga trilogy yet, but i have been enjoying it so far (almost done with ep i). i really like shion.
as for xenoblade 3, i enjoyed it thoroughly, though i felt there were some narrative weaknesses and that they failed to develop some of the characters as there were just too many of them. that being said, i was wholly invested in the game and it made me cry several times. future redeemed was good too. i’m a little bit of a shipper and was so excited to see shulk and fiora’s son. i definitely recommend watching a playthrough if you can’t play it. you’ll see some references to xenogears
No. 497994
>>497313AYRT, sorry for such a late reply. I think if you liked the original then you'll definitely enjoy this one as it keeps all of the core features but has improved on them drastically. You've probably already seen some info on it but you can now switch between lives freely, and interacting with a gathering material will automatically switch to the appropriate life. You can also use any workbench for any of the crafting lives (not sure if that was in the original or not, it's been a long time). There's a lot of returning characters too from both the 3DS game and mobile game.
I can't speak on the storyline yet as I'm not very far into that, I'm just about to unlock the painter life I think? But so far it's as charming as you can expect from a Level 5 game. There's a load of extra things to do too like having an Animal Crossing-like island to decorate and fill with the characters who can become party members. There's also a whole extra map full of monsters and crafting materials to explore.
My only gripe so far is I don't find the tropical island setting as comfy as Castele, but it's not something that's ruining my enjoyment of the game

>mordecai is a bitter loner who only wants more guns>roland is a former member of a dictatorial army and only ran away to avoid getting killed after being discharged>lilith just does whatever she wants and is egotistical about her powers and looks>brick is just some dumb meathead borderlands 2 was pretty fun with developing them and making them a little less assholish, but then we have fucking lilith sacrificing herself and then alicia keys playing after it. so cringe. the BL2 vault hunters are very fun, not quite total selfish dicks but they don't feel watered down like a lot of the new vault hunters are. you can definitely feel the obnoxious attempt at "safe" inclusivity and refusing to give characters actual bad attributes and flaws… which shouldn't even be a thing because in borderlands 1 you could be a white lady, a black guy, a hispanic guy, or a racially ambiguous guy who is voiced by a black dude. it's okay to make a non-white character be a piece of shit while also being pretty cool. it makes them more likeable and human. all these vault hunters past 2 have something about liking teamwork or being peaceful or saving others or whatever. snooze.
now i'm thinking about lucio in overwatch and his entire backstory was "he's a nice guy who believes in freedom for all". so fucking boring! i have really strong feelings about borderlands, because i played 1&2 all the way through with my best friend multiple times. it was so so fun. it's hard not to be jaded about what the series has become.

>>498453I totally agree with you, we used to play some badass characters that are morally "gray". Borderlands is a frachise with inclusive characters since the beginning as you said and that's fine, but now I think they lost this core-value for a disney-like inclusive cast with everyone represented. Borderlands 3 has a good cast but you can clearly see that the vision has changed sadly.
It's annonying me a lot because I love playing those games and The Pre-Sequel (even with the numerous flaws) has decent characters who are pieces of shit (Nisha & Wilhelm). It was so fun (one of my favorite quote is from Nisha : "I haven't felt this good since Mom died."), but now they are afraid to take risks.
Your example wih Lucio reminds me of Wyll in Baldur's Gate 3. I didn't play this game but saw a lot of comments online arguing that his story was so boring because his only goal is to "save everyone"…

Handsome Jack (and his backstory in TPS) is one the best characters of all time (and his va is so good). It reminds me of Vaas in Far Cry 3, because the next games are trying to emulate him but it is not working at all.
For now, I am not the sure the Time Keeper will be able to achieve a fraction of what Handsome Jack has done.

>>498469i'm afraid the timekeeper is going to be like a marvel villain. handsome jack really, really fit into the borderlands universe. not just because he was a regular old guy with no superpowers, but because he threatened to destroy the charm of the wasteland with his corporate bullshit, which appeals as a reason to hate him for most people, who at this point love pandora's lawlessness. i'm not sure what the timekeeper could do to be as interesting as that. also, jack got to kill off some beloved characters but in a way that made sense and had actual impact unlike the complete cringe bullshit of bl3.
since you're also a far cry enjoyer holy SHIT i hate 4, 5 and 6. far cry 2 was annoying but the jackal had some potential, far cry 3 is by far the best game in the series not only because of the setting and characters but especially vaas, he carries the first half of the game. one thing about vaas' voice acting was that michael mando was going through a breakup at the time and it made his performance feel that much more emotional and unstable. buck is great too, he's so fucking disgusting
and they were based for having him rape one of the moid characters. the second half isn't quite as good but hoyt is also an amazing villain who's horrible and reprehensible and realistic. pagan min is probably the biggest atrocity of a villain ever created imo. at least the ugly duck dynasty brothers of 5 had some effort put into them, pagan is some faggot who acts like a tourist and is voiced by troy baker.

In the end, Jack was destroyed by himself, because he wanted so much power that he became insane and it makes a great contrast when you meet him at the begging of the TPS ("nerdy office man" who doesn't know how to shoot a gun).
You have great taste indeed. My last Far Cry game was the 4 (and I replayed the remastered version of Far Cry 3), but I remember clearly that it was a fucking joke. Picrel but there is no way someone finds him attractive (his outfit is hideous) and the fact that you could finish the game by staying seated for 15 minutes made me laugh so hard because it makes no sense at all.
Michael Mando played Vaas perfectly and I love him so much. He also made the french version, and both versions are masterpiece. All the commercials about Far Cry 3 was perfect (Vaas being held in a psychiatric yard). For Buck, I will juste leave this quote because it speaks for itself :
"I'll take you bloody, if you like. I like my meat rare."

>>499074nta I think there's a fantranslation for the 3rd entry, which contains a peculiar scene. I personally found it funny. Twin Age is in English but that game feel more kid-targetted, but it's very sweet and happy. Sunaho Tobe, iirc, is a female artist and had drawn for this game. (she also drew for Riviera: The Promised Land, but I think she didn't like that particular job since it was so coomery. additionally, the two female artists - Sunaho Tobe and one other - worked on Knights in the Nightmare, which is hard as hell but very good, and mentioned complaining that one of the team members was
making the boob sizes bigger on their art throughout the game's development)
Anyways. Summon Night X: Tears Crown, is a more traditional turn-based RPG that is on the DS and it's nice. Pretty long; I haven't finished it yet, but there's an english patch for it too.

Semi Spoiler?
It's this valkrie as far as I can tell. She is a being of a different status that manifests in a certain way in this game due to reasons. If you beat the game, there is a second story that shifts the perspective ever so slightly. Every unit has a backstory and if you can stomach bullet-hell card-based turn-based real-time strategy games, it becomes a sort of goal to figure out everyone's lives and how they interact. I want to shill the fuck out of this game and highly recommend getting the physical
DS copy, as playing it on emulator is a bit harsh due to the nature of the control scheme, and the PSP version I hear is a flop.
Other entries are things like Riviera: The Promised Land and Yggdra Union, which plays like Fire Emblem.

Also an old Summon Night fan, I'm looking to play the games in Japanese soon, I've been learning partially just for that. Heard the language isn't too complicated. Had no idea about the relationship to Department Heaven games, so that's super neat.
Also I always feel like I'm the only person who liked 5 lol. A lot of it was stereotypical fluff, but it was the first Summon Night game I played and I was captivated by the way it hints at this vast world built up by previous installments. There kinda is a 'platonic route' for everyone, but it does seem some characters in particular need you to shut them down first kek, and yeah that party sequence is particularly bad about it. It's a bit unfortunate because bg3 does have some fun and well-fleshed-out characters that are interesting outside of a romantic/sexual context (I had a great time on my first playthrough without engaging with any of it, the party characters do eventually shut up about it as well), but imo romances in rpgs are always pretty shit and overly insistent that positive interaction = let's bang/fall in love.

The sequel seems much more like it looked clinically at the gameplay loop of the original and aimed to ramp it up to its most addictive degree. It's a very different experience IMO.
If the gameplay is the main thing you like about FLi, I don't think you'll enjoy the first one as much. But if you like a cozy RPG in an immersive world, the first is superior.

>>501478Glad to hear that there's room for platonic character development. I don't have a problem with romance in rpgs but it's weird how forward all the characters in BG3 are. I accidentally stumbled into accepting Gale's come on. He wanted to show me something 'magical', and I was like 'Cool! I bet it's related to his backstory' and then Lae'Zael called me a slut and tried to hit on Wyll to make me jealous or something which is how I figured out that Gale was trying to bang my PC kek.
Other than that, I'm really enjoying my first playthrough! There's so much interactivity in the world, a lot of care and effort put into little details, full voice acting for every minor character, it's crazy! The combat is fun too because there's a lot of stupid shit you can get up to. The first time a goblin tackled Shadowheart into a pit and killed her, I gasped. It's fun to try and take advantage of the terrain or layout to get cheap shots in on non-hostiles, which is something I haven't seen much of in an rpg like this before, and I find myself trying to explore areas before talking to anyone just in case I have to fight them later.
Story-wise, it seems fine to good. Everything is very well communicated as to why any PC would want to follow the main plot, and there's a lot of little things to do. Everything feels very focused, and I like how much of it is optional (or at least feels that way). I'm actively pushing back against using any mindflayer/tadpole powers, and it's cool that the game lets me do that.
I made the dream guardian my PC's mom. Hope that doesn't get awkward!I always play a charismatic talky character in rpgs so I picked a Bard! I'm only level 4 right now but there's a decent variety of stuff you can do with just Level 1 and 2 spells plus cantrips and bardic inspiration. I've played a lot of 5e in the past and ran a few campaigns so I have a pretty good grasp on the system. It feels a lot better than something like Pathfinder Kingmaker, which I bounced off hard even though I prefer it in tabletop. Everything is very well explained too, mechanically, though I was a retard and kept applying Wyll's hex to himself instead of enemies for some reason. (I thought that it was a buff that then applied the hex to whichever enemy he hit next?) I'm running with a really caster heavy party right now, which is novel for me because I usually hate spellcasters in both tabletop and computer rugs but BG3 makes it really easy to see what spells do, the area of effect, and which enemies have bonuses against them so it's quite different than I'm used to. (I played a lot of BG1/BG2, which used 2e rules and are frustratingly opaque in comparison.)
Overall, the whole game feels very polished, which makes sense because it spent years in early access and then I picked it up a few years after full launch. It looks pretty good too even on my older computer, and I've only had one crash which is considerably better than most games of this complexity and size.

>>501554I don't have a problem with the concept of romance in rpgs, I just find the execution to usually be very cringe or meh kek. The BG3 characters can come on very strong, yeah, and imo it's a bit of a shame that so much of the online buzz (ime) around the game focused on the romance/horniness– tbh, until I watched a streamer play BG3 (who also motivated me to play Divinity Original Sin 2 back in the day), all I knew about the game was that there were sex scenes and that people were romancing x character, I had no idea what the actual story hook even was kek. The weird spats that can happen between characters who think you're romancing them can be pretty funny, if a bit bizarre.
Glad you're enjoying it anon! The world is so good and fun to explore, and I love how the combat works too! I like that you can do a lot of goofy shit but also that you can be as tactical or go in as guns blazing as you want once you get a hang on everyone's abilities and movement.
I liked the story too, I particularly enjoyed it for getting me to care about some dnd lore/worldbuilding that playing the ttrpg never quite managed to kek, imo it's a really nice adaptation of the setting. Also pushed back on the tadpoles during my playthrough, but mostly because I didn't want more abilities to manage while playing outside of my comfort zone as a caster kek. All I'll say about the dream guardian is that I really enjoyed that element of the plot.
Oh nice, bards are great! I play a lot of 5e too, and I am a melee purist in that so went for warlock in BG3 to try something different kek. Aww poor Wyll, but oh well you figured out how it worked in the end and that's all that matters. Yeah, the clarity of how your spells will actually effect the field/enemies and what those enemies are also doing makes it all so easy to pick up (I know it differs from actual 5e, but it did motivate me to roll a caster for the next campaign I'll be playing). Tried playing 2e once and it was such a slog for the group to adapt to kek, even for those of us who'd played BG1/BG2 in the past.
Hope it keeps running smoothly for you anon!

What's little of value in that DLC masquerading as a standalone game is heavily overshadowed by the plethora of lazily half baked elements. If someone enjoys playing this kusoge that means they're the cattle of the highest order, the lowest common denominator. Can't believe people have such non existent standards and are willing to defend it. Useful idiots. One thing is for sure, From Shitware is dead to me and so is any subhuman who claims to be their fan.

Seeing so many people bootlick Hunter Schafer for wanting to play Zelda in the upcoming LoZ movie made me realize something: most "fans" don't understand the games for shit. It shows with how they defend their fancast choice.
>Zelda was always a progressive franchise!
Yeah right, full of gay caricatures, crossdressing played as a joke, a hon troon in botw, the gerudos being orientalist af and Zelda being a damsel in distress at times.
>Zelda is a crossdresser tho
Her Sheik form was a desperate measure she had to take in order to hide from Ganondorf in a time of extreme crisis.
>lol how do you know Zelda is cis?
Because the royal family is a genocidal dynasty that tortured a race until near-extinction. Not clutching pearls abt it btw, just saying.
If they can't even grasp this basic shit, what's it gonna be when it comes to the more complex games? Did any of them even understand the psychological themes in Majora's Mask for example? It's not even that deep but these people would make Mario lore look like rocket science… I hate to imagine that games I love flew over most fans' heads.
Pic unrelated, it's a tweet from around when Majora's Mask 3D came out and it's supposed to be a message from the Happy Mask Salesman himself. There's several but I find this one funny.

Switch 2 is jumping onto the "style" trend. Honestly I have no idea why they do this when in the screenshot itself they mention the "style" choice will reflect as gender in some games.

What you mention is pretty much how it worked in the 3DS Aninal Crossing (you pick a gender, can wear any clothes and have any hairstyle) and they reckoned it for the Switch release (works exactly the same except they say style rather than gender)

Since Tetris has been proven to help people with PTSD, we know video games can help with mental illness, but only some of them. I wonder if Cuphead can. I have some diagnoses of my own and I find that playing Cuphead really helps me cope well, better than the mechanisms and mind-exercises my therapists suggest anyway, but I don't know if there's some science behind that or if I'm just imagining things.
For example, since I feel nothing and like I'm empty/on autopilot 90% of the time, I don't get mad easily and the difficulty helps me regulate my emotions by drawing them out a little. I'm anxious and hypervigilant too so the constant in-game stress and action work better than any other distraction. This is gonna sound retarded but one of the bossfights has a crazy amount of things that remind me of someone who abused me, so beating it makes me feel like I'm beating flashbacks of that person. There's so much about this silly game that appeals to me, even the style since I grew up with Silly Symphonies (I'm a zoomer but I was raised by people with taste). Other games can't seem to do that for me. Again, it might just be some autistic speculation, but maybe there really is something therapeutic about it.
Do any nonnas have a similar thing with a video game?

Allegedly, they're developed by a woman, but I haven't looked into it too deeply to know if that's true. I also haven't gotten very far into the game, but I know they're supposed to get a lot more interesting later into the series. Has anyone played these games? What did you think of them? Also, would anyone be interested in an RPG Maker General thread? Not exactly mental illness, but the first time I played Yakuza 0 I was dealing with my old cat's death (as well as her last days), my other cat going missing, and all the chaos of the pandemic. I actually got PTSD from that, and it lasted for a couple years. I became a recluse and playing Y0 all day long for weeks really helped distract myself from, and cope with, what was happening around me, and without it I would've gone insane. I was so engrossed by it that playing it was all I did besides sleeping and eating. It also became one of my favorite games of all time. Besides wanting to forget about those things, the story was so engaging that it made me want to keep going to find out what happened next, so I often stayed up all night playing. I suppose crying so much over the plot also helped me feel better physically and mentally. Other things I liked about it were the husbando aspect of it (try being straight and playing Y0 without falling for Majima, I swear to god), the humor and dialogue, the countless side activities, and the fact that it acted as a power fantasy for me since it feels good to play as a stylish, badass delinquent while beating up random moids on the street, the combat is very satisfying and fun which makes you forget all your worries. The only thing I don't like is the porn shit (obviously) but thankfully there's so much stuff to do in this game that it's easy to ignore.

I'm so mad about the casual games industry.
Big fish games had to piss away anything they were able to earn multiple times so now there aren't any small devs making weird experimental games like arcade shooters, sim/rpg games or match threes despite them being easy to make.
Hidden object adventure games? infested with AI slop and the majority of developers have closed, restructured or just vanished with no new developers to replace them.
Time management games? wiped out by covid with only with only a few titles remaining, even Delicious Emily isn't the same because the devs that made the original line of games got replaced.
I'm so mad. an entire industry of games just collapsing and no one cares because they're for more casual enjoyment (meaning for women) and are made on a small budget with unknown devs so who gives a shit that an entire playerbase now only has garbage AI HOPA games and solitaire/bejeweled clones. There are genuinely some very interesting casual games that came out during the industry's golden age and it's just not being replicated because of mismanagement.

No. 508931
>>508824>>508927The plot was really just a rack to hang the side quests on for me, much like the previous BG games. All it had to do is give me a reason for this group of retards to work together
under my tyrannical regime, and it did that. Anyone who spergs about the story or character writing is easily impressed because it's very paint by numbers, which is typical for Larian as devs. I liked how I could solve problems through a bunch of different solutions, had the game react to my
stupid choices, and how fun the combat feels (with the qualifier that it's turn based and 5e). My best memory is coming up with elaborate schemes to take down the goblin camp leaders and fucking up because of an environmental detail I forgot about: pits of doom for Shadowheart to get tackled into, the iron staircases above the hobgoblin guy being indestructible and therefore ruining my idea of 'Snipe from the rafters, use feather fall after', underestimating exactly how many fucking goblins would be in the goblin camp). The companions were laughable at times. Shadowheart always looks like she's smelling something bad and has a stupid accent + strange head movements; Lae'zel is a Who faced bitch; Astarion looks like the Grinch and is possibly the faggiest fag to have ever fagged; Wyll is comatose; Gale has a beard; Karlach is boring despite being ripped and constantly on fire…
No. 508985
>>508927Yeah definitely the horniness of the companions is a huge flaw, it really ruined any possibility of seeing them as proper characters for me. Additionally the companion quests are ass and they are repeated among the companions with some variables changed, but essentially they feel like I'm doing the same thing, just beating up different guys to achieve the same goal for most of the companions -
freeing them from some form of slavery. which is also what the main quest is essentially about so like what? Couldn't they think of something else? I feel like Larian writers think that the only way to develop a character is through fucking with you or making you help them free themselves from
some variant of slavery. I suspect the people who sing praise about the game have never read a proper book in their life because, while it's fun being a jackass in baldur's gate 3 and doing some wacky shit all the time, there is no way I could take this writing seriously. Even when I lol about it, I still cringe.

Controller feels so simple and intuitive, especially with exploration and being able to quick-loot an entire area at once. Only thing I dislike is that customizing the combat radials is a pain. Comfortably kicking back in my chair > leaning forward and fucking up my wrists. I use a controller for everything though, including FF14. Comfymaxxed and ergonomipilled.

Been playing Persona 5. Halfway through the Madarame dungeon. It astounds me that they series didn't progress at all in its handling of women between 4 and 5, and the writing has barely improved so far either, although it benefits from the loss of some 2000isms.
The gameplay in this one at least is fun enough to compensate for the more frustrating aspects, though. It's genuinely fun. And Morgana is adorable, hanging out with him around the city and at home is my favorite element so far.
Are the later female characters that join the party treated any better by the writing than Ann? Everything about her is so clumsily handled so far, it makes me genuinely sad.
I was looking forward to Makoto, but now I'm just apprehensive.

>>516659>but didn't have the balls to actually run with it.NTAYR but that's the main issue I have with P5. It wants to be rebellious and actually be critical of shit, but it seems either the higher ups or own writers chickened out to not offend people too much and spend the whole game flip-flopping their morals and they don't treat their characters seriously. It's ok to have jokes even if they're insensitive to the current narration, but when they turn into pretty much the characters end up like after you finish their arc…
I'm still P3 still had some P1-2 roots and had the balls to
forever kill the protagonist to support the message it wanted to tell. I'm sure if it came later and they wrote it the same way as P4-5, the ending (or the answer) would've turned waaay differently.
I'm aware that in FES they added the Chidori revival (deserved to be honest, I hate how they killed her off just to give development to the wrost male character) and Portable lets Shinjiro wake up for a bit for the extra ending, but both of these are optional and you probably won't see them unless you go out their way for it. >>517671What really drove this home for me was how during Kaneshiro's rant about how young women are weak physically, mentally, and socially, there's zero defiance to the concept that they're somehow an inferior version of humanity.
If the game actually committed to even its most surface level themes there would be apt observation that it's society that's to blame for making them small on multiple axes and that they're actually just people like anybody else. But instead the game seems to agree with his observations and only find him at fault for saying the silent part out loud.
Furthermore, the bad end for this route heavily focuses on victimizing Makoto as a young woman and yet the good route doesn't factor her sex into it at all and only reduces it to a juvenile children versus adults narrative. Being female truly only exists as a form of suffering or sexual gratification to the writers of P5, I've seen nothing so far that suggests they see any value in womanhood beyond that.
No. 517758
>>517731Whenever I bring up how shittly P5 treats Ann, moids (and their enablers) think that I wanted the narrative to screech to a halt so she can deliver a speech about girlbossing or feminism and then castrate Kamoshida on screen while the other characters clap.
That last part would be kind of based… That's not what I'm saying at all. The developers are the ones who raised the stakes to 'this high school teacher is sexually abusing a female student and will do so again if not stopped' and then refused to answer that with an actual message other than a lukewarm 'don't rape'. Ann explicitly says that she's uncomfortable with her Phantom Thief outfit, works as a model (which focuses a lot on her outward appearance and appeal to scrotes), but the narrative doesn't really do anything with this other than 'oh, I guess it's empowering to dress sexy (even though I'm canonically 16)'. It's such wasted potential. If they didn't want people to point it out, they shouldn't have included it.
No. 517814
>>517758Yeah, I think that's what makes P5's handling of Ann so exceptionally frustrating. It's not just another case of a teenage girl being shamelessly sexualized in a JRPG, it's a teenage girl being shamelessly sexualized in a JRPG that goes out of its way to try point out how the sexual abuse of teenage girls has been systemically enabled.
I also wasn't a fan of how how the wrote the dialogue around Ann's confrontation with Kamoshida. She outright says that Shiho was an idiot for allowing herself to be abused. Which isn't in itself the issue since I think a teenager in a complex situation choosing to make a stand despite not knowing the "right" way to frame what happened would be interesting. But the writing doesn't lend that kind of nuance to her statement, it comes off more as
victim blaming language the writers actually align with.
In fact, Ann overall in her dialogue following that arc consistently takes on too much of the blame onto herself, and those statements always go unexamined in a critical or interesting way.
No. 517825
>>517758Sorry for more sperging:
>oh, I guess it's empowering to dress sexy I'm not sure it even bothers to justify it like this, from what I've seen so far her Phantom Thief outfit just is what it is.
I cringed so hard when I unlocked her seducer ability where she sexually allures the enemies into not attacking you. It makes zero sense when she's not even written as a character who is acutely aware of or makes intentional use of her appearance.
Her social links make it clear that she models by convenience and doesn't actually put effort into molding her appearance into what it is. When she has to model for Yusuke to get close the party close to him, she has to be talked into it and she does everything she can to make herself unappealing (20 layers of clothing. Every time she's asked to utilize her feminine wiles or whatever she's explicitly bad at it.
So what reason is there for her to be sexily seducing monsters other than the developers wanting it for OOC fanservice?
I hated the way Rise was handled in P4 but even putting aside the whole Kamoshida situation, Ann's sexualization is much harder to sit through because it's sexualization of a character who's actively opposed to it. I feel so bad for her because regardless of her appearance she's just a regular teenage girl who wants to be treated as such (also see: her talking about how Shiho became her best friend because she treated her normally without judging her appearance), but the game treats her the same way her abuser did.

Bo looks a lot like BotW Zelda, love that.

It's like I'm really Super Metroid.
note. I have never played a Metroid game…
Anyway, new Destiny, I've barely started but it's nice so far. New guy is neat, I laughed at some of the dialog. I need to know the context of that nice R&B song on the soundtrack so I'll keep playing.

>>520848how is the game as a new player? and what other DLCs have you played?
i haven't bought this DLC because i'm bitter about the lack of Crow and Glint, but from what i've seen of Orin and Lodi, they aren't so bad as characters
especially compared to tranny dears Nimbus and Micah, they don't have the low effort Cayde vibes that everyone else was infected with for years

>>520858>how is the game as a new player?Wouldn't know, been playing since 2016. I wouldn't recommend to new players unless they're willing to watch a ton of youtube vids and read all the lore books on Ishtar Collective.
Yeah I miss Crow too, he'd probably vibe great with Lodi, but maybe he'll show up later, or in the next story bit. That's just how this game goes. Sometimes your faves are there sometimes they're not. But I also like Drifter and I always have way too much fun imagining my Guardians dialog lines no matter who we 'interact' with.
>>520857I'll get to them eventually, maybe. Don't know why I never got Metroid Prime back on Gamecube. Is Dread on the Switch?

>>520848The new mechanic is pretty cute, all I could think of was Metroid too kek. Glad we've finally upgraded from dunking balls to becoming balls. Haven't got around to actually buying the expansion yet, but the free mission was pretty good (I am also curious about that song) and tbh it's kinda nice to be low Light again.
My only complaint about the new changes is that I don't really like the new 'portal' thing, particularly the UI for it. Also, might've just been the time I was playing it at and people focusing on the new story content, but man did matchmaking through it take a while kek.

>Any seasonal content?I don't watch dev streams or look at reddit to avoid spoilers so not sure. There is a little blurb on the rewards page about Season of Reclamation, but it might just be fluff. We'll see next week I guess.
>>520902>Nice to be low light againexcept now I feel like I have to rehaul my armor, but I like my 90 stat pieces…
The portal is sort of annoying too, and seems like Gambit is useless now, maybe there'll be a story reason for that though.

>>521131Eh, bungie will have to delete my armour off of my character to make me change it kek (plus I prefer the broader spread of stats than the more focused new gear I've been getting, rip though to the mobility stat). I'm too stubborn– for example, I kept using a sunsetted gun from Forsaken until it got un-sunsetted like a year ago lol.
The portal just feels clunky and kinda unnecessary, like I can't see why its reward/bounty system couldn't have just been merged into the existing parts of the game… guess they wanted to get rid of the tower visiting routine for a lot of stuff idk. Sucks to see gambit pushed even further out of view and relevance, what an odd choice.

Even popular children's IPs like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai have had explicitly canonical TiF and theyfab characters within the past five years. I watch normie jdramas too and references to how things are nowadays and what you need to be accepting of are not uncommon.

Oh, but probably don't buy any of the Ryza games, an expanded deluxe edition was recently announced and you'd be better off waiting for that.

Bungie stop making boss fights on floating platforms challenge, at least I only fell off 5 times instead of 14.
Marble Metroid is a much better puzzle boss gimmick then remember the symbols.
A little surprised they're keeping things so open instead of cleaning up loose ends. was not expecting, 'bind the nine to avoid extinction' new big plot point' Wonder if any of this was even thought up back with Jokers Wild.
Apparently the alpha test of Marathon was badly received and they delayed the release date. Wonder if that has anything to do with anything.
Lodi was fun, I like his trope, I really want more lore with him now.
Now I just have to wait till they patch in Ikora's proper voice before I can play through with my other character. Savathun's VA did a good job not being too distracting as a substitute though.

>>522018Yeah Stardew Valley combat is very boring, the caves are repetitive and the weapons are always just swords. Plus the characters are way better in RF4, Stardew Valley's characters are boring and ugly.

>>519330Hi I'm back, had a chance to play through a few of your suggestions!
I'm one of those idiots who hoards cheap games during steam sales and never touches them, so most of these were picked simply because I already own them (oops)
>Rusty Lake gamesI tried to play in order but I did not like Cube Escape. I felt like I had no choice but to brute force everything because the interactions between objects are so absurd and random that I could never genuinely "solve" the next step.
So I skipped to Roots and it was a massive improvement. There's still plenty of surrealism and weirdness to give it a dreamlike quality, but now I can follow the logic of the puzzles and what they want from me. I've finished Roots and I'll probably go through Paradise in the coming weeks.
>HomicipherReally fun and unique idea, and I was shocked how much Mr Gap grew on me! I often find VNs take a long time to really get going but the language decoding mechanism had me engaged immediately, and even during scenes with none of my favourite characters it was a chance to learn some new words so I never got bored and checked out. I completely filled out the scene list and then woke up the next day sad that I had no Homicipher left to play.
>Portal 1 and Portal 2Have I played them multiple times? Of course. Did I take this excuse to play them again? Absolutely.
The Portal games are so damn good. I know I beat Portal as a child, but when I solve those same puzzles all these years later is still manages to feel satisfying and not like I'm playing something made for a child to solve. (Fortunately I can at least say I'm solving the puzzles much faster than I did as a child.)
>JourneyThis game has been on my radar for a long time but I always worried I was too late to the party. Journey lovers talk about the magic of sharing this beautiful experience with a stranger but like, is there really going to be anybody else playing this game so long after release? But then there was! And they were nice and guided me to scarf upgrades and came back for me every time I got lost or stuck! And it was as lovely as everyone says, thank you so much for giving me the push to finally try it
>No one lives under the lighthousePlease tell me I'm not the only one who struggled with the
chase sequences. Every time I was seeing the monster's pov I really struggled to make out what I was looking at, especially which way my guy was facing so I kept accidentally running straight into the monster. Those moments aside I really enjoyed it. A really solid faux-PS1 style that doesn't use that as an excuse to completely phone in the graphics, I had no idea what was going on but the vibes were more than enough to carry the experience.
TLDR: I'm having a great time and I love you all! Definitely going to keep working my way through the rest of the list.

I dont know how to say this without sounding like a shill but whatever. Ive been playing the Animal crossing city folk deluxe mod and its so fun. Especially playing it with my ps4 controller instead of the wiimote (more comfortable imo). The mod fixes sooo many problems that people have always complained about with this game, most notably the fast grass decay that leaves your town looking like a desert when you play everyday. It also adds a lot of small QOL things as well as adding 200+ villagers from previous and newer games. I just like this mod a lot and havent seen anybody here talk about it so.. yeah. I recommend it, very nice, very fun. I think city folk is super underrated and overhated and this mod really polishes it and lets it shine.

I always loved this game, but after playing the talos principle 2 and realizing that the protagonist of the first game is actually a female android made me love the first game even more.
of course the redditards disregard this, because "gender was never mentioned" even though other characters refer to her as "she". Oh, sweet, sweet Copium
Anyways, if you want a good, challenging puzzle game, try the talos principle.

>>521878I don't know how you feel about guides nonna but you may enjoy Meruru (and the other arland games) if you used one. But as another anon suggested, you could try one of the newer titles as well since time limits aren't much of a thing now.
For reference: the dusk trilogy has 2 games with time limits that are pretty lax imo, Ayesha has an overall time limit that you have to finish the main story, afterwards letting you fuck around until the time limit runs out. The second game, Escha and Logy, has deadlines for tasks and so long as you complete the main ones you'll be fine and tbh I preferred this type of time limit. I don't remember if either games have missable character events, but I don't think Ayesha did? Then the 3rd game, Shallie, completely removed the time limit and progression is chapter-based instead. Allowing you to freely do whatever you want until you're ready to move on to the next chapter.
The mysterious trilogy doesn't have time limits either, except for Firis, which has a temporary time limit but once you complete the task for that you're free to do whatever.

The game itself is shit from what I've heard but
>rewrite of the damsel in distress held captive by an animal into a talented girl that makes friends with said animal
>actually looks 13 and isn't sexualized or glamorized (the bar is in hell butkeep in mind it's a japanese game)
>BANGER songs and great voice
>game serves to give her a backstory (finally)
>silly little dance in reference to her first ever sprite's animation
>she's having fun
Good job Nintendus

Are there any games with trading elements that are worth trying out? I like to play stuff with in-game economies and allows you to trade with players and build up worth. I currently play Animal Jam and Everskies for this but I'd really like to move onto other games. The game doesn't have to be solely trading, but if it has a healthy economy that would be nice.

>>525122Because many older Americans are scared of foreign cultures and their creations, and think that they'd be "unappealing" to the core U.S. market. Despite that media itself often being based on content originally American in origin.
This has, of course, changed over time, with Japanese media becoming more prevalent especially in current year. This is especially thanks to American movie studios hiring some of the most incompetent people imaginable, and Western animation being decapitated by the city of Boston.
Though every once and a while you get some senile boomer or some reactionary dumbasses who thinks the year is 2015 still and that anime is just a pedo fad that only neck beards in their mothers basements actually like who then try to "make things more western" despite anime already "winning" the "culture war" (calling it winning like culture is some kind of competition is dumb I know but still).
